| ○ | ○ | Article | Collagenous gastroduodenocolitis in a Korean adolescent: first pediatric case report in Asia | Collagenous gastritis (CG) is a rare disease diagnosed histologically by the subepithelial deposition of collagen bands thicker than 10 mu m and the infiltration of inflammatory mononuclear cells in the lamina propria. The definite pathophysiology is yet to be elucidated. However, recent studies have suggested that the collagen deposition may be the result of a reparative process in response to an earlier inflammatory, autoimmune, infectious, or toxic insult. CG is divided into the pediatric-and adult-type. While the pediatric type is limited to the stomach, the adult-type involves not only the stomach but also the intestine and/or colon. We report a rare case of adult-type CG in a 15-year-old boy who initially presented with abdominal pain and iron-deficiency anemia. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) revealed findings suspicious for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) gastritis. Although histology did not reveal the organism, campylobacter-like organism (CLO) test was positive. Based on the diagnosis of suspicious H. pylori gastritis, eradication was conducted using the triple drug regimen. However, symptoms of intermittent abdominal pain persisted and diarrhea newly developed one year later. Histologic results from biopsies from the stomach, duodenum, and colon revealed findings compatible with CG, collagenous duodenitis (CD), and collagenous colitis (CC). This is the first pediatric case of collagenous gastroduodenocolitis (CGDC) reported in Asia. It is no longer assumed that adult-type and pediatric-type CG should be classified as an independent disease, but should be considered as similar diseases on a continuous spectrum. Therefore, children and adolescents diagnosed with CG should also consider undergoing a colonoscopy for the evaluation of possible coexisting CC when concurrent lower gastrointestinal symptoms are present. Moreover, considering the possibility of negative findings on the first endoscopy, repeat endoscopy should be considered when symptoms persist. | Kang, Ben; Um, Soo Hyun; Yun, Jaehun; Kim, Hee Kyung; Choe, Byung-Ho; Lee, Yoo Min | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Pediat, Daegu, South Korea; Soonchunhyang Univ, Bucheon Hosp, Coll Med, Dept Pediat, Bucheon, South Korea; Soonchunhyang Univ, Bucheon Hosp, Coll Med, Dept Pathol, Bucheon, South Korea | Choe, Byung-Ho/KSM-6251-2024; 康, 奔/JMQ-0812-2023; Lee, Yong Jae/GLR-4153-2022 | 57194823199; 57356001000; 57355857200; 56714172200; 57574977300; 55588928200 | flana@schmc.ac.kr; | TRANSLATIONAL PEDIATRICS | TRANSL PEDIATR | 2224-4336 | 2224-4344 | 10 | 11 | SCIE | PEDIATRICS | 2021 | 4.047 | 17.3 | 0.31 | 2025-07-30 | 3 | 2 | Case report; collagenous colitis (CC); collagenous duodenitis (CD); collagenous gastritis (CG) colonoscopy | GASTRITIS; COLITIS; CHILDREN | Case report; Collagenous colitis (CC); Collagenous duodenitis (CD); Collagenous gastritis (CG); Colonoscopy | albumin; amoxicillin; antinuclear antibody; C reactive protein; calgranulin; clarithromycin; congo red; ferritin; globulin; hemoglobin; iron; lansoprazole; prednisolone; smooth muscle antibody; transferrin; abdominal pain; adolescent; adolescent disease; Article; ascending colon; bacterial clearance; body mass; case report; cecum; clinical article; collagenous colitis; collagenous gastroduodenocolitis; colon biopsy; colon mucosa; colonoscopy; descending colon; diarrhea; duodenum; epigastric pain; erythrocyte sedimentation rate; esophagogastroduodenoscopy; fasting; gastritis; gastrointestinal symptom; Helicobacter infection; Helicobacter pylori; hematocrit; hemoglobin blood level; human; human tissue; immunochemistry; iron binding capacity; iron deficiency anemia; iron therapy; leukocyte count; male; mean corpuscular hemoglobin; mean corpuscular volume; null result; pathogenesis; platelet count; rare disease; repeat procedure; sigmoid; South Korea; stomach antrum; transferrin saturation; transverse colon; treatment failure; urea breath test | English | 2021 | 2021-11 | 10.21037/tp-21-342 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |

| ○ | ○ | Article | Electro-optic diffractive multifocal lens with electrically reconfigurable multifocal planes | Despite the recent advances in correcting complex vision problems using the progressive addition lens, the narrow field of view of the lens often causes visual discomforts including dizziness and headache. The electro-optic lens technologies have shown promising potential for ophthalmic applications, but additional systems are needed to enable the time-multiplex switching of the focal power among multiple foci. Here, we demonstrate the electro-optic diffractive multifocal lens that provides multiple focal planes simultaneously by distributing the light pass through the lens to the zeroth and first-order diffraction focal planes of two LC diffractive lenses. The proposed LC diffractive lens offers six combinations of bifocal planes, nine combinations of trifocal planes, and 12 combinations of quadfocal planes that are electrically switchable without compromising the field of view when combined with a refractive lens such as a human crystalline lens. The diffractive multifocal lens technology shows promising potential for correcting ophthalmic vision problems as well as mitigating the vergence-accommodation conflict in augmented and virtual reality displays. | Kumar, Mareddi Bharath; Kang, Daekyung; Adeshina, Mohammad Awwal; Kim, Soobae; Kim, Taewan; Park, Jonghoo | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Elect Engn, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Biomed Convergence Sci & Technol, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu, South Korea; Jeonbuk Natl Univ, Dept Elect Engn, Jeonju, South Korea; Jeonbuk Natl Univ, Smart Grid Res Ctr, Jeonju, South Korea | Mareddi, Bharathkumar/HSA-7535-2023 | 57190606826; 57211869035; 57216582237; 55377374400; 57199878285; 57196408322 | jonghoopark@knu.ac.kr; | OPTICS AND LASERS IN ENGINEERING | OPT LASER ENG | 0143-8166 | 1873-0302 | 139 | SCIE | OPTICS | 2021 | 5.666 | 17.3 | 0.24 | 2025-07-30 | 4 | 4 | Diffractive lens; Multifocal lens; Electro-optic focus tunable lens; Ophthalmic vision problems | Diffractive lens; Electro-optic focus tunable lens; Multifocal lens; Ophthalmic vision problems | Focusing; Augmented and virtual realities; Crystalline lens; Diffractive lens; Multifocal lens; Progressive addition lens; Through the lens; Vision problems; Visual discomfort; Lenses | English | 2021 | 2021-04 | 10.1016/j.optlaseng.2020.106459 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | High-density single shot 3D sensing using adaptable speckle projection system with varying preprocessing | The speckle pattern is highly prevalent in stereo-photogrammetry systems. The speckles generated by the laser and the diffuser are influenced by the subjective noise and change the appearance with the distance. In addition to this, the density of the 3D point cloud is a major stumbling block when only one pattern for reconstruction is allowed. In this work, we propose a system to counter the aforementioned problems. When the distance of the object is changed, the proposed system adapts itself to change the speckle size back to the required optimal size for the algorithm. The speckle size is varied by changing the position of the diffuser using a motorized linear stage. We propose a preprocessing method to reduce the subjective speckle-noise based on histogram equalization and edge preserving contrast enhancement. The amount of preprocessing varies with the distance of the object for the optimization of the 3D reconstructions. Experiments are performed to realize the effect of new preprocessing and variable preprocessing methods. The results indicate that the density of the 3D point is better than the Kinect and previous single shot method and comparable to the multiple shot professional 3D scanner. | Khan, Danish; Kim, Min Young | Kyungpook Natl Univ, IT Coll, Sch Elect Engn, 1370 Sankyuk Dong, Daegu 702701, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Res Ctr Neurosurg Robot Syst, 1370 Sankyuk Dong, Daegu 702701, South Korea | Khan, Danish/AAW-6708-2021 | 57200212320; 56739349100 | mykim@ee.knu.ac.kr; | OPTICS AND LASERS IN ENGINEERING | OPT LASER ENG | 0143-8166 | 1873-0302 | 136 | SCIE | OPTICS | 2021 | 5.666 | 17.3 | 0.87 | 2025-07-30 | 12 | 11 | Active 3D sensing; Depth map; Laser speckle pattern; Adaptive speckle pattern | SHAPE MEASUREMENT; RECONSTRUCTION; PROFILOMETRY; ACQUISITION; HISTOGRAM; OBJECTS | Active 3D sensing; Adaptive speckle pattern; Depth map; Laser speckle pattern | Image reconstruction; Photogrammetry; 3D reconstruction; Contrast Enhancement; Histogram equalizations; Pre-processing method; Speckle projections; Stereophotogrammetry; Subjective speckle; Variable preprocessings; Speckle | English | 2021 | 2021-01 | 10.1016/j.optlaseng.2020.106312 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | The occurrence of infection-related systemic diseases in Korean children and adolescents has decreased after the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic: a multicenter retrospective study | Background: The occurrences of infection-related systematic diseases, such as Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP), intussusception, and mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome (MCLS) may have decreased, similarly to the decreased occurrence of infectious diseases following the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. We aimed to investigate whether there was a change in the occurrence of these diseases in South Korea after the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: In this multicenter, retrospective study conducted in 16 medical centers in South Korea patients diagnosed with HSP, intussusception, and MCLS at the age of <18 years between January 2016 and December 2020 were included. New occurrences of these three diseases were investigated monthly and annually, while to compare between the pre- and post-COVID-19 era cases, new occurrences between 2017-2019 and 2020 were compared. Additionally, the total annual occurrence rate was calculated by dividing each center's occurrence into the annual population per 100,000 of the population <18 years in each region that the center covers. Results: A total 6,857 patients were included in this study. From 2017 to 2020, the number of patients diagnosed with HSP, intussusception, MCLS at the age of <18 years were 1,301, 1,693, and 3,863 patients, respectively. The average number of patients during the three years before the COVID-19 pandemic were each 379.7, 505.3, and 1,112.0 for HSP, intussusception, MCLS, respectively, which each decreased by 57.3%, 65.0%, 52.6% to 162, 177, 527 in 2020, respectively. Furthermore, the total annual occurrence rate showed a significant decrease in 2020 compared to 2017 to 2019 in all three diseases (2017-2020; HSP: 11.85, 12.96, 10.52, and 5.48; intussusception: 13.94, 16.97, 16.31, and 5.98; MCLS: 33.89, 35.11, 34.69, and 17.82, respectively). Conclusions: We revealed that the occurrence of HSP, intussusception, and MCLS, which are representative of infection-related systemic diseases in the pediatric population, decreased significantly after the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic | Hong, Suk Jin; Kang, Ben; Hwang, Jun Hyun; Kim, Yu Bin; Lee, Yoo Min; Jang, Hyo-Jeong; Lee, Kyung Jae; Kim, Soon Chul; Kang, Yunkoo; Kim, Hyun Jin; Kim, Ju Young; Choi, You Jin; Lee, Eun Hye; Choi, So Yoon; Lee, Eunjoo; Choe, Byung-Ho; Chae, Soo Ahn; Choi, Sujin; Suh, Won Suk; Song, Jeonglyn; Yi, Dae Yong | Daegu Catholic Univ, Dept Pediat, Sch Med, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Kyungpook Natl Univ Childrens Hosp, Div Pediat Gastroenterol, Daegu, South Korea; Daegu Catholic Univ, Sch Med, Dept Prevent Med, Daegu, South Korea; Ajou Univ, Dept Pediat, Med Ctr, Suwon, South Korea; Soonchunhyang Univ, Coll Med, Dept Pediat, Soonchunhyang Univ Bucheon Hosp, Bucheon, South Korea; Keimyung Univ, Dept Pediat, Dongsan Med Ctr, Sch Med, Daegu, South Korea; Hallym Univ, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, Chunchon, South Korea; Jeonbuk Natl Univ Med Sch & Hosp, Dept Pediat, Jeonju, South Korea; Yonsei Univ, Dept Pediat, Wonju Coll Med, Wonju, South Korea; Chungnam Natl Univ Hosp, Dept Pediat, Daejeon, South Korea; Eulji Univ Hosp, Dept Pediat, Daejeon, South Korea; Inje Univ, Dept Pediat, Ilsan Paik Hosp, Goyang, South Korea; Eulji Univ, Nowon Eulji Med Ctr, Dept Pediat, Sch Med, Seoul, South Korea; Kosin Univ, Coll Med, Kosin Univ Gospel Hosp, Dept Pediat, Busan, South Korea; Inje Univ, Haeundae Paik Hosp, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, Busan, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyunpook Natl Univ Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Pediat, Daegu, South Korea; Chung Ang Univ, Chung Ang Univ Hosp, Coll Med, Dept Pediat, Seoul, South Korea; Chung Ang Univ, Ind Acad Cooperat Fdn, Seoul, South Korea | Yi, Dae/G-1729-2014; Lee, Yong Jae/GLR-4153-2022; lee, dong/I-9385-2017; 康, 奔/JMQ-0812-2023; Choe, Byung-Ho/KSM-6251-2024; Kim, Siwon/KHX-9078-2024 | 56573097000; 57194823199; 36129337200; 57212382905; 55588928200; 55355948500; 57022460500; 36087407700; 55607051000; 58975661600; 57202996384; 56063619400; 57188855950; 57207282105; 57207364950; 57574977300; 35733319800; 57223972405; 57355727100; 57604976400; 57190851975 | benkang@knu.ac.kr;meltemp2@hanmail.net; | TRANSLATIONAL PEDIATRICS | TRANSL PEDIATR | 2224-4336 | 2224-4344 | 10 | 11 | SCIE | PEDIATRICS | 2021 | 4.047 | 17.3 | 0.62 | 2025-07-30 | 5 | 5 | COVID-19; Henoch-Schonlein Purpura; intussusception; mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome | HENOCH-SCHONLEIN PURPURA; KAWASAKI-DISEASE; INTUSSUSCEPTION | COVID-19; Henoch-Schönlein Purpura; Intussusception; Mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome | adolescent; anaphylactoid purpura; Article; child; controlled study; coronavirus disease 2019; female; human; intestinal intussusception; major clinical study; male; mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome; pandemic; pediatric patient; retrospective study; South Korea; systemic disease | English | 2021 | 2021-11 | 10.21037/tp-21-315 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |

| ○ | ○ | Article | Post-collisional denudation of an orogenic belt traced from geochronological and bulk-rock geochemical records of the western Korean Peninsula | The western Korean Peninsula preserves evidence for multiple Proterozoic to Phanerozoic orogenic processes along the convergent continental margins. After the Late Palaeozoic to Early Mesozoic collisional stage within the long-lived tectonic Wilson cycles, the area underwent post-collisional extensional tectonics, creating the Late Triassic to Early Jurassic basins on top of the collisional orogenic belt. Here, we present the LA-MC-ICP-MS U-Pb ages of detrital zircons and bulk-rock geochemical data from post-collisional basin fills (viz., the Nampo and Gimpo groups and the Seokmun Formation) and the overlying volcano-sedimentary sequence (Oseosan Volcanic Complex). Our results suggest that (1) the Nampo Group was supplied with detritus mainly from nearby felsic igneous rocks or geochemically equivalent migmatitic basement gneisses, while the Gimpo Group and Seokmun Formation were predominantly sourced from (meta-)sedimentary rocks, likely reflecting their structural positions in the orogenic belt in terms of the exhumed basement-dominant hinterland side vs. the cover rock-dominant foreland side of the mountain belt; (2) the ages of the youngest zircon group in the Nampo Group and the overlying Oseosan Volcanic Complex (ca. 1854 age peak in the lowermost unit and ca. 164 Ma age peak in the uppermost unit) tend to approach the sedimentation ages with ascending stratigraphic order, indicating a transition from a collisional to a convergent tectonic setting during sedimentation. The results from this study provides important insights into the sedimentary response to the evolution of the collisional orogenic belt along the western Korean Peninsula and elucidates the Mesozoic tectonic transition from collisional (closure of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean) to convergent (subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Ocean) processes in the Far East Asian continental margin. | Lee, Hyojong; Park, Seung-Ik; Choi, Taejin; Sim, Min Sub | Seoul Natl Univ, Sch Earth & Environm Sci, Seoul, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Geol, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Chosun Univ, Dept Energy & Resources Engn, Gwangju, South Korea | Choi, Taejin/AAI-4361-2020 | 57211349468; 55832472000; 34975182800; 35763810200 | psi@knu.ac.kr; | INTERNATIONAL GEOLOGY REVIEW | INT GEOL REV | 0020-6814 | 1938-2839 | 63 | 1 | SCIE | GEOLOGY | 2021 | 3.047 | 17.4 | 0.65 | 2025-07-30 | 10 | 10 | Post-collision; Provenance; Orogenic denudation; Mesozoic tectonic transition; East Asian continental margin | ZIRCON U-PB; SOUTHWESTERN GYEONGGI MASSIF; SOUTH-KOREA; TECTONIC EVOLUTION; TAEAN FORMATION; IMJINGANG BELT; METAMORPHIC EVOLUTION; SEDIMENTARY RESPONSE; NORTHERN MARGIN; COLLISION BELT | East Asian continental margin; Mesozoic tectonic transition; Orogenic denudation; Post-collision; Provenance | Korea; Tethys; continental collision; continental margin; denudation; geochemistry; geochronology; geological record; Mesozoic; orogenic belt; provenance | English | 2021 | 2021-01-02 | 10.1080/00206814.2019.1706649 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Importance of Fine Control of Se Flux for Improving Performances of Sb2Se3 Solar Cells Prepared by Vapor Transport Deposition | Sb2Se3 possesses a quasi-1D (Q1D) structure, which creates an anisotropic charge transporting behavior in which the carrier transport is very efficient along the Q1D direction, which is beneficial for solar cells as long as the absorber is properly aligned along the preferred orientation. However, Sb2Se3 is prone to form donor-like defects, such as V-Se, that are detrimental to the performance. Therefore, both growth of Sb2Se3 along the preferred orientations and the suppression of the formation of V-Se are crucial in achieving Sb2Se3 solar cells with a high efficiency. Herein, the importance of fine control of the extra supply of Se during the deposition of Sb2Se3 in controlling crystallographic orientations and the population of V-Se in the Sb2Se3 films is described. This control determines the performance of the resulting solar cells in a superstrate configuration with a CdS buffer. Incorporation of Se during the growth resulted in a larger open-circuit voltage due to the passivation of V-Se. However, an excess supply of Se disrupts the favorable orientation by selenizing the top region of the CdS, and therefore degraded the short-circuit current. Through the optimization of the extra supply of Se vapor, the power conversion efficiency is improved from 3.7% to 5.2%. | Kim, Jekyung; Ji, Seunghwan; Jang, Yuseong; Jeong, Giuk; Choi, Jiwoon; Kim, Daehan; Nam, Sung-Wook; Shin, Byungha | Korea Adv Inst Sci & Technol KAIST, Dept Mat Sci & Engn, Daejeon 34141, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Daegu 41405, South Korea | Kim, Daehan/LEN-2209-2024; Nam, Sung-Wook/V-5519-2019; Shin, Byungha/E-8602-2014 | 57193218380; 57225183272; 59824857600; 57194557137; 57210450611; 57022417900; 16167127700; 8910734900 | nams@knu.ac.kr;byungha@kaist.ac.kr; | SOLAR RRL | SOL RRL | 2367-198X | 5 | 8 | SCIE | ENERGY & FUELS;MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY | 2021 | 9.173 | 17.5 | 1.33 | 2025-07-30 | 18 | 19 | coevaporation of Se; crystallographic orientations; Sb2Se3 solar cells; vapor transport deposition | THIN-FILM; EFFICIENCY | coevaporation of Se; crystallographic orientations; Sb2Se3 solar cells; vapor transport deposition | Antimony compounds; Cadmium sulfide; Cadmium sulfide solar cells; Conversion efficiency; Deposition; Efficiency; II-VI semiconductors; Open circuit voltage; Selenium; Sulfur compounds; Charge transporting; Crystallographic orientations; High-efficiency; Improving performance; Power conversion efficiencies; Preferred orientations; Superstrates; Vapor transport; Vanadium compounds | English | 2021 | 2021-08 | 10.1002/solr.202100327 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Adherence and Associated Factors of Treatment Regimen in Drug-Susceptible Tuberculosis Patients | Background: Adherence to tuberculosis (TB) drugs is one of the key aspects of global TB control, yet there is a lack of epidemiological evidence on the factors influencing adherence to TB drugs. Thus, this study aimed to explore the adherence and factors associated with adherence among TB patients in South Korea. Methods: We conducted a cohort study using a sampled national healthcare database from 2017 to 2018. Our study population included incident TB patients initiating quadruple or triple regimen who were available for follow-up for 180-days. Adherence was evaluated using the proportion of days covered (PDC): 1) adherent group: patients with PDC >= 80%; 2) non-adherent group: patients with PDC = 65 years (aOR 0.53; 95% CI 0.35-0.81), with a history of dementia (aOR 0.53; 95% CI 0.34-0.85), and with history of diabetes mellitus (aOR 0.70; 95% CI 0.52-0.96) were less likely to adhere to the drug. Conclusion: Approximately 45% of TB patients were non-adherent to the drug, which is a major concern for the treatment outcome. We call for intensified attention from the authorities and healthcare providers to reinforce patients' adherence to the prescribed TB drugs. | Bea, Sungho; Lee, Hyesung; Kim, Ju Hwan; Jang, Seung Hun; Son, Hyunjin; Kwon, Jin-Won; Shin, Ju-Young | Sungkyunkwan Univ, Sch Pharm, Suwon, South Korea; Hallym Univ, Sacred Heart Hosp, Dept Med, Div Pulm Allergy & Crit Care Med, Anyang, South Korea; Dong A Univ, Dept Prevent Med, Coll Med, Busan, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Pharm, BK21 FOUR Community Based Intelligent Novel Drug, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Res Inst Pharmaceut Sci, Daegu, South Korea; Sungkyunkwan Univ, Samsung Adv Inst Hlth Sci & Technol SAIHST, Seoul, South Korea | Lee, Hyesung/GPC-5111-2022; Kim, Ju Hwan/ADG-3199-2022 | 57222590269; 57203821417; 57205475996; 7402219050; 57203048631; 16202951700; 34267857100 | shin.jy@skku.edu; | FRONTIERS IN PHARMACOLOGY | FRONT PHARMACOL | 1663-9812 | 12 | SCIE | PHARMACOLOGY & PHARMACY | 2021 | 5.988 | 17.7 | 2.76 | 2025-07-30 | 30 | 38 | adherence; drug-susceptible tuberculosis; nationwide study; discontinuation; claims database | MEDICATION ADHERENCE; DEFINITIONS; THERAPY; GOUT | adherence; claims database; discontinuation; drug-susceptible tuberculosis; nationwide study | ethambutol; isoniazid; pyrazinamide; rifabutin; rifampicin; adolescent; adult; aged; Article; child; cohort analysis; dementia; diabetes mellitus; disease predisposition; female; follow up; health care utilization; human; incidence; infant; major clinical study; male; medical history; newborn; patient compliance; retrospective study; sensitivity analysis; South Korea; treatment duration; treatment outcome; tuberculosis | English | 2021 | 2021-03-15 | 10.3389/fphar.2021.625078 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Effects of Dipsacus asperoides Extract on Monosodium Iodoacetate-Induced Osteoarthritis in Rats Based on Gene Expression Profiling | The root of Dipsacus asperoides C. Y. Cheng et T. M. Ai is traditionally used as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent to treat pain, rheumatoid arthritis, and bone fractures. However, neither its effects on osteoarthritis (OA) nor its effects on the arthritic cartilage tissue transcriptome have not been fully investigated. In this study, we used a rat model of monosodium iodoacetate- (MIA-) induced OA to investigate the therapeutic effects of a Dipsacus asperoides ethanolic extract (DAE, 200 mg/kg for 21 days). The study first assessed joint diameter, micro-CT scans, and histopathological analysis and then conducted gene expression profiling using RNA sequencing in articular cartilage tissue. We found that DAE treatment ameliorates OA disease phenotypes; it reduced the knee joint diameter and prevented changes in the structural and histological features of the joint, thereby showing that DAE has a protective effect against OA. Based on the results of gene expression profiling and subsequent pathway analysis, we found that several canonical pathways were linked to DAE treatment, including WNT/beta-catenin signaling. Taken together, the present results suggest molecular mechanism, involving gene expression changes, by which DAE has a protective effect in a rat model of MIA-induced OA. | Chun, Jin Mi; Lee, A. | ○ | ○ | Review | Health-Related Quality of Life Based on EQ-5D Utility Score in Patients With Tuberculosis: A Systematic Review | Background: Tuberculosis (TB) has significant effects on patients' health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and this study was conducted to evaluate the HRQOL based on EQ-5D utility score according to various health statuses of TB patients. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted to select articles on HRQOLs outcomes of TB patients since 2000. A total of 1,710 articles were searched for primary screening and seven studies that directly assessed all types of TB patients using the EQ-5D were finally selected. Results: The EQ-5D scores of TB patients were in the ranges of 0.43-0.70. After the completion of TB treatment, the utility weights increased to the ranges of 0.88-0.98 and the EQ VAS values showed similar trend as the results of the EQ-5D. The EQ-5D score for multi-drug-resistant TB was very low at 0.51 during treatment but increased to 0.88 after the treatment was completed. The utility weights of latent TB were not significantly different from those of the general population. Conclusion: This study showed that the HRQOL based on the EQ-5D utility score of TB patients has significantly decreased, and the TB treatment has a significantly positive effect on the quality of life of patients. | Park, Hae-Young; Cheon, Hyo-Bin; Choi, Sun Ha; Kwon, Jin-Won | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Pharm, BK21 FOUR Community Based Intelligent Novel Drug, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Pharmaceut Sci Res Inst, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Lung Canc Ctr, Chilgok Hosp, Daegu, South Korea | ; Choi, Sun Ha/HPD-7234-2023 | 57203771734; 57223131003; 57199723585; 16202951700 | jwkwon@knu.ac.kr; | FRONTIERS IN PHARMACOLOGY | FRONT PHARMACOL | 1663-9812 | 12 | SCIE | PHARMACOLOGY & PHARMACY | 2021 | 5.988 | 17.7 | 1.49 | 2025-07-30 | 17 | 16 | tuberculosis; quality of life; EQ-5D; systematic review; meta– analysis | MULTIDRUG-RESISTANT TUBERCULOSIS; IMPACT; BEDAQUILINE | EQ-5D; meta–analysis; quality of life; systematic review; tuberculosis | tuberculostatic agent; Article; European Quality of Life 5 Dimensions 3 Level questionnaire; European Quality of Life 5 Dimensions 5 Level questionnaire; European Quality of Life 5 Dimensions questionnaire; European Quality of Life 5 Dimensions Visual Analogue Scale; human; multidrug resistant tuberculosis; quality of life; systematic review; tuberculosis | English | 2021 | 2021-04-14 | 10.3389/fphar.2021.659675 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 |
