| ○ | Conference paper | An Active Power Control Method for Enhancing Primary Frequency Control Dynamics in Grid-Forming Inverter Systems | With the increasing penetration of renewable energy sources and the corresponding decrease in power system inertia, the potential for frequency instability in the grid has become a growing concern. In response, there is active research into grid-forming inverters, which are designed to mimic the dynamic characteristics of synchronous generators, thereby providing inertia and damping to the power system. A key aspect of enhancing frequency stability, particularly concerning the frequency nadir, involves integrating rapid primary frequency control with the inertia response. This paper introduces a novel control strategy that not only replicates the basic characteristics of synchronous generators but also significantly enhances the frequency nadir by offering a faster primary frequency response than existing grid-forming inverter controls. © 2024 IEEE. | Kim, Ki-Hyun; Arinze, Obi Stephen; Cui, Shenghui; Jung, Jae-Jung | Kyungpook National University, School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, South Korea; Kyungpook National University, School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, South Korea; Seoul National University, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, South Korea; Kyungpook National University, School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, South Korea | 59194094800; 59226400100; 56157479900; 55368433400 | 2024 IEEE 10th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference, IPEMC 2024 ECCE Asia | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | Grid-forming; Power loop controller; Primary frequency control; Synchronous generator | Electric inverters; Electric power system control; Frequency response; Renewable energy; Active power control; Control dynamic; Control methods; Frequency nadirs; Grid-forming; Inverter system; Loop controllers; Power; Power loop controller; Primary frequency control; Synchronous generators | English | Final | 2024 | 10.1109/ipemc-ecceasia60879.2024.10567334 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||||||||||||||||
| ○ | Article | An AI-assisted approach for creating and archiving interior design references using 360-degree panoramic images | In the early stages of architectural design, reference images are crucial for design communication; however, they are often captured and used in a subjective, unstandardized manner. The medium of traditional photography necessitates taking multiple shots to fully represent a space; in contrast 360-degree panoramic images offer a comprehensive single-image view, capturing diverse perspectives and detailed spatial information. However, despite these advantages, panoramic images remain underutilized in the early stages of architectural design due to challenges in selecting suitable reference images for design communication. To address this gap, this study presents a novel AI-based approach for systematically creating and archiving 360-degree panoramic images that can be used as interior design reference images. The proposed approach contributes to the refinement of the interpretation accuracy of 360-degree panoramic images and enhances their systematic organization. This approach also streamlines image storage and retrieval processes, thus facilitating their effective use in design communication. © 2024 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group. | Lee, Jin-Kook; Kim, Youngchae; Shin, Eunseo; Choo, Seungyeon; Cha, Seung Hyun | Department of Interior Architecture and Built Environment, Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea; Department of Interior Architecture and Built Environment, Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea; Department of Interior Architecture and Built Environment, Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea; School of Architecture, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea; Graduate School of Culture Technology, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, South Korea | 57201264374; 58354686700; 57219208919; 59540541900; 56555854500 | shcha@kaist.ac.kr; | Architectural Science Review | ARCHIT SCI REV | 0003-8628 | 1758-9622 | AHCI | ARCHITECTURE | 2024 | 1.9 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | 360-degree panoramic images; archiving; data processing; generative design; image training; interior design reference images | English | Article in press | 2024 | 10.1080/00038628.2024.2445049 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Proceedings Paper | An Analysis of the Dissemination Status of Makeup and Skincare Videos on the Bilibili | This paper explores the dissemination characteristics of videos related to makeup and skincare on Bilibili, a prominent video community in China. Through analyzing the annual distribution, content creators' characteristics, and video view counts of 88 makeup and skincare videos, we observed a growing trend in video production from 2019 to 2022, followed by a decline in 2023. The study reveals that creators who have distinct personal styles, produce short-duration videos, and utilize suspenseful titles are more effective in spreading their content. Consequently, it suggests that novice creators can improve their videos' visibility by focusing on personalized content and crafting titles that ignite viewer curiosity. This research not only provides strategic insights for producing makeup and skincare content but also contributes to the broader understanding of beauty content dissemination on social media, particularly within the Chinese context. | Li, Weiqi; Zhang, Shichao; Zhang, Jiayi; Li, Kunhe; Huo, Tao | Xiamen Univ Technol, Sch Film Televis & Commun, Xiamen, Fujian, Peoples R China; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Media & Commun, Daegu, South Korea; Keimyung Univ, Dept Journalism & Visual Commun, Coll Social Sci, Daegu, South Korea | Zhang, Jiayi/AAJ-6276-2021 | 59166657100; 59166789100; 59166657200; 59166657300; 59166264200 | zhshch@knu.ac.kr; | HCI INTERNATIONAL 2024 POSTERS, PT VI, HCII 2024 | 1865-0929 | 1865-0937 | 2119 | 0 | 2025-04-16 | 0 | 0 | Beauty; Makeup and Skincare Video; BiliBili; Self-media | Beauty; BiliBili; Makeup and Skincare Video; Self-media | Annual distributions; Beauty; Bilibili; Content creators; Content dissemination; Makeup and skincare video; Personalized content; Self-medium; Short durations; Video production; Artificial intelligence | English | 2024 | 2024 | 10.1007/978-3-031-61966-3_10 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||
| ○ | Article | An Analysis of Visual Behavior Characteristics of Naturalistic Gardens Using Eye-Tracking | Background and objective: As the understanding of biodiversity and sustainable ecological landscapes has increased, public interest in naturalistic landscapes has grown. However, naturalistic landscapes are still often seen as messy or even unsafe, and research findings on public perceptions remain inconsistent. The purposes of this study were to analyze public’s perception of naturalistic landscapes in Korea and to explore the value of naturalistic landscapes. Research on naturalistic landscapes in Korea remains limited. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze public’s perception of naturalistic landscapes in Korea, and explored the value of naturalistic landscapes. Methods: This study explores the perceived value of naturalistic landscapes in Korea in terms of ecological value, aesthetics, and preference for naturalistic and formal landscapes. An eye-tracking experiment was conducted to investigate the visual patterns of participants and differences in their attention toward the landscape elements of naturalistic and formal landscapes. Forty participants evaluated six images (three naturalistic landscapes and three formal landscapes) containing six elements (trees, shrubs, flowers, water, buildings, and hardscapes). Results: The results revealed significant differences in perception between naturalistic and formal landscapes. Although participants were more familiar with formal landscapes, they had a higher perception of the ecological value, aesthetics, and preference for naturalistic landscapes. The eye-tracking results showed that the visual patterns were relatively dispersed across the naturalistic landscapes, while they were more concentrated in the formal landscapes. Participants spent more time looking at shrubs and flowers in the naturalistic landscapes. In the formal landscapes, attention was drawn more to hardscapes, buildings, and water. Conclusion: These findings suggest that naturalistic landscapes not only benefit biodiversity and ecological sustainability but also align with public aesthetics. There is thus a need to consider incorporating more naturalistic landscapes into urban landscape design and to explore natural planting methods and compositional schemes that highlight their value. © 2024 by the Society for People, Plants, and Environment. | Lee, Hyung-Sook; Qian, Wang; Lee, Jeong-Yeon | Department of Landscape Architecture, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, 41566, South Korea; Department of Landscape Architecture, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, 41566, South Korea; Department of Landscape Architecture, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, 41566, South Korea | 35210890100; 59529306600; 57449281300 | qiany@knu.ac.kr; | Journal of People, Plants, and Environment | 2508-7673 | 27 | 6 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | attention; landscape perception; naturalistic landscape; visual pattern | English | Final | 2024 | 10.11628/ksppe.2024.27.6.615 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||||||||
| ○ | Conference paper | An Efficient Path Planning Algorithm for Autonomous Racing Systems | Autonomous driving (AD) has gained tremendous attention in recent years due to its great potential in enhancing road safety. This rising popularity has led to an emerging research field called autonomous racing. The idea of applying autonomous driving techniques to racing is expected to push the envelope of autonomous technology to its limits due to the requirement of high-speed processing and racing rules such as racing flags. In this paper, we propose a simple yet efficient path-planning algorithm for autonomous racing systems. The algorithm consists of two planners: global and local. The global planner is used to handle different flags in car racing and generate a global path, while the local planner with an adaptive-resolution occupancy grid-based planning method is deployed to avoid obstacles and enhance the safety of high-speed driving. The algorithm is implemented in an autonomous vehicle and tested at the proving ground of the Korea Intelligent Automotive Parts Promotion Institute (KIAPI), under the 2024 autonomous driving competition for university students, Daegu, Republic of Korea. © 2024 IEEE. | Thu, Nguyen Thi Hoai; Eun, Seung Woo; Kang, Sin Jae; Han, Dong Seog | School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Graduate School, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea; School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Graduate School, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea; School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Graduate School, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea; School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea | 57216620557; 59553871000; 59553318500; 7403219442 | International Conference on ICT Convergence | 2162-1233 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | autonomous driving; autonomous racing; path planning | Autonomous vehicles; Racing automobiles; Vehicle-to-grid; Autonomous driving; Autonomous racing; Autonomous technology; Driving techniques; Efficient path planning; High-speed processing; Path-planning algorithm; Research fields; Road safety; Simple++; Motion planning | English | Final | 2024 | 10.1109/ictc62082.2024.10827019 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Proceedings Paper | An Indoor Positioning Method Using High Probability RSSI | This paper addresses a novel method for RSSI-based ranging precision in an indoor positioning The main challenge is to overcome the random signal interference to improve the accuracy of the ranging method. In order to overcome the disadvantages of the problem, several approaches have been proposed in numerous sources, such as mean filter, median filter and Gaussian filter algorithms. However, these current methods may not provide satisfactory results in dynamic indoor environments. Therefore, we tackle the problem by presenting an algorithm that improves the RSSI by averaging over multiple high-frequency RSSI observations. For example, fitting a wireless signal fading model based on various correlations between the high-frequency RSSI average and distance. This would allow us to obtain more accurate distance measurements. The results of the experiment show that the method significantly improve the precision without the requirement of additional equipment compared to existing methodologies. | Li, Jinlong; Park, Joongoo; Cui, Shuyu; Dong, Jiabin; Rana, Lila; Hwang, Jungyu | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu, South Korea | 58783810700; 24329712800; 58783970500; 58784428300; 58783364500; 55816210200 | 2023000464@knu.ac.kr;jgpark@knu.ac.kr;cuishuyu@knu.ac.kr;dong116745@knu.ac.kr;rana.lila98@knu.ac.kr;junkyu891015@gmail.com; | 2024 9TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTER AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS, ICCCS 2024 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | 0 | indoor positioning; Wi-Fi signal strength; attenuation log model; average of the highest RSSI of the frequency | attenuation log model; average of the highest RSSI of the frequency; indoor positioning; Wi-Fi signal strength | Wi-Fi; Attenuation log model; Average of the high RSSI of the frequency; High frequency HF; High probability; Indoor positioning; Log models; Positioning methods; Signal strengths; Wi-fi signal strength; Wi-Fi signals; Median filters | English | 2024 | 2024 | 10.1109/icccs61882.2024.10603198 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||||||
| ○ | Conference paper | An optimized design of the cryogenic detector for the spectrum-shape method to study the 99Tc forbidden β decay | The spectrum-shape method has been proposed to determine the effective value of weak coupling constants ratio of vector coupling constant (gV) and axial-vector coupling constant (gA) in the forbidden β decays. We use 99Tc which has a second non-unique forbidden β decay. The shape function strongly depends on the gV/gA in the variant nuclear-model frameworks and the spectrum. The end point energy (Q value) of 99Tc β decay is 293.5 keV, making it suitable for deposition in a thin gold foil absorber. We use cryogenic detector, metallic magnetic calorimeter is used to achieve good energy resolution. The detector's signal amplitude depends on the heat capacity, which directly influences the energy resolution. To enhance the detection efficiency, a perfect solid angle absorber (4π-absorber) is used to contain the radioactive source and full deposition of the beta particles in the absorber. This absorber is manufactured by dropping and drying 99Tc, which is dissolved in a nitric acid solution, onto a thin gold foil. After drying, it is covered with another gold foil as a sandwich-like structure and each layers are welded together. The simulation is conducted to achieve the total absorption of energy of particles prepared with various sizes (1 mm2, 4 mm2) and concentrations (2.5 Bq, 5 Bq). We will present manufacturing details of the source, the setup of detectors, and the preliminary results of the measurements. © 2024 Author(s). | Song, Jiwan; Kim, Hyelim; Lee, Minkyu; Kim, Hongjoo | Physics Department, Kyungpook National University (KNU), Deagu, 41566, South Korea, Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), Daejeon, 34113, South Korea; Center for Underground Physics, Institute of Basic Science (IBS), Daejeon, 34126, South Korea; Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), Daejeon, 34113, South Korea; Physics Department, Kyungpook National University (KNU), Deagu, 41566, South Korea | 57219472868; 57218825747; 7409120947; 58483690400 | hongjooknu@gmail.com; | AIP Conference Proceedings | 0094-243X | 3138 | 1 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | 99Tc β-decay; Axial-vector coupling; Metallic magnetic calorimeter; quenching gA-value; Spectrum-shape method | English | Final | 2024 | 10.1063/5.0206600 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||||||||

| ○ | Article | Analysis and Prediction of Cosmetic Properties in Creeping Rosemary; [크리핑 로즈마리(Rosmarinus officinalis prostratus)의 미용 활성 분석 및 예측] | In this study, antioxidant, whitening, anti-wrinkle, and pore contraction properties were analyzed. The total phenolic contents of creeping rosemary (CR) under optimal extraction conditions in water extract (CRWE) and 70% ethanol extract (CREE) were 23.03 mg/g and 29.56 mg/g, respectively. DPPH and ABTS free radical scavenging activities of CRWE and CREE were approximately 83% and 99% at 100 μg/g, respectively. Moreover, the antioxidant protection factor of CRWE and CREE was 1.83 and 1.84 at 100 μg/g, respectively. CRWE was shown 100% hyaluronidase inhibition, 45.38% collagenase inhibition as anti-inflammation and wrinkle improvement properties. CREE exerted higher inhibitory activities about tyrosinase, collagenase, elastase, hyaluronidase, astringent effect on 38.86%, 29.59%, 38.87%, 59.59%, and 14.14%, respectively. Using the support vector regression statistics model to predict optimal conditions for biological activity, the optimal inhibitory concentrations for DPPH, ABTS, and antioxidant protection factor were predicted to be 100 μg and TBARs was predicted to be 70 μg. The optimal inhibitory concentrations of tyrosinase and elastase were predicted to be 400 μg and 200 μg, respectively. For collagenase and hyaluronidase inhibition, the optimal concentrations were predicted to be 320 μg and 200 μg for CRWE and 400 μg of both enzymes for CREE, respectively. In addition, the optimal concentration for the astringent effect was predicted to be 400 μg. These results indicated the antioxidant, whitening, pore-tightening, and anti-wrinkle properties of CR extracts, which have potential use as ingredients for cosmetics. © 2024 The Korean Society of Food Science and Nutrition. | Kim, Geun-A; Cho, Chan-Hyo; Cho, Young-Je | School of Food Science & Biotechnology, Research Institute of Tailored Food Technology, Kyungpook National University, South Korea; Department of Applied Statistics, Korea University, South Korea; School of Food Science & Biotechnology, Research Institute of Tailored Food Technology, Kyungpook National University, South Korea | 58790905500; 59401073300; 55265396300 | yjcho@knu.ac.kr; | Journal of the Korean Society of Food Science and Nutrition | 1226-3311 | 53 | 10 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | antioxidant; biological activity; creeping rosemary; prediction; support vector regression statistics program | Korean | Final | 2024 | 10.3746/jkfn.2024.53.10.1030 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||||||||
| ○ | Article | Analysis of Battery Energy Loss in Electric Vehicles Using Simulation Techniques in Diverse Driving Environments; [다양한 주행환경에서 시뮬레이션 기법을 활용한 전기자동차의 배터리 에너지 손실 분석] | In winter, the range of electric vehicles significantly decreases due to cabin heating and poor battery performance in low temperatures. As the battery temperature drops, the internal resistance of the battery rises, increasing energy loss. This study developed an electric vehicle simulation model using MATLAB/Simulink, which was used to analyze energy loss caused by battery internal resistance. The MCT mode, commonly employed for the electric vehicle energy efficiency test, was utilized for the drive mode, and various road gradients were applied to investigate the battery characteristics over a broader range of power. The simulation results demonstrated that, at a 0 % road gradient, the energy losses at low temperatures(0 °C) were approximately 4.54 times higher than those at high temperatures(30 °C). Similarly, for 3% and 6 % road gradients, the energy losses were about 7.62 and 7.79 times higher at 0 °C than at 30 °C, respectively. © 2024 Korean Society of Automotive Engineers. | ○ | Article | Analysis of Inverter Loss Improvement According to Si-IGBT and SiC-MOSFET Utilization of 150kW Inverter for EV Propulsion | Recently, due to the commercialization of power semiconductors based on SiC (Silicon carbide) devices with high voltage operation, high frequency operation, and high temperature operation characteristics, there is growing interest in transition conventional Si device to SiC power semiconductors. In order to convert the widely used Si-based inverters to SiC-based inverters, it is necessary to quantitatively evaluate the inverter system improvement due to the use of Si or SiC device power semiconductors. In this paper, the efficiency comparison of a 150kW inverter for EV propulsion using Si-IGBT and SiC-MOSFET is carried out, and the system improvements due to the conversion of power semiconductors is analyzed. For accurate comparison, a Si-IGBT/SiC-MOSFET power module with the same specifications of 1200V, 600A is selected, and an inverter performance test over entire driving range is performed with only the power semiconductor and gate driver changed. Through driving cycle analysis based on inverter performance test results, it is verified that when switching from Si-IGBT to SiC-MOSFET, inverter energy loss is reduced by 26.3%. © 2024 Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers. | ○ | ○ | Proceedings Paper | Analysis of Row Hammer and Passing Gate Effect in DRAM Cells by BCAT Structural Design | In this paper, we investigate the impact of structural parameters such as gate angles, fin height through the control of gate overlaps and the distance from fin to source/drain on the row hammer effect (RHE) and passing gate effect (PGE) of DRAM cells. In a DRAM cell, the larger the angle of the gate profile and the lower the overlap height between the fin and gate of the cell transistor, the lower the RHE and PGE. Thus, the influence of adjacent and passing gates on the DRAM cell body potential is a key factor in RHE and PGE, and through optimization, the performance and reliability of DRAM technology can be improved. | Im, Jisung; Kim, Hansol; Kim, Jinsu; Woo, Seungmin; Kwon, Taeseong; Yoon, Young Jun; Bae, Jong-Ho; Woo, Sung Yun | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch ECE, Daegu, South Korea; Andong Natl Univ, Dept EE, Andong, South Korea; Kookmin Univ, Sch EE, Seoul, South Korea | Bae, Jong-Ho/V-5237-2019; Kim, Hansol/MAI-1017-2025; Kim, Jinsu/ADX-7780-2022; Yoon, Young/L-1747-2019 | 59325078500; 58542537300; 57201935131; 59793026600; 59325436300; 55517032200; 55339347700; 57212495752 | sywoo@knu.ac.kr; | 2024 IEEE SILICON NANOELECTRONICS WORKSHOP, SNW 2024 | 2161-4636 | 3.73 | 2025-05-07 | 2 | 2 | DRAM; BCAT; TCAD simulation; row hammer effect(RHE); passing gate effect(PGE) | BCAT; DRAM; passing gate effect(PGE); row hammer effect(RHE); TCAD simulation | Gates (transistor); Integrated circuit design; Junction gate field effect transistors; Structural analysis; BCAT; Cell transistor; DRAM cells; Fin height; Gate overlap; Passing gate effect; Row hammer effect; Source-drain; Structural parameter; TCAD simulation; Hammers | English | 2024 | 2024 | 10.1109/snw63608.2024.10639230 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||||
