| ○ | Book chapter | Genotyping of Porphyromonas gingivalis in Relationship to Virulence | Porphyromonas gingivalis, a significant periodontal pathogen, is known to possess genetic variations in relation to its virulence. Furthermore, fimbriae encoded by the fimA gene are involved in bacterial adherence to and invasion of host cells, and a known virulence factor of the bacterium. The fimA gene is classified into six variants (types I–V and Ib) and has been shown to be related to microbial virulence. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay results are helpful to differentiate the genotypes, with fimA type-specific primer sets used for that have been developed by several researchers. Although room for improvement remains, fimA genotyping is expected to become a useful technique for periodontal examinations and diagnosis. In this chapter, currently available PCR methods to classify fimA genotypic variations of P. gingivalis are described. © 2021, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature. | Amano, Atsuo; Choi, Youn-Hee; Takeuchi, Hiroki | Department of Preventive Dentistry, Graduate School of Dentistry, Osaka University, Osaka, Suita, Japan; Department of Preventive Dentistry, School of Dentistry, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea; Department of Preventive Dentistry, Graduate School of Dentistry, Osaka University, Osaka, Suita, Japan | 7101649822; 7404777239; 55007392300 | amanoa@dent.osaka-u.ac.jp; | Methods in Molecular Biology | 1064-3745 | 2210 | 0.24 | 2025-07-30 | 1 | fimA; Fimbriae; Genotyping; PCR; Periodontal bacteria; Periodontitis; Polymerase chain reaction; Porphyromonas gingivalis | Fimbriae Proteins; Fimbriae, Bacterial; Genotype; Humans; Periodontitis; Polymerase Chain Reaction; Porphyromonas gingivalis; Virulence; DNA fragment; genomic DNA; RNA 16S; fimbria protein; bacterial gene; bacterial virulence; controlled study; fima gene; genetic variability; genotype; nested polymerase chain reaction; nonhuman; periodontitis; Porphyromonas gingivalis; fimbria; genetics; genotype; human; microbiology; pathogenicity; periodontitis; polymerase chain reaction; Porphyromonas gingivalis; procedures; virulence | English | Final | 2021 | 10.1007/978-1-0716-0939-2_6 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||||||||

For every n >= 2, we devote ourselves to the description of the sets of extreme and exposed points of the closed unit balls of L(R-n(parallel to.parallel to)m) and L-s(R-n(parallel to.parallel to)m), where L(R-n(parallel to.parallel to)m) is the space of n-linear forms on R-parallel to.parallel to(m), and L-s(R-n(parallel to.parallel to)m) is the subspace of L(R-n(parallel to.parallel to)m) consisting of symmetric n-linear forms. Let F = L(R-n(parallel to.parallel to)m) or L-s(R-n(parallel to.parallel to)m). First we classify the extreme and exposed points of the closed unit ball of F. We obtain vertical bar ext B-L(nR parallel to.parallel to m()) vertical bar = 2((mn)) and vertical bar ext B-Ls(nR parallel to.parallel to m) vertical bar = 2( )(dim(Ls(nR parallel to)(vertical bar.parallel to vertical bar)(m))). We also show that every extreme point of the closed unit ball of F is exposed. It is shown that ext B-Ls ((nR parallel to.parallel to m)) = ext B-L((nR parallel to.parallel to m)) boolean AND L-s (R-n(parallel to.parallel to)m) and exp B-Ls(nR parallel to.parallel to m) = exp B-L((nR parallel to.parallel to m)) boolean AND L-s(R-n(parallel to.parallel to)m). | Kim, Sung Guen | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Math, Daegu 702701, South Korea | 34769667700 | sgk317@knu.ac.kr; | ACTA SCIENTIARUM MATHEMATICARUM | ACTA SCI MATH | 0001-6969 | 2064-8316 | 87 | 1-2 | ESCI | MATHEMATICS | 2021 | N/A | 1.19 | 2025-07-30 | 4 | 8 | multilinear forms; symmetric multilinear forms; extreme points; exposed points | EXPOSED 2-HOMOGENEOUS POLYNOMIALS; EXTREME BILINEAR-FORMS; UNIT BALL; HOMOGENEOUS POLYNOMIALS; SUPREMUM NORMS; POINTS; SPACES; POLARIZATION | Exposed points; Extreme points; Multilinear forms; Symmetric multilinear forms | English | 2021 | 2021 | 10.14232/actasm-020-824-2 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기
| ○ | ○ | Article | GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STATE POLICY OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA IN THE ARCTIC (Evolution and promising directions) | The article compares the provisions of normative documents that determine the Arctic policy of Korea and the results of a survey by Korean experts dealing with Arctic issues. The presented study examines the issues of transforming the priorities of the ROK state policy in the Arctic and promising areas of Seoul's activity in the Arctic region. An analysis of the main regulatory documents that determine the priorities of the Republic of Korea in the Arctic (the Arctic Policy Basic Plan for 2013-2017 and the Arctic Development Basic Plan for 2018-2022) demonstrates the growing importance of economic cooperation in the Arctic as a priority for Korean policy. The results of the expert survey conducted as part of the study demonstrate that the Korean expert community considers environmental protection and response to climate change a paramount for the country's policy in the Arctic region. According to the study, the experts have chosen the following most important tasks in the Arctic: "responding to climate change and forecasting climate change"; "protection of the marine environment and biological resources"; "conservation of ecosystems"; "the introduction and development of polar scientific research"; "expansion of polar research and monitoring infrastructure". The survey results indicate that the key direction of the Arctic policy for the Republic of Korea, is the development of international relations within the framework of the Arctic Council, the main subject of which is scientific research in the field of climate and ecology. Thus, despite the priorities formulated in the General Plan for the Development of Arctic Activities for 2018-2022, Arctic experts consider the establishment of international partnerships to be a more important task than the participation of Korean business in Arctic projects and the creation of Arctic infrastructure. | Seo, H. -K.; Pak, J. -K.; Chistov, Igor I. | Korea Polar Res Inst KOPRI, Korea Arctic Res Consortium KoARC, 26 Songdomirae Ro, Incheon 21990, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, 80 Daehak Ro, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Lomonosov Moscow State Univ, 49 Lomonosovskii Prosp, Moscow 119991, Russia | Chistov, Igor/GZL-8209-2022 | 57215348756; 57671147300; 57670845600 | shkshk@kopri.re.kr;parkjk1028@gmail.com;chistov_igor@mail.ru; | MIROVAYA EKONOMIKA I MEZHDUNARODNYE OTNOSHENIYA | MIROVAYA EKON MEZHD | 0131-2227 | 65 | 8 | ESCI | INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS | 2021 | N/A | 0.13 | 2025-07-30 | 0 | 1 | Arctic; Korea; polar cooperation; Arctic policy; KOPRI; Arctic Research | Arctic; Arctic policy; Arctic Research; KOPRI; Korea; Polar cooperation | Russian | 2021 | 2021-08 | 10.20542/0131-2227-2021-65-8-90-96 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||

| ○ | ○ | Proceedings Paper | Haar Filter Hardware Architecture for the Accuracy Improvement of Stereo Vision Systems | In stereo vision systems, mismatching can occur frequently in specific regions containing noise and high-frequency components, such as checkered patterns. Therefore, this paper proposes a preprocessing method and architecture based on a 2-D Haar filter to improve the matching accuracy of disparity map by reducing the high-frequency and noise components. In this paper, the disparity map is computed by the semi-global matching (SGM) method, and separable weighted median filter is adopted as postprocessing. The SGM with proposed method reduces the average number of mismatching pixels by 3.5233% in non-occlusion condition and 3.2647% in occlusion condition compared to that with a 2-D Gaussian filter when using the KITTI 2015 stereo dataset. The proposed method is suitable for embedded stereo vision systems that requires high matching accuracy with reasonable resource overhead. | Choi, Cheol-Ho; Kim, Younghyeon; Ha, Jiseok; Moon, Byungin | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Grad Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect Engn, Daegu, South Korea | Choi, Cheol-Ho/GLQ-8365-2022; Moon, Byungin/ACE-5308-2022 | 57208281649; 57219317399; 57424578200; 55419717700 | qwe0725@knu.ac.kr;young1993@knu.ac.kr;jsh02016@knu.ac.kr;bihmoon@knu.ac.kr; | 18TH INTERNATIONAL SOC DESIGN CONFERENCE 2021 (ISOCC 2021) | 2163-9612 | 0.39 | 2025-07-30 | 3 | 3 | preprocessing; stereo vision; semi-global matching; 2-D Haar filter | 2-D Haar filter; preprocessing; semi-global matching; stereo vision | Embedded systems; Median filters; Stereo image processing; 2-D haar filter; Condition; Disparity map; Haar filter; High frequency components; Higher-frequency components; Preprocessing; Semi-global matching; Stereo vision system; Stereo vision | English | 2021 | 2021 | 10.1109/isocc53507.2021.9614032 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Hair Growth-Promoting Mechanisms of Red Ginseng Extract through Stimulating Dermal Papilla Cell Proliferation and Enhancing Skin Health | This study aimed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of red ginseng extract (RGE) on regulating hair growth and hair follicle development. Results from in vitro studies showed that RGE treatment simultaneously enhanced viability and inhibited apoptosis in human hair dermal papilla cells. Moreover, RGE administration promoted telogen-to-anagen transition, prolonged anagen in hair follicular cycling, and increased the size of hair follicles and skin thickness in a C57BL/6 mouse model. Furthermore, RGE treatment significantly upregulated the expression of eta-catenin, phospho-glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta, cyclin D1, cyclin E, and Bcl-2, phospho-extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase, and phospho-Akt, which are associated with promoting hair growth. In addition, RGE enhanced skin health by activation of antioxidant defense systems. Our data demonstrates that hair regenerative mechanisms of RGE may be mediated by stimulating dermal papilla cell proliferation and enhancing skin functions. | Truong, Van-Long; Jeong, Woo-Sik | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Food & Bio Ind Res Inst, Sch Food Sci & Biotechnol, Coll Agr & Life Sci, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Jeong, Woo-Sik/AAN-6885-2020 | 55925363400; 10440750200 | wsjeong@knu.ac.kr; | PREVENTIVE NUTRITION AND FOOD SCIENCE | 2287-1098 | 2287-8602 | 26 | 3 | 0.56 | 2025-07-30 | 10 | 11 | alopecia; beta-catenin; dermal papilla cell; hair growth; red ginseng extract | Alopecia; Dermal papilla cell; Hair growth; Red ginseng extract; β-catenin | English | 2021 | 2021-09 | 10.3746/pnf.2021.26.3.275 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||
| ○ | Article | Hand gesture classification using early fusion based multimodal deep learning; [초기 융합 기반 다중 모드 딥 러닝을 사용한 손 제스처 분류] | In this paper, we propose a new hand gesture classification strategy using early fusion based multimodal deep learning. The structure and parameters of the state-of-the-art deep learning models such as ResNet152, DenseNet201, EfficientNetB0 for the source task of image classification are reused in the target task of hand gesture classification using surface electromyograph(EMG) and finger's kinematic data. The time-domain EMG and kinematic signals are normalized and then transformed into combined 2-D images for the early-fusion network. The experimental results support the superiority of the proposed method in terms of classification accuracy. The transfer learning model with the EfficientNetB0 shows the 93.94% accuracy for 40 gestures of 40 participants in the Ninapro DB2. © 2021 Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers. | ○ | Article | Hand Gesture Recognition using RVC Normalization and Transfer Learning | In this paper, we propose a new hand gesture recognition strategy using network-based transfer learning(TL) and reference voluntary contraction(RVC) normalization. The structure and parameters of the state-of-the-art deep learning models such as VGG19, ResNet152 and DenseNet121 for source task of image classification are reused in the target task of hand gesture recognition based on surface electromyography(EMG) signals. To mitigate the difficulty in handling the subject-dependent EMG signals, the RVC normalization is adopted in the signal pre-processing. The time-domain EMG signals are transformed into 2-D images for TL networks. The experimental results verify the validity of the proposed method in terms of recognition accuracy. The TL using VGG19, RVC normalization and gray image transformation shows 99.78% accuracy for the data from 15 participants performing 20 different gestures. © 2021 Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers. | ○ | ○ | Proceedings Paper | Hardware Architecture of a Haar Classifier Based Face Detection System Using a Skip Scheme | Face recognition applications are being widely studied owing to their extensive usability in the field of computer vision. However, processing an entire image requires a considerable amount of time. To reduce the processing time, several algorithms that extract only the face from the image during pre-processing are studied. Haar classifiers are extensively used for the hardware implementation of face detection algorithms that improve the processing speed of face classification. This paper proposes a Haar classifier based face detection architecture that removes unnecessary iterations during classification to further improve the processing speed. The proposed architecture improves the processing speed by 4.46% compared to that of conventional Haar classifier based face detection architectures, for face detection using a VGA image with 30 faces. The proposed architecture tends to improve the processing speed as the number of faces in the image increases while matching the detection accuracy of conventional methods. Additionally, this architecture can be widely applied to classification algorithms that are based on iterations. | Hyun, Jongkil; Kim, Junghwan; Choi, Cheol-Ho; Moon, Byungin | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Grad Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect Engn, Daegu, South Korea | Choi, Cheol-Ho/GLQ-8365-2022; Moon, Byungin/ACE-5308-2022 | 56911778100; 57222321332; 57208281649; 55419717700 | bihmoon@knu.ac.kr; | 2021 IEEE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON CIRCUITS AND SYSTEMS (ISCAS) | 0271-4302 | 1.66 | 2025-07-30 | 3 | 7 | FPGA; hardware architecture; face detection; Haar classifier | Face detection; FPGA; Haar classifier; Hardware architecture | Computer architecture; Computer hardware; Image enhancement; Classification algorithm; Conventional methods; Face classification; Face detection algorithm; Face detection system; Hardware architecture; Hardware implementations; Proposed architectures; Face recognition | English | 2021 | 2021 | 10.1109/iscas51556.2021.9401114 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||||
| ○ | Conference paper | Hardware implementation of the coding algorithm based on FPGA | In this article, the efficient implementation multiplier of polynomials irreducible polynomials modulo for cryptographic encryption and decryption using FPGA is presented. For this, the Nexys 4 board based on the Artix-7 Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) from Xilinx was chosen. Verilog HDL is used to describe the circuit for reducing a number modulo. The results of a timing simulation of the device are presented in the form of time diagrams for a given 8-bit number, confirming the correct operation of the device. The developed encryption algorithm on the basis of non-positional polynomial notations is intended for software, hardware, and also software and hardware implementation. The main hardware-implemented device in non-positional algorithm of the cryptographic transformation is a device for the multiplication of polynomials irreducible polynomials modulo, which produces routine calculations on data encryption. These mathematical operations are computationally intensive and fundamental arithmetic operations, which are intensively used in many fields such as cryptography, number theory, and finite field arithmetic. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd. | Ibraimov, M.K.; Tynymbayev, S.T.; Park, Jongtae; Zhexebay, D.M.; Alimova, M.A. | Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Almaty, 050040, Kazakhstan; Information and Computational Technologies Institute, Almaty, 050010, Kazakhstan; Kyungpook National University, Daegu, 41566, South Korea; Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Almaty, 050040, Kazakhstan; Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Almaty, 050040, Kazakhstan | 57189617696; 57200075185; 57222125770; 57204696440; 57802755000 | alimova.madina@kaznu.kz; | IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering | 1757-8981 | 1047 | 1 | 0.24 | 2025-07-30 | 1 | English | Final | 2021 | 10.1088/1757-899x/1047/1/012137 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||||||||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Proceedings Paper | Here, There, Anywhere: Profiling-Driven Services to Tame the Heterogeneity of Edge Applications | Edge computing alleviates network bottlenecks by engaging devices at the edge for data processing tasks. These devices possess limited computing resources, while edge execution environments are inherently heterogeneous. It is non-trivial to dynamically allocate the limited resources of heterogeneous devices to balance high performance and low resource utilization. To that end, this paper presents a profiling-based methodology that effectively matches edge computational tasks with the available devices to best satisfy programmer-defined non-functional requirements. Edge tasks are divided into microservices, which are then profiled for their resource utilization. To execute each task, the runtime consults the profiling results to determine the optimal device-to-microservice matching. We realize our methodology as mu HTA, whose service-oriented architecture manages the heterogeneity of edge environments and optimally executes microservices on the available mobile devices. We evaluated mu HTA by applying it to two realistic edge mobile applications. Our methodology can help developers bridge the gap between the statically specified non-functional requirements and the dynamic nature of edge environments, while reducing the developer burden of optimally utilizing edge-based computing resources. | Pandey, Manish; Cruz, Breno Dantas; Le, Minh; Kwon, Young-Woo; Tilevich, Eli | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Comp Sci & Engn, Daegu, South Korea; Virginia Tech, Software Innovat Lab, Blacksburg, VA USA; Walmart, Bentonville, AR USA | Dantas Cruz, Breno/HHN-1163-2022; Pandey, Manish/J-6825-2019; Kwon, Young-Woo/HGE-6607-2022 | 57239896800; 57193338170; 57194562891; 57208480210; 6507251807 | manish@knu.ac.kr;bdantasc@cs.vt.edu;minhld38@gmail.com;ywkwon@knu.ac.kr;tilevich@cs.vt.edu; | 2021 IEEE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SMART DATA SERVICES (SMDS 2021) | 0.38 | 2025-07-30 | 1 | 2 | Edge Computing; Profiling; Resource Allocation; Mobile Service Market; Heterogeneity | LOW-LATENCY; ALLOCATION; INTERNET | Edge Computing; Heterogeneity; Mobile Service Market; Profiling; Resource Allocation | Data handling; Information services; Mobile telecommunication systems; Service oriented architecture (SOA); Computing resource; Edge computing; Heterogeneity; Mobile service; Mobile service market; Non-functional requirements; Profiling; Resources allocation; Resources utilizations; Service markets; Edge computing | English | 2021 | 2021 | 10.1109/smds53860.2021.00019 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||||

To maximize the sum secrecy rate of the considered system, we formulate an optimization problem with regard to precoders. To solve the formulated problem, we first approximate the objective function by using the LogSumExp technique and show that finding a local optimum is equivalent to finding a leading eigenvector of the first-order optimality condition of the reformulated problem. Accordingly, we propose a novel algorithm called generalized power iteration for hierarchical information accessibility (GPI-HIA) to obtain a solution. Via simulations, we demonstrate that the proposed method significantly outperforms other baseline schemes under the considered HIA scenario. | Lee, Kanguk; Choi, Jinseok; Kim, DongKu; Park, Jeonghun | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect Engn, Daegu, South Korea; Ulsan Natl Inst Sci & Technol, Dept Elect Engn, Ulsan, South Korea; Yonsei Univ, Dept Elect & Elect Engn, Seoul, South Korea | Choi, Jinseok/AAL-6383-2020; Aldhahir, Naofal/HCH-5192-2022 | 57274956700; 57190581671; 15019369300; 57853652900 | kanguk.lee@knu.ac.kr;jinseokchoi@unist.ac.kr;dkkim@yonsei.ac.kr;jeonghun.park@knu.ac.kr; | 2021 IEEE GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS CONFERENCE (GLOBECOM) | 2334-0983 | 2576-6813 | 0.17 | 2025-07-30 | 0 | 1 | SPECTRAL EFFICIENCY; UNICAST | Hierarchical systems; Iterative methods; Network layers; Accessibility model; Formulated problems; Hierarchical information; Information accessibility; Low priorities; Multiple layers; Objective functions; Optimization problems; Physical layer security; Precoders; MIMO systems | English | 2021 | 2021 | 10.1109/globecom46510.2021.9685873 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기
| ○ | ○ | Proceedings Paper | High-density 3D reconstruction in a Large space using single camera and 2D LiDAR | We propose a method of 3D reconstructing a large indoor space using a 2D LiDAR and a single camera. This device that combines a 2D LiDAR with a single camera scans 360 degrees areas using a rotating stage. We use this device to scan indoor buildings, solve resolution constraints for rotational stages, and show high-density 3D reconstruction results. It also introduces how to perform indoor reconstruction in a wide area by combining scanned information from various locations. | Oh, Sangha; Park, Soon-Yong | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu, South Korea | Park, Soon-Yong/HGV-2374-2022 | 57270689900; 7501834063 | oha0622@gmail.com;sypark@knu.ac.kr; | 2021 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTATIONAL SCIENCE AND COMPUTATIONAL INTELLIGENCE (CSCI 2021) | 0.52 | 2025-07-30 | 4 | 5 | 3D reconstruction; Indoor scanning; 3D map | 3D map; 3D reconstruction; Indoor scanning | Cameras; Optical radar; 3D maps; 3D reconstruction; Indoor scanning; Indoor space; Large spaces; Rotating stage; Single cameras; Image reconstruction | English | 2021 | 2021 | 10.1109/csci54926.2021.00332 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 |
