| ○ | ○ | Article | Determination of ovalbumin sensing response of protein-imprinted bilayered hydrogel strips via measurement of mechanically driven bending angles based on swelling-induced deformation | Novel detection method has been developed to explore changes in mechanical bending angles on a bilayer of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). For an ovalbumin (OVA)-imprinted hydrogel layer, functional monomers were employed to achieve sufficient binding effect in the polymer matrix. The OVA amount added in the MIP precursor solution and the dimensions of OVA-imprinted hydrogel (MIH) strips were controlled to maximize the change in bending angles as an OVA sensing response within a valid detection range. The sensing behaviors were determined by monitoring the difference in the bending angles via protein adsorption based on the swelling-induced deformation of the OVA-extracted hydrogel (E-MIH) strip. The equilibrium adsorption capacity of the E-MIH strip was calculated via the Bradford protein assay. The detection limit, quantification limit, and imprinting factor were calculated. To compare the selectivity coefficients, the adsorption behaviors of three proteins were investigated. Finally, the reusability of the E-MIH strip was explored via repeated adsorption and extraction. Based on the results, the E-MIH strips demonstrated a promising protein sensing platform monitoring mechanical bending angles affected by swelling deformation. | Hazarika, Deepshikha; Yang, Jin Chul; Lim, Seok Jin; Park, Soo-Young; Park, Jinyoung | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Polymer Sci & Engn, 80 Daehak Ro, Daegu 41566, South Korea | ; park, soo-young/N-3170-2017; PARK, JUN-YOUNG/P-5981-2015 | 57739151500; 56381794400; 58163180700; 57194041850; 57286293400 | psy@knu.ac.kr;jinpark@knu.ac.kr; | MICROCHIMICA ACTA | MICROCHIM ACTA | 0026-3672 | 1436-5073 | 190 | 7 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL | 2023 | 5.4 | 13.7 | 0.82 | 2025-06-25 | 9 | 9 | Ovalbumin; Molecular imprinting; Hydrogel actuator; Bending angle; Imprinting factor; Swelling deformation | BORONATE-AFFINITY; SELECTIVE RECOGNITION; MOLECULAR RECOGNITION; GLYCOPROTEIN; NANOPARTICLES; SEPARATION; ENRICHMENT; CAPTURE; SITES; PH | Bending angle; Hydrogel actuator; Imprinting factor; Molecular imprinting; Ovalbumin; Swelling deformation | Hydrogels; Molecularly Imprinted Polymers; Ovalbumin; Polymers; Proteins; hydrogel; molecularly imprinted polymer; ovalbumin; polymer; protein | English | 2023 | 2023-07 | 10.1007/s00604-023-05845-5 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Effective and selective removal of carbazole from model bitumen-derived fuel via adsorption using amine-grafted metal-organic frameworks | The high nitrogen content of bitumen is a major disadvantage because nitrogenous species disturb deep desulfurization and provoke air pollution. Here, denitrogenation of model bitumen-derived fuel (n-octane and toluene mixtures composed of carbazole (CBZ) and dibenzothiophene (DBT)), through selective adsorption of nitrogencontaining compounds (NCCs), was studied firstly using a MOF, MIL-101(Cr) (named M101), especially after functionalization with ethylenediamine (ED) or diethylenetriamine (DETA). The maximum adsorption capacity (Q0) of M101-DETA for CBZ (per unit BET surface area) was 1.4 and 2.1 times that of M101-ED and M101, respectively, confirming the efficiency of the MOF in CBZ adsorption increased with increasing the number of amino groups on the MOF. This tendency was also observed in the model fuel containing both CBZ and DBT. Moreover, M101-DETA interacted more strongly with CBZ than DBT. All the observed results could be explained mainly with hydrogen bonding that was supported by a computational calculation and XPS analysis. Therefore, amine-functionalized MOFs such as M101-DETA (showing a high maximum adsorption capacity of 277.8 mg of CBZ/g) can be suggested as potential/recyclable materials for effective and selective removal of NCCs from fuels with a high concentration of SCCs. | Lee, Gyudong; Jhung, Sung Hwa | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Chem, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Green Nano Mat Res Ctr, Daegu 41566, South Korea | ; Jhung, Sung/AAO-6683-2021 | 57200987600; 6701659467 | sung@knu.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR LIQUIDS | J MOL LIQ | 0167-7322 | 1873-3166 | 390 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, PHYSICAL;PHYSICS, ATOMIC, MOLECULAR & CHEMICAL | 2023 | 5.3 | 13.7 | 0.29 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 2 | Adsorption; Amine-graftedmetal-organic frameworks; Bitumen-derived fuel; Denitrogenation; Hydrogen bonding | NITROGEN-CONTAINING COMPOUNDS; HYDROGEN-BOND; DENITROGENATION; DESULFURIZATION; OIL; HYDRODENITROGENATION; HYDRODESULFURIZATION; IMMOBILIZATION; CATALYSTS; INDOLE | Adsorption; Amine-grafted metal–organic frameworks; Bitumen-derived fuel; Denitrogenation; Hydrogen bonding | Bituminous materials; Gas adsorption; Grafting (chemical); Hydrogen; Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; Adsorption capacities; Amine-grafted metal–organic framework; Bitumen-derived fuel; Denitrogenation; Dibenzothiophenes; Diethylenetriamine; Effective removals; Ethylene diamine; Metalorganic frameworks (MOFs); Selective removal; Hydrogen bonds | English | 2023 | 2023-11-15 | 10.1016/j.molliq.2023.123169 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Experimental consideration for contact angle and force acting on bubble under nucleate pool boiling | Pool boiling experiments are performed within an isolated bubble regime at inclination angles of 0 degrees and 45 degrees. When a bubble grows and departs from the heating surface, the pressure, buoyancy, and surface tension force play important roles. The curvature and base diameter are required to calculate the pressure force, the bubble volume is required to calculate the buoyancy force, and the contact angle and base diameter are required to calculate the surface tension force. The contact angle, base diameter, and volume of the bubbles are evaluated using images captured via a high-speed camera. The surface tension force equation proposed by Fritz is modified with the contact angles obtained in this study. When the bubble grows, the contact angle decreases slowly. However, when the bubble departs, the contact angle rapidly increases owing to necking. At an inclination angle of 0 degrees, the contact angle is calculated as 82.88 degrees at departure. Additionally, the advancing and receding contact angles are calculated as 70.25 degrees and 82.28 degrees at departure, respectively, at an inclination angle of 45 degrees. The dynamic behaviors of bubble growth and departure are discussed with forces by pressure, buoyancy, and surface tension.(c) 2022 Korean Nuclear Society, Published by Elsevier Korea LLC. | ○ | ○ | Article | Feasibility study of improved median filtering in PET/MR fusion images with parallel imaging using generalized autocalibrating partially parallel acquisition | This study aimed to analyze the applicability of the improved median filter in positron emission to-mography (PET)/magnetic resonance (MR) fusion images based on parallel imaging using generalized autocalibrating partially parallel acquisition (GRAPPA). In this study, a PET/MR fusion imaging system based on a 3.0T magnetic field and 18F radioisotope were used. An improved median filter that can set a mask of the median value more efficiently than before was modeled and applied to the acquired image. As quantitative evaluation parameters of the noise level, the contrast to noise ratio (CNR) and coefficient of variation (COV) were calculated. Additionally, no-reference-based evaluation parameters were used to analyze the overall image quality. We confirmed that the CNR and COV values of the PET/MR fusion images to which the improved median filter was applied improved by approximately 3.32 and 2.19 times on average, respectively, compared to the noisy image. In addition, the no-reference-based evaluation results showed a similar trend for the noise-level results. In conclusion, we demonstrated that it can be supplemented by using an improved median filter, which suggests the problem of image quality degradation of PET/MR fusion images that shortens scan time using GRAPPA.(c) 2023 Korean Nuclear Society, Published by Elsevier Korea LLC. | ○ | ○ | Article | Measuring and unfolding fast neutron spectra using solution-grown trans-stilbene scintillation detector | We propose an overall procedure for measuring and unfolding fast neutron spectra using a trans-stilbene scintillation detector. Detector characterization was described, including the information on energy calibration, detector resolution, and nonproportionality response. The digital charge comparison method was used for the investigation of neutron-gamma Pulse Shape Discrimination (PSD). A pair of values of 600 ns pulse width and 24 ns delay time was found as the optimized conditions for PSD. A fitting technique was introduced to increase the trans-stilbene Proton Response Function (PRF) by 28% based on comparison of the simulated and experimental electron-equivalent distributions by the Cf-252 source. The detector response matrix was constructed by Monte-Carlo simulation and the spectrum unfolding was implemented using the iterative Bayesian method. The unfolding of simulated and measured spectra of Cf-252 and AmBe neutron sources indicates reliable, stable and no-bias results. The unfolding technique was also validated by the measured cosmic-ray induced neutron flux. Our approach is promising for fast neutron detection and spectroscopy. | ○ | ○ | Article | Multi-technique investigation on the surface interaction of diatomaceous earth with organic phase change material: Experimental and molecular dynamics aspects | To promote diatomaceous earth (DE)-based phase change composite as green energy building materials, this paper bridges the studies of experimental and molecular dynamics (MD) focusing on the absorption effect of phase change materials (PCMs). Octadecanoic acid (OA) was selected as PCMs and DE as supporting material for the fabrication of composite PCMs at different loading ratios; effect on thermal properties and porosity of the composite PCMs were further investigated by MD simulation. In consonance with ATR-FTIR and XRD analyses, the highest loading ratio (DEOA-4) was proven to absorb a high amount of PCMs, with excellent thermal stability and chemical compatibility. DEOA-4 exhibited higher latent heat storage capacity of 52.67 J/g, with a loading ratio and loading efficiency of 32.13 and 32.98 %. Besides, MD simulation showed that increasing the OA loading would decrease the fractional free volume of DEOA models, resulting in a limited mobility of PCMs molecules, as confirmed by self-diffusion coefficient at room and melting temperatures. Experimental and computational studies revealed that pore-filling process plays an imperative role during PCMs absorption. An adequate amount of loading ratio can potentially enhance the pore-filling process, maximize the efficiency of the performances, and promote the development of green energy in concrete structures. | Ishak, Shafiq; Lgaz, Hassane; Mandal, Soumen; Adnin, Raihana Jannat; Lee, Dong-Eun; Lee, Han-Seung; Harmay, Nurul Syahira Mohammad; Abdullah, Mohd Mustafa Al Bakri; Wang, Xiao-Yong; Yang, Hyun-Min | Univ Technol Malaysia UTM, Fac Civil Engn, Dept Struct & Mat, Johor Baharu 81310, Johor, Malaysia; Hanyang Univ, Dept Architectural Engn, 1271 Sa 3 Dong, Ansan 15588, South Korea; Hanyang Univ, Innovat Durable Bldg & Infrastruct Res Ctr, Ctr Creat Convergence Educ, 1271 Sa 3 Dong, Ansan 15588, South Korea; Hanyang Univ ERICA, Ind Acad Cooperat Fdn, 1271 Sa 3 Dong, Ansan 15588, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Intelligent Construct Automat Ctr, 80 Daehak Ro, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Hanyang Univ, Dept Smart City Engn, 1271 Sa 3 Dong, Ansan 15588, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Architecture Civil Environm & Energy, 1370 Sangyegk Dong, Daegu 702701, South Korea; Sungkyunkwan Univ, Sch Civil Architectural & Environm Syst Engn, Suwon 440746, South Korea; Univ Malaysia Perlis, Fac Chem Engn & Technol, Kangar 01000, Perlis, Malaysia; Kangwon Natl Univ, Dept Integrated Energy & Infra Syst, Dept Architectural Engn, Chuncheon Si 24341, South Korea; Hanyang Univ ERICA, Div Smart Convergence Engn, 1271 Sa 3 Dong, Ansan 15588, South Korea | ; Adnin, Jannat/GSN-0137-2022; Lgaz, Hassane/U-9805-2019; Lee, HanSeung/E-9087-2013; Harmay, Nurul/ISS-6145-2023; Lee, Han-Seung/E-9087-2013; Mandal, Soumen/AAB-3917-2021; Ishak, Shafiq/ABC-3063-2020 | 57218951467; 56707358100; 57214752240; 57366792600; 56605563300; 57956643400; 57222542754; 53164519100; 35202292100; 56097115000 | shafiq.ishak@utm.my;soumen22@hanyang.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR LIQUIDS | J MOL LIQ | 0167-7322 | 1873-3166 | 391 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, PHYSICAL;PHYSICS, ATOMIC, MOLECULAR & CHEMICAL | 2023 | 5.3 | 13.7 | 1.59 | 2025-06-25 | 11 | 12 | Diatomaceous earth; Phase change material; Thermal energy storage; Molecular dynamics; Free volume theory | AMORPHOUS SILICA; SELF-DIFFUSION; FORCE-FIELD; COMPOSITE; DIATOMITE; TRANSITION; SIMULATION; CAPACITY; CARBON | Diatomaceous earth; Free volume theory; Molecular dynamics; Phase change material; Thermal energy storage | Chemical stability; Computation theory; Diffusion in liquids; Heat storage; Molecular dynamics; Thermal energy; Composite phase change materials; Diatomaceous earth; Dynamics simulation; Free-volume theory; Green energy; Loading ratio; Octadecanoic acids; Pore filling process; Surface interactions; Thermal energy storage; Phase change materials | English | 2023 | 2023-12-01 | 10.1016/j.molliq.2023.123292 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Sensitivity analysis of failure correlation between structures, systems, and components on system risk | A seismic event caused an accident at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, which further resulted in simultaneous accidents at several units. Consequently, this incident has aroused great interest in the safety of nuclear power plants worldwide. A reasonable safety evaluation of such an external event should appropriately consider the correlation between SSCs (structures, systems, and components) and the probability of failure. However, a probabilistic safety assessment in current nuclear industries is performed conservatively, assuming that the failure correlation between SSCs is independent or completely dependent. This is an extreme assumption; a reasonable risk can be calculated, or risk-based decision-making can be conducted only when the appropriate failure correlation between SSCs is considered. Thus, this study analyzed the effect of the failure correlation of SSCs on the safety of the system to realize rational safety assessment and decision-making. Consequently, the impact on the system differs according to the size of the failure probability of the SSCs and the AND and OR conditions.(c) 2023 Korean Nuclear Society, Published by Elsevier Korea LLC. | ○ | ○ | Article | Smartphone-integrated paper-based biosensor for sensitive fluorometric ethanol quantification | The development of fluorometric paper-based analytical devices (fPADs) integrated with smartphone for fluorometric quantification of ethanol in an instrument-free and portable setup is described. The NAD(+)-dependent alcohol dehydrogenase immobilized within chitosan modified paper substate was utilized as a bio-recognition element and enzymatically generated NADH was used as a fluorescent probe. 3D-printed imaging setup which houses a paper chip holder and UV-light emitting device (LED) was developed for rapid, accurate capture of the fluorescent images. The biocompatible chitosan layer covering the paper provides a feasible environment for enzyme immobilization and enhances the fluorescence signal. The developed fPADs exhibited high sensitivity for ethanol detection and has a linear range for ethanol detection from 17 mu M to 8.75 mM (R-2 =0.99). Additionally, the fPADs were applied to quantify ethanol in four different wine samples including red, white, rose, and sparkling wines successfully. Moreover, the fPADs produce reproducible signals without loss of enzyme activity for at least 14 days and similar to 80% activity remained till 28 days. Thus, the proposed approach can provide a facile, affordable, portable, and instrument-free tool for the onsite quantification of ethanol in real samples and is applicable for food quality controls. | Santhosh, Mallesh; Park, Tusan | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Smart Agr Innovat Ctr, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Major Bioind Machinery Engn, Daegu, South Korea | ; Park, Tusan/C-2057-2012 | 56533710200; 57202780408 | tusan.park@knu.ac.kr; | MICROCHIMICA ACTA | MICROCHIM ACTA | 0026-3672 | 1436-5073 | 190 | 12 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL | 2023 | 5.4 | 13.7 | 0.31 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 3 | Ethanol biosensor; Wine analysis; Smartphone-based sensor; Portable fluorescence detection; Paper-based assay | ANALYTICAL DEVICES; IONIC LIQUID; CHITOSAN | Ethanol biosensor; Paper-based assay; Portable fluorescence detection; Smartphone-based sensor; Wine analysis | Biocompatibility; Biosensors; Chitosan; Enzyme activity; Enzyme immobilization; Ethanol; Fluorescence; Quality control; alcohol; alcohol dehydrogenase; chitosan; fluorescent dye; nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide; reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide; Ethanol biosensor; Ethanol detections; Fluorescence detection; NAD +; Paper-based analytical devices; Paper-based assay; Portable fluorescence detection; Smart phones; Smartphone-based sensor; Wine analysis; article; biosensor; controlled study; diagnosis; enzyme activity; enzyme immobilization; fluorescence; food quality; immobilization; light emitting diode; pharmaceutics; quality control; smartphone; sparkling wine; ultraviolet radiation; wine; Smartphones | English | 2023 | 2023-12 | 10.1007/s00604-023-06063-9 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | The luminescence properties of Eu3+or Tb 3+doped Lu2Gd1Ga2Al3O12 phosphors for X-ray imaging | The Tb3+ or Eu3+-doped Lu2Gd1Ga2Al3O12 phosphor were fabricated by funace at 1500 degrees C for 12 h using a solid state reaction. The XRD (X-ray diffractionPₐₙₐₗyₜᵢcₐₗ X'Pert Pro) and FE-SEM (field emission scanning electron microscope) are measured to confirm the crystalline structure and surface morphology of the phosphor. The Tb3+-doped Lu2Gd1Ga2Al3O12 phosphor emits the lights in 470-650 nm wavelength range due to transitions from 5D4 to 7Fj.Therefore, it shows the green region in the CIE chromaticity diagram under both UV and X-rays excitations. The Eu3+-doped Lu2Gd1Ga2Al3O12 phosphor emits the lights in 550-750 nm wavelength range because of 5Di to 7Fj. The emission is confirmed to be in the red region using the CIE chromaticity diagram. The Tb3+ or Eu3+-doped Lu2Gd1Ga2Al3O12 phosphor shows the characteristic f-f transition with a long decay time, which is about several milliseconds. They have the high efficiency of light emission for X-ray because of their high effective Z number (Zeff = 58.5) and density. Therefore, they are very much promising phosphors for X-ray imaging application in medical fields. | Oh, M. J.; Saha, Sudipta; Kim, H. | ○ | ○ | Article | In situ health monitoring of multiscale structures and its instantaneous verification using mechanoluminescence and dual machine learning | Extensive changes in the legal, commercial and technical requirements in engi-neering fields have necessitated automated real-time structural health moni-toring (SHM) and instantaneous verification. An integrated system with mechano-luminescence (ML) and dual artificial intelligence (AI) modules with subsidiary finite element method (FEM) simulation is designed for in situ SHM and instanta-neous verification. The ML module detects the exact position of a crack tip and evaluates the significance of existing cracks with a plastic stress-intensity factor (PSIF; KP). ML fields and their corresponding K-p(ML) values are referenced and veri-fied using the FEM simulation and bidirectional generative adversarial network (GAN). Well-trained forward and backward GANs create fake FEM and ML im-ages that appear authentic to observers; a convolutional neural network is used to postulate precise PSIFs from fake images. Finally, the reliability of the proposed system to satisfy existing commercial requirements is validated in terms of tension, compact tension, AI, and instrumentation. | Ahn, Seong Yeon; Timilsina, Suman; Shin, Ho Geun; Lee, Jeong Heon; Kim, Seong-Hoon; Sohn, Kee-Sun; Kwon, Yong Nam; Lee, Kwang Ho; Kim, Ji Sik | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Nano & Adv Mat Engn, Kyeongbuk 37224, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Adv Sci & Technol Convergence, Kyeongbuk 37224, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Software, Kyeongbuk 37224, South Korea; Sejong Univ, Nanotechnol & Adv Mat Engn, 209 Neungdong Ro, Seoul 143747, South Korea; Korea Inst Mat Sci, Dept Digital Platform, Chang Won 51508, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Automot Engn, Kyeongbuk 37224, South Korea | Timilisina, Suman/GLT-8029-2022 | 58044160100; 55844969100; 57215092476; 57207884867; 55718924000; 56067767800; 7403459230; 56348794600; 16444690100 | kyn1740@kims.re.kr;khl@knu.ac.kr;jisikkim@knu.ac.kr; | ISCIENCE | ISCIENCE | 2589-0042 | 26 | 1 | SCIE | MULTIDISCIPLINARY SCIENCES | 2023 | 4.6 | 13.8 | 1.42 | 2025-06-25 | 12 | 12 | PERSISTENT LUMINESCENCE; CRACK; SRAL2O4EU2+; SYSTEM; MODEL; DY3+ | Machine learning; Mechanical Phenomenon; Optical property | English | 2023 | 2023-01-20 | 10.1016/j.isci.2022.105758 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Morphological remodeling of Coxiella burnetii during its biphasic developmental cycle revealed by cryo-electron tomography | Coxiella burnetii is an obligate zoonotic bacterium that targets macrophages causing a disease called Q fever. It has a biphasic developmental life cycle where the extracellular and metabolically inactive small cell variant (SCV) transforms in-side the host into the vegetative large cell variant (LCV). However, details about the morphological and structural changes of this transition are still lacking. Here, we used cryo-electron tomography to image both SCV and LCV variants grown either under axenic conditions or purified directly from host cells. We show that SCVs are characterized by equidistant stacks of inner membrane that pre-sumably facilitate the transition to LCV, a transition coupled with the expression of the Dot/Icm type IVB secretion system (T4BSS). A class of T4BSS particles were associated with extracellular densities possibly involved in host infection. Also, SCVs contained spherical multilayered membrane structures of different sizes and locations suggesting no connection to sporulation as once assumed. | Kaplan, Doulin C.; Kaplan, Mohammed; Vankadari, Naveen; Kim, Ki Woo; Larson, Charles L.; Dutak, Przemysla; Beare, Paul A.; Krzymowski, Edward; Heinzen, Robert A.; Jensen, Grant J.; Ghosal, Debnath | Univ Melbourne, Mol Sci & Biotechnol Inst Bio21, Dept Biochem & Pharmacol, Melbourne, Vic, Australia; CALTECH, Div Biol & Biol Engn, Pasadena, CA 91125 USA; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Ecol & Environm Syst, Sangju, South Korea; Natl Inst Allergy & Infect Dis, NIH, Coxiella Pathogenesis Sect, Lab Bacteriol,Rocky Mt Lab, Hamilton, MT USA; CALTECH, Div Chem & Chem Engn, 1200 Calif Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91125 USA; Brigham Young Univ, Dept Phys & Astron, Provo, UT 84604 USA; Brigham Young Univ, Dept Chem & Biochem, Provo, UT 84604 USA; Univ Melbourne, Mol Sci & Biotechnol Inst Bio 21, ARC Ctr Cryo electron Microscopy Membrane Prot, Parkville, Vic, Australia | Kim, Ki Woo/AAC-5623-2022; Beare, Paul/JNS-1165-2023; Vankadari, Naveen/AAE-7381-2020 | 57304264400; 56594214400; 57204147743; 57201369889; 7202647976; 57190981282; 55889445500; 57985452100; 57210842809; 57221793597; 56526560800 | mohammedk@uchicago.edu;grant_jensen@byu.edu;debnath.ghosal@unimelb.edu.au; | ISCIENCE | ISCIENCE | 2589-0042 | 26 | 7 | SCIE | MULTIDISCIPLINARY SCIENCES | 2023 | 4.6 | 13.8 | 0.47 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 4 | IV SECRETION SYSTEM; PROTEIN; GROWTH; IDENTIFICATION; PEPTIDOGLYCAN; VISUALIZATION; VARIANTS; DELIVERY; IMAGE | Microbiology; Structural biology | English | 2023 | 2023-07-21 | 10.1016/j.isci.2023.107210 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | ○ | Editorial Material | Bidirectional Communication Between Microglia and Astrocytes in Neuroinflammation | Neuroinflammation is a common feature of diverse nervous system pathologies. In many instances, it begins at an early stage of the disease, paving the way for further exacerbations. The main drivers of neuroinflammation are brain-resident glial cells, such as microglia and astrocytes. Microglia are the primary responders to any insult to the brain parenchyma, translating the signals into diverse molecules. These molecules derived from microglia can regulate the stimuli-dependent reactivity of astrocytes. Once activated, astrocytes in turn, can control microglia phenotypes. Recent evidence indicates that the crosstalk between these glial cells plays an important role in delaying or accelerating neuroinflammation and overall disease progression. To date, various molecules have been recognized as key mediators of the bidirectional communication between microglia and astrocytes. The current review aims to discuss the novel molecules identified recently, which play a critical role in interglial crosstalk, highlighting their therapeutic potential. | Bhusal, Anup; Afridi, Ruqayya; Lee, Won-Ha; Suk, Kyoungho | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Pharmacol, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Biomed Sci, BK21 Plus KNU Creat Biores Grp, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Life Sci, BK21 Plus KNU Creat Biores Grp, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Brain Sci & Engn Inst, Daegu 41944, South Korea | 57200274141; 57200759784; 57205609794; 7005114595 | ksuk@knu.ac.kr; | CURRENT NEUROPHARMACOLOGY | CURR NEUROPHARMACOL | 1570-159X | 1875-6190 | 21 | 10 | SCIE | NEUROSCIENCES;PHARMACOLOGY & PHARMACY | 2023 | 4.8 | 14.0 | 24.6 | 2025-06-25 | 32 | 31 | Microglia; astrocytes; crosstalk; neuroinflammation; glia; central nervous system | CENTRAL-NERVOUS-SYSTEM; ANTIMICROBIAL PEPTIDE; CROSS-TALK; PHENOTYPE; POLARIZATION; EXPRESSION; PATHWAY; MODELS; INJURY; CELLS | astrocytes; central nervous system; crosstalk; glia; Microglia; neuroinflammation | Astrocytes; Brain; Humans; Inflammation; Microglia; Neuroglia; Neuroinflammatory Diseases; complement component C3; interleukin 15; interleukin 18; interleukin 1alpha; interleukin 1beta; interleukin 33; mitogen activated protein kinase; monocyte chemotactic protein 1; phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase; protein kinase B; transforming growth factor beta; tumor necrosis factor; vasculotropin; astrocyte; central nervous system; disease exacerbation; glia; glia cell; human; microglia; nervous system inflammation; nonhuman; Note; parenchyma; phenotype; brain; inflammation; nervous system inflammation | English | 2023 | 2023 | 10.2174/1570159x21666221129121715 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | SHM-BASED PRACTICAL SAFETY EVALUATION AND VIBRATION CONTROL MODEL FOR STEEL PIPES | Unexpected damages or failures of steel pipes in refineries cause significant disruption to economic activity. While research has been conducted on the prevention of damage to steel pipes, no systematic methods or practical techniques for monitoring of vibrations to estimate the state of pipeline system have been reported. In this study, vibration safety evaluation model consisting of design - evaluation - control steps was developed to measure and control the vibration level during operation of the piping system of an oil refinery. The measurement location was designed by examining the structure of the pipe, and the vibration level measured at each location was compared with the allowable vibration level. Subsequently, two types of vibration reduction measures, namely, dynamic absorbers and viscous dampers, were introduced to reduce the vibration level. The effect of the application of the monitoring system was evaluated by comparing the vibration levels of the steel pipes before and after the application of the dynamic absorbers and viscous dampers. The vibrations of steel pipes in the oil refinery during operation decreased by over 50%. Upon applying the dynamic absorbers and viscous dampers, the responses of the frequency component also exhibited local and global reductions of approximately 50-80%. | Bae, Sang Geun; Choi, Jewoo; Kang, Deok Shin; Hong, Taehoon; Lee, Dong-Eun; Park, Hyo Seon | Yonsei Univ, Dept Architectural Engn, Seoul, South Korea; Hyundai Engn & Construct, Seoul, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Architecture Civil Engn Environm & Energy, Daegu, South Korea | Choi, Jewoo/MGT-4857-2025 | 57205453285; 57205453819; 26324043700; 57969349700; 56605563300; 55669886900 | hspark@yonsei.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT | J CIV ENG MANAG | 1392-3730 | 1822-3605 | 29 | 8 | SCIE | ENGINEERING, CIVIL | 2023 | 4.3 | 14.0 | 0.34 | 2025-06-25 | 3 | 3 | monitoring system; measurement; steel pipe; oil refinery. | FINITE-ELEMENT-METHOD; MODAL IDENTIFICATION; DAMAGE DETECTION; OIL; PERFORMANCE | measurement; monitoring system; oil refiner; steel pipe | Petroleum refineries; Steel pipe; Control model; Dynamic absorber; Economic activities; Monitoring system; Oil refiner; Oil refineries; Safety evaluations; Systematic method; Vibration level; Viscous dampers; Economics | English | 2023 | 2023 | 10.3846/jcem.2023.20146 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | The semaphorin 3A/neuropilin-1 pathway promotes clonogenic growth of glioblastoma via activation of TGF-β signaling | Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most lethal brain cancer with a dismal prognosis. Stem-like GBM cells (GSCs) are a major driver of GBM propagation and recurrence; thus, understanding the molecular mechanisms that promote GSCs may lead to effective therapeutic approaches. Through in vitro clonogenic growth-based assays, we determined mitogenic activities of the ligand molecules that are implicated in neural development. We have identified that semaphorin 3A (Sema3A), originally known as an axon guidance molecule in the CNS, promotes clonogenic growth of GBM cells but not normal neural progenitor cells (NPCs). Mechanistically, Sema3A binds to its receptor neuropilin-1 (NRP1) and facilitates an interaction between NRP1 and TGF-beta receptor 1 (TGF-beta R1), which in turn leads to activation of canonical TGF-beta signaling in both GSCs and NPCs. TGF-beta signaling enhances self-renewal and survival of GBM tumors through induction of key stem cell factors, but it evokes cytostatic responses in NPCs. Blockage of the Sema3A/NRP1 axis via shRNA-mediated knockdown of Sema3A or NRP1 impeded clonogenic growth and TGF-beta pathway activity in GSCs and inhibited tumor growth in vivo. Taken together, these findings suggest that the Sema3A/NRP1/TGF-beta R1 signaling axis is a critical regulator of GSC propagation and a potential therapeutic target for GBM. | Jeon, Hye-Min; Shin, Yong Jae; Lee, Jaehyun; Chang, Nakho; Woo, Dong-Hun; Lee, Won Jun; Nguyen, Dayna; Kang, Wonyoung; Cho, Hee Jin; Yang, Heekyoung; Lee, Jin-Ku; Sa, Jason K.; Lee, Yeri; Kim, Dong Geon; Purow, Benjamin W.; Yoon, Yeup; Nam, Do-Hyun; Lee, Jeongwu | Cleveland Clin, Dept Canc Biol, Lerner Res Inst, Cleveland, OH USA; Samsung Med Ctr, Inst Refractory Canc Res, Seoul, South Korea; Sungkyunkwan Univ, Samsung Adv Inst Hlth Sci & Technol, Grad Sch Hlth Sci & Technol, Seoul, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Biomed Convergence Sci & Technol, Daegu, South Korea; Seoul Natl Univ, Coll Med, Dept Biomed Sci, Seoul, South Korea; Seoul Natl Univ, Coll Med, Dept Anat & Cell Biol, Seoul, South Korea; Korea Univ, Coll Med, Dept Biomed Sci, Seoul, South Korea; Univ Virginia, Dept Neurol, Charlottesville, VA USA; Lerner Res Inst, NE6-209,9500 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, OH 44195 USA; Samsung Med Ctr, 81 Irwon Ro, Seoul 06351, South Korea | ; Lee, Joo Yong/ADE-2110-2022; Shin, Yong/A-3102-2012 | 56222840200; 56803085000; 57202017289; 55694714600; 59434088400; 58164112900; 57894743900; 42061408000; 55937716400; 37762439900; 7601485095; 56803454400; 55614435100; 57161227100; 6508182475; 7402126678; 57190971869; 55689973000 | nsnam@skku.edu;leej7@ccf.org; | JCI INSIGHT | JCI INSIGHT | 2379-3708 | 8 | 21 | SCIE | MEDICINE, RESEARCH & EXPERIMENTAL | 2023 | 6.3 | 14.0 | 1.28 | 2025-06-25 | 5 | 5 | GENE-EXPRESSION SIGNATURE; STEM-CELLS; TUMOR-CELLS; INITIATING CELLS; RECEPTOR; TUMORIGENICITY; NEUROPILIN-1; INCREASES; MEMBRANE | neuropilin 1; semaphorin 3A; short hairpin RNA; stem cell factor; transforming growth factor beta; transforming growth factor beta receptor 1; adult; animal experiment; animal model; animal tissue; Article; bioassay; cancer cell; cancer growth; cell growth; cell self-renewal; cell survival; controlled study; gene knockdown; glioblastoma; human; human cell; human tissue; in vitro study; in vivo study; male; mouse; neural stem cell; nonhuman; protein analysis; protein binding; protein protein interaction; signal transduction | English | 2023 | 2023-11-08 | 10.1172/jci.insight.167049 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
