| ○ | Article | Anesthetic management for inhibiting sympathetic activation in an adolescent patient diagnosed with catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia and undergoing left cardiac sympathetic denervation: A case report | Key Clinical MessageCatecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) is a genetic disorder in which catecholamine release during exercise or emotional stress cause fatal tachyarrhythmias. In this paper, we discuss methods to minimize the sympathetic stimulation that can occur during the perioperative period in patients undergoing left cardiac sympathetic denervation to surgically treat CPVT. | Kwak, Kyung-Hwa; Do, Young-Woo; Yu, Taeyoung; Oh, Jinyoung; Byun, Sung-Hye | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyungpook Natl Univ Chilgok Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Anesthesiol & Pain Med, 807 Hoguk Ro, Daegu 41404, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyungpook Natl Univ Chilgok Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Thorac & Cardiovasc Surg, Daegu, South Korea | Byun, Sung Hye/AEK-1234-2022 | stone0311@naver.com; | CLINICAL CASE REPORTS | CLIN CASE REP | 2050-0904 | 11 | 7 | ESCI | MEDICINE, GENERAL & INTERNAL | 2023 | 0.6 | 67.0 | 1 | case report; catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia; nerve block; perioperative care; sympathectomy | THORACIC EPIDURAL-ANESTHESIA; SERRATUS PLANE BLOCK; CHILDREN; RECOVERY; EFFICACY; OUTCOMES | English | 2023 | 2023-07 | 10.1002/ccr3.7658 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article; Proceedings Paper | Single-Port Robotic Intersphincteric Resection for the Treatment of Rectal Cancer | Background:The da Vinci Single-port (SP) system is designed to facilitate single-incision robotic surgery in a narrow space. We developed a new procedure of intersphincteric resection (ISR) using the SP platform and evaluated the technical safety and feasibility of this procedure for the treatment of very low rectal cancer. Materials and Methods:Eleven rectal cancer patients who underwent SP robotic ISR between August 2020 and July 2021 were included. Patients' clinical characteristics, operative and pathologic findings of the patients were retrospectively analyzed. Results:The median tumor height was 3 cm (range, 2-4 cm). A single docking was performed, and the median docking time was 3 min 10 sec (range, 2 min 50 sec-3 min 30 sec). The median total operation time was 210 min (range, 150-280 min), and the median time of pelvic dissection was 57 min (range, 45-68 min). All patients presented with negative distal resection margins [median 1 cm (range, 0.5-2.0 cm)], and only one patient had less than 1mm of circumferential resection margin (0.9 mm). Conclusions:Our initial experience suggests that SP robotic ISR is safe and feasible. | Kim, Hye Jin; Choi, Gyu-Seog; Song, Seung Ho; Park, Jun Seok; Park, Soo Yeun; Lee, Sung Min; Na, Dong Hee; Jeong, Min Hye | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Chilgok Hosp, Colorectal Canc Ctr, Sch Med, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Chilgok Hosp, Colorectal Canc Ctr, 807 Hogukro, Daegu 41404, South Korea | Park, Joonhong/AAZ-9885-2020; Kim, Hye/W-1059-2019 | 57204567554; 8058759100; 57221771693; 35226761100; 40561578300; 55236751200; 57854200400; 57854899000 | hjinkim@knu.ac.kr;kyuschoi@knu.ac.kr;jojocrom@naver.com;parkjs0802@knu.ac.kr;psy-flower@daum.net;rhsm3814@gmail.com;nadonghee@naver.com;daring0102@hanmail.net; | SURGICAL LAPAROSCOPY ENDOSCOPY & PERCUTANEOUS TECHNIQUES | SURG LAPARO ENDO PER | 1530-4515 | 1534-4908 | 33 | 3 | SCIE | SURGERY | 2023 | 1.1 | 67.0 | 0.79 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 4 | robotic surgery; single-port (SP) robot; intersphincteric resection; low rectal cancer; sphincter-saving surgery | COLOANAL ANASTOMOSIS; ABDOMINAL APPROACH; SPHINCTER; EXCISION; OUTCOMES; SURGERY; MARGIN; 1ST | intersphincteric resection; low rectal cancer; robotic surgery; single-port (SP) robot; sphincter-saving surgery | Humans; Pelvis; Rectal Neoplasms; Retrospective Studies; Robotic Surgical Procedures; Robotics; antineoplastic agent; adult; aged; bladder catheterization; cancer combination chemotherapy; cancer patient; cancer surgery; chemoradiotherapy; clinical article; coloanal anastomosis; colon anastomosis; Conference Paper; consolidation chemotherapy; external anal sphincter; female; hospitalization; human; inferior mesenteric artery; intersphincteric resection; male; multiple cycle treatment; oncological parameters; operation duration; operative blood loss; postoperative complication; radical resection; rectum cancer; rectum resection; retrospective study; robot assisted surgery; short-course radiotherapy; single port robotic intersphincteric resection; surgical margin; total mesorectal excision; tumor height; urine retention; pathology; pelvis; procedures; rectum tumor; robotics | English | 2023 | 2023-06 | 10.1097/sle.0000000000001179 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Survival Outcomes After Double-Lung Transplantation for Refractory Lung-Limited Cancers and Incidence of Post-Transplant Lung Cancer | Background: To evaluate the role of double-lung transplantation (DLT) for lung cancer, the survival outcomes of patients who underwent DLT for lung cancer and the incidence of de novo lung cancer after DLT were assessed.Material/Methods: Data from all cases reported in the literature were pooled for analysis and additional data were collected from the Organ Procurement Transplantation Network (OPTN) registry. Recurrence-free survival (RFS), overall survival (OS), and cancer-specific survival (CSS) of patients who underwent DLT for lung cancer were determined. Moreover, the incidence of de novo lung cancer and associated OS in lung transplant recipients were examined. Results: Of the 20 cases series and 15 cases from the OPTN registry, the 5-year RFS was 55.0% and 66.7% and the 5-year OS was 55.0% and 26.7%, respectively, and the median CSS was 48.0 (range, 2.0-144.0) and 27.7 (range, 0.2-66.6) months, respectively. In the OPTN data, the incidence of post-transplant lung cancer in patients who underwent DLT for the non-cancerous disease was 0.8% and the 5-year OS was 47.3%.Conclusions: In conclusion, our integrated analysis of the case series and the OPTN registry demonstrated promising survival outcomes for patients with refractory bilateral lung cancer who underwent DLT. Although there are limitations to consider, the results of this study underscore the potential benefits of DLT in managing refractory lung-limited lung cancer. | Lee, Jeeyeon; Chuchuca, Maria Jose Aguilera; Yu, Jisang; Chung, Liam Il-Young; Bharat, Ankit; Chae, Young Kwang | Northwestern Univ, Feinberg Sch Med, Chicago, IL 60208 USA; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Chilgok Hosp, Sch Med, Daegu, South Korea | Chung, Liam Il-Young/IQU-0821-2023; Lee, Jong-Mok/KVY-9550-2024 | 37079213100; 58536910800; 58560944700; 58018988700; 8589657100; 55664764400 | ankit.bharat@nm.org;ychae@nm.org; | ANNALS OF TRANSPLANTATION | ANN TRANSPL | 1425-9524 | 28 | SCIE | SURGERY;TRANSPLANTATION | 2023 | 1.1 | 67.0 | 0.47 | 2025-06-25 | 3 | 2 | Lung Neoplasms; Lung Transplantation; Survival Analysis | BRONCHIOLOALVEOLAR CARCINOMA; INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY; ADULT LUNG; PULMONARY TRANSPLANTATION; HEART; RECURRENCE; REGISTRY; FOCUS | Lung Neoplasms; Lung Transplantation; Survival Analysis | Humans; Incidence; Lung; Lung Neoplasms; Lung Transplantation; Organ Transplantation; Retrospective Studies; Article; cancer specific survival; cancer survival; clinical trial (topic); double lung transplantation; human; lung cancer; lung transplantation; overall survival; recurrence free survival; smoking; systematic review; incidence; lung; lung tumor; organ transplantation; procedures; retrospective study | English | 2023 | 2023-12-05 | 10.12659/aot.941301 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Comparison of Light Utilization Efficiency in terms of the Planting Distance, Orientation, and Tree Height for a High-Density Apple Orchard | The Shadow patterns of various apple planting systems, and tree height are tracked using Sketch Up (Trimble, Inc. 3D Design software). A Model of a tall spindle established by combining planting distances applicable to Korea. The row orientation was set to four directions: N-S, NW-SE, NE-SW, and E-W. Each planting system simulated hours without sunlight-interference by the adjacent row and the sunlight-interference percentage in the canopy according to the adjacent tree during the growing season. The hours without sunlight-interference by adjacent rows on June 21 were N-S rows at 3.98 to 7.20 hours, NW-SE rows at 5.30 to 9.27 hours, NE-SW rows at 5.27 to 9.02 hours, and E-W rows at 10.38 to 11.78 hours. Sunlight-interference percentages in the morning and afternoon were as follows: N-S rows at 14.8% and 14.8%, NW-SE rows at 32.2% and 21.1%, NE-SW rows at 31.5% and 41.8%, and E-W rows at 53.6% and 50.4%, respectively. For the N-S rows, the overall growing season was favorable. E-W rows were unfavorable among row orientations due high interference level by adjacent trees. As the tree height increased from 2.5 to 5.0 m regardless of the row orientation, the hours without interference by adjacent trees decreased. However, an empirical test for light transmittance and radiation in the planting systems not considered in this study is additionally required. | Kim, Chung-Sil; Choi, Byeong-Ho; Jung, Young-Ju; Yoon, Tae-Myung | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Hort Sci, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 55840923100; 57212379669; 58452923600; 50263701700 | tmyoon@knu.ac.kr; | HORTICULTURAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | HORTIC SCI TECHNOL | 1226-8763 | 2465-8588 | 41 | 3 | SCIE | HORTICULTURE | 2023 | 1 | 67.1 | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 0 | light distribution; light interception; planting system; shadow pattern; simulation | FRUIT-QUALITY; CONSTANT RECTANGULARITY; VARYING DENSITY; TALL SPINDLE; INTERCEPTION; YIELD; SYSTEMS; GROWTH | light distribution; light interception; planting system; shadow pattern; simulation | English | 2023 | 2023 | 10.7235/hort.20230024 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Configuration of the Tree Shape in a Bi-axis Apple Orchard using 'Fuji'/M.9 Grafted Plants - Tree Growth and Productivity during Early Years According to the Planting Distance | This study was carried out in a bi-axis apple orchard with various planting distances (between-and within-row spacing at 3 mx1.5 m and 1.2 m, 1.0 m, 0.8 m, respectively) using 'Fuji'/M.9 grafts to manipulate the tree shape during the early years of the orchard's lifespan (up to four years after planting) and to compare tree growth outcomes and initial yields according to the planting distance. The configuration of a bi-axis tree shape with a narrow canopy width requires pinching of the shoots during the growing season, the removal of water sprouts or branches competing with the main stem after August, and the shortening of overly long/thick branches or renewal pruning in winter. In the early years of orchard establishment, vegetative growth decreased as the planting density increased, whereas the formation of spur-type fruit-bearing branches tended to increase. The light interception during the fourth year of planting was 37-42%, and there were no differences between the planting methods. The cumulative yields (kg/tree) were 8.7, 9.3, 9.9, and 10.3 at planting distances of 1.5 m, 1.2 m, 1.0 m, and 0.8 m, respectively. The yield increased with a decrease in the planting distance. In conclusion, the results here suggest that the bending of branches during the configuration of the tree shape in bi-axis orchards is not necessary. Until the fourth year of the establishment of the bi-axis apple orchard, with an increase in the planting density, the vegetative growth decreased, favoring fruit formation and an increased cumulative yield per tree. At a planting distance of 0.8 m, however, tree vigor was reduced slightly. | Choi, Byeong-Ho; Kim, Chung-Sil; Jeong, Young-Ju; Jeon, Jong-Hun; Shin, Bae-Yeon; Yoon, Tae-Myung | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Hort Sci, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 57212379669; 55840923100; 57222957464; 58687346500; 58688063900; 50263701700 | tmyoon@knu.ac.kr; | HORTICULTURAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | HORTIC SCI TECHNOL | 1226-8763 | 2465-8588 | 41 | 5 | SCIE | HORTICULTURE | 2023 | 1 | 67.1 | 0.2 | 2025-06-25 | 1 | 1 | fruit wall; Malus domestica; multi-leader system; rootstock; tree training; yield | FRUIT-QUALITY; LIGHT INTERCEPTION; TALL SPINDLE; LEAF-AREA; CROP LOAD; YIELD; DENSITY; SYSTEMS; GALA; SPUR | fruit wall; Malus domestica; multi-leader system; rootstock; tree training; yield | English | 2023 | 2023 | 10.7235/hort.20230048 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Effect of Fatty Alcohol and 6-Benzyladenine on Fruit Set and Fruit Quality of ?Fuji? Apples | This study was investigated the effect of fatty alcohol (FA) and 6-benzyladenine (6-BA) thinning treatments on the fruit set and fruit quality attributes of 'Fuji/M.9' apples. Trees were treated with FA (single, x500 dilution), FA (double), 6-BA (x1,000 dilution), 6-BA (x500 dilution), FA (single) + 6-BA (x1,000 dilution), FA (double) + 6-BA (x500 dilution), and carbaryl. FA (80.5% a.i.) treatment was applied at 80% blossom of terminal flowers and 60-80% blossom of lateral flowers, and 6-BA (7.4% a.i.) and carbaryl treatments were applied at 8-mm size of central fruit. The total fruit set rate per cluster was observed 61.0% for terminal flowers and 37.3% for lateral flowers in the control but it was decreased to 35.2-50.6% for terminal flowers and 9.7-23.8% for lateral flowers in the thinning treatments, respectively. The rate of central fruit per terminal flower cluster was observed 92.6% in the control but it was 65.2-94.4% in FA and 6-BA treatments. However, the rate of non-fruit set per terminal flower cluster was observed 2.9% in the control but it was increased to 7.5-14.2% in the thinning treatments, and the rate of one fruit set per terminal flower cluster was 14.1% in the control but it was increased to 20.6-33.9% in the thinning treatments. In addition, the rate of non-fruit set per lateral flower cluster was observed 19.6% in the control but it was decreased to 32.2-69.0% in the thinning treatments. The fruit quality attributes were not different in all treatment groups at harvest, except fruit weight. Therefore, our results reveal that FA and 6-BA treatments have the significant effects in reducing the fruit rate in 'Fuji' apple. | Shin, Hyun-Woo; Yoo, Jingi; Kim, Woo-Sung; Kwon, Jung-Geun; Win, Nay Myo; Kang, In-Kyu | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Hort Sci, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Washington State Univ, Tree Fruit Res & Extens Ctr, Wenatchee, WA 98801 USA; JahngRyu Ind Co Ltd, Cheongju 28101, Chungcheongbug, South Korea; Natl Inst Hort & Herbal Sci, Apple Res Inst, RDA, Gunwi 39000, South Korea | KIM, WOO-SUNG/AAL-7355-2020 | 58120203100; 56818324500; 57211404091; 57211404168; 42462548000; 56577308800 | kangik@knu.ac.kr; | HORTICULTURAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | HORTIC SCI TECHNOL | 1226-8763 | 2465-8588 | 41 | 1 | SCIE | HORTICULTURE | 2023 | 1 | 67.1 | 0.2 | 2025-06-25 | 1 | 1 | carbaryl; central fruit; fruit set ratio; lateral flower; terminal flower | CHEMICAL THINNER; AMMONIUM THIOSULFATE; LIME SULFUR; BENZYLADENINE; HONGRO; BLOOM; ATTRIBUTES; BLOSSOM; NAA | carbaryl; central fruit; fruit set ratio; lateral flower; terminal flower | English | 2023 | 2023 | 10.7235/hort.20230004 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Effects of Mechanical Flower Thinning on the Fruit Set and Fruit Quality Attributes of ?Hongro? Apples | 'Hongro' apple flowers were thinned with chemical (lime sulfur), low mechanical (200 rpm rotor speed, 4 km center dot h-1 tractor speed), high mechanical (300 rpm, 6 km center dot h-1), low mechanical (200 rpm, 4 km center dot h-1) + chemical, and high mechanical (300 rpm, 6 km center dot h-1) + chemical thinning treatments. Manual (hand) thinning served as a control. Most terminal and lateral flowers per cluster were removed by high mechanical thinning and the combination of this method with chemical thinning, compared to low mechanical thinning combined with chemical thinning. Additionally, the fruit set rate for both terminal and lateral flowers was mostly reduced when using the high mechanical + chemical thinning combination. However, a higher rotor speed during mechanical thinning increased the leaf damage rate compared to a lower rotor speed. Moreover, the high mechanical + chemical thinning combination improved flesh firmness, titratable acidity, and the soluble solid content in fruit at harvest compared to the control plants with low mechanical thinning combined with chemical thinning. The a* value (measured in fruit peel by CIE L* a* b* method) was highest when high mechanical thinning was used and lowest when chemical thinning was used. However, the fruit weight and size and the starch index were unaffected by all thinning treatments. Overall, the effects of mechanical thinning varied according to the rotor and tractor speed, and a high rotor speed (300 rpm) had a greater impact than a lower rotor speed (200 rpm). The highest thinning efficiency was achieved when using the high mechanical + chemical thinning combination, which improved the fruit quality of 'Hongro' apples. | Win, Nay Myo; Song, Yang-Yik; Nam, Jong-Chul; Cho, Young Sik; Yang, Sang-Jin; Yoo, Jingi; Kang, In-Kyu; Park, Juhyeon | Apple Res Inst, Natl Inst Hort & Herbal Sci, Gunwi 39000, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Hort Sci, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 42462548000; 56805474200; 50262425400; 55180565600; 57189060930; 56818324500; 56577308800; 57778292600 | wngus1113@korea.kr; | HORTICULTURAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | HORTIC SCI TECHNOL | 1226-8763 | 2465-8588 | 41 | 2 | SCIE | HORTICULTURE | 2023 | 1 | 67.1 | 0.4 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 2 | Additional key flesh firmness; fruit color; lateral flowers; terminal flowers; titratable acidity | RETURN BLOOM; YIELD; IMPROVES; GALA | Additional flesh firmness; fruit color; lateral flowers; terminal flowers; titratable acidity | English | 2023 | 2023 | 10.7235/hort.20230014 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Establishment of Proper Irrigation Method for Scion and Rootstock Production of Solanaceous Vegetables According to Water Use Efficiency in a Plant Factory with Artificial Lighting | A plant factory forms a closed ecosystem unaffected by external weather and can control environmental variables (temperature, relative humidity, light, etc.). Currently, plant factories equipped with artificial lighting are in the limelight as a means of sustainable agricultural development. However, the efficient irrigation method for seedling production needs to be improved in a closed-type cultivation system. A study was conducted to reveal the appropriate irrigation regime through a comparison of the growth of the seedlings and the water use efficiency when scions and rootstocks of tomato and hot pepper are cultivated in the plant factory with artificial lighting. Water treatment was set to 100% of the moisture content level of the plug tray's weight when each tray's topsoil was sufficiently wet, and irrigation was performed when the water content level reached 80%, 70%, 60%, and 50%. The dry matter production of tomato scions was the highest in the 70% treatment, and rootstocks were the highest in the 50% treatment. However, the water use efficiency of tomato scions and rootstocks was the highest in the 70% and 50% treatments, respectively. The dry matter production of hot pepper scions was the highest in the 50% and 70% treatments, and hot pepper rootstocks were the highest in the 80% treatment. The water use efficiency of hot pepper scions and rootstocks was the highest in the 50% treatment. This study confirmed that the seedling growth and water use efficiency were significantly affected by different irrigation regimes during the raising seedling period of tomatoes and hot peppers in the plant factory with artificial lighting. It is expected to reduce waste of water resources through proper irrigation. | Moon, Yu Hyun; Woo, Ui Jeong; Sim, Ha Seon; Lee, Tae Yeon; Shin, Ha Rang; An, Sewoong; Kim, Sung Kyeom; Jo, Jung Su | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Hort Sci, Grad Sch, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Korea Natl Univ Agr & Fisheries, Jeonju 54874, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Agr & Life Sci, Dept Hort Sci, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Chonnam Natl Univ, Coll Agr & Life Sci, Dept Hort, Gwangju 61186, South Korea | Kim, Sung Kyeom/AAD-9230-2019 | 57226272477; 57226269481; 57220890640; 58069843600; 58069726600; 57211403160; 50262290200; 59477458800 | jungsu@jnu.ac.kr; | HORTICULTURAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | HORTIC SCI TECHNOL | 1226-8763 | 2465-8588 | 41 | 6 | SCIE | HORTICULTURE | 2023 | 1 | 67.1 | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 0 | Capsicum annuum; grafted seedling; Solanum lycopersicum; vertical farm; water resource | GROWTH; QUALITY; YIELD | Capsicum annuum; grafted seedling; Solanum lycopersicum; vertical farm; water resource | English | 2023 | 2023 | 10.7235/hort.20230059 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Phenotypic Evaluation and Nuclear DNA Content Analysis of Oryzalin-Induced Echevena Mutant Cultivars | Succulent plants are in high demand in the floriculture industry owing to their peculiar leaf arrangement, water-efficient characteristics, and wide color variation. In particular, the succulent genus Echeveria is preferred by many plant collectors and hobbyists. Therefore, continuous breeding programs for these succulents are underway to produce novel cultivars with new features, leading to higher market prices. As opposed to conventional breeding, chemical mutagenesis can achieve this goal. The use of oryzalin, an anti-microtubule drug, is effective to induce plant mutations and less hazardous to human health. Thus, in earlier work, we explored the use of oryzalin to induce mutant Echeveria cultivars, specifically the 'Brave', 'Momotarou', and 'Sistar'. Briefly, different concentrations (0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8%, and 1.0%) and dipping durations (3, 6, 9, and 12 h) of oryzalin were employed for chemical mutagenesis. Oryzalin produced Echeveria mutants with fewer, larger, darker, and thicker leaves compared to control plants. A stomatal analysis revealed that the mutants exhibited larger but fewer stomata and a lower epidermal cell density, consistent with polyploidization. Future studies involving chromosome counting and flow cytometry of putative oryzalin-induced mutants and their next generations are warranted to identify whether these alternations are reversible. Our findings will be useful for the mutation breeding of closely related ornamentals or other potted plants and development of new cultivars with novel traits. | Cabahug-Braza, Raisa Aone; Ha Tran, My Khanh Thi; Lim, Ki-Byung; Hwang, Yoon-Jung | Sahmyook Univ, Plant Genet & Breeding Inst, Seoul 01795, South Korea; Sahmyook Univ, Dept Convergence Sci, Seoul 01795, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Hort Sci, Daegu 41566, South Korea | park, jun yeon/GPX-5293-2022 | 58453620000; 58033620800; 7403175915; 50061210800 | hyj@syu.ac.kr; | HORTICULTURAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | HORTIC SCI TECHNOL | 1226-8763 | 2465-8588 | 41 | 3 | SCIE | HORTICULTURE | 2023 | 1 | 67.1 | 0.4 | 2025-06-25 | 1 | 2 | Additional key chemical mutation; flow cytometry; mutation breeding; ornamentals; succulents | ORNAMENTAL ALOCASIA; COLCHICINE; INDUCTION; POLYPLOIDY; MICROTUBULES; TETRAPLOIDS | chemical mutation; flow cytometry; mutation breeding; ornamentals; succulents | English | 2023 | 2023 | 10.7235/hort.20230029 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Prediction of Fruit Maturity with Starch Pattern Index in Korean Apple Cultivars | This study was conducted to evaluate the starch loss pattern and to estimate the maturity indices and harvest time of the five Korean apple cultivars ('RubyS', 'Arisoo', 'Hwangok', 'Picnic', and 'Colorpple') in association with the changes of fruit quality attributes using a Cornell starch pattern index (SPI) analysis method (1-8 scores) and SPI chart development for domestic use. In 5 apple cultivars, the increase in SPI was directly related with the increase in fruit weight and soluble solids content and the decrease in flesh firmness and titratable acidity. For fruit peel coloration, the decrease in L* (indicator for brightness) and b* (indicator for yellowness) was strongly associated with the increase in SPI. In addition, the increase in a* (indicator for redness) was associated with the increase in SPI in all apple cultivars, except 'Hwangok', a yellow apple cultivar. A slight increase in internal ethylene concentration was also observed in all cultivars while the SPI was increased. Interestingly, the changes of SPI were different depending on each apple cultivar. Averagely, 'RubyS', 'Arisoo', 'Hwangok', and 'Picnic' apples took 3, 4, 5, and 7 days, and 7, 5, 7, and 7 days to change the SPI from 6 to 7 and from 7 to 8 scores, respectively. However, 'Colorpple' apple took about 10 days each to change the SPI from 6 to 7 and from 7 to 8 scores. Therefore, this study suggested that the development of SPI chart could be used as basic data to estimate the fruit maturity and harvest time of domestic apple cultivars. | Yoo, Jingi; Kwon, Jung-Geun; Kang, In-Kyu | Washington State Univ, Tree Fruit Res & Extens Ctr, Wenatchee, WA 98801 USA; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Hort Sci, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 56818324500; 57211404168; 56577308800 | kangik@knu.ac.kr; | HORTICULTURAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | HORTIC SCI TECHNOL | 1226-8763 | 2465-8588 | 41 | 1 | SCIE | HORTICULTURE | 2023 | 1 | 67.1 | 0.6 | 2025-06-25 | 3 | 3 | ethylene; fruit peel color; fruit quality attributes; harvest time; Malus domestica | 1-METHYLCYCLOPROPENE 1-MCP; QUALITY ATTRIBUTES; HARVEST DATE; STORAGE; ETHYLENE; BIOSYNTHESIS; FIRMNESS | ethylene; fruit peel color; fruit quality attributes; harvest time; Malus domestica | English | 2023 | 2023 | 10.7235/hort.20230003 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | Article | Predictors for elder mistreatment related to older adults and their primary caregivers | Objectives: To identify predictive factors for elder mistreatment (EM) related to older adults and their primary caregivers and the relationship between healthcare professional training and identification of EM. Methods: This was a quantitative and analytic study. Potential risk factors for EM related to 40 older adults and their caregivers were collected through observation by 12 healthcare professionals and in a visiting nurses association. Training of healthcare professionals on EM identification was investigated. Descriptive statistics, Fisher's exact test, and multilevel regression analysis were used to investigate the relationships between the occurrence of EM and older adults and caregiver-related risk factors, and the predictive factors for EM. Results: The older adults' dependency on caregivers and primary caregivers' chronic health conditions predicted EM. The risk factors the primary caregivers posed tended to affect EM more than the dependency older adults posed. The number of EM training the participants attended, their knowledge of who is responsible for reporting EM, the type of older adults' primary caregivers, and caregivers' chronic health condition were the correlating factors affecting EM. Conclusion: Victims' and perpetrators' descriptions of EM are difficult to gauge; therefore, the broader screening of healthcare professionals' views is recommended. Future nursing research should explore indirect interventions, such as manipulating the risk factors primary caregivers pose, to decrease the occurrence of EM. A subsequent study testing Path prediction models within a bigger and more controlled sample are also warranted. | Park, Esther; Lee, Kyeong Eun; Park, Da-In; Sinacori, Barbara | Shenandoah Univ, Winchester, VA 22601 USA; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Daegu, South Korea; Hannam Univ, Daejeon, South Korea; State Univ New Jersey, New Brunswick, NJ USA | esther.park@su.edu; | ACTA PAULISTA DE ENFERMAGEM | ACTA PAUL ENFERM | 0103-2100 | 1982-0194 | 36 | SCIE;SSCI | NURSING | 2023 | 1.1 | 67.1 | 0 | Aged; Elder abuse; Caregivers; Risk factors | ABUSE; CARE; RISK | English | 2023 | 2023 | 10.37689/acta-ape/2023ao0359332 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||||||||

| ○ | ○ | Review | A mini-review on innovative strategies for simultaneous microbial bioremediation of toxic heavy metals and dyes from wastewater | Bioremediation of heavy metals and dyes is one of the emerging techniques globally as it is evident from the numerous publications made by various research groups. Biofilm-assisted bioremediation is one of the trending approaches as it facilitates negatively charged extracellular polymeric substances which makes the bacteria resistant to the toxic chemicals. Genetic engineering of microbes will make them unique in the bioremediation process. This mini-review concentrates on source and toxic effects of heavy metals and dyes on aqueous and living beings. Further, the genetic improvement strategies for effective bioremediation are described. However, the gap between practicability and real-time applicability needs to test with real-time wastewater in the industrial scale. | Haripriyan, U.; Arun, J.; Gopinath, K. | ○ | ○ | Article | Pectobacterium jejuense sp. nov. Isolated from Cucumber Stem Tissue | A single Pectobacterium-like strain named 13-115(T) was isolated from a specimen of diseased cucumber stem tissue collected on Jeju Island, South Korea. The strain presented a rod-like shape and was negative for Gram staining. When grown on R2A medium at 25 & DEG;C, strain 13-115(T) formed round, convex and white colonies. This strain showed growth at temperatures ranging from 10 to 30 & DEG;C and tolerated a pH range of 6-9. The strain could also tolerate NaCl concentrations up to 5%. Analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that strain 13-115(T) exhibited similarity of over 99% with Pectobacterium brasiliense, P. carotovorum, P. polaris, and P. parvum. By conducting multilocus sequence analyses using dnaX, leuS, and recA genes, a separate phylogenetic lineage was discovered between strain 13-115(T) and other members of the genus Pectobacterium. Moreover, the strain showed relatively low in silico DNA-DNA hybridization (<60.6%) and average nucleotide identity (ANI) (<94.9%) values with recognized Pectobacterium species. The isolate has a genome size of 5,069,478 bp and a genomic G + C content of 52.04 mol%. Major fatty acids identified in the strain included C-16:0 (28.99%), summed feature 3 (C-16:1 & omega;7c and/or C-16:1 & omega;6c; 28.85%), and C-18:1 & omega;7c (19.01%). Pathogenicity assay confirmed that the novel strain induced soft rot symptoms in cucumber plants and Koch's postulates were fulfilled. Molecular analysis and phenotypic data indicated that strain 13-115(T) could be classified as a new species within the Pectobacterium genus, which has been named Pectobacterium jejuense. The type strain is 13-115(T) (= KCTC 92800(T) = JCM 35940(T)). | Hong, Soo-Min; Ten, Leonid N.
