| ○ | ○ | Article | Expression of Piezo2 in the Dental Pulp, Sensory Root, and Trigeminal Ganglion and Its Coexpression with Vesicular Glutamate Transporters | Introduction: Information on the type of vesicular glutamate transporter (VGLUT) that is expressed in the Piezo2-positive (Piezo2+) neurons in the trigeminal ganglion (TG) and on the type of Piezo2+ axons and their distribution in the dental pulp is important for understanding dental pain elicited by mechanical stimuli and developing new therapeutic strategies. Methods: We examined the expression of Piezo2 and its coexpression with VGLUT1 and VGLUT2 in rat TG, the sensory root, and human dental pulp using light and electron microscopic immunohistochemistry and quantitative analysis. Results: VGLUT1 and VGLUT2 were expressed in the TG neurons. Piezo2 was expressed in axons of all types but primarily in small myelinated (A delta) axons in the sensory root. In the dental pulp, Piezo2 was expressed densely in the numerous axons that form a plexus in the peripheral pulp. Piezo2+ axons in the peripheral pulp were mostly unmyelinated, and Piezo2 immunoreactivity was often concentrated near the axolemma, suggesting that it may represent functional receptors. Conclusions: These findings suggest that VGLUT1 and VGLUT2 are involved in the glutamate signaling in Piezo2+ neurons, Piezo2 may be primarily activated by noxious mechanical stimuli, and Piezo2-mediated dental mechanotransduction may be primarily elicited in the peripheral pulp. | ○ | ○ | Article | Oncologic benefit of adjuvant chemotherapy for locally advanced rectal cancer after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and curative surgery with selective lateral pelvic lymph node dissection: An international retrospective cohort study | Introduction: Intensive local treatment comprising total mesorectal excision (TME) with selective lateral pelvic lymph node dissection (LPND) after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT) for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) has received attention among clinicians treating rectal cancer. It remains unclear whether adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) after intensive local treatment is beneficial for these patients. We evaluated the oncologic benefit of ACT for patients with LARC who received intensive local treatment. Materials and methods: This international multicentre retrospective cohort study included 737 patients treated in Japan and Korea between 2010 and 2017. The effectiveness of ACT on recurrence-free survival (RFS) was evaluated using univariable and multivariable Cox proportional hazards models, with subgroup analyses to identify subpopulations potentially benefiting from ACT. Results: The median follow-up was 49 months; the 5-year RFS and local recurrence rates for the entire cohort were 72.1% and 4.9%, respectively; 514 patients (69.7%) received adjuvant chemotherapy, without an oncologic benefit (hazard ratio, 1.14; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.79-1.68) demonstrated in the multivariable Cox regression analysis. In subgroup analyses, the distributions of the 95% CI in patients aged >= 70 years and those with ypStage 0 tended to place a disproportionate emphasis that favoured the non-ACT treatment strategy. Conclusion: Despite achieving good local control with intensive local treatment strategy, the effectiveness of ACT for the LARC patients with CRT followed by TME with selective LPND was not proved. Elderly patients and those with ypStage0 may not receive benefit from ACT after CRT and TME +/- LPND. | ○ | ○ | Article | Synthetic PPAR Agonist DTMB Alleviates Alzheimer's Disease Pathology by Inhibition of Chronic Microglial Inflammation in 5xFAD Mice | Abnormal productions of amyloid beta (A beta) plaque and chronic neuroinflammation are commonly observed in the brain of patients with Alzheimer's disease, and both of which induce neuronal cell death, loss of memory, and cognitive dysfunction. However, many of the drugs targeting the production of A beta peptides have been unsuccessful in treating Alzheimer's disease. In this study, we identified synthetic novel peroxisome proliferator-activating receptor (PPAR) agonist, DTMB, which can ameliorate the chronic inflammation and A beta pathological progression of Alzheimer's disease. We discovered that DTMB attenuated the proinflammatory cytokine production of microglia by reducing the protein level of NF-kappa B. DTMB also improved the learning and memory defects and reduced the amount of A beta plaque in the brain of 5xFAD mice. This reduction in A beta pathology was attributed to the changes in gliosis and chronic inflammation level. Additionally, bulk RNA-sequencing showed that genes related to inflammation and cognitive function were changed in the hippocampus and cortex of DTMB-treated mice. Our findings demonstrate that DTMB has the potential to be a novel therapeutic agent for Alzheimer's disease. | Oh, Eunji; Kang, Jeong-Hwa; Jo, Kyung Won; Shin, Won-Sik; Jeong, Young-Hun; Kang, Byunghee; Rho, Tae-Young; Jeon, So Yeon; Lee, Jihoon; Song, Im-Sook; Kim, Kyong-Tai | Pohang Univ Sci & Technol POSTECH, Dept Life Sci, 77 Cheongam Ro, Pohang 790784, South Korea; Dankook Univ, Coll Pharm, Cheonan 31116, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Pharm, Daegu 41566, South Korea | ; Park, Mi-Kyung/J-9643-2017 | 57206200330; 57756783500; 57732627200; 57218249573; 59964868100; 55560166200; 57828038700; 57226815842; 57195979045; 7201564500; 7409315595 | jk3172@postech.ac.kr;junghwak@postech.ac.kr;kwjo0201@postech.ac.kr;wonsik775@postech.ac.kr;jyh130@postech.ac.kr;qudgm10411@postech.ac.kr;tyrho@postech.ac.kr;ojsw97@naver.com;legadema0905@knu.ac.kr;songimsook1@gmail.com;ktk@postech.ac.kr; | NEUROTHERAPEUTICS | NEUROTHERAPEUTICS | 1933-7213 | 1878-7479 | 19 | 5 | SCIE | CLINICAL NEUROLOGY;NEUROSCIENCES;PHARMACOLOGY & PHARMACY | 2022 | 5.7 | 14.9 | 1.16 | 2025-06-25 | 10 | 9 | Alzheimer's disease; Neuroinflammation; Microglia; Astrocyte; PPAR | PROLIFERATOR-ACTIVATED RECEPTOR; NF-KAPPA-B; CROSS-TALK; NEUROINFLAMMATION; ALPHA; NEURODEGENERATION; CONTRIBUTES; MECHANISM; TOXICITY; DOCKING | Alzheimer's disease; Astrocyte; Microglia; Neuroinflammation; PPAR | Alzheimer Disease; Amyloid beta-Peptides; Animals; Cytokines; Disease Models, Animal; Inflammation; Mice; Mice, Transgenic; Microglia; NF-kappa B; Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors; Peroxisome Proliferators; Plaque, Amyloid; Receptors, Artificial; RNA; amyloid beta protein; dtmb; immunoglobulin enhancer binding protein; peroxisome proliferator activated receptor agonist; unclassified drug; amyloid beta protein; artificial receptor; cytokine; immunoglobulin enhancer binding protein; peroxisome proliferator; peroxisome proliferator activated receptor; RNA; 5xFAD mouse; adult; Alzheimer disease; animal cell; animal experiment; animal model; animal tissue; antiinflammatory activity; area under the curve; Article; astrocyte; brain cortex; chronic inflammation; controlled study; cytokine production; drug blood level; elimination half-life; embryo; female; gliosis; hippocampus; human; human cell; learning disorder; male; maximum plasma concentration; memory disorder; microglia; mouse; nonhuman; RNA sequencing; amyloid plaque; animal; disease model; genetics; inflammation; metabolism; microglia; transgenic mouse | English | 2022 | 2022-09 | 10.1007/s13311-022-01275-y | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |

| ○ | ○ | Article | Framework for selection of temporary disaster waste management sites for post-flood recovery in Seoul, South Korea | In this study, a multi-criteria geographical information system (GIS) framework is proposed to address complicated decision-making problems associated with the selection of temporary disaster waste management sites (TDWMSs). Focusing on post-flood conditions, the framework considers potential limitations on vehicle access and transport based on flood depths and road widths. The usability of the framework was evaluated by applying it to Seoul, South Korea, the location chosen for this case study. Fourteen criteria were constructed, and TDWMS suitability was determined based on a weighted sum analysis. Compared with the existing TDWMSs in Seoul, the minimum, maximum, and mean suitability scores of the TDWMSs identified using the proposed framework improved by 27.27%, 11.54%, and 23.08%, respectively. The described approach can inform the decision-making of urban planners to improve resilience to flooding by identifying candidate sites with relatively superior suitability ratings. Our approach also serves as a starting point for the development of integrated models and solutions capable of addressing complicated decision-making problems for TDWMS selection that consider post-disaster conditions. | Lee, Yoon-Ha; Kim, Young-Chan; Lee, Hye-kyoung | Changshin Univ, Dept Fire & Disaster Prevent Engn, Chang Won 51352, South Korea; Dongguk Univ Gyeongju, Dept Safety Engn, 123 Dongdae Ro, Gyeongju 38066, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, A3 Architecture AI Automat Inst, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 57218699556; 56463201400; 57209320452 | yyoungchani@gmail.com; | INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF DISASTER RISK REDUCTION | INT J DISAST RISK RE | 2212-4209 | 71 | SCIE | GEOSCIENCES, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;METEOROLOGY & ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCES;WATER RESOURCES | 2022 | 5 | 15.0 | 1.43 | 2025-06-25 | 10 | 13 | Disaster waste; Temporary disaster waste management site; Multi-criteria; Geographical information system; Disaster waste; Temporary disaster waste management site; Multi-criteria; Geographical information system | CLIMATE-CHANGE; SUPPLY CHAIN; GIS; OPTIMIZATION; IMPACTS; DISRUPTIONS; RESILIENCE; TRANSPORT; CLEANUP; HAZARD | Disaster waste; Geographical information system; Multi-criteria; Temporary disaster waste management site | English | 2022 | 2022-03 | 10.1016/j.ijdrr.2022.102832 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Influence of an R&D lot on productivity in semiconductor manufacturing | Both high productivity of finished goods and new product development are important for manufacturing firms to compete in a market successfully. High productivity is closely related to near-term profit, while new product development is imperative for long-term competitiveness. In a semiconductor fabrication facility, the final stage of new product development is testing new R&D lots in a real mass production environment. Because the test shares the same facility of mass production, if the R&D lots are processed to prioritize fast product development, it negatively influences the productivity of the lines. This study develops a stochastic model to analyze how the flow speed of R&D lots affects starvation of a bottleneck stage and the throughput of regular production lots on a semiconductor fabrication line. The model calculates the distributions of the delay time of R&D lots and the starvation time of the bottleneck stage under a given flow control policy of the R&D lots. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate how this model can be used on actual manufacturing lines to determine appropriate speeds of R&D lots. | Chung, Jaewoo; Jang, Jaejin | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Business Adm, 80 Daehak Ro, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Univ Wisconsin, Dept Ind & Mfg Engn, 3200 N Cramer St, Milwaukee, WI 53211 USA | 55470448800; 7402965493 | chung@knu.ac.kr;jang@uwm.edu; | COMPUTERS & INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING | COMPUT IND ENG | 0360-8352 | 1879-0550 | 168 | SCIE | COMPUTER SCIENCE, INTERDISCIPLINARY APPLICATIONS;ENGINEERING, INDUSTRIAL | 2022 | 7.9 | 15.0 | 0.69 | 2025-06-25 | 5 | 7 | Priority lot management; Starvation avoidance; Product development; R & D lot management; Semiconductor fabrication; Display fabrication | CAPACITY ALLOCATION; WAFER FABRICATION; PERFORMANCE; MANAGEMENT; SIMULATION; MACHINE; SETUP | Display fabrication; Priority lot management; Product development; R&D lot management; Semiconductor fabrication; Starvation avoidance | Product development; Productivity; Semiconductor device manufacture; Stochastic models; Stochastic systems; Throughput; A: semiconductors; Display fabrication; High productivity; Mass production; New product development; Priority lot management; R&D lot management; Semi-conductor fabrication; Semiconductor manufacturing; Starvation avoidance; Fabrication | English | 2022 | 2022-06 | 10.1016/j.cie.2022.108030 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | UzADL: Anomaly detection and localization using graph Laplacian matrix-based unsupervised learning method | Visual inspection is an essential quality control process in industrial businesses. It is usually automated due to its tedious procedure. An automated visual inspection (AVI) attempts to detect items with abnormal patterns based on image data. Recent developments in computer vision models, especially the introduction of deep convolutional neural networks, has extensively improved the accuracy and speed of AVI systems. However, supervised learning approaches for AVI necessitate a large number of annotated data, while the unsupervised ones lack accuracy and interpretability as well as require an extensive amount of time for training and inference. Therefore, in this study, we propose an unsupervised learning-based computationally inexpensive, efficient, and interpretable model UzADL for AVI to address the aforementioned problems. This system has three principal stages. First, unlabeled images are annotated using a pseudo-labeling algorithm. Second, the obtained instances are trained during a training process stage. Third, identified abnormal instances' defective regions are explicitly visualized using an anomaly interpretation technique. Owing to an elaborate unsupervised learning method based on the pseudo-labeling algorithm using graph Laplacian matrix that allows transforming defect detection into a classification task, the proposed system has rapid convergence ability and significantly outperforms existing deep learning-based AVI methods. In the experiments conducted with three real-life fabric material databases NanoTWICE, MVTec anomaly detection (MVTec AD), and DWorld datasets UzADL outperformed other methods in terms of accuracy and speed when assessed using several evaluation metrics. | Olimov, Bekhzod Alisher Ugli; Veluvolu, Kalyana C.; Paul, Anand; Kim, Jeonghong | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Comp Sci & Engn Dept, 80 Daehakro, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect Engn, 80 Daehakro, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Veluvolu, Kalyana/C-6366-2011; Olimov, Bekhzod/AAA-9362-2021; Paul, Anand/V-6724-2017 | 57220579660; 8703318200; 56650522400; 55138548100 | bekhzed.olimov@knu.ac.kr;veluvolu@ec.knu.ac.kr;anand@knu.ac.kr;jhk@knu.ac.kr; | COMPUTERS & INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING | COMPUT IND ENG | 0360-8352 | 1879-0550 | 171 | SCIE | COMPUTER SCIENCE, INTERDISCIPLINARY APPLICATIONS;ENGINEERING, INDUSTRIAL | 2022 | 7.9 | 15.0 | 2.86 | 2025-06-25 | 23 | 29 | Deep convolutional neural networks; Fabric defect detection; Industrial quality inspection; Interpretable automated visual inspection; Unsupervised learning | DATA-DRIVEN; SYSTEMS | Deep convolutional neural networks; Fabric defect detection; Industrial quality inspection; Interpretable automated visual inspection; Unsupervised learning | Anomaly detection; Automation; Convolution; Convolutional neural networks; Deep neural networks; Defects; Inspection; Laplace transforms; Learning systems; Matrix algebra; Anomaly detection; Automated visual inspection; Convolutional neural network; Deep convolutional neural network; Fabric defect detection; Graph Laplacian; Industrial quality; Industrial quality inspection; Interpretable automated visual inspection; Quality inspection; Unsupervised learning | English | 2022 | 2022-09 | 10.1016/j.cie.2022.108313 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Asymmetrical PWM Scheme Eliminating Duty Cycle Limitation in Input-Parallel Output-Series DC-DC Converter | In this letter, an asymmetrical pulsewidth modulation (PWM) scheme is proposed to solve the output voltage unbalance and voltage gain issues of the input-parallel output-series (IPOS) converter when D < 0.5. With the proposed scheme, the natural output voltages balancing and high step-up conversion ratio can be extended when D < 0.5. As a result, combined with the conventional PWM scheme, the duty cycle limitation of the IPOS converter is completely eliminated without any extra components or dedicated control. A 2-kW prototype of the IPOS converter was built and tested to verify the performance of the proposed PWM scheme. | Dai-Van Bui; Cha, Honnyong; Chan Viet Nguyen | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Energy Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Bui, Van-Dai/AAE-6202-2022; BUI, VAN-DAI/AAE-6202-2022 | 57221961296; 24450248400; 57210827612 | buidai68@gmail.com;chahonny@knu.ac.kr;ncviet93@gmail.com; | IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON POWER ELECTRONICS | IEEE T POWER ELECTR | 0885-8993 | 1941-0107 | 37 | 3 | SCIE | ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC | 2022 | 6.7 | 15.1 | 2.12 | 2025-06-25 | 14 | 28 | Asymmetrical pulsewidth modulation (PWM); boost converter; dual-output; input-parallel output-series (IPOS) converter; voltage balancing | BOOST CONVERTER | Asymmetrical pulsewidth modulation (PWM); boost converter; dual-output; input-parallel output-series (IPOS) converter; voltage balancing | DC-DC converters; Electric inverters; Power electronics; Voltage control; Asymmetrical pulse-width modulation; BOOST converter; Dual outputs; Inductor; Input-parallel output-series converter; Output series; Parallel output; Power-electronics; Prototype; Pulsewidth modulations (PWM); Series converter; Voltage balancing; Voltage balancing 1; Pulse width modulation | English | 2022 | 2022-03 | 10.1109/tpel.2021.3113732 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Automatic Mitigation of Current Imbalance for m-Phase Interleaved LLC Resonant Converter | The LLC resonant converter offers a promising solution for dc power conversion. The input-parallel output-parallel system offers low specification switches to use in high power applications. Moreover, the interleaving of the converters reduces the requirement of input and output passive filters, providing better dynamic performance and higher power density. However, the tolerances in the designed resonant components and the unavoidable mismatch in the circuit parameters lead to unbalanced estimated tank gain characteristics. Consequently, the zero-voltage-switching is lost, a serious imbalance in currents appears, and a thermal runaway is likely to occur. The proposed method utilizes the existing magnetics of resonant inductors and self-alleviates the imbalance in the output, input, and tank currents without increasing active or passive components, dedicated balancing controls, and expensive sensors. A 4 kW four-phase prototype is tested during steady state, transients, and phase-shedding modes to validate the performance of the proposed method. | Naseem, Nabeel; Cha, Honnyong | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Energy Engn, Daegu 702701, South Korea | Naseem, Nabeel/AAL-9740-2021 | 57210829179; 24450248400 | nabeelnaseem@gmail.com;chahonny@knu.ac.kr; | IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON POWER ELECTRONICS | IEEE T POWER ELECTR | 0885-8993 | 1941-0107 | 37 | 9 | SCIE | ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC | 2022 | 6.7 | 15.1 | 1.02 | 2025-06-25 | 12 | 13 | Inductors; Resonant converters; Windings; Magnetics; Transformers; Legged locomotion; Air gaps; Automatic; balancing; converter; coupled; current; interleaved current balancing coupled inductor (ICBCL); imbalance; inductor; interleaved; input-parallel output-parallel (IPOP); LLC; mitigation; phase-shedding; resonant; sensor-less | Automatic; balancing; converter; coupled; current; imbalance; inductor; input-parallel output-parallel (IPOP); interleaved; interleaved current balancing coupled inductor (ICBCL); LLC; mitigation; phase-shedding; resonant; sensor-less | Electric inductors; Passive filters; Tanks (containers); Zero voltage switching; 'current; Air-gaps; Automatic; Converter; Coupled; ICBCL; Imbalance; Inductor; Input-parallel output-parallel; Interleaved; Legged locomotion; LLC; Mitigation; Parallel output; Phase-shedding; Resonant; Resonant converters; Sensorless; Transformer; Power converters | English | 2022 | 2022-09 | 10.1109/tpel.2022.3168080 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Care and Management of Voice Change in Thyroid Surgery: Korean Society of Laryngology, Phoniatrics and Logopedics Clinical Practice Guideline | Voice change is a common complaint after thyroid surgery and has a significant impact on quality of life. The Korean Society of Laryngology, Phoniatrics and Logopedics assembled a task force to establish guideline recommendations on education, care, and management related to thyroid surgery. The guideline recommendations encompass preoperative voice education, management of anticipated voice change during surgery, and comprehensive voice care after thyroid surgery, and include in-depth information and up-to-date knowledge based on validated literature. The committee constructed 14 key questions (KQs) in three categories-preoperative (KQ 1-2), intraoperative (KQ 3-8), and postoperative (KQ 9-14) management-and developed 18 evidence-based recommendations. The Delphi survey reached an agreement on each recommendation. A detailed evidence profile is presented for each recommendation. The level of evidence for each recommendation was classified as high-quality, moderate-quality, or low-quality. The strength of each recommendation was designated as strong or weak considering the level of evidence supporting the recommendation. The guidelines are primarily targeted toward physicians who treat thyroid surgery patients and speech-language pathologists participating in patient care. | ○ | ○ | Article | Characteristics and Mechanisms of Marine Heatwaves in the East Asian Marginal Seas: Regional and Seasonal Differences | Characteristics of marine heatwaves (MHWs) in the East Asian Marginal Seas (EAMS) were investigated using the daily Optimum Interpolation Sea Surface Temperature for 37 years (1982-2018), focusing on seasonal changes and regional differences. The summer MHWs occur 54% more frequently (2.7 events/decade) in a relatively wide area than in other seasons. The strong (up to 3.7 degrees C) and long-lasting (up to 38 days/event) winter MHWs are concentrated along the subpolar front (SPF) in the East/Japan Sea (EJS) where the MHWs are 20% longer (2.2 days/event) than in the Yellow and East China Seas (YECS). The summer MHWs are primarily driven by increased shortwave radiation associated with reduced cloud cover and latent cooling from the weakened wind over the western flank of developing subtropical highs. Driving mechanisms of the winter MHWs differ by region. The YECS MHWs occur mainly due to the atmospheric processes associated with weakening continental highs, while the EJS MHWs are largely driven by the northward shift of the SPF. Although large-scale atmospheric processes primarily drive the summer MHWs occurring in a wide area in the EAMS, our findings suggest that ocean processes can be major contributors to intensified MHW generation in limited areas, especially in winter. | Choi, Wonkeun; Bang, Minkyoung; Joh, Youngji; Ham, Yoo-Geun; Kang, Namyoung; Jang, Chan Joo | Korea Inst Ocean Sci & Technol, Ocean Circulat Res Ctr, Busan 49111, South Korea; Univ Sci & Technol, Dept Ocean Sci, Daejeon 34113, South Korea; Korea Maritime & Ocean Univ, Ocean Sci & Technol Sch, Busan 49112, South Korea; Princeton Univ, Atmospher & Ocean Sci Program, Princeton, NJ 08544 USA; Chonnam Natl Univ, Dept Oceanog, Gwangju 61186, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Geog, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Joh, Youngji/GLN-3522-2022; Choi, Wonkeun/NJS-7293-2025 | 57203354590; 57195591982; 57198421901; 8971211200; 54580993100; 7103149678 | dnjsrms@kiost.ac.kr;b910111@kiost.ac.kr;youngji.joh@princeton.edu;ygham@jnu.ac.kr;nkang4@knu.ac.kr;cjjang@kiost.ac.kr; | REMOTE SENSING | REMOTE SENS-BASEL | 2072-4292 | 14 | 15 | SCIE | ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES;GEOSCIENCES, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;IMAGING SCIENCE & PHOTOGRAPHIC TECHNOLOGY;REMOTE SENSING | 2022 | 5 | 15.1 | 1.44 | 2025-06-25 | 15 | 16 | marine heatwaves; sea surface temperature; ocean dynamics; atmospheric forcing; composite analysis; extreme climate | THERMOHALINE STRUCTURE; SURFACE TEMPERATURE; WESTERN-AUSTRALIA; JAPAN/EAST SEA; HEAT-WAVE; CIRCULATION; VARIABILITY | atmospheric forcing; composite analysis; extreme climate; marine heatwaves; ocean dynamics; sea surface temperature | Atmospheric temperature; Oceanography; Submarine geophysics; Surface waters; Atmospheric forcing; Composite analysis; Extreme climates; Heatwaves; Marginal seas; Marine heatwave; Ocean dynamics; Sea surface temperature; Sea surfaces; Surface temperatures; Surface temperature | English | 2022 | 2022-08 | 10.3390/rs14153522 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Classification of Precipitation Types Based on Machine Learning Using Dual-Polarization Radar Measurements and Thermodynamic Fields | An accurate classification of the precipitation type is important for forecasters, particularly in the winter season. We explored the capability of three supervised machine learning (ML) methods (decision tree, random forest, and support vector machine) to determine ground precipitation types (no precipitation, rain, mixed, and snow) for winter precipitation. We provided information on the particle characteristics within a radar sampling volume and the environmental condition to the ML model with the simultaneous use of polarimetric radar variables and thermodynamic variables. The ML algorithms were optimized using predictor selection and hyperparameter tuning in order to maximize the computational efficiency and accuracy. The random forest (RF) had the highest skill scores in all precipitation types and outperformed the operational scheme. The spatial distribution of the precipitation type from the RF model showed a good agreement with the surface observation. As a result, RF is recommended for the real-time precipitation type classification due to its easy implementation, computational efficiency, and satisfactory accuracy. In addition to the validation, this study confirmed the strong dependence of precipitation type on wet-bulb temperature and a 1000-850 hPa layer thickness. The results also suggested that the base heights of the radar echo are useful in discriminating non-precipitating area. | Shin, Kyuhee; Kim, Kwonil; Song, Joon Jin; Lee, GyuWon | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Atmospher Sci, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Ctr Atmospher REmote Sensing CARE, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Baylor Univ, Dept Stat Sci, Waco, TX 76798 USA | ; Kim, Kwonil/HTN-0103-2023; Shin, Kyuhee/LMO-2829-2024 | 57222003871; 57191964318; 14062434200; 7404852271 | kwonil@knu.ac.kr; | REMOTE SENSING | REMOTE SENS-BASEL | 2072-4292 | 14 | 15 | SCIE | ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES;GEOSCIENCES, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;IMAGING SCIENCE & PHOTOGRAPHIC TECHNOLOGY;REMOTE SENSING | 2022 | 5 | 15.1 | 0.99 | 2025-06-25 | 11 | 12 | precipitation type; machine learning; dual-polarization radar; thermodynamic field | POLARIMETRIC RADAR; HYDROMETEOR CLASSIFICATION; FUZZY-LOGIC; RAIN; TEMPERATURE; EVAPORATION; SCHEME; PHASE; SNOW; DISCRIMINATION | dual-polarization radar; machine learning; precipitation type; thermodynamic field | Computational efficiency; Polarization; Radar measurement; Support vector machines; Thermodynamics; Dual polarization radar measurements; Dual polarization radars; Machine-learning; Measurement field; On-machines; Precipitation type; Random forests; Supervised machine learning; Thermodynamic fields; Winter seasons; Decision trees | English | 2022 | 2022-08 | 10.3390/rs14153820 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Compact Solid-State Marx Modulator With Fast Switching for Nanosecond Pulse | This article describes the compact solid-state Marx modulator (SSMM) with a fast rising time and a short pulsewidth based on the modular structure. By stacking of the TO-263-7 packaged silicon carbide mosfets having high voltage and fast switching capabilities, the designed circuit consists of three components, including the Marx capacitor, an on switch for applying pulse to the load, and an off switch to pull down the pulse. The off switch connected in parallel with load is chosen as a mosfet instead of a diode that is used in the conventional Marx generator. Because the off switch provides a discharging path for the stored energy on the parasitic capacitance, it is highly related to the fast falling time. In order to provide complementary driving signal and power for on/off switches, the simple control algorithm with a minimum component count and a reliable drive circuit against the noise are proposed. In addition, the synchronization of all the gate signals and a compact configuration for minimizing the stray inductance are essential to shorten the rising, falling, and pulsewidth. Based on the proposed circuit, the following specifications of the developed SSMM are achieved: the output voltage of 10 kV, the pulsewidth of less than 50 ns, and the rising and falling times of less than 15 ns. | Bae, Jung-Soo; Kim, Tae-Hyun; Son, Seong-Ho; Gwon, Chang-Hyun; Kim, Hyoung-Suk; Yu, Chan-Hun; Jang, Sung-Roc | Univ Sci & Technol, Dept Energy & Power Convers Engn, Daejeon 34113, South Korea; Korea Electrotechnol Res Inst, Electrophys Res Ctr, Chang Won 51435, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Energy Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | ; Bae, Jung-Soo/JFB-2559-2023; Kim, Tae/AAV-5521-2020; Kim, Tae/C-5935-2015; Shon, Seongho/LOI-5826-2024 | 57195575347; 57219837559; 57219842388; 57486584000; 58740330300; 57190813654; 26422309700 | jsbae0324@ust.ac.kr;appleigig@keri.re;shsou95@keri.re.kr;kch5725@keri.re.kr;khs@keri.re.kr;chyu@keri.re.kr;scion10@keri.re.kr; | IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON POWER ELECTRONICS | IEEE T POWER ELECTR | 0885-8993 | 1941-0107 | 37 | 8 | SCIE | ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC | 2022 | 6.7 | 15.1 | 2.2 | 2025-06-25 | 26 | 28 | Switches; Logic gates; MOSFET; Capacitors; Inductance; Gate drivers; Silicon carbide; High-voltage techniques; power electronics; power semiconductor devices; pulse power systems | DESIGN | High-voltage techniques; power electronics; power semiconductor devices; pulse power systems | Inductance; Modulators; Power MOSFET; Silicon carbide; Wide band gap semiconductors; Fast switching; Gate drivers; High voltage techniques; Marx modulators; MOS-FET; MOSFETs; Power-electronics; Pulse power systems; Pulsewidths; Pulswidths; Capacitance | English | 2022 | 2022-08 | 10.1109/tpel.2022.3156586 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Comparative Evaluation for Tracking the Capability of Solar Cell Malfunction Caused by Soil Debris between UAV Video versus Photo-Mosaic | Monitoring the malfunction of the solar cells (for instance, 156 mm by 156 mm) caused by the soil debris requires a very low flight altitude when taking aerial photos, utilizing the autopilot function of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The autopilot flight can only operate at a certain level of altitude that can guarantee collision avoidance for flight obstacles (for instance, power lines, trees, buildings) adjacent to the place where the solar panel is installed. For this reason, aerial photos taken by autopilot flight capture unnecessary objects (surrounding buildings and roads) around the solar panel at a tremendous level. Therefore, the autopilot-based thermal imaging causes severe data redundancy with very few matched key-points around the malfunctioned solar cells. This study aims to explore the tracking capability on soil debris defects in solar cell scale between UAV video versus photo-mosaic. This study experimentally validated that the video-based thermal imaging can track the thermal deficiency caused by the malfunction of the solar cell at the level of the photo-mosaic in terms of correlation of thermal signatures (0.98-0.99), detection on spatial patterns (81-100%), and distributional property (90-95%) with 2.5-3.4 times more matched key-points on solar cells. The results of this study could serve as a valuable reference for employing video stream in the process of investigating soil debris defects in solar cell scale. | Hwang, Young-Seok; Schlueter, Stephan; Park, Seong-Il; Um, Jung-Sup | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyungpook Inst Oceanog, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Ulm Univ Appl Sci, Dept Math Nat & Econ Sci, D-89075 Ulm, Germany; Ulsan Bigdata Ctr, Ulsan Res Inst, Innovat Growth Res Div, Ulsan 44720, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Geog, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Um, Jung-Sup/F-5351-2018 | 57218585482; 55258366500; 57204267829; 35173565000 | youngseokhwang@knu.ac.kr;stephan.schlueter@thu.de;sipark227@uri.re.kr;jsaeom@knu.ac.kr; | REMOTE SENSING | REMOTE SENS-BASEL | 2072-4292 | 14 | 5 | SCIE | ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES;GEOSCIENCES, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;IMAGING SCIENCE & PHOTOGRAPHIC TECHNOLOGY;REMOTE SENSING | 2022 | 5 | 15.1 | 0.18 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 2 | unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV); video; solar cell; photo-mosaic; soil debris; thermal deficiency; hot spots | MODULES; CAMPUS | Hot spots; Photo-mosaic; Soil debris; Solar cell; Thermal deficiency; Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV); Video | Air navigation; Aircraft detection; Antennas; Debris; Defects; Inspection; Pattern recognition; Soils; Solar panels; Aerial photos; Hotspots; Photo mosaic; Soil debris; Solar panels; Thermal; Thermal deficiency; Thermal-imaging; Unmanned aerial vehicle; Video; Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) | English | 2022 | 2022-03 | 10.3390/rs14051220 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Dual-Buck Three-Switch Leg Converters With Reduced Number of Passive Components | Like conventional two-switch leg converters, the three-switch leg converters also have short-circuit risks and a dangerous shoot-through current is generated if switches of the same leg are turned on simultaneously. In this article, a new dual-buck structure is proposed for three-switch leg converters. The proposed structure is reliable because of no shoot-through concerns and high quality of output waveforms can be obtained due to the reduction in pulsewidth modulation deadtime. Unlike the conventional dual-buck three-switch leg that uses many passive components such as four current limiting inductors and three external diodes, the new dual-buck three-switch leg uses only one current limiting inductor with two external diodes. To verify the performance, the proposed three-switch legs are used in single-phase dual-output inverter and detailed theoretical analysis, simulation, and experiments are performed. Both continuous and discontinuous modulation schemes are applied and it has been figured out that discontinuous modulation scheme can improve the dc-link voltage utilization in the common-frequency mode of operation. | Akbar, Fazal; Khan, Usman Ali; Khan, Ashraf Ali; Ahmed, Hafiz Furqan; Elkhateb, Ahmad; Cha, Honnyong; Park, Jung-Wook | Queens Univ Belfast, Sch Elect Elect Engn & Comp Sci, Belfast BT9 5AH, Antrim, North Ireland; Yonsei Univ, Dept Elect & Elect Engn, Seoul 03722, South Korea; Mem Univ Newfoundland, Dept Elect & Comp Engn, St John, NF, Canada; Natl Sun Yat Sen Univ, Dept Elect Engn, Kaohsiung 804, Taiwan; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Energy Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Khan, Ashraf/IXW-6751-2023; akbar, fazal/AAU-7197-2020; Park, Jungwook/KLF-6334-2024; Elkhateb, Ahmad/L-9528-2017 | 57194409251; 57206383294; 56341377400; 56735445800; 59297903900; 24450248400; 34873006100 | f.akbar@qub.ac.uk;usman_705@yonsei.ac.kr;ashrafak@mun.ca;hfahmed@mail.ee.nsysu.edu.tw;a.elkhateb@qub.ac.uk;chahonny@knu.ac.kr;jungpark@yonsei.ac.kr; | IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON POWER ELECTRONICS | IEEE T POWER ELECTR | 0885-8993 | 1941-0107 | 37 | 11 | SCIE | ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC | 2022 | 6.7 | 15.1 | 0.31 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 4 | Switches; Legged locomotion; Inverters; Inductors; Logic gates; Voltage; Topology; Dual buck; shoot-through current; three-switch leg (3SL) | SOURCE INVERTER; AC CONVERTER; 9-SWITCH; PWM; COMPENSATION | Dual buck; shoot-through current; three-switch leg (3SL) | Electric inductors; Electric inverters; Current limiting; Discontinuous modulation; Dual-buck; Inductor; Inverter; Leg converter; Legged locomotion; Modulation schemes; Shoot-through current; Three-switch leg; Pulse width modulation | English | 2022 | 2022-11 | 10.1109/tpel.2022.3183834 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 |
