| ○ | ○ | Article | Development of a Dual Cryogenic Detection System for the Forbidden Non-unique β-Decay Spectrum Study | We present the development of a dual-detector system designed for investigating the spectral shape of forbidden non-unique beta decays. Two PbMoO4 scintillating crystals were carefully prepared for heat and light detection at milli-Kelvin (mK) temperatures. Notably, one crystal was synthesized using archaeological lead, while the other was composed of natural modern lead. The significance of employing two crystals lies in their identical dimensions and proximity, resulting in similar environmental background exposure. Their distinct internal radioactivities, particularly associated with Pb-210, introduce a distinguishing factor between the spectra measured in the two detectors. Our detection method includes achieving clear particle identification through the relative amplitudes of light and heat signals for both crystals. This report compares the electron-induced spectra within energy regions both below and above the endpoint of Bi-210 beta decay. This comparative study provides valuable insights into an exact measurement of the Bi-210 decay spectrum, forbidden non-unique beta decay. | Kim, H. L.; Kim, H. J.; Kim, W. T.; Kim, Y. D.; Kim, Y. | ○ | ○ | Article | Isometry property and inversion of a spherical mean Radon transform with centers on a hyperplane | The spherical mean Radon transform maps a suitable function f to the integral of f over a sphere. This transform is used in photoacoustic tomography based on the wave equation. There have been studies on the spherical mean Radon transform, including a method that uses an isometry property. In this paper, we demonstrate that the spherical mean Radon transform can be expressed as a convolution with specific (generalized) functions. Additionally, we provide an inversion formula for the spherical mean Radon transform, which is derived from the isometry property of the spherical mean Radon transform. | Kim, Jeongmin; Moon, Sunghwan | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Nat Sci, Dept Math, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 58821818800; 56063426100 | yknowjm21@knu.ac.kr; | AIP ADVANCES | AIP ADV | 2158-3226 | 14 | 1 | SCIE | MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;NANOSCIENCE & NANOTECHNOLOGY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2024 | 1.4 | 77.8 | 0.39 | 2025-04-16 | 1 | 1 | WAVE-EQUATION; FORMULAS; OPERATOR | Photoacoustic effect; Spheres; Generalized functions; Inversion formulae; Photoacoustic tomography; Property; Spherical means radon transforms; Radon | English | 2024 | 2024-01-01 | 10.1063/5.0186372 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||
| ○ | Article | Modification of the Metallic Magnetic Calorimeter Fabrication Process for High Production Yield | We have modified the fabrication processes of metallic magnetic calorimeters (MMCs) to improve production yield. Key modifications include (i) the stress mitigation of the sputtered Nb film by optimizing the Argon deposition gas pressure, (ii) an optimized SiOx insulator layer fabrication by switching from a lift-off to a wet-etching method and controlling the optimizing the temperature, (iii) the joint electroplating of thick gold structures for persistent current switch leads and a thermalization layer, and (iv) a reduced sputter-deposition time of the Ag:Er sensor material by introducing a new wafer holder. These modifications contribute to increased production yield, reduced fabrication time, and enhanced overall performance. Tests on MMCs fabricated with these modifications demonstrated uniformly improved critical current of the Nb meander coils, enhanced SiOx insulation properties, strengthened persistent current switch systems, and reduced probability of Ag:Er oxidation. These modified MMC detectors also functioned well in tests for alpha spectrometry measurements, demonstrating good performance. © The Author(s) 2024. | Song, J.W.; Kim, S.G.; Kim, H.S.; Kim, H.J.; Lee, M.K. | Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), Daejeon, 34113, South Korea, Physics Department, Kyungpook National University (KNU), Daegu, 41566, South Korea; Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), Daejeon, 34113, South Korea; Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), Daejeon, 34113, South Korea; Physics Department, Kyungpook National University (KNU), Daegu, 41566, South Korea; Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), Daejeon, 34113, South Korea | 57219472868; 55811804900; 59616462600; 59051568100; 7409120947 | minkyu@kriss.re.kr; | Journal of Low Temperature Physics | J LOW TEMP PHYS | 0022-2291 | 1573-7357 | 216 | 1-2 | SCIE | PHYSICS, APPLIED;PHYSICS, CONDENSED MATTER | 2024 | 1.4 | 77.8 | 0.37 | 2025-05-07 | 1 | Critical current; Low-temperature detector; Metallic magnetic calorimeter; Persistent current switch | Calorimeters; Deposition; Fabrication; Niobium; Silicon compounds; Fabrication process; Gas pressures; Key modifications; Low temperature detector; Metallic magnetic calorimeters; Nb film; Performance; Persistent current switch; Production yield; Stress Mitigation; Temperature | English | Final | 2024 | 10.1007/s10909-024-03178-y | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Precise evaluation of the material constants of [011]-poled mangan-doped 0.32Pb(In1/2Nb1/2)O3-0.39Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.29PbTiO3 single crystals | Recently, there has been a surge of interest in [011]-poled Mn: PIN-PMN-PT piezoelectric single crystals for high-power transducers. These crystals boast impressive electromechanical coupling coefficients, piezoelectric constants in the transverse mode, and excellent heat resistance due to their high mechanical quality factor. To effectively design transducers using these crystals, understanding their material constants is crucial. Our study focused on determining these constants by employing the resonance method. We created eleven different resonators, analyzed their impedance spectra, and derived seventeen elastic compliance, piezoelectric, and dielectric constants. The precision of the obtained material constants was enhanced by minimizing the difference between the impedance spectra found through finite element analyses and actual measurements of each resonator. The accuracy of these derived constants was validated by comparing the impedance spectra obtained from analysis with those measured experimentally. This novel approach demonstrated a capability to derive more precise material constants than prior studies. These refined material constants hold the potential to enable more precise and effective design of acoustic transducers constructed from the single crystals. | Kwon, Byungjin; Pyo, Seonghun; Je, Yub; Seo, Hee-Seon; Lee, Sanggoo; Roh, Yongrae | Agcy Def Dev, Chang Won 51678, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Daegu 41566, South Korea; iBULe Photon Inc, Incheon 21999, South Korea | 56513271000; 56715171600; 35086291000; 24765212200; 55605443400; 7102361870 | yryong@knu.ac.kr; | AIP ADVANCES | AIP ADV | 2158-3226 | 14 | 4 | SCIE | MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;NANOSCIENCE & NANOTECHNOLOGY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2024 | 1.4 | 77.8 | 0.71 | 2025-05-07 | 2 | 2 | Acoustic impedance; Electromechanical coupling; Heat resistance; Lead titanate; Niobium compounds; Piezoelectricity; Resonators; Electromechanical coupling coefficients; High power; Impedance spectrum; Materials constants; Mechanical quality factors; Piezoelectric constant; Piezoelectric single crystals; Power transducers; Resonance methods; Transverse-mode; Single crystals | English | 2024 | 2024-04-01 | 10.1063/5.0200785 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Role of oxide barrier in a NbOx layer with noninert electrodes for high-yield threshold switching characteristics | This study shows how the threshold switching (TS) characteristics of a NbOx layer with noninert W electrodes can be improved by introducing an oxide barrier. The similar to 10-nm-thick NbOx layer exhibits TS, which is known to originate from NbO2, after electroforming. However, an unwanted formation of a Nb2O5 layer at the top electrode (TE) interface has been observed, which deteriorates the TS, given the switching capability of Nb2O5. Therefore, a thin oxide layer was introduced to overcome the issue and enhance the TS behavior. Furthermore, the role of the oxide barrier is investigated systematically considering its location and unique properties. This study reveals that depositing a barrier at the bottom electrode interface makes the formation of NbO2 difficult, resulting in poor TS behavior, while placing the barrier at the TE interface could mitigate the Nb2O5 creation, promoting TS. Finally, the effect of incorporating various oxide types has been investigated, showing different switching behavior. Through examining the temperature dependence of the TS obtained from the W/NbOx/W and W/ZrO2/NbOx/W stacks, it was found that the suppression of Nb2O5 at the top interface is indirectly shown as a strengthened Schottky barrier from an electrical measurement perspective. As a result, excellent cell-to-cell uniformity of the TS is achieved in the ZrO2/NbO(x )stack, which not only prevents the formation of Nb2O5 but also stabilizes NbO2 in the NbOx layer. | Choi, Hyeonsik; Kim, Hyun Wook; Hong, Eunryeong; Kim, Nayeon; Jeon, Seonuk; Kim, Yunsur; Woo, Jiyong | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 58835686900; 57557016000; 57556070800; 59884547500; 57955098300; 58847712800; 53985749100 | jiyong.woo@knu.ac.kr; | AIP ADVANCES | AIP ADV | 2158-3226 | 14 | 1 | SCIE | MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;NANOSCIENCE & NANOTECHNOLOGY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2024 | 1.4 | 77.8 | 0 | 2025-04-16 | 0 | 0 | MEMORY; SELECTOR; SELECTIVITY; CONDUCTION; MECHANISM; DESIGN; DEVICE; FILMS; 1T1R | Electrodes; Niobium oxide; Temperature distribution; Zirconia; Bottom electrodes; Electrode interface; Higher yield; Property; Switching behaviors; Switching capability; Switching characteristics; Thin oxide layers; Threshold switching; Yield threshold; Schottky barrier diodes | English | 2024 | 2024-01-01 | 10.1063/5.0189138 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||

| ○ | ○ | Article | Understanding the role of GeSbTe layer on atomic switch through current sweep mode measurement for enhanced threshold switching device | We demonstrate how to improve the turn-off speed of Ag-based volatile atomic switches with an Al2O3 electrolyte by understanding the origin of filament instability. Under the current sweep mode, our findings reveal that the formation of Ag-Te bonding due to the insertion of a GeSbTe layer (Ag/GeSbTe/Al2O3-based device) prevents the formation of a thick and stable Ag filament. As a result, the end of the filament appears to have the size of a single Ag atom, when analyzed based on the quantum conductance model. Thus, the instability of the Ag filament is maximized because of the large surface energy of the small filament. Furthermore, the low thermal conductivity of GeSbTe maximizes the internal thermal energy and accelerates the spontaneous dissolution of the unstable Ag filament. Based on these observations, the GeSbTe layer was introduced into the Ag/HfO2-based volatile atomic switch to quantify its effects on the turn-off speed. Our results show that the turn-off speed can be increased by more than a hundredfold by controlling both the amount of metal ions in the electrolyte and the internal thermal energy. | ○ | ○ | Article | Using Platelet-Rich Fibrin to Remove Graphite Tattoos May Yield Excellent Long-Term Result | Graphite tattoos are rarely reported because they are mainly caused by an accidental injury or habits during childhood that cause a pencil to penetrate the oral mucosa. Unlike other pigmentations, it stains layers that are deeper than the subepithelial and mucosal layers, and in most cases, it takes the form of a grayish black macule. This case report describes depigmentation with the denudation technique that was followed by a novel approach of using platelet-rich fibrin to cover exposed bone. A 41-year-old male patient presented with an aesthetic complaint from a grayish black staining on the labial gingiva near the maxillary central and lateral incisors. The lesion was diagnosed as a graphite tattoo due to the patient's history of sticking his gum with pencils when he was young. The entire pigmented gingiva was surgically removed and covered with two layers of PRF membrane to protect the exposed bone surface and provide an extracellular matrix for migration of gingival fibroblasts. Healing patterns were observed at 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks, and satisfactory clinical and aesthetic results were obtained. Creeping attachment was observed at 8 years postop, and there was no recurrence for a long-term period of 13 years. | Cho, Young Joon; Jeong, Yong Tak; Lee, Tae Hee; Cho, Hyun Woo | Mac Dent Clin, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Dent, Dept Periodont, Taegu, South Korea; NYU, Coll Dent, New York, NY USA | CHO, YOUNG/KLZ-0702-2024; Cho, Young/GPC-7772-2022 | 59036668900; 59036200300; 59037137000; 59037615300 | macdental@knu.ac.kr;makai29@knu.ac.kr;127gygammaray@naver.com;hwc326@nyu.edu; | CASE REPORTS IN DENTISTRY | CASE REP DENT | 2090-6447 | 2090-6455 | 2024 | ESCI | DENTISTRY, ORAL SURGERY & MEDICINE | 2024 | 0.9 | 78.1 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | 0 | GINGIVAL DEPIGMENTATION | English | 2024 | 2024-06-24 | 10.1155/2024/5559986 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||

| ○ | ○ | Article | Application of natural fungi in bioconversion of lignocellulosic waste to second-generation ethanol | The second generation (2G) or cellulosic ethanol can help with diversification of the use of fossil energy sources. However, as bio-conversion of plant waste into 2G bioethanol requires expensive additional steps of pre-treatment/hydrolysis of lignocellulosic materials, and this technology has not yet reached the technological readiness level which would allow it to be scaled-up, this process needs more interdisciplinary and comprehensive studies. This work was aimed at experimental study of a full cycle of successive processes of pretreatment/saccharification using cellulolytic enzymes of filamentous fungi and fermentation of obtained syrups by xylose-fermenting yeast, using selected natural microorganisms for the fungal-based bioconversion of lignocellulosic agricultural waste to 2G ethanol. Using the Plackett-Burman and Box-Behnken methods of mathematical statistics, the optimal conditions for pre-treatment and enzymatic hydrolysis of wheat straw by a hemi- and cellulolytic multi-enzyme complex of the selected fungal strain Talaromyces funiculosus UCM F-16795 were established: microwave-assisted alkali pre-treatment with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solutions (concentration range 4.6-4.8%), and saccharification conditions of medium pH 4, temperature 40 degrees C, hydrolysis duration 18 hours, and dilution of culture liquid with a buffer solution 1:1. The total energy of microwave irradiation 1.2 kJ and the ratio of substrate/enzyme solution 100 mg/1 mL were used. Under optimized conditions, wheat straw hydrolysates contained 5.0-7.5 g/L of reducing sugars, which, according to HPLC assessment, contained 0.7-1.0 g/L of glucose, 2.2-2.9 g/L of xylose and 0.7-0.8 g/L cellobiose. We used the selected strain of xylosefermenting yeast in fermentation of mixtures of the most important monosaccharides in hydrolysates, xylose and glucose, in the concentration range relevant for syrups obtained by us during the optimized saccharification of lignocellulosic substrates with T. funiculosus enzymes. Based on sequencing and phylogenetic analysis, strain UCM Y-2810 was confirmed as Scheffersomyces stipitis; its nucleotide sequences of ITS region and 28S gene rDNA were deposited in GenBank under the accession numbers OP931914 and OP931915, respectively. The ethanologenic process for S. stipitis UCM Y-2810 was studied according to Box-Behnken design, assessing ethanol concentration by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Yeast fermentation under static microaerophilic conditions showed a 1.5 times higher rate of bioethanol production and 1.7 times greater efficiency of ethanologenesis per yeast biomass than for submerged cultivation. Optimization of the process of ethanologenesis resulted in the maximum rate of fermentation mixture of sugars, being 11.30 +/- 0.36 g/L of ethanol, with optimal values of factors: 30 g/L of xylose, 5.5 g/L of glucose and cultivation for 5.5 days. It was revealed that the tested glucose concentrations did not significantly affect the process of xylose-fermentation by yeast, and non-competitive inhibition of xylose transport by glucose into yeast cells did not occur. This study demonstrated the potential of a full cycle bioconversion of lignocellulosic waste to 2G ethanol based on use of natural fungal strains and optimization of conditions for all steps. | Fomina, M.; Yurieva, O.; Pavlychenko, A.; Syrchin, S.; Filipishena, O.; Polishchuk, L.; Hong, J. | ○ | ○ | Article | Assessment of Diagnostic Performance of Risk Factors Affecting Extraprostatic Extension: Role of Zonal Level of Prostate Cancer | Objective: Extraprostatic extension (EPE) serves as a crucial marker of prostate cancer aggressiveness and independently predicts the likelihood of biochemical recurrence (BCR), exhibiting a strong correlation with the histologic severity of EPE. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the probability of EPE along the zonal level of the prostate by measuring tumor contact length (TCL) using multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI). Patients and Methods: Records of 308 patients who had undergone radical prostatectomy (RP) were identified. Tumor levels in the prostate were categorized as apex, mid-gland, and base, after which the correlation between TCL measured using MRI and microscopic EPE on pathologic specimens was evaluated. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to assess the association among tumor origin, index tumor diameter, and TCL measured using MRI and microscopic EPE in RP specimens. Results: Among the 214 patients included, 45 apical cancers (21%), 87 mid-gland cancers (41%), and 82 base cancers (38%) were observed. Pathological reports revealed that 18 (40.0%) apex, 31 (35.6%) mid-gland, and 50 (61.0%) base tumors were pT3a. Multivariable analysis demonstrated that the zonal level of the tumor, especially the base level, was an independent predictive factor for EPE (P < 0.001), and the AUC value of the base tumor was 0.858. Conclusion: Prostate cancers arising from the base were more likely to exhibit EPE than those arising from the mid-gland and apex of the prostate gland. Therefore, identifying the origin of the zonal level of prostate cancer may help guide treatment decisions and predict clinical prognosis. | Park, Seo Young; Jeon, Ga young | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Radiol, 680 Gukchaebosang Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Asan Med Ctr, Dept Radiol, Seoul, South Korea | 57210379391; 58735250200 | uniun0926@gmail.com; | CURRENT MEDICAL IMAGING | CURR MED IMAGING | 1573-4056 | 1875-6603 | 20 | SCIE | RADIOLOGY, NUCLEAR MEDICINE & MEDICAL IMAGING | 2024 | 1.1 | 79.0 | 0 | 2025-04-16 | 0 | 0 | Prostate; Neoplasms; Magnetic resonance imaging; Neoplasm staging; Extraprostatic extension | TUMOR CONTACT LENGTH; RADICAL PROSTATECTOMY; EXTRACAPSULAR EXTENSION; MRI; ADENOCARCINOMA; LOCATION; PATTERNS; INVASION; BIOPSY; IMPACT | Extraprostatic extension; Magnetic resonance imaging; Neoplasm staging; Neoplasms; Prostate | Diagnosis; Diseases; Magnetic resonance imaging; Regression analysis; Risk assessment; Urology; prostate specific antigen; Contact length; Diagnostic performance; Extraprostatic extension; Neoplasm; Neoplasm staging; Prostate; Prostate cancers; Radical prostatectomy; Risk factors; Strong correlation; adult; aged; androgen deprivation therapy; apparent diffusion coefficient; Article; biochemical recurrence; cancer grading; cancer prognosis; cancer radiotherapy; cancer staging; clinical assessment; cohort analysis; controlled study; diagnostic test accuracy study; diffusion weighted imaging; disease severity; extraprostatic extension; Gleason score; histology; histopathology; holmium laser prostate surgery; human; human tissue; image analysis; major clinical study; male; multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging; needle biopsy; observational study; oncological parameters; outcome assessment; prostate cancer; prostate imaging reporting and data system; radical prostatectomy; receiver operating characteristic; retrospective study; risk factor; sensitivity and specificity; T2 weighted imaging; tumor contact length; tumor localization; tumor volume; Tumors | English | 2024 | 2024 | 10.2174/1573405620666230908111737 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Atypical Radiological Findings of Capillary Hemangioma in Right Atrium: A Case Report | Background: Cardiac hemangiomas account for only 2.8% of primary cardiac tumors and are caused by the abnormal proliferation of endothelial cells and excess blood vessels. Typical radiological findings of cardiac hemangioma demonstrate intense contrast enhancement. Case Presentation: Here we report the case of a 69-year-old man who presented with a right atrial mass found incidentally with multimodal imaging findings, including echocardiography, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This case presented with poor enhancement within right atrial mass on dynamic contrast-enhanced CT scan and gadolinium-enhanced first-pass perfusion image of cardiac MRI. After surgical resection, the pathologic diagnosis of cardiac capillary hemangioma was made. Conclusion: Cardiac hemangioma could be included in the differential diagnosis for cardiac neoplasms demonstrating poor enhancements on CT and MRI scans. | Seo, An Na; Park, Byunggeon; Lim, Jae-Kwang; Byun, Jungsup; Park, Ji Eun; Cha, Jung Guen; Hong, Jihoon; Park, Seo Young; Park, Jongmin | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyungpook Natl Univ Chilgok Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Pathol, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Radiol, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Internal Med, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Radiol, 680 Gukchaebosang Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea | Park, Jinkyeong/GLV-1649-2022 | 55804153700; 57211532915; 55515341400; 58159642500; 57195437358; 57206855971; 57215858314; 57210379391; 57216463879 | jmmpark@knu.ac.kr; | CURRENT MEDICAL IMAGING | CURR MED IMAGING | 1573-4056 | 1875-6603 | 20 | SCIE | RADIOLOGY, NUCLEAR MEDICINE & MEDICAL IMAGING | 2024 | 1.1 | 79.0 | 0 | 2025-04-16 | 0 | 0 | Heart; Hemangioma; Ultrasonography; Magnetic resonance imaging; Computed tomography; Tumor | CARDIAC TUMORS | Computed tomography; Heart; Hemangioma; Magnetic resonance imaging; Tumor; Ultrasonography | Blood vessels; Computerized tomography; Echocardiography; Endothelial cells; Heart; Image enhancement; Magnetic resonance imaging; gadolinium; liver enzyme; platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule 1; Atypicals; Case reports; Computed tomography; Contrast Enhancement; Dynamic contrast-enhanced; Endothelial-cells; Haemangioma; Multimodal imaging; ON dynamics; Radiological findings; aged; Article; cancer hormone therapy; cancer radiotherapy; cancer surgery; capillary hemangioma; cardiovascular magnetic resonance; case report; clinical article; computer assisted tomography; contrast enhancement; differential diagnosis; dynamic contrast enhanced computed tomography; echocardiography; echography; electrocardiogram; endothelium cell; follow up; heart; heart muscle capillary; heart right atrium; heart tumor; hemangioma; histopathology; human; human tissue; imaging; immunohistochemistry; inferior cava vein; late gadolinium enhancement imaging; male; nuclear magnetic resonance imaging; prostate cancer; radiology; transesophageal echocardiography; Tumors | English | 2024 | 2024 | 10.2174/1573405620666230411143510 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 |
