| ○ | ○ | Article | Comparison of species composition among Picea jezoensis (Siebold & Zucc.) carriere forests in Northeast Asia (from China to South Korea) | In this study, we aimed to provide basic data on the vegetation structure of the Picea jezoensis forest of Gyebangsan, Sobaeksan, Deogyusan, and Jirisan in South Korea and Baekdusan in China and to compare the abiotic and biotic factors correlated with the species composition of Picea jezoensis forests from South Korea and China. The Picea jezoensis forest stand structure was more stable in the Baekdusan region of China than in South Korea. In Sobaeksan, South Korea, a severe decline in Picea jezoensis was observed, and the basal area occupied by the species (2.89 +/- 1.11 m(2)/ha; approximately 8% of the total basal area) was lower than that occupied by broad-leaved trees. | ○ | ○ | Article | Neo-octaploids of Asplenium prolongatum Hook. (Aspleniaceae) occurred in Korea | Asplenium L. is a sub-cosmopolitan genus of ferns comprising approximately 700 species. It includes various ploidy-leveled taxa, and, in particular, polyploid species occupy a higher proportion than diploid species within the genus. In addition, it is regarded as an essential process to confirm the cytotype of taxa because the ploidy level is sometimes used to identify a particular taxon in Asplenium. In the case of A. prolongatum, two cytotypes, tetraploid and hexaploid, have been reported in Japanese and Chinese populations. However, to date, there have been no attempts to confirm the ploidy of the Korean species. In the present study, we investigated the cytotype of Korean A. prolongatum using chromosome counting and genome size measurements, and we found that two cytotypes, hexaploid (2n = 6x = 216) and octaploid (2n = 8x = 288), were distributed in Jeju Island, Korea. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a neo-cytotype of A. prolongatum. The hexaploids mostly had empty, shrunken sporangia, which is one of the traits observed in sterile hybrid ferns. From these results, it was concluded that A. prolongatum has three cytotypes: tetraploid, hexaploid, and octaploid. | ○ | ○ | Article | Vegetation characteristics and assessment of habitat suitability for Pedicularis ishidoyana Koidz. & Ohwi (Scrophulariaceae) community | This study aimed to establish conservation measures for the preservation of the natural habitats of Pedicularis ishidoyana, an endemic plant species in South Korea. A field survey was conducted using Braun-Blanquet's phytosociological method to analyze the vegetation characteristics of the natural habitat of P. ishidoyana in the regions of Gyeongju, Geoje, and Yeongyang in Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. Based on this, evaluations were made on the importance value and species diversity. As a result, the importance value of P. ishidoyana was found to be the highest in the Gyeongju (14.95) region, the species composition among different habitats was determined to be similar. Moreover, the natural habitats of P. ishidoyana were distributed in elevations ranging from 107 to 490 m, and the plants thrived mainly on slopes around valleys. In this study, the UKESM1-0-LL dataset and Maxent (Maximum entropy model) were utilized to forecast future distributional changes. Specifically, future climate data from the Shared Socioeconomic Pathway (SSP) 2-4.5 and 5-8.5 scenarios, as suggested in the IPCC 6th assessment report, were employed. As a result, it was analyzed that the suitable habitat for P. ishidoyana increased under the SSP 2-4.5 scenario, while it decreased under the SSP 5-8.5 scenario. | ○ | ○ | Article | Bright Green Emission of Tb³⁺ Doped Lithium Sodium Potassium Borate Glasses for Photonic Application | The melt-quenching approach was implemented to create terbium-doped lithium sodium potassium borate glasses (LNKBTb). Archimedes' principle, absorption and luminescence spectra, including CIE chromaticity were used to characterize the properties of glasses. Terbium in glasses absorbs photon in the visible and near infrared ranges. The intense green emission at 544 nm was generated by the terbium D-5(4) to F-7(5) transition when excited with ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) light. The emission intensities of LNKBTb glasses increased with increasing terbium concentrations up to 4 mol%, after which they decreased, resulting in the concentration quenching effect, whereas decay time decreases as Tb2O3 content increases. In CIE 1931, the overall color of emission is green. May bring can continue to develop to use as a photonic material in green light sources and lasers. | Jarucha, N.; Ruangtaweep, Y.; Meejitpaisan, P.; Kanthang, P.; Wongdamnern, N.; Limsuwan, P.; Kim, H. | ○ | ○ | Article | Broadband 1.53 μm Emission and McCumber Analysis of Er³⁺ Doped Alkali Oxyfluorophosphate Glass for Fiber Optic Communication Material | Er3+ doped alkali oxyfluorophosphate glasses were prepared by the melted quenching method and characterized their optical and photoluminescence properties. Firstly, the chemical compositions of glasses were varied by changing alkali fluoride (LiF and NaF), whereas the concentration of Er3+ was fixed at 1.00 mol%. The optical absorption pattern and intensity were resemblance. Broadband 1.53 mu m emission was one prominent peak of Er3+ in glass and the highest emission intensity was obtained for NaF glass under the stimulating at 521 nm. Secondly, the NaF glass was prepared by variation of Er3+ concentration (0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0 mol%). The emission intensity of glasses increases with an increase in Er(2)O(3 )concentration up to 2.00 mol% and decreases for higher Er2O3 concentration, because of the concentration quenching effect. Broadband emission was observed that it covers three telecommunication windows: S, C, and L bands. The absorption and emission cross-section of 2.00 mol% of Er(3+ )doped alkali oxyfluorophosphate were found to be 1.3895 x 10(-20) cm(2) and 1.7248 x 10(20) cm(-2) , respectively by using the McCumber theory. Both values led to the estimate of the internal gain coefficient for I-4(13/2) -> I-4(15/2) emission transition. The gain coefficient is positive when P is higher than 40%. All results point out that Er3+ doped alkali oxyfluorophosphate glass could be useful for fiber optic communication material. | Meejitpaisan, P.; Kim, H. | ○ | ○ | Article | Effect of Eu2O3 Concentrations Doped Li-Na-K Borate Glasses on Luminescence Properties for Red Emission Material | This paper investigated the europium-doped lithium sodium potassium borate glasses (LNKBEu). Glass was made using a melt-quenching technique with a range of europium doping concentrations ranging from 0.0 to 5.0 mol%. The absorption spectra showed that photons in the visible light and near infrared ranges were absorbed by the LNKBEu glasses. Photon absorption at 394 nm can excite the mirror to emit a number of photons in the VIS region, such as 590, 613, 652, and 701 nm. The results showed that 3.0 mol% was the optimal concentration of LNKBEu glass. Therefore, 3.0LNKBEu glass was studied using Judd-Ofelt (JO) analysis, which revealed an interesting possibility of its use. | ○ | ○ | Article | Efficacy of fucoxanthin extract from Sargassum horneri on 3T3-L1 pre-adipocyte differentiation | Obesity, a chronic disease characterized by excessive body fat accumulation, is associated with significant health risks. The state of being overweight or obese leads to a number of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, and osteoarthritis. Accordingly, the regulation of adipocyte proliferation and differentiation has been the focus of many studies. The goal of the present study was to investigate the function of fucoxanthin, extracted from Sargassum horneri, in adipocyte (3T3-L1 cells) differentiation. A quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was conducted to investigate the mRNA expression levels of adipocyte differentiation-related genes under fucoxanthin stimulation. All adipocyte-related genes responded to PIC stimuli. Additionally, using western blotting, we confirmed that fucoxanthin reduced adipocyte differentiation. These results indicate that fucoxanthin extracted from Sargassum horneri can regulate adipogenesis. Further studies are needed to reveal the signaling pathways that lead to reduced adipocyte differentiation induced by fucoxanthin. | Park, Jeong-Woong; Kang, Kyung Soo; Ha, In Su; Lee, Sang In; Shin, Sangsu | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Anim Sci & Biotechnol, Sangju 37224, South Korea; Shingu Coll, Dept Bio Life Sci, Seongnam Si 13174, South Korea; Fucozen Co Ltd, Ansan 15577, Gyeonggi Do, South Korea | 58198744600; 57198425395; 58287727700; 57203597336; 55490360000 | silee78@knu.ac.kr;sss@knu.ac.kr; | CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY | CELL MOL BIOL | 0145-5680 | 1165-158X | 69 | 2 | SCIE | BIOCHEMISTRY & MOLECULAR BIOLOGY;CELL BIOLOGY | 2023 | 1.5 | 87.4 | 0.4 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 3 | Fucoxanthin; nesis; NER) C; AGARDH; tances | CELL-CYCLE ARREST; ADIPOSE-TISSUE; CAROTENOID FUCOXANTHIN; INDUCE APOPTOSIS; OBESITY; EXPRESSION; FAT; ADIPOGENESIS; PROLIFERATION; INHIBITION | 3T3-L1; adipogenesis; Fucoxanthin; natural substances; Sargassum horneri (TURNER) C. | ○ | ○ | Article | Luminescence Behavior of Sm³⁺ Ion Doped Potassium Aluminium Gadolinium Phosphate Glasses as Orange Laser and Photonics Applications | Potassium aluminium gadolinium phosphate (KAGP) doped with difference contents of Sm3+ ion were synthesized by melt-quenching technique. The samples were further used to measure some physical, optical and luminescence properties. Absorption spectra show the hypersensitive transitions H-6(5/2) -> P-6(3/2) and H-6(5/2) -> F-6(7/2) at the wavelengths 402 and 1233 nm respectively. The photoluminescence spectra were recorded under 401 nm excitation, displayed the emission bands at 562, 597, 644 and 703 nm that corresponding to the transitions (4)G(5/2) -> H-6(J) (J = 5/2, 7/2, 9/2, 11/2) respectively, and the concentration quenching of Sm3+ showed at 1.0 mol%. Using the highest concentration of Sm3+ for emission spectra, Judd-Ofelt (J-O) analysis was performed to calculate the various radiative properties such as transition probabilities (A(R)), radiative lifetimes (tau(R)), branching ratios (beta(R)) and stimulated emission cross-section (sigma(lambda(p))) for different excited states. From the results of J-O parameter found to be Omega(2) > Omega(6) > Omega(4) and the highest value of radiative properties was (4)G(5/2) -> H-6(7/2) transition. The decay curve for lower concentration was single exponential and became non-exponential for higher concentrations of the (4)G(5/2) level. According to the chromaticity coordinates (Commission Internationale de l ' Eclairage), it indicated that the KAGP glass doped Sm3+ ion at 1.0 mol% lies in orange region. The KAGP glass doped concentration of Sm3+ at 1.0 mol% has potential application in developing the orange laser and suitable for optical device also. | Kiwsakunkran, N.; Chanthima, N.; Kim, H. | ○ | ○ | Article | Non-proportionality of Light Yield of CeBr3 Scintillator | Cerium bromide (CeBr3) scintillation crystal were studied and analyzed from the photon and electron response measurements. For photon response measurements, the radioactive source has been used for the energy range of 0.356 MeV <= E <= 1.332 MeV. The Cs-137 source irradiated with gamma ray energy at 0.662 MeV was used for the electron response measurement using Compton coincidence technique. The variable angles (theta) would generate the gamma energies corresponding to a scattering angle of 30(degrees) to 120(degrees). The results of number of photoelectron (N-phe) show responds to linear trends for photon and electron response. The light yield shows increase with increasing the photon and electron energy. The results showed the non-proportionality of photon response and electron response demonstrated good proportional properties of all energy ranges and as the result, the crystal is a promising candidate for gamma or X-rays detection. | Yonphan, S.; Chaiphaksa, W.; Kim, H.
