| ○ | ○ | Article | Regional nodal irradiation in pT1-2N1 breast cancer patients treated with breast-conserving surgery and whole breast irradiation | Purpose: To evaluate the necessity of regional nodal irradiation (RNI) for pT1-2N1 breast cancer patients treated with breast-conserving surgery and radiotherapy, we compared clinical outcomes of patients treated with and without RNI. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data of 214 pT1-2N1 breast cancer patients treated with breast-conserving surgery and whole breast irradiation from 2007-2016. There were 142 (66.4%), 51 (23.85%), and 21 (9.8%) patients with one, two, and three positive lymph nodes, respectively. Thirty-six patients (16.8%) underwent RNI. Adjuvant chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, and anti-HER2 therapy were given to 91.6%, 79.0%, and 15.0% patients, respectively. The most common chemotherapy regimen was anthracycline + cyclophosphamide, followed by taxane (76.5%). The median follow-up was 64 months (range, 6 to 147 months). Patients were propensity matched 1:2 into RNI and no-RNI groups. Results: Two patients experienced locoregional recurrences simultaneously with distant metastases, ten patients developed distant metastases, and one patient died. Before matching, the 5-year actuarial locoregional control (LRC), distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), and overall survival (OS) rates in the RNI and no-RNI groups were 100.0% and 99.4% (p = 0.629), 94.1% and 96.0% (p = 0.676), and 100.0% and 99.4% (p = 0.658), respectively. After matching, the 5-year LRC, DMFS, and OS were 98.3% and 100.0% (p = 0.455), 96.6% and 93.9% (p = 0.557), and 100.0% and 100.0% (p > 0.999) in the RNI and no-RNI groups, respectively. No clinicopathologic or treatment-related factors were significantly associated with LRC, DMFS, or OS. Conclusion: Adding RNI did not show superior LRC, DMFS, or OS in pT1-2N1 breast cancer patients. | Park, Shin-Hyung; Kim, Jae-Chul | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Radiat Oncol, 130 Dongduk Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea | Park, Shinhyung/LNQ-6428-2024 | 57203275843; 55719981700 | jckim@knu.ac.kr; | RADIATION ONCOLOGY JOURNAL | RADIAT ONCOL J | 2234-3156 | 38 | 1 | ESCI | ONCOLOGY | 2020 | N/A | 0.31 | 2025-06-25 | 5 | 5 | Radiotherapy; Breast Cancer; Breast-Conserving Surgery; Lymphatic Radiotherapy | RANDOMIZED CLINICAL-TRIAL; RADIATION-THERAPY; LOW-RISK; RECURRENCE; LUMPECTOMY; NODES; RECOMMENDATIONS; RADIOTHERAPY; CONSENSUS; BENEFIT | Breast Cancer; Breast-Conserving Surgery; Lymphatic Radiotherapy; Radiotherapy | anthracycline; cyclophosphamide; epidermal growth factor receptor 2; epidermal growth factor receptor kinase inhibitor; estrogen receptor; Ki 67 antigen; progesterone receptor; taxane derivative; adjuvant radiotherapy; adjuvant therapy; adult; aged; Article; axillary lymph node; breast cancer; breast radiotherapy; cancer adjuvant therapy; cancer hormone therapy; cancer staging; clinical outcome; clinical target volume; consolidation chemotherapy; controlled study; distant metastasis; distant metastasis free survival; evaluation and follow up; female; human; human tissue; internal mammary artery; local recurrence free survival; luminal B breast cancer; lung density; lymph node dissection; lymph node irradiation; lymph vessel metastasis; lymphedema; major clinical study; middle aged; multiple cycle treatment; multivariate analysis; overall survival; partial mastectomy; pneumonia; propensity score; radiation dose; radiation pneumonia; regional nodal irradiation; retrospective study; tumor volume; univariate analysis | English | 2020 | 2020-03 | 10.3857/roj.2019.00647 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | Conference paper | Regional Weighted Generative Adversarial Network for LDR to HDR Image Conversion | For the image conversion from low dynamic range images to high dynamic range images, we considered the possibility of using the Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) as one of the deep neural network methods. Deep learning requires a lot of data before building a module, but once creation is done, it is convenient to use it. In this paper, we proposed a weighting map for a local luminance based learning to reconstruct locally tone-mapped images. © 2020 IEEE. | Jung, Sung-Woon; Son, Dong-Min; Kwon, Hyuk-Ju; Lee, Sung-Hak | School of Electronics Engineering, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea; School of Electronics Engineering, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea; School of Electronics Engineering, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea; School of Electronics Engineering, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea | 57216623303; 57216612214; 55169908300; 7601395661 | 2020 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Information and Communication, ICAIIC 2020 | 0.45 | 2025-06-25 | 5 | Cycle GAN; HDR; Image Conversion; Weighted loss function | Deep neural networks; A-weighting; Adversarial networks; HDR image; High dynamic range images; Image conversion; Low dynamic range images; Mapped image; Neural network method; Deep learning | English | Final | 2020 | 10.1109/icaiic48513.2020.9064984 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||||||||||||||||

| ○ | Book chapter | Regulation of flood stress in plants | The human population is increasing in geometric progression during the last decade, which resulted global climate change due to the increase in the carbon-dioxide consumption. Among the various environmental stresses caused by climate change, there is a prediction of more frequent flooding due to repetitive heavy rainfall. Flooding stress is considered a major factor of grain yield loss. There is a significant variation in plants vulnerability and tolerance mechanism to flooding stress. Therefore various studies relating to flooding tolerance mechanism have been conducted. In order to produce flood-resistant high-yielding crop, it is necessary to not only study the various factors of flooding stress but also to understand how plants sense and respond to that flooding stress-causing factors. Therefore the current chapter aims to introduce various flooding-tolerance mechanisms in different crops, which may contribute to the improvement of tolerant crops. © 2020 Elsevier Inc. | ○ | Article | Reliability Test of Pd Nanogap-Based Hydrogen Sensors | Pd nanogap hydrogen sensors were developed using an elastomeric substrate and operated through an on-off mechanism. A 10 nm thick Pd thin film was formed on a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate, and 50% of the physical strain was applied in the longitudinal direction to fabricated uniform nanogaps. The initial concentration of the hydrogen gas for the PDMS/Pd films was controlled, and subsequently, the on-off switching response was measured. We found that the average nanogap was less than 50 nm, and the Pd nanogap hydrogen sensors operated over a wide range of temperatures. In particular, the sensors work properly even at a very low temperature of -40°C with a fast response time of 2 s. In addition, we have investigated the relative humidity and annealing effects. © 2020, Korean Sensors Society. | ○ | ○ | Article | Removal of a Large, Intractable Common Bile Duct Stone by Direct Peroral Cholangioscopy Using Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Polypectomy Snare | ERCP is the standard treatment for common bile duct stones. On the other hand, 10-15% of cases involve intractable common bile duct stones, which cannot be treated by conventional biliary sphincterotomy with a stone retrieval method. Large bile duct stones are typically managed by mechanical lithotripsy and endoscopic papillary large balloon dilatation. Peroral cholangioscopy techniques can be applied if this technique fails. In the present case, a 67-year-old woman had a large common bile duct stone that could not be retracted using the conventional ERCP stone extraction method. The common bile duct stone was eventually removed by direct peroral upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and a polypectomy snare. | Heo, Jun; Jung, Min Kyu | Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Dept Internal Med, 130 Dongdeok Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Internal Med, Sch Med, Daegu, South Korea | 36448170600; 56783168100 | minky1973@knu.ac.kr; | KOREAN JOURNAL OF GASTROENTEROLOGY | 1598-9992 | 2233-6869 | 76 | 4 | 0.08 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 1 | Choledocholithiasis; Cholangiopancreatography; endoscopic retrograde; Endoscopy; gastrointestinal; therapeutic use; Lithotripsy | Cholangiopancreatography; Choledocholithiasis; endoscopic retrograde; Endoscopy; gastrointestinal; Lithotripsy; therapeutic use | Aged; Cholangiopancreatography, Endoscopic Retrograde; Choledocholithiasis; Common Bile Duct; Endoscopy, Digestive System; Female; Gallstones; Humans; Tomography, X-Ray Computed; aged; case report; common bile duct; common bile duct stone; diagnostic imaging; digestive tract endoscopy; endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography; female; gallstone; human; x-ray computed tomography | English | 2020 | 2020-10 | 10.4166/kjg.2020.76.4.215 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||
| ○ | Book chapter | Removal of contaminants of emerging concern by FO, RO, and UF membranes in water and wastewater | The presence of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs), such as endocrine-disrupting compounds, pharmaceuticals, personal care products, and several metals, is of concern because they are not completely removed during conventional water and wastewater (WW) treatment processes, including coagulation/flocculation/sedimentation/filtration and biologically activated sludge processes. Forward osmosis (FO), reverse osmosis (RO), and ultrafiltration (UF) membranes are well-known as advanced treatment processes for the removal of complex inorganic and organic contaminants in water and WW. This review provides a summary of recent research on the removal of CECs by FO, RO, and UF membrane treatment and also provides information valuable for applications of FO, RO, and UF membrane treatment in water and WW treatment. The primary objective of this chapter is to combine current knowledge of membrane treatment of inorganic and organic CECs in water and WW and to identify knowledge gaps to highlight future research areas. In particular, this review aims to (i) briefly evaluate the removal of both inorganic and organic CECs by various treatment techniques in water and WW, (ii) address key factors (water quality conditions and membrane operation conditions) influencing the removal of CECs during membrane filtration, and (iii) discuss CECs removal with regard to their properties. Additionally, areas of future research in membrane treatment for the removal of CECs from water are suggested. © 2020 Elsevier Inc. | ○ | Proceedings Paper | Respiratory Motion Prediction with Random Vector Functional Link (RVFL) Based Neural Networks | Respiratory motion exhibits non-linear and non-stationary behavior in nature and this has been a great hindrance to the accurate prediction of tumor in motion adaptive radiotherapy. Accurate prediction of respiratory motion and subsequent tracking of tumor has been a challenge due to the irregularities and intra-trace variabilities. In order to overcome this issue, prediction models can be trained by using neural networks. However due to the burden of large training data, computational efficacy of existing neural networks can be affected. Moreover, training of neural networks using conventional methods like back-propagation (BP) may result in local minima and it may slow down the learning rate and convergence respectively. As a solution, in this paper, we employed random vector function link (RVFL) based neural networks to train the model in a very efficient way to achieve high accuracy in respiratory motion prediction. In RVFL, the direct link from input features to output layer acts as regularization to prevent the network from overfitting. The proposed method is tested with real respiratory motion traces acquired from 31 patients. Results show that RVFL with the use of direct link performs quite better than without direct link. | Rasheed, Asad; Adebisi, A. | ○ | Conference paper | RESTful Web of Things for Ubiquitous Smart Home Energy Management | Emergence of smart things has matured the Internet of Thing (IoT) notion. Extensive attention drawn towards IoT has inspired the concept of Smart homes. However, actual implementation of smart home architecture is highly challenged by the heterogeneity of smart devices, platform incompatibilities, and energy management demands. Web of Things (WoT) is a common solution platform, which exposes these heterogeneous services in an effective and a transparent manner. Hence, in this paper, we propose a WoT inspired smart home that occupies representational state transfer (REST) architecture for data collection and sharing. The proposed smart home architecture was tested through computer simulation to evaluate its performance efficiency with respect to energy efficiency of domestic appliances, device discovery performance, response time, and failed transmissions. © 2020 IEEE. | Silva, Bhagya Nathali; Khan, Murad; Lee, Kyuchang; Yoon, Yongtak; Muhammad, Diyan; Han, Jihun; Han, Kijun | Kyungpook National University, School of Computer Science and Engineering, Daegu, South Korea; Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology, Department of Computer Science, Peshawar, Pakistan; Kyungpook National University, School of Computer Science and Engineering, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook National University, School of Computer Science and Engineering, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook National University, School of Computer Science and Engineering, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook National University, School of Computer Science and Engineering, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook National University, School of Computer Science and Engineering, Daegu, South Korea | 57192304387; 56151971600; 57213678506; 56996617600; 26028317800; 8644262600; 7402963670 | 2020 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications, ICNC 2020 | 2.16 | 2025-06-25 | 10 | Energy management; Sensor networks; Smart home; Web of things | Automation; Data Sharing; Domestic appliances; Energy efficiency; Energy management; Green computing; Intelligent buildings; Data collection; Device discovery; Heterogeneous services; Internet of thing (IOT); Performance efficiency; Representational state transfer; Smart devices; Smart homes; Internet of things | English | Final | 2020 | 10.1109/icnc47757.2020.9049774 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||||||||||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Retained Foreign Body Which Should be Suspected as a Cause of Retractable Chronic Hand Inflammation and Diagnostic Capacity of Ultrasonography | Background: Foreign bodies in the hand are common but easily and often missed in the initial evaluation of injury. Diagnosing retained foreign bodies is difficult due to radiolucent foreign bodies. Purpose of this study is to emphasize the need of consideration of foreign bodies in patients with chronic synovitis in hand. Methods: Twenty-five patients who had retained foreign body in soft tissue of hand with chronic inflammation symptoms were included. Ultrasonography was conducted in all of the patients. Patient age, sex, localization of foreign body, duration of symptom, history of injury, follow up period, complication, and biopsy results were recorded and reviewed. Also, patients' demographics and clinical results were retrospectively reviewed. Results: Nine of the 25 patients diagnosed with a foreign body in the hand did not remember the initial presentation of injury. The average symptom duration (from injury to hospitalization) was 10.5 months (range 1-96 months). The middle finger and the proximal interphalangeal joint were the most common site of a retained foreign body (10 patients). All patients were diagnosed via ultrasonography and underwent surgery. Biopsy results showed mainly chronic inflammation, fibrosis, granuloma, and foreign bodies. Conclusions: Patient with symptoms of cellulitis, osteomyelitis, and palpable mass in hand for over a month without a diagnosis should be suspected of retained FBs. | Suh, Jeong Duk; Jung, Young Soo; Lee, Hyun-Joo; Yoon, Jong-Pil; Lee, Suk-Joong; Kim, Poong-Taek | Daegu Fatima Hosp, Dept Orthopaed Surg, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Dept Orthopaed Surg, 130 Donguk Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Orthopaed Surg, Daegu, South Korea; Keimyung Univ, Dongsan Med Ctr, Dept Orthoped Surg, Sch Med, Daegu, South Korea; Daegu Pk Hosp, Daegu, South Korea | 57218265155; 57193649519; 58838750100; 36098548400; 57078230800; 7402334714 | hjleeleehj@gmail.com; | JOURNAL OF HAND SURGERY-ASIAN-PACIFIC VOLUME | J HAND SURG-ASIAN-PA | 2424-8355 | 2424-8363 | 25 | 4 | ESCI | SURGERY | 2020 | N/A | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 4 | Hand; Chronic inflammation; Foreign body; Ultrasonography | BODIES; MANAGEMENT | Chronic inflammation; Foreign body; Hand; Ultrasonography | Adolescent; Adult; Cellulitis; Chronic Disease; Female; Foreign Bodies; Hand; Humans; Male; Middle Aged; Osteomyelitis; Retrospective Studies; Synovitis; Ultrasonography; Young Adult; adolescent; adult; cellulitis; chronic disease; diagnostic imaging; echography; female; foreign body; hand; human; male; middle aged; osteomyelitis; retrospective study; synovitis; young adult | English | 2020 | 2020-12 | 10.1142/s2424835520500459 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Retroperitoneal Erdheim-Chester disease without skeletal bone involvement mimicking uterine sarcoma with multiple organ involvement | Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a rare type of non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis and is characterized by the diffuse histiocytic infiltration of multiple organs. Retroperitoneal ECD, especially with uterine involvement, is extremely rare. We report about a 73-year-old woman who presented with vaginal spotting for a month and experienced abdominal pain along with pus-like urine. Computed tomography revealed an irregular mass-like lesion in the uterus, possibly a uterine sarcoma, invading the ureter, rectosigmoid, and bladder. A tissue biopsy of the retroperitoneal mass revealed typical morphological and immunohistochemical features of ECD. However, clinical features, especially long bone involvement, did not coincide with ECD, and BRAF V600E gene mutation was not detected. We made a diagnosis of atypical retroperitoneal ECD mimicking uterine sarcoma with multiple organ involvement. | Kim, Hae Min; Chong, Gun Oh; Kim, Min Ju; Park, Ji Young; Lee, Yoon Hee | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Obstet & Gynecol, Sch Med, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Chilgok Hosp, Dept Obstet & Gynecol, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Pathol, Daegu, South Korea | 57222634904; 23099068000; 58638895300; 57210160197; 37088851700 | gochong@knu.ac.kr; | OBSTETRICS & GYNECOLOGY SCIENCE | 2287-8572 | 2287-8580 | 63 | 4 | 0.36 | 2025-06-25 | 3 | 4 | Erdheim-Chester disease; Uterus; Ureter | Erdheim-Chester disease; Ureter; Uterus | English | 2020 | 2020-07 | 10.5468/ogs.19232 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Reversible Hypoxia-Induced Thrombocytopenia in an Infant of Pulmonary Atresia with Ventricular Septal Defect | The presence of thrombocytopenia in cyanotic congenital heart disease (CCHD) is an uncommon, but well-known condition. We present a patient with pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect (PA with VSD) requiring a multi-stage operation. We were unsure whether the patient's hypoxia was the cause of his thrombocytopenia, as the hypoxia was relatively mild. His thrombocytopenia improved following reoxygenation after the Rastelli operation (total correction of PA with VSD). From these findings, we suggest that if a patient with CCHD presents with thrombocytopenia without an obvious cause, hypoxia-induced thrombocytopenia should be considered, regardless of the degree of hypoxia, platelet count, or hematocrit percentage. | Jung, Hanna; Lee, Youngok | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Dept Thorac & Cardiovasc Surg, Sch Med, 130 Dongdeok Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea | Jung, Hanna/Y-4165-2019 | 56467570700; 36461117600 | yolee1210@knu.ac.kr; | INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL CASE REPORTS JOURNAL | INT MED CASE REP J | 1179-142X | 13 | ESCI | MEDICINE, GENERAL & INTERNAL | 2020 | N/A | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 0 | cardiac surgery; congenital heart defect; cyanosis; pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect; thrombocytopenia | HEART-DISEASE | Cardiac surgery; Congenital heart defect; Cyanosis; Pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect; Thrombocytopenia | immunoglobulin; prostaglandin; Article; artificial ventilation; case report; clinical article; congenital heart disease; cyanosis; differential diagnosis; disease severity; echocardiography; extubation; heart surgery; heart ventricle septum defect; hematocrit; human; hypoxia; idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura; lung circulation; male; neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia; newborn; oxygen saturation; patent ductus arteriosus; platelet count; postoperative period; preoperative care; pulmonary shunt; pulmonary valve atresia; reoxygenation; thrombocyte transfusion; thrombocytopenia; vascular patency | English | 2020 | 2020 | 10.2147/imcrj.s273077 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | Article | Review of literature for exploration of waste plant oils for production of biodiesel | Global energy demand is increasing due to exponential increase in world population and rapid industrialization. The world energy demand is increasing due to expanding population and better living standards. Energy supply reliability and economy will enhance with the availability and consumption of renewable energy sources. Biodiesel is an attractive alternative to conventional petroleum-based diesel fuel because of its renewable and environment friendly nature. This article extensively reviews the importance of different waste plant oils feedstocks, biodiesel manufacturing processes and physical and chemical characteristics of waste plant oils. Feedstock and catalyst selection are key steps in biodiesel production because these determines two-third of the total biodiesel production cost. In this review, it has been concluded that waste plant oils are considered as promising alternative feedstocks for biodiesel production. The biodiesel production from waste plant oils is an effective way to minimize all the problems because the use of pure plant oils as biofuel is inappropriate due to their low volatility and high viscosity. © International Scientific Organization. | ul Haq, Muhammad Qamar; Nadeem, Farwa; Nayab, Ayesha Mahnoor; Kazerooni, Elham Ahmed | Department of Chemistry, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, 38040, Pakistan; Department of Chemistry, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, 38040, Pakistan; Department of Chemistry, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, 38040, Pakistan; School of Applied Biosciences, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, 41566, South Korea | 58116828500; 57211788284; 58019996600; 57191375873 | farwa668@gmail.com; | International Journal of Chemical and Biochemical Sciences | 2226-9614 | 17 | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | Biodiesel; catalyst; feedstock; viscosity; volatility; waste plant oils | English | Final | 2020 | 바로가기 |
