| ○ | Article | Isolation of polyphenol compounds from ganoderma lucidum and pancreatic lipase inhibitory activities | In this study, a Ganoderma lucidum methanol extract was fractionated according to the polarity of the solvent, Diaion HP 20 gel column chromatography was used to isolate the polyphenol compounds in the ethyl acetate fraction that showed the highest antioxidant capacity. The anti-obesity effects of each fraction were examined by measuring, the pancreatic lipase inhibitory activities. The polyphenol compounds were identified by HPLC. The antioxidant capacity and pancreatic lipase inhibitory activities in the ethyl acetate fraction were the highest among them (P<0.05). To isolate the polyphenol compounds, the ethyl acetate fraction was obtained with 30%, 60%, and 90% ethanol fractions by Diaion HP 20 gel chromatography. The DPPH (1.93 mM gallic acid equivalent) and ABTS (5.36 mM Trolox equivalent (TE)) radical scavenging activity, FRAP activity (5.92 mM TE), total phenolic content (121.46 mg%), and total flavonoid content (24.91 mg%) in 60% ethanol fraction were the highest (P<0.05). The pancreatic lipase inhibitory activity in the 60% ethanol fraction (1,000 μg/mL) also showed the highest activity as 93.30% (P<0.05). HPLC was used to identify the polyphenol compounds (gallic acid, quercetin, naringenin, kaempferol, and hesperetin) from the G. lucidum methanol extract, ethyl acetate fraction, and 60% ethanol fraction. Among them, the 60% ethanol fraction showed the highest content of total polyphenol compounds. Hesperetin (186.19±5.76 μg/mL) and quercetin (178.60±6.41 μg/mL) were obtained at high levels, followed by naringenin, kaempferol, and gallic acid (P<0.05). © 2020 Korean Society of Food Science and Nutrition. | ○ | Article | Kmeria duperreana pierre dandy extract suppresses LPS-induced iNOS and no via regulation of NF kb pathways and p38 in murin macrophage raw 264.7 cells | Development of anti-inflammatory products remains in high demand due to the incidence of inflammatory diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and neurodegenerative diseases. In this study, we examined the potential anti-inflammatory activity of the nutraceutical, Kmeria duperreana (Pierre) Dandy extract (KDE). We evaluated the ability of KDE to inhibit lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory markers, including nitric oxide (NO), nuclear factor kappa-B, and mitogen-Activated protein kinases, in RAW 264.7 cells. KDE suppressed LPS-induced nitrite production and inducible NO synthase (iNOS) expression in RAW 264.7 cells, but has no effect on cyclooxygenase-2 expression. KDE also suppressed LPS-induced phosphorylation of p65, I?B kinase, and p38 in RAW 264.7 cells. Through Western blot assays and immunofluorescence results, we showed that KDE suppresses LPS-induced p65 translocation from cytosol to the nucleus in RAW 264.7 cells. Moreover, KDE suppressed mRNA expression of LPS-induced interleukin (IL)-1β?in RAW 264.7 cells, but had no effect on mRNA expression of IL-6 or tumor necrosis factor-α. These results demonstrate that KDE may be a promising anti-inflammatory nutraceutical. KDE may act by suppressing iNOS expression and subsequent NO production by inhibiting phosphorylation of p65 and p38 and suppressing translocation of p65 from the cytosol to the nucleus. | ○ | Conference paper | KnEA with Ensemble Approach for Parameter Selection for Many-Objective Optimization | Multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs), in the past few decades have received immense recognition in effectively solving the multi-objective problems (MOPs), but these MOEAs encounter difficulties in handling the Many-Objective problems (MaOPs) due to the curse of dimensionality. In the literature, a knee point-driven evolutionary algorithm (KnEA) is proposed for handling the many-objective optimization which employs the concept of knee-points and weighted distance to select the better solutions in the mating and environmental selection. In the existing KnEA, to identify the knee-points, an adaptive strategy is adopted which employs a parameter T which is problem-specific and should be specified for each test problem separately. Hence, in our paper, we propose an ensemble approach to the existing KnEA by employing a set of values for the parameter T. In other words, instead of employing different value of the parameter T, for each test case, we would like to employ a unique set of values for the parameter T for all the test problems through the ensemble approach. For analyzing the performance of the ensemble approach, we have conducted experiments on 16 benchmark problems and the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed ensemble performs competitively with the state-of-art algorithms. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. | Palakonda, Vikas; Mallipeddi, Rammohan | School of Electronics Engineering, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, 702 701, South Korea; School of Electronics Engineering, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, 702 701, South Korea | 57193028485; 25639919900 | mallipeddi.ram@gmail.com; | Communications in Computer and Information Science | 1865-0929 | 1159 CCIS | 0.32 | 2025-06-25 | 1 | Ensemble approach; Knee-points; Many-objective optimization; Multi-objective optimization | Benchmarking; Biomimetics; Computation theory; Bench-mark problems; Curse of dimensionality; Ensemble approaches; Many-objective optimizations; Multi objective evolutionary algorithms; Multi-objective problem; Parameter selection; Weighted distance; Evolutionary algorithms | English | Final | 2020 | 10.1007/978-981-15-3425-6_56 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||||||||

| ○ | ○ | Article | Korean Children and Adolescents with Crohn's Disease Are More Likely to Present with Perianal Fistulizing Disease at Diagnosis Compared to Their European Counterparts | Purpose: We aimed to investigate the disease phenotype of Korean pediatric Crohn's disease (CD) patients at diagnosis according to the Paris classification by comparison with patients from the European multicenter 5-years recruitment of children with newly developed IBD (EUROKIDS registry). Methods: Korean children and adolescents who had been newly diagnosed with CD at the age of <18 years during 2013-2016 were included in this multicenter retrospective study. Disease phenotype at diagnosis was classified according to the Paris classification, and compared with the published data from the EUROKIDS study. Results: A total of 255 patients were included. The median diagnosis age was 14.7 years (range, 0.8-17.9 years). No significant difference was observed in male-to-female ratio with EUROKIDS (1.9:1 vs. 1.45:1, p=0.062). The proportion of children aged <10 years was significantly lower in Koreans (7.1% vs. 19.6%, p<0.001). Colonic disease was less prominent (10.0% vs. 27.3%, p<0.001), while upper GI involvement was more prominent in Korean children (59.3% vs. 46.2%, p<0.001). The proportion with perianal fistulizing disease at diagnosis was significantly higher in Korean patients (44.8% vs. 8.2%, p<0.001). A separate analysis of Korean patients revealed that perianal fistulizing disease at diagnosis was positively associated with male sex and body mass index z-score (odds ratio [OR]=2.12, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.20-3.76, p=0.010; and OR=1.29, 95% CI=1.05-1.58, p=0.015, respectively). Conclusion: Approximately half of pediatric CD patients in Korea present with perianal fistulas and/or abscesses at diagnosis, which is a distinct feature of CD in Korean children and adolescents compared to their European counterparts. An underlying genetic difference between ethnicities may play a role in this expression of different phenotypes in pediatric CD. | Kang, Ben; Kim, Jung Eun; Jung, Jae Hun; Choe, Jae Young; Kim, Mi Jin; Choe, Yon Ho; Kim, Seung; Koh, Hong; Lee, Yoo Min; Lee, Jee Hyun; Lee, Yoon; Lee, Ji-Hyuk; Lee, Hae Jeong; Jang, Hyo-Jeong; Choi, Youjin; Choi, So Yoon; Kim, Ju Young; Choe, Byung-Ho | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Pediat, 680 Gukchaebosang Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Crohns & Colitis Assoc Daegu Gyeongbuk CCAiD, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Emergency Med, Sch Med, Daegu, South Korea; Sungkyunkwan Univ, Samsung Med Ctr, Dept Pediat, Sch Med, Seoul, South Korea; Yonsei Univ, Severance Childrens Hosp, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, Seoul, South Korea; Soonchunhyang Univ, Coll Med, Dept Pediat, Bucheon Hosp, Bucheon, South Korea; Korea Univ, Coll Med, Dept Pediat, Ansan Hosp, Ansan, South Korea; Korea Univ, Coll Med, Dept Pediat, Anam Hosp, Seoul, South Korea; Chungbuk Natl Univ, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, Cheongju, South Korea; Sungkyunkwan Univ, Samsung Changwon Hosp, Dept Pediat, Sch Med, Chang Won, South Korea; Keimyung Univ, Dept Pediat, Sch Med, Daegu, South Korea; Inje Univ, Coll Med, Dept Pediat, Ilsan Paik Hosp, Goyang, South Korea; Inje Univ, Coll Med, Dept Pediat, Haeundae Paik Hosp, Busan, South Korea; Eulji Univ, Dept Pediat, Sch Med, Daejeon, South Korea | JUNG, JAEHUN/KHE-5939-2024; Choe, Byung-Ho/KSM-6251-2024; Lee, Jiwon/CAJ-1171-2022; Choe, Jae/AAJ-5209-2020; 康, 奔/JMQ-0812-2023; Kim, Mi Jin/GXH-9639-2022 | 57194823199; 56547720300; 57214886196; 57023107400; 56638815200; 21333712100; 57196230792; 35789948700; 55588928200; 35115008200; 55588945800; 36011672600; 35722209100; 55355948500; 56063619400; 57207282105; 57202996384; 57574977300 | bhchoe@knu.ac.kr; | PEDIATRIC GASTROENTEROLOGY HEPATOLOGY & NUTRITION | PEDIATR GASTROENTERO | 2234-8646 | 2234-8840 | 23 | 1 | ESCI | PEDIATRICS | 2020 | N/A | 1.53 | 2025-06-25 | 23 | 21 | Crohn disease; Fistula; Abscess; Paris; Classification; Phenotype; Korea; Europe; Pediatrics; Inflammatory bowel disease | INFLAMMATORY-BOWEL-DISEASE; LONG-TERM OUTCOMES; PHENOTYPE; DEFINITION; TRENDS | Abscess; Classification; Crohn disease; Europe; Fistula; Inflammatory bowel disease; Korea; Paris; Pediatrics; Phenotype | English | 2020 | 2020-01 | 10.5223/pghn.2020.23.1.49 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Korean parents' perceptions of the challenges and needs on school re-entry during or after childhood and adolescent cancer: a multi-institutional survey by Korean Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology | Background: For children and adolescents with cancer, going back to school is a key milestone in returning to "normal life." Purpose: To identify the support vital for a successful transition, we evaluated the parents' needs and the challenges they face when their children return to school. Methods: This multi-institutional study was conducted by the Korean Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology. The written survey comprised 24 questions and was completed by 210 parents without an interviewer. Results: Most parents (165 of 206) reported that their children experienced difficulties with physical status (n=60), peer relationships (n=30), academic performance (n=27), emo-tional/behavioral issues (n=11), and relationships with teachers (n=4) on reentering school. Parents wanted to be kept informed about and remain involved in their children's school lives and reported good parent-teacher communication (88 of 209, 42.1%). Parents reported that 83.1% and 44.9% of teachers and peers, respectively, displayed an adequate understanding of their children's condition. Most parents (197 of 208) answered that a special program is necessary to facilitate return to school after cancer therapy that offers emotional support (n=85), facilitates social adaptation (n=61), and provides tutoring to accelerate catch up (n=56), and continued health care by hospital outreach and school personnel (n=50). Conclusion: In addition to scholastic aptitude-oriented programs, emotional and psychosocial support is necessary for a successful return to school. Pediatric oncologists should actively improve oncology practices to better integrate indivi-dualized school plans and educate peers and teachers to improve health literacy to aid them in understanding the needs of children with cancer. | Lee, Jun Ah; Lee, Jae Min; Park, Hyeon Jin; Park, Meerim; Park, Byung Kiu; Ju, Hee Young; Kim, Ji Yoon; Park, Sang Kyu; Lee, Young Ho; Shim, Ye Jee; Kim, Heung Sik; Park, Kyung Duk; Lim, Yeon-Jung; Chueh, Hee Won; Park, Ji Kyoung; Kim, Soon Ki; Choi, Hyoung Soo; Ahn, Hyo Seop; Hah, Jeong Ok; Kang, Hyoung Jin; Shin, Hee Young; Lee, Mee Jeong | Natl Canc Ctr, Ctr Pediat Canc, Dept Pediat, Goyang, South Korea; Yeungnam Univ, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, Daegu, South Korea; Samsung Med Ctr, Dept Pediat, Seoul, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Pediat, Sch Med, Daegu, South Korea; Univ Ulsan, Ulsan Univ Hosp, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, Ulsan, South Korea; Hanyang Univ, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, Seoul, South Korea; Keimyung Univ, Dept Pediat, Sch Med, Daegu, South Korea; Chonbuk Natl Univ Hosp, Dept Pediat, Jeonju, South Korea; Chungnam Natl Univ, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, Daejeon, South Korea; Dong A Univ, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, Busan, South Korea; Inje Univ Busan Paik Hosp, Dept Pediat, Busan, South Korea; Inha Univ, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, Incheon, South Korea; Seoul Natl Univ Bundang Hosp, Dept Pediat, Seongnam, South Korea; Daegu Fatima Hosp, Dept Pediat, Daegu, South Korea; Seoul Natl Univ, Canc Res Inst, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, Seoul, South Korea; Dankook Univ, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, 119 Dandae Ro, Cheonan 31116, South Korea | Lee, Jae Min/H-8475-2013; Lee, Jaewoong/IQS-0514-2023; Park, Jung Hoon/CZZ-0090-2022 | 23097522100; 39261799700; 35739156500; 36626096800; 35300225600; 56389223700; 57205408095; 57209835309; 43262250600; 55906474200; 7410134477; 7408065158; 23972945200; 39261421100; 35332704400; 55190025100; 24576435400; 7202928380; 7003942219; 7404071502; 56582799400; 56080197500 | lmjped@hanmail.net; | CLINICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL PEDIATRICS | 2713-4148 | 63 | 4 | 0.82 | 2025-06-25 | 10 | 8 | School re-entry; Childhood cancer; Parents | Childhood cancer; Parents; School re-entry | academic achievement; adolescent; Article; behavior; cancer therapy; child; child parent relation; childhood cancer; emotionality; female; health care personnel; human; human relation; Korean (people); major clinical study; male; oncology; perception; physical appearance; physical status; short survey; social adaptation; social psychology; training | English | 2020 | 2020-04 | 10.3345/kjp.2019.00696 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Laparoscopic resection of two inflammatory fibroid polyps: An unusual cause of jejunojejunal intussusception | INTRODUCTION: Inflammatory fibroid polyps (IFPs) are rare, clinically benign tumors that can present as an intussusception causing intestinal obstruction. PRESENTATION OF CASE: We present a rare case of a 23-year-old man who suffered from intussusception caused by two IFPs. The patient complained of aggravated squeezing epigastric pain that prompted him to visit the emergency department. Moderate abdominal distention with mild tenderness was noted without signs of peritonitis. Abdominal computed tomography confirmed the presence of intussusception in the left lower quadrant. During laparoscopic surgery, the intussuscepted segment of the jejunum was identified, after which laparoscopic small bowel resection and anastomosis were performed. The patient was subsequently discharged without postoperative complications. DISCUSSION: IFPs are rare, clinically benign tumors of the gastrointestinal tract originating from the submucosa. IFPs can present as an intussusception causing intestinal obstruction. CONCLUSION: Surgical resection is the optimal treatment method for IFPs accompanied by intussusception. (C) 2020 The Author(s). | ○ | ○ | Article | Large-scale, Miocene Mud Intrusion into the Overlying Pleistocene Coastal Sediment, Pohang City, SE Korea: Deformation Mechanism, Trigger, and Paleo-seismological Implication for the 2017 Pohang Earthquakes | The 2017 Pohang Earthquakes occurred near a drill site in the Pohang Enhanced Geothermal System. Water injected for well stimulation was believed to have reactivated the buried near-critically stressed Miocene faults by the accumulation of the Quaternary tectonic strain. However, surface expressions of the Quaternary tectonic activity had not been reported near the epicenter of the earthquakes before the site construction. Unusual, large-scale water-escaped structures were identified 4 km away from the epicenter during a post-seismic investigation. The water-escaped structures comprise Miocene mudstones injected into overlying Pleistocene coastal sediments that formed during Marine Isotope Stage 5. This indicates the vulnerable state of the mudstones long after deposition, resulted from the combined effects of rapid tectonic uplift (before significant diagenesis) and the development of an aquifer at their unconformable interface of the mudstonc. Based on the detailed field analysis and consideration of all possible endogenic triggers, we interpreted the structures to have been formed by elevated pore pressures in the mudstones (thixotropy), triggered by cyclic ground motion during the earthquakes. This interpretation is strengthened by the presence of faults 400 in from the study area, which cut unconsolidated coastal sediment deposited after Marine Isotope Stage 5. Geological context, including high rates of tectonic uplift in SE Korea, paleo-seismological research on Quaternary faults near the study area, and historical records of paleoearthquakes in SE Korea, also support the interpretation. Thus, epicenter and surrounding areas of the 2017 Pohang Earthquake are considered as a paleoseismologically active area, and the causative fault of the 2017 Pohang Earthquakes was expected to he nearly critical state. | Gihm, Yong Sik; Ko, Kyoungtae; Choi, Jin-Hyuk; Choi, Sung-ja | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Earth Syst Sci, Dept Geol, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Korea Inst Geosci & Mineral Resources, Geol Div, Daejeon 34132, South Korea | Choi, Jin/V-7460-2018 | 56025805300; 56652511400; 57225010505; 56124203900 | naress@knu.ac.kr; | ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL GEOLOGY | ECON ENVIRON GEOL | 1225-7281 | 2288-7962 | 53 | 5 | ESCI | GEOLOGY | 2020 | N/A | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 1 | 1 | thixotropy; liquidiration; fluidization; earthquakes; Pohang Basin | LIQUEFACTION-INDUCED FEATURES; EMPIRICAL RELATIONSHIPS; BASIN; EVOLUTION; MAGNITUDE; DEPOSITS; GEOMETRY; SYSTEMS | Earthquakes; Fluidization; Liquidization; Pohang Basin; Thixotropy | English | 2020 | 2020-10 | 10.9719/eeg.2020.53.5.585 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 |
