| ○ | ○ | Article | Revised Geology of the Deokjeok and Soya Islands in the Central-western Korean Peninsula | The central-western Korean Peninsula contains records of an Early Mesozoic collisional event related to the final amalgamation of the East Asian continent. Here, we present a renewed geologic map of the Deokjeok and Soya islands in the central-western Korean Peninsula and its explanatory note. Our geologic map was based on a detailed investigation of the northeastern area of both islands, which is characterized by a complex fault and shear zone system that accommodated the crustal deformation related to the Mesozoic post-collisional orogenic collapse and the subsequent structural inversion. We suggest future directions of study aiming at addressing issues regardingthe deformational responses of crust to the Mesozoic tectonic transition and orogenic cycles. | Park, Jeong-Yeong; Park, Seung-Ik | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Geol, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 57216587299; 55832472000 | psi@knu.ac.kr; | ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL GEOLOGY | ECON ENVIRON GEOL | 1225-7281 | 2288-7962 | 53 | 5 | ESCI | GEOLOGY | 2020 | N/A | 0.3 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 4 | geologic map; Deokjeok and Soya islands; central-western Korean Peninsula; mesozoic orogenic cycle; crustal deformation | GYEONGGI MASSIF; SOUTH-KOREA; PLUTONIC ROCKS; TECTONIC EVOLUTION; VORTICITY ANALYSIS; HONGSEONG AREA; COLLISION BELT; ARC MAGMATISM; GNEISS DOMES; GEOCHRONOLOGY | central-western Korean Peninsula; crustal deformation; Deokjeok and Soya islands; geologic map; mesozoic orogenic cycle | English | 2020 | 2020-10 | 10.9719/eeg.2020.53.5.631 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||

| ○ | Article | Revisiting lipids in retinal diseases: A focused review on age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy | Dyslipidemia refers to an abnormal amount of lipid in the blood, and the total cholesterol level is defined as the sum of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and very-LDL cholesterol concentrations. In Korea, the westernization of lifestyle habits in recent years has caused an increase in the incidence of dyslipidemia, which is an important risk factor of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Several studies have been conducted on how dyslipidemia affects not only CVD, but also chorioretinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy. Recently, a pathological model of AMD was proposed under the assumption that AMD proceeds through a mechanism similar to that of atherosclerotic CVD. However, controversy remains regarding the relationship between chorioretinal diseases and lipid levels in the blood, and the effects of lipid-lowering agents. Herein, we summarize the role of lipids in chorioretinal diseases. In addition, the effects of lipid-lowering agents on the prevention and progression of chorioretinal diseases are presented. © 2020 The Korean Society of Lipid and Atherosclerosis. | Park, Su Jin; Park, Dong Ho | Department of Ophthalmology, School of Medicine, Kyungpook National University, Kyungpook National University Hospital, Daegu, South Korea; Department of Ophthalmology, School of Medicine, Kyungpook National University, Kyungpook National University Hospital, Daegu, South Korea | 57194422330; 36676632900 | DongHo_Park@knu.ac.kr; | Journal of Lipid and Atherosclerosis | 2287-2892 | 9 | 3 | 0.38 | 2025-06-25 | 6 | Age-related macular degeneration; Cholesterol; Diabetic retinopathy; Hypolipidemic agents; Lipids | English | Final | 2020 | 10.12997/jla.2020.9.3.406 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Right intrathoracic ectopic kidney and pulmonary sequestration associated with right sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia | Intrathoracic ectopic kidney is an uncommon congenital anomaly, accounting for approximately 5% of all ectopic kidneys. An intrathoracic ectopic kidney and pulmonary sequestration associated with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia is a very rare condition. This study describes a patient with a right intrathoracic ectopic kidney and pulmonary sequestration associated with right sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Contrast-enhanced chest computed tomography showed a right intrathoracic ectopic kidney and lung mass with herniation of the right lobe of the liver through the right diaphragmatic defect. The herniated intestine, the right lobe of the liver and the right intrathoracic ectopic kidney were relocated into the abdomen, followed by excision of the pulmonary mass and closure of the diaphragmatic defect with Permacol. | Park, Jinyoung | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Pediat Surg, Daegu, South Korea | 57190865032 | kpnugs@knu.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF PEDIATRIC SURGERY CASE REPORTS | J PEDIAT SURG CASE R | 2213-5766 | 61 | ESCI | PEDIATRICS | 2020 | N/A | 0.29 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 3 | Intrathoracic ectopic kidney; Diaphragmatic hernia; Pulmonary sequestration | PRENATAL-DIAGNOSIS; BOCHDALEK HERNIA; FETUS | Diaphragmatic hernia; Intrathoracic ectopic kidney; Pulmonary sequestration | adult; anastomosis; Apgar score; Article; case report; clinical article; colon; computer assisted tomography; congenital diaphragm hernia; diaphragm hernia; disease association; dysphagia; echocardiography; ectopic kidney; female; fetus echography; fetus growth; heart atrium septum defect; human; intestine obstruction; intestine resection; intrathoracic ectopic kidney; liver; lung sequestration; multigravida; newborn; preoperative period; priority journal; retroperitoneum; small intestine; thoracic cavity; thorax radiography | English | 2020 | 2020-10 | 10.1016/j.epsc.2020.101600 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Risk Factors and Clinical Outcomes of Non-Curative Resection in Patients with Early Gastric Cancer Treated with Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection: A Retrospective Multicenter Study in Korea | Background/Aims: The purpose of this study was to investigate the risk factors and long-term clinical outcomes of non-curative resection (NCR) in a large-scale patient population. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 3,094 patients who underwent endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) of early gastric cancer from March 2005 to March 2018 at 13 institutions in Korea. We analyzed the risk factors for NCR and the survival between patients with curative resection and those with NCR with no additional treatment. Results: The NCR rate was 21.4% (661/3,094). In multivariate regression analysis, the risk factors affecting NCR with ESD were old age, undifferentiated tumor, tumor location in the upper body, tumor size =2 cm, and presence of an ulcer. In Cox proportional hazard regression analysis, tumor size =2 cm, submucosal invasion, positive horizontal margin, and lymphovascular invasion were risk factors for local recurrence. In Kaplan-Meier analysis, there was no statistically significant difference in the overall survival between the two groups (log-rank p=0.788). However, disease-specific survival was significantly lower in the NCR group (log-rank p=0.038). Conclusions: Clinicians should be aware of the risk factors for NCR and local recurrence after ESD for early gastric cancer, and should consider providing additional treatment after NCR. | Lee, Si Hyung; Kim, Min Cheol; Jeon, Seong Woo; Lee, Kang Nyeong; Park, Jong Jae; Hong, Su Jin | Yeungnam Univ, Dept Internal Med, Coll Med, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Internal Med, Daegu, South Korea; Hanyang Univ, Coll Med, Dept Internal Med, Seoul, South Korea; Korea Univ, Dept Internal Med, Coll Med, Seoul, South Korea; Soonchunhyang Univ, Dept Internal Med, Coll Med, Bucheon, South Korea | Lee, Si/ABH-1408-2020; Jeon, Seongwoo/AAU-4618-2020; Lee, Yoojin/AAB-9799-2022 | 35771122400; 57205715533; 9733636500; 25951399900; 34668368400; 35285527200 | swjeon@knu.ac.kr; | CLINICAL ENDOSCOPY | CLIN ENDOSC | 2234-2400 | 2234-2443 | 53 | 2 | ESCI | GASTROENTEROLOGY & HEPATOLOGY | 2020 | N/A | 1.66 | 2025-06-25 | 26 | 27 | Early gastric cancer; Endoscopic submucosal dissection; Follow-up; Incomplete resection | LONG-TERM OUTCOMES; RADICAL SURGERY; SURVIVAL; MARGINS | Early gastric cancer; Endoscopic submucosal dissection; Follow-up; Incomplete resection | adult; aged; Article; cancer patient; cancer recurrence; cancer survival; clinical outcome; disease specific survival; early cancer; endoscopic submucosal dissection; female; human; human tissue; Korea; lymph vessel metastasis; major clinical study; male; multicenter study (topic); overall survival; retrospective study; risk factor; stomach cancer; stomach ulcer; survival rate; survival time; tumor invasion; tumor localization; tumor volume | English | 2020 | 2020-03 | 10.5946/ce.2019.123 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | Article | Robust non-contacting human respiration signal detecting system by applying a new algorithm to minimize noise | In this paper, we conducted an experiment regarding a non-contacting respiration detection system by applying a new algorithm to minimize the noise effect. A Doppler radar in the 5.8GHz band with a series algorithm which includes a Savitzky-Golay Filter and a signal integration process to minimize the noise effect was used for the measurement of the human respiration signal at 1.2m distance. This signal processing algorithm, including the removal of DC signals from direct down-conversion and noise suppression, is faster than the previously reported system in the literature, and allows for a robust determination of the presence of the respiratory signals for a variety of situations. The results show the final signal magnitude ratio is at least 3.1 times bigger when the human being is present. compared to when the human being is absent. We have compared signals before and after the proposed signal processing algorithm and verified that the proposed system can be more robust to detect the human respiration signal even in a very noisy environment. We believe the proposed system can be very reliably applied to a detection of human being in many casualty incidents. | ○ | ○ | Proceedings Paper | Robust On-Chip Processing Unit with Parallelized ECC Block for Lightweight Instruction Execution | A tiny processing unit (TPU) activated with insufficient power always has a problem with data protection. To solve this problem, many TPUs and embedded systems use error-correcting code (ECC), especially Hamming code. However, adding an ECC decoding block to the TPU can cause a bottleneck. Most TPUs that follow a Von Neumann structure spend large amounts of time in the instruction fetch stage. The instruction fetch time increases due to ECC decoding intensifying the bottleneck. In this paper, we propose an architecture for a parallelized ECC decoding block. Although it increases memory usage, the parallelized ECC decoding block speeds up the entire TPU by more quickly processing the ECC decoding. This architecture was synthesized and validated with Design Compiler and showed successful performance improvements using proposed architecture. | Kang, Myeongjin; Park, Daejin | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect Engn, Daegu, South Korea | 57216440453; 55463943600 | boltanut@knu.ac.kr; | 2020 IEEE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CONSUMER ELECTRONICS - TAIWAN (ICCE-TAIWAN) | 2381-5779 | 0.41 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 2 | Decoding; Embedded systems; Privacy by design; Design compiler; Hamming code; Instruction fetch; Insufficient power; Large amounts; Memory usage; Processing units; Proposed architectures; Memory architecture | English | 2020 | 2020 | 10.1109/icce-taiwan49838.2020.9258047 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||||||||||||

| ○ | Article | Room Temperature Hydrogen Gas Sensor using Pd/Carbon Nanotubes Buckypaper | In this paper, we report the sensing performance of H2 gas sensors composed of Pd/carbon nanotube (CNT) buckypaper at room temperature. The CNT buckypaper was made using a simple filtration process and subsequently deposited with Pd as the sensing material. The sensitivity of the sensor increased with respect to the gas concentration. To investigate the effect of Pd thickness, Pd layers of different thickness were deposited on the buckypaper, and the response of the sensor was evaluated. The proposed sensor exhibits excellent sensing properties with optimized Pd thickness at room temperature (25oC). Pd nanoparticles significantly impact the sensitivity and selectivity of the sensor because of the spillover effect. In addition, the sensor is highly suitable for bendable and wearable devices owing to its structural flexibility. © 2020, Korean Sensors Society. | ○ | Article | Room-Temperature Hydrogen-Gas Sensor Based on Carbon Nanotube Yarn | The proposed study describes the development of a carbon nanotube (CNT)-based gas sensor capable of detecting the presence of hydrogen (H-2) gas at room temperature. CNT yarn used in the proposed sensor was fabricated from synthesized CNT arrays. Subsequently, the yarn was treated by means of a simple one-step procedure, called acid treatment, to facilitate removal of impurities from the yarn surface and forming functional species. To verify the proposed sensor's effectiveness with regard to detection of H-2 gas at room temperature, acid-treated CNT and pure yarns were fabricated and tested under identical conditions. Corresponding results demonstrate that compared to the untreated CNT yarn, the acid-treated CNT yarn exhibits higher sensitivity to the presence of H-2 gas at room temperature. Additionally, the acid-treated CNT yarn was observed to demonstrate excellent selectivity pertaining to H-2 gas. | Han, Maeum; Kim, Jae Keon; Lee, Junyeop; An, Hee Kyung; Yun, Jong Pil; Kang, Shin-Won; Jung, Daewoong | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll IT Engn, Sch Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Korea Inst Ind Technol KITECH, AI Syst Engn Grp, Daegu 42994, South Korea; Korea Inst Ind Technol KITECH, Mechatron Technol Convergence R&D Grp, Daegu 42994, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Sensor & Display Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | JOURNAL OF NANOSCIENCE AND NANOTECHNOLOGY | 1533-4880 | 1533-4899 | 20 | 7 | 12 | Hydrogen Gas; Leakage; Carbon Nanotubes; Energy | English | 2020 | 2020-07 | 10.1166/jnn.2020.17607 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||||||||||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Rumex acetosa modulates platelet function and inhibits thrombus formation in rats | Background: The Rumex acetosa has been used in medicinal treatment, food technology and phytotherapeutics in Eastern Asia and many other countries. However, its effect on cardiovascular system and antiplatelet activity remained to be known. In this study, we examined the antiplatelet activity of R. acetosa in detailed manner to understand underlying mechanism. Methods: To study this, whole blood was obtained from male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats and aggregation of washed platelets measured using light transmission aggregometry. Intracellular calcium ion concentration ([Ca2+](i)) was measured using Fura-2/AM while ATP release evaluated by luminometer. Activation of integrin alpha(IIb)beta(3) analyzed by flow cytometry and clot retraction. Furthermore, we studied the signaling pathways mediated by R. acetosa extract by western blot analysis. Results: R. acetosa extract markedly inhibited collagen-induced platelet aggregation and ATP release in a dose-dependent manner. It also suppressed [Ca2+](i) mobilization, integrin alpha(IIb)beta(3) activation and clot retraction. The extract significantly attenuated phosphorylation of the MAPK pathway (i.e., ERK1/2, JNK), MKK4, PI3K/Akt, and Src family kinase. Conclusion: Taken together, this data suggests that R. acetosa extract exhibits anti-platelet activity via modulating MAPK, PI3K/Akt pathways, and integrin alpha(IIb)beta(3)-mediated inside-out and outside-in signaling, and it may protect against the development of platelet-related cardiovascular diseases. | Jeong, Dahye; Irfan, Muhammad; Lee, Dong-Ha; Hong, Seung-Bok; Oh, Jae-Wook; Rhee, Man Hee | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Vet Med, Lab Vet Physiol & Cell Signaling, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Namseoul Univ, Dept Biomed Lab Sci, Cheonan 31020, South Korea; Namseoul Univ, Mol Diagnost Res Inst, Cheonan 31020, South Korea; Chungbuk Hlth & Sci Univ, Dept Clin Laboratoy Sci, Cheongju, Chungbuk, South Korea; Konkuk Univ, Dept Anim Biotechnol, Seoul 05029, South Korea | Irfan, Muhammad/AAY-1961-2021; Rhee, Man/O-5705-2016; Oh, Jae-Wook/D-3597-2011 | 56799849300; 35069404400; 57208891222; 9237099500; 34875481900; 57211035357 | rheemh@knu.ac.kr; | BMC COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE AND THERAPIES | BMC COMPLEMENT MED | 2662-7671 | 20 | 1 | SCIE | INTEGRATIVE & COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE | 2020 | N/A | 0.7 | 2025-06-25 | 7 | 8 | Antiplatelet agent; Integrin alpha(IIb)beta(3); MAPK; Platelets; Rumex acetosa; Thrombosis | CARDIOVASCULAR-DISEASE; GINSENG; GINSENOSIDES; MECHANISMS; EXTRACTS; RECEPTOR | Antiplatelet agent; Integrin αIIbβ3; MAPK; Platelets; Rumex acetosa; Thrombosis | Animals; Male; MAP Kinase Signaling System; Plant Extracts; Platelet Aggregation Inhibitors; Rats; Rats, Sprague-Dawley; Rumex; Thrombosis; antithrombocytic agent; plant extract; animal; chemistry; male; MAPK signaling; rat; Rumex; Sprague Dawley rat; thrombosis | English | 2020 | 2020-03-23 | 10.1186/s12906-020-02889-5 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | Article | Run-length distribution for shewhart control chart with runs rules using finite markov chain imbedding | Shewhart developed a control chart to statistically control the production process in 1924. The classic Shewhart chart is effective for large shifts and can be easily implemented in the real production process. However, it is not effective for detecting small shifts. To compensate for this, a control chart with the addition of runs rules was proposed by Western Electric Company (1956). And Champ and Woodall (1987) introduced how to calculate the average run-length in runs rules using a method called Markov chain. We have combined runs rules to compensate for the shortcomings of the traditional control chart, and suggest the finite Markov chain imbedding method to get the run-length distribution. The Shewhart control chart with supplementary runs rules can sensitively detect small shifts in means and variances in the production process, and calculate run-length probability distribution accurately and quickly. © 2020 Jangjeon Mathematical Society. | ○ | Conference paper | Runtime Abstraction-Level Conversion of Discrete-Event Wafer-fabrication Models for Simulation Acceleration | Speeding up the simulation of discrete-event wafer fab models is essential because optimizing the scheduling and dispatching policies under various circumstances requires repeated evaluation of the decision candidates during parameter-space exploration. In this paper, we present a runtime abstraction-level conversion approach for discrete-event wafer-fabrication (wafer-fab) models to gain simulation speedup. During the simulation, if a machine group of the wafer fab models reaches a steady state, then the proposed approach attempts to substitute this group model with a mean-delay model (MDM) as a high abstraction level model. The MDM abstracts the detailed operations of the group's sub-component models into an average delay based on the queueing modeling, which can guarantee acceptable accuracy under steady state. The proposed abstraction-level converter (ALC) observes the queueing parameters of low-level groups to identify the convergence of each group's work-in-progress (WIP) level through a statistical test. When a group's WIP level is converged, the output-to-input couplings between the models are revised to change a wafer-lot process flow from the low-level group to a mean-delay model. When the ALC detects a divergence caused by a re-entrant flow or a machine-down, the high-level model is switched back to its corresponding low-level group model. The ALC then generates dummy wafer-lot events to synchronize the busyness of high-level steady state. The proposed method was applied to case studies of wafer-fab systems and achieves simulation speedup from 6.1 to 11.8 times with corresponding 2.5 to 5.9% degradation inaccuracy. © 2020 Association for Computing Machinery. | Seok, Moon G. | ○ | Article | Scientific approach to confirm the excellence of seokgayeoraehaengjeoksong as Korean cultural heritage | In this study, in order to scientifically approach to confirm the excellence of Seokgayeoraehaengjeoksong as Korean Cultural Heritage, we analyzed the fibers and ink characteristics of six types of old documents including the Seokgayeoraehaengjeoksong, and compared to traditional Hanji. As a result of observing the fiber length and the shape of the fibers in the old document through an optical microscope, it was confirmed that all documents were made of fibers in paper mulberry. It was speculated that the degree of deterioration of the old document was affected by the preservation status regardless of the era of production through the oxidation index and hydrogen-bond intensity calculated from the IR spectrum data. In addition, as a result of conducting principal component analysis (PCA) in order to infer the production period of ancient documents, it was confirmed that classification of old documents according to the period was possible. As a result of measuring the particle size of the ink (Muk) contained in the Seokgayeoraehaengjeoksong and two types of old documents, the particle size was less than 80 nm on average, indicating the characteristics of lamp black soot ink (Yooyeon Muk). It is widely known that lamp black soot ink (Yooyeon Muk) is used in metal type printing, but more detailed research on whether the Seokgayeoraehaengjeoksong was produced through metal type printing seemed to be necessary. © 2020 Korean Technical Assoc. of the Pulp and Paper Industry.
