| ○ | ○ | Article | Reconstruction of an upper lip vermilion defect with a mucosal V-Y advancement flap: a case report | The upper lip is a functionally and aesthetically important area of the face. Therefore, reconstruction of an upper lip defect needs sufficient consider-ation to ensure functional and aesthetic recovery. Several methods, such as wedge resection, rotation flaps, advancement flaps, and myomucosal ad-vancement flaps, have been used to reconstruct vermilion defects. However, it is challenging to reconstruct a vermilion defect because of the possibility of residual asymmetry or scars and restrictions to normal lip movement after the reconstruction. We present the case of a 51-year-old female that had an upper lip vermilion defect caused by a dog bite. The lip defect was reconstructed using a mucosal V-Y advancement flap. This mucosal flap was based on the orbicularis oris muscle with a branch of the superior labial artery to ensure sufficient blood supply. Therefore, flap survival was excellent, and there was no constriction of the flaps. Moreover, the color and contour were matched to the adjacent lip tissue, and re-establishment of the white roll and adequate lip volume were achieved. This mucosal V-Y advancement flap technique represents a reliable method to repair mucosal defects without vascular compromise of the flap | Shim, Gyu-Jo; Yoon, Hyun-Woo; Kim, Dohyoung; Kwon, Tae-Geon | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Dent, Dept Oral & Maxillofacial Surg, 2177 Dalgubeol Daero, Daegu 41940, South Korea | 57653519600; 59316625200; 59510718400; 35205433300 | kwondk@knu.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN ASSOCIATION OF ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGEONS | J KOR ASSOC ORAL MAX | 2234-7550 | 2234-5930 | 50 | 4 | ESCI | DENTISTRY, ORAL SURGERY & MEDICINE | 2024 | 1.4 | 65.1 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | 0 | Lip; Mouth mucosa; Myocutaneous flap; Reconstructive surgical procedures | Lip; Mouth mucosa; Myocutaneous flap; Reconstructive surgical procedures | antibiotic agent; diphtheria tetanus vaccine; tetanus antibody; adult; antibiotic prophylaxis; artery; Article; case report; clinical article; color; debridement; dissection; dog bite; female; follow up; general anesthesia; graft survival; human; incision; infection prevention; lip disease; lip reconstruction; lip volume; middle aged; mouth mucosa; orbicularis oris muscle; secondary infection; superior labial artery; systemic circulation; tetanus prophylaxis; tissue flap; upper lip; v y advancement flap; vascularization; volume; wedge resection; wound healing | English | 2024 | 2024-08 | 10.5125/jkaoms.2024.50.4.222 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Ultrasound-guided intraoral botulinum toxin injection into the lateral pterygoid muscle for chronic temporomandibular joint dislocation | Objectives: Botulinum toxin type A (BTX), a powerful neurotoxin, can be an effective treatment choice for diverse muscular disorders and can reduce abnormal muscle activities. Abnormal movements of the mandible can be caused by involuntary and uncontrolled contractions of the lateral pterygoid muscle (LP) in various pathological situations. Previous reports have shown that BTX can reduce abnormal contractions of the LP. However, needle placement into the LP for BTX injection requires skill, experience, and sufficient anatomical knowledge. To place the needle precisely into the LP, ultrasonography (USG) can be used as an effective needle-guidance modality. USG is a non-invasive imaging modality able to create real-time images without any potential risks, including radiation exposure. Patients and Methods: The patients who had been performed USG-guided BTX injection into the LP using an intraoral approach were included in this study with a literature review and case presentations. Using the USG, four patients received BTX injections to treat recurrent temporomandibular dislocation and oromandibular dystonia resulting from involuntary LP activity. Result: Involuntary movements of the mandible were improved successfully in all patients, and showed satisfactory results without significant complication. Conclusion: The intraoral approach could prevent potential complications during needle placement. USG-guided BTX injection is an effective, convenient, and safe method that provides real-time imaging without unnecessary pain to the patient. | Lee, Sung-Tak; Kim, Dohyoung; Park, Jae-Hyeong; Kwon, Tae-Geon | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Dent, Dept Oral & Maxillofacial Surg, 2177 Dalgubeol daero, Daegu 41940, South Korea | 55931708300; 58582057800; 57220738345; 35205433300 | kwondk@knu.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN ASSOCIATION OF ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGEONS | J KOR ASSOC ORAL MAX | 2234-7550 | 2234-5930 | 50 | 1 | ESCI | DENTISTRY, ORAL SURGERY & MEDICINE | 2024 | 1.4 | 65.1 | 1.02 | 2025-04-16 | 4 | 2 | Botulinum toxin type A; Temporomandibular joint disorders; Ultrasonography; Pterygoid muscles | OROMANDIBULAR DYSTONIA | Botulinum toxin type A; Pterygoid muscles; Temporomandibular joint disorders; Ultrasonography | alprazolam; baclofen; botulinum toxin A; carbamazepine; clonazepam; wondertox; adult; aged; Article; behavior control; blepharospasm; case report; chondromatosis; clinical article; conservative treatment; degenerative disease; dementia; digastric muscle; echography; female; follow up; human; human tissue; involuntary movement; joint dislocation; lateral pterygoid muscle; male; mandible; mastication; Meige syndrome; middle aged; muscle contraction; oromandibular dystonia; Parkinson disease; physical disability; pterygoid muscle; temporomandibular joint disorder; tongue muscle; traffic accident; very elderly; young adult | English | 2024 | 2024-02 | 10.5125/jkaoms.2024.50.1.41 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Deep learning-guided video compression for machine vision tasks | In the video compression industry, video compression tailored to machine vision tasks has recently emerged as a critical area of focus. Given the unique characteristics of machine vision, the current practice of directly employing conventional codecs reveals inefficiency, which requires compressing unnecessary regions. In this paper, we propose a framework that more aptly encodes video regions distinguished by machine vision to enhance coding efficiency. For that, the proposed framework consists of deep learning-based adaptive switch networks that guide the efficient coding tool for video encoding. Through the experiments, it is demonstrated that the proposed framework has superiority over the latest standardization project, video coding for machine benchmark, which achieves a Bjontegaard delta (BD)-rate gain of 5.91% on average and reaches up to a 19.51% BD-rate gain. | Kim, Aro; Woo, Seung-taek; Park, Minho; Kim, Dong-hwi; Lim, Hanshin; Jung, Soon-heung; Kwak, Sangwoon; Park, Sang-hyo | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Comp Sci & Engn, Daegu, South Korea; Elect & Telecommun Res Inst, Media Res Div, Daejeon, South Korea | Park, Sang-hyo/W-9343-2019 | 59866700600; 59195880500; 57194724289; 58556778700; 21834263600; 14522504800; 57189231096; 55362514700 | s.park@knu.ac.kr; | EURASIP JOURNAL ON IMAGE AND VIDEO PROCESSING | EURASIP J IMAGE VIDE | 1687-5176 | 1687-5281 | 2024 | 1 | SCIE | ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;IMAGING SCIENCE & PHOTOGRAPHIC TECHNOLOGY | 2024 | 1.8 | 65.2 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | 0 | Video compression; Video coding for machines; Deep learning | Deep learning; Video coding for machines; Video compression | Deep learning; Image coding; Image compression; Video signal processing; Coding efficiency; Coding tools; Current practices; Deep learning; Machine-vision; Switch network; Video coding for machine; Video encodings; Machine vision | English | 2024 | 2024-09-20 | 10.1186/s13640-024-00649-w | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Implementation of a Virtual Assistant System Based on Deep Multi-modal Data Integration | In this study, we propose a virtual assistant system that is applied to real life using signal processing and deep learning. First, the overall structure of the proposed system that integrates and controls various modules is introduced, after which we present a multi-modal fusion module that provides services to users. It integrates a natural language processing module for interpreting Korean chatbots and a behavior recognition module for understanding user behavior using an RGB camera. In addition, a hand gesture recognition module was utilized to understand the user's intentions using depth and RGB images. We explain the implementation of a customized service system with several parts: i) a user interface module that interacts with the user, ii) a face recognition module that distinguishes different users, and iii) a voice processing module that can replace the input and output methods through a keyboard and monitor. To check the performance of each module, a testbed was configured in an office environment. Through test results, we successfully demonstrate the realization of the proposed system in real life Finally, we list the challenges discovered during the operation of this system and suggest directions for further research. | Baek, Sungdae; Kim, Jonghong; Lee, Junwon; Lee, Minho | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Keimyung Univ, Dongsan Med Ctr, Dept Res, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Grad Sch Artificial Intelligence, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Lee, Min-Ho/ABE-5735-2021 | 58064927200; 57022250500; 57641592200; 57191730119 | scar9cube@gmail.com;jonghong89@gmail.com;zini9405@gmail.com;mholee@gmail.com; | JOURNAL OF SIGNAL PROCESSING SYSTEMS FOR SIGNAL IMAGE AND VIDEO TECHNOLOGY | J SIGNAL PROCESS SYS | 1939-8018 | 1939-8115 | 96 | 3 | SCIE | ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;COMPUTER SCIENCE, INFORMATION SYSTEMS | 2024 | 1.8 | 65.2 | 0.38 | 2025-05-07 | 2 | 1 | Integrated system; Transfer learning; Natural language processing; Image processing; Action recognition; Gesture recognition | CONVOLUTIONAL NEURAL-NETWORK; RECOGNITION; ATTENTION | Action recognition; Gesture recognition; Image processing; Integrated system; Natural language processing; Transfer learning | Data integration; E-learning; Face recognition; Gesture recognition; Learning systems; Modal analysis; Natural language processing systems; User interfaces; Action recognition; Gestures recognition; Images processing; Integrated systems; Language processing; Natural language processing; Natural languages; Processing modules; Transfer learning; Virtual assistants; Deep learning | English | 2024 | 2024-03 | 10.1007/s11265-022-01829-5 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Interplay of a unit-speed constraint and time-delay in the flocking model with internal variables | We studied the dynamics of thermodynamic Cucker-Smale (TCS) particles moving with a constant speed constraint. The TCS model describes the collective dynamics of the population of birds with a time varying internal variable, and it was first introduced as the generalization of the Cucker-Smale (CS) model. In this paper, we considered a modification of the TCS model in which each agent moves at a constant speed, such as the Vicsek model, and we additionally considered the effect of time-delays due to the finiteness of the information propagation speed between agents. Then, we presented several sufficient conditions in terms of initial data and system parameters to exhibit asymptotic flocking. We presented two kinds of results for this purpose. One was an estimate of the diameter of the velocity and temperature configuration, and the other was an estimate of the diameter of the configuration within the time-delay bound tau . | Ahn, Hyunjin; Shim, Woojoo | Myongji Univ, Dept Data Technol, Seoul 03674, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Math Educ, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 57222812591; 57204943631 | wjshim@knu.ac.kr; | NETWORKS AND HETEROGENEOUS MEDIA | NETW HETEROG MEDIA | 1556-1801 | 19 | 3 | SCIE | MATHEMATICS, INTERDISCIPLINARY APPLICATIONS | 2024 | 1.3 | 65.8 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | 0 | Cucker-Smale; flocking; multi-agent system; thermodynamic; time-delay effect; unit-speed constraint | CUCKER-SMALE MODEL; ASYMPTOTIC FLOCKING; EMERGENT BEHAVIOR; SYSTEM; SYNCHRONIZATION; POPULATIONS; DYNAMICS; KURAMOTO; ONSET | Cucker-Smale; flocking; multi-agent system; thermodynamic; time-delay effect; unit-speed constraint | Thermodynamic properties; Constant speed; Cucke-smale; Flocking; Internal variables; Multiagent systems (MASs); Smale model; Speed constraints; Time-delay effect; Time-delays; Unit-speed constraint; Time varying systems | English | 2024 | 2024 | 10.3934/nhm.2024052 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Association of human papillomavirus 16 and 18 with ovarian cancer risk: Insights from a meta-analysis | Ovarian cancer (OC) presents a global health challenge, with well-documented genetic aspects. However, to the best of our knowledge, the role of human papillomavirus (HPV) types 16 and 18 in OC remains unclear. The present meta-analysis assessed the prevalence of HPV in OC across 43 studies and included a comparative meta-analysis of 19 case-control studies to determine the association of HPV with OC risk. Subgroup analyses were performed based on geographic regions and histopathological types to explore heterogeneity, and publication bias was evaluated using funnel plots and statistical tests of asymmetry. The pooled prevalence of HPV was found to be 10% (95% CI, 5-18) and 7% (95% CI, 3-15) specifically for HPV 16/18. Case-control studies indicated an odds ratio (OR) of 4.92 (95% CI, 1.96-12.53) for HPV 16/18, with higher pooled prevalence rates of 17% for all HPV genotypes and 13% for HPV 16/18. Notably, Asian countries exhibited the highest HPV prevalence and OR in OC. These findings support the involvement of HPV, particularly HPV 16 and 18, in increasing the risk of OC, emphasizing the need for further research to confirm these associations and explore potential mechanisms. | Le, Tan Minh; Nguyen, Hong Duc Thi; Cho, Junghwan; Park, Nora Jee-Young; Han, Hyung Soo; Chong, Gun Oh; Seo, Incheol | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Grad Sch, Dept Biomed Sci, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Clin Om Inst, Daegu 41405, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Chilgok Hosp, Dept Pathol, Daegu 41404, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Physiol, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Chilgok Hosp, Dept Obstet & Gynecol, 807 Hoguk ro, Daegu 41404, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Immunol, 680 Gukchaebosang ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea | Le, Tan/ITT-2150-2023 | 57870749600; 57870555300; 57424663500; 57226185359; 7401969388; 23099068000; 56022683900 | gochong@knu.ac.kr;iseo@knu.ac.kr; | ONCOLOGY LETTERS | ONCOL LETT | 1792-1074 | 1792-1082 | 28 | 6 | SCIE | ONCOLOGY | 2024 | 2.2 | 66.1 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 1 | 1 | ovarian neoplasms; HPV 16; HPV 18; meta-analysis | MALIGNANT OVARIAN; SEROUS CARCINOMA; DNA; P53; HPV; ADENOCARCINOMAS; EXPRESSION; NEOPLASMS; INFECTION; ABSENCE | HPV 16; HPV 18; meta-analysis; ovarian neoplasms | Article; cancer risk; genotype; human; Human papillomavirus type 16; Human papillomavirus type 18; meta analysis; ovary cancer; ovary tumor; prevalence; risk factor | English | 2024 | 2024-12 | 10.3892/ol.2024.14689 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Hypofractionated radiation therapy combined with androgen deprivation therapy for clinically node-positive prostate cancer | Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the treatment outcomes of combined definitive radiation therapy (RT) and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for clinically node-positive prostate cancer. Materials and Methods: Medical records of 60 patients with clinically suspected metastatic lymph nodes on radiological examination were retrospectively analyzed. Eight patients (13.3%) were suspected to have metastatic common iliac or para-aortic lymph nodes. All patients underwent definitive RT with a dose fractionation of 70 Gy in 28 fractions. ADT was initiated 2-3 months before RT and continued for at least 2 years. Biochemical failure rate (BFR), clinical failure rate (CFR), overall survival (OS), and prostate cancer-specific survival (PCSS) were calculated, and genitourinary and gastrointestinal adverse events were recorded. Results: The median follow-up period was 5.47 years. The 5-year BFR, CFR, OS, and PCSS rates were 19.1%, 11.3%, 89.0%, and 98.2%, respectively. The median duration of ADT was 2.30 years. BFR and CFR increased after 3 years, and 11 out of 14 biochemical failures occurred after the cessation of ADT. Grade 2 and beyond late genitourinary and gastrointestinal toxicity rates were 5.0% and 13.3%, respectively. However, only two grade 3 adverse events were reported, and no grade 4-5 adverse events were reported. Patients with non-regional lymph node metastases did not have worse BFR, CFR, or adverse event rates. Conclusion: This study reported the efficacy and tolerable toxicity of hypofractionated definitive RT combined with ADT for clinically node-positive prostate cancer. Additionally, selected patients with adjacent non-regional lymph node metastases might be able to undergo definitive RT combined with ADT. | Lee, Tae Hoon; Pyo, Hongryull; Yoo, Gyu Sang; Jeon, Seong Soo; Seo, Seong Il; Jeong, Byong Chang; Jeon, Hwang Gyun; Sung, Hyun Hwan; Kang, Minyong; Song, Wan; Chung, Jae Hoon; Bae, Bong Kyung; Park, Won | Sungkyunkwan Univ, Sch Med, Samsung Med Ctr, Dept Radiat Oncol, 81 Irwon Ro, Seoul 06351, South Korea; Chungbuk Natl Univ Hosp, Dept Radiat Oncol, Cheongju, South Korea; Sungkyunkwan Univ, Sch Med, Samsung Med Ctr, Dept Urol, Seoul, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Radiat Oncol, Chilgok Hosp, Daegu, South Korea | Lee, Tae/B-1160-2013; Yoo, Gyu Sang/IUP-1304-2023; 서, 성일/HPD-3967-2023; sung, hh/O-6246-2014 | 57216507584; 55655325100; 57060003400; 7203005276; 7202469835; 7102237943; 7201833627; 16203908200; 23489077600; 56079751200; 59674240400; 57191481610; 55663053400 | wonro.park@samsung.com; | RADIATION ONCOLOGY JOURNAL | RADIAT ONCOL J | 2234-3156 | 42 | 2 | ESCI | ONCOLOGY | 2024 | 2.2 | 66.1 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 1 | 1 | Prostatic neoplasms; Lymph nodes; Radiotherapy; Androgen suppression | HIGH-DOSE RADIOTHERAPY; INTERMITTENT; CONSENSUS; SURVIVAL | Androgen suppression; Lymph nodes; Prostatic neoplasms; Radiotherapy | androgen; adult; aged; androgen deprivation therapy; angiodysplasia; Article; Biochemical failure rate; bone scintiscanning; cancer specific survival; clinical examination; clinical failure rate; computer assisted tomography; follow up; hematochezia; human; hypofractionated radiotherapy; intensity modulated radiation therapy; lymph node metastasis; major clinical study; male; nuclear magnetic resonance imaging; overall survival; paraaortic lymph node; photon therapy; planning target volume; prostate cancer; radiation dose fractionation; retrospective study; sigmoidoscopy; treatment outcome | English | 2024 | 2024-06 | 10.3857/roj.2024.00080 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Transcriptomic analysis reveals Streptococcus agalactiae activation of oncogenic pathways in cervical adenocarcinoma | Cervical adenocarcinoma (AC), a subtype of uterine cervical cancer (CC), poses a challenge due to its resistance to therapy and poor prognosis compared with squamous cervical carcinoma. Streptococcus agalactiae [group B Streptococcus (GBS)], a Gram-positive coccus, has been associated with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia in CC. However, the underlying mechanism interaction between GBS and CC, particularly AC, remains elusive. Leveraging The Cancer Genome Atlas public data and time-series transcriptomic data, the present study investigated the interaction between GBS and AC, revealing activation of two pivotal pathways: 'MAPK signaling pathway' and 'mTORC1 signaling'. Western blotting, reverse transcription-quantitative PCR and cell viability assays were performed to validate the activation of these pathways and their role in promoting cancer cell proliferation. Subsequently, the present study evaluated the efficacy of two anticancer drugs targeting these pathways (binimetinib and ridaforolimus) in AC cell treatment. Binimetinib demonstrated a cytostatic effect, while ridaforolimus had a modest impact on HeLa cells after 48 h of treatment, as observed in both cell viability and cytotoxicity assays. The combination of binimetinib and ridaforolimus resulted in a significantly greater cytotoxic effect compared to binimetinib or ridaforolimus monotherapy, although the synergy score indicated an additive effect. In general, the MAPK and mTORC1 signaling pathways were identified as the main pathways associated with GBS and AC cells. The combination of binimetinib and ridaforolimus could be a potential AC treatment. | Nguyen, Hong Duc Thi; Le, Tan Minh; Jung, Da-Ryung; Jo, Youngjae; Choi, Yeseul; Lee, Donghyeon; Lee, Olive Em; Cho, Junghwan; Park, Nora Jee-Young; Seo, Incheol; Chong, Gun Oh; Shin, Jae-Ho; Han, Hyung Soo | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Grad Sch, Dept Biomed Sci, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Appl Biosci, 80 Daehak Ro, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Clin Om Inst, Daegu 41405, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Pathol, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Chilgok Hosp, Dept Pathol, Daegu 41404, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Immunol, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Obstet & Gynecol, Daegu 41404, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Chilgok Hosp, Dept Obstet & Gynecol, Daegu 41404, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Integrat Biotechnol, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Next Generat Sequencing Core Facil, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Physiol, 680 Gukchaebosang Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea | 57870555300; 57870749600; 57221116102; 57214743390; 57226123444; 57870503500; 58029901300; 57424663500; 57226185359; 56022683900; 23099068000; 57224125922; 7401969388 | jhshin@knu.ac.kr;hshan@knu.ac.kr; | ONCOLOGY LETTERS | ONCOL LETT | 1792-1074 | 1792-1082 | 28 | 6 | SCIE | ONCOLOGY | 2024 | 2.2 | 66.1 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | 0 | cervical adenocarcinoma; drug repurposing; signaling pathway; Streptococcus agalactiae; transcriptomic time-series analysis | MTOR SIGNALING PATHWAY; CONNECTIVITY MAP; CANCER; PROTEIN; CELLS; HELA; PHOSPHORYLATION; SIGNATURES; SURVIVAL; INVASION | cervical adenocarcinoma; drug repurposing; signaling pathway; Streptococcus agalactiae; transcriptomic time‑series analysis | binimetinib; cyclin dependent kinase 1; fibroblast growth factor 21; glutathione; ridaforolimus; apoptosis; apoptosis assay; Article; bioinformatics; cell proliferation; cell proliferation assay; cell viability; chemoluminescence; cytotoxicity; gene expression; human; human cell; immune response; MAPK signaling; metagenomics; microarray analysis; principal component analysis; protein expression; protein phosphorylation; protein protein interaction; RNA isolation; signal transduction; Streptococcus agalactiae; uterine cervix cancer; uterine cervix carcinoma; Western blotting | English | 2024 | 2024-12 | 10.3892/ol.2024.14720 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | Article | Effect of horizontal and radial airflow fans on the microclimate of single-span greenhouses and their yield | The present study evaluated and compared the distribution patterns of microclimatic parameters within greenhouses to provide insights into optimizing growing conditions and maximizing crop productivity. Experiments were conducted from January to March 2023 at Sangju Smart Farm Innovation Valley, Sangju-si, South Korea, in two adjacent greenhouses covered with two polyolefin layers and a thermal screen layer. The distinctive design of the radial airflow fan connecting to the external environment and ability to uniformly blend air, demonstrated superior performance than the horizontal air flow fan. The adoption of radial airflow fans could greatly influence commercial production by enhancing the distribution of microclimate variables, resulting in improved greenhouse efficiency and ultimately leading to increased crop yields. | Dutta, Prabhat; Akpenpuun, Timothy denen; Na, Wook-ho; Ogunlowo, Qazeem opeyemi; Rabiu, Anis; Adesanya, Misbaudeen aderemi; Ogundele, Oluwasegun moses; Zakir, Ezatullah; Kim, Hyeon-tae; Lee, Hyun-woo | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Agr & Life Sci, Daegu, South Korea; Univ Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Smart Agr Innovat Ctr, Daegu, South Korea; Fed Coll Agr, Moor Plantat,PMB 5029, Ibadan, Nigeria; Int Inst Trop Agr, Ibadan, Nigeria; Gyeongsang Natl Univ, Jinju, South Korea | ; RABIU, Anis/JXO-1947-2024; OGUNLOWO, QAZEEM/ABB-5386-2021; Akpenpuun, Timothy/AAE-1168-2020; Adesanya, Misbaudeen/AAA-4664-2022 | whlee@knu.ac.kr; | INDIAN JOURNAL OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES | INDIAN J AGR SCI | 0019-5022 | 2394-3319 | 94 | 2 | SCIE | AGRICULTURE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY | 2024 | 0.7 | 66.5 | 0 | Horizontal airflow fan; Microclimate; Radial airflow fan; Ventilation | STRAWBERRY PRODUCTION; FRUIT YIELD; GROWTH; LIGHT | English | 2024 | 2024-02 | 10.56093/ijas.v94i2.142898 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Genetic and Phenotypic Diversity of Listeria monocytogenes in Pig Slaughterhouses in Korea | Listeria monocytogenes is a foodborne pathogen that has variable subtypes associated with human listeriosis and occurs in food and processing environments. This study was conducted to provide the genetic and phenotypic characterization of L. monocytogenes in pig carcasses and environments of slaughterhouses in Korea. A total of 22 L. monocytogenes were isolated from eight of 26 pig slaughterhouses between 2020 and 2022, and the most common serotype was 1/2c (40.9%), followed by serotypes 1/2b (31.8%) and 1/2a (27.3%). The isolates showed a significantly high prevalence of virulence genes located in Listeria pathogenicity island-1 (LIPI-1) and internalins (90.9-100%; p < 0.05). However, the prevalence rates of llsX, ptsA, and stress survival islet-1 (SSI-1) located in LIPI-3, LIPI-4, and SSI were only 9.1%, 22.7%, and 31.8%, respectively. In addition, among the epidemic clones (EC), ECI, ECII, ECIII, and ECV, only one isolate was represented as ECV. Isolates identified from the same slaughterhouses were divided into two or more pulsotypes, except for two slaughterhouses. Furthermore, the seven STs were classified into seven clonal complexes (CCs) (CC8, CC9, CC37, CC87, CC121, CC155, and CC288), and all CCs belonged to lineages I (31.8%) and II (68.1%). Interestingly, the isolates showed a high prevalence of oxacillin resistance (59.1%), and most isolates of the serotypes 1/2a and 1/2b exhibited oxacillin resistance, whereas only one of nine serotype 1/2c isolates exhibited oxacillin resistance. These results provide the genetic diversity of L. monocytogenes in pig carcasses and environments of slaughterhouses, and continuous monitoring will be helpful in predicting food safety risks. | Hong, Serim; Moon, Jin-San; Yoon, Soon-Seek; Kim, Ha-Young; Lee, Young Ju | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Zoonoses Res Inst, Coll Vet Med, 80 Daehak Ro, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Anim & Plant Quarantine Agcy, Bacterial Dis Div, 177 Hyeoksin 8 Ro, Gimcheon 39660, Gyeongsangbuk D, South Korea | 58193736900; 57212516440; 9838890500; 53877655700; 56612134500 | kimhy@korea.kr;youngju@knu.ac.kr; | FOODBORNE PATHOGENS AND DISEASE | FOODBORNE PATHOG DIS | 1535-3141 | 1556-7125 | 21 | 1 | SCIE | FOOD SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | 2024 | 1.9 | 66.6 | 0.68 | 2025-04-16 | 1 | 1 | Listeria monocytogenes; characterization; pigs; carcass; environment; slaughterhouse | ANTIBIOTIC-RESISTANCE; EPIDEMIC CLONES; MULTIPLEX PCR; VIRULENCE; PREVALENCE; CARCASSES; STRAINS; GROWTH | carcass; characterization; environment; Listeria monocytogenes; pigs; slaughterhouse | Abattoirs; Animals; Food Microbiology; Humans; Listeria monocytogenes; Listeriosis; Oxacillin; Republic of Korea; Swine; ampicillin; chloramphenicol; ciprofloxacin; clindamycin; cotrimoxazole; dalfopristin plus quinupristin; daptomycin; erythromycin; gentamicin; levofloxacin; linezolid; moxifloxacin; nitrofurantoin; oxacillin; rifampicin; tetracycline; vancomycin; abattoir worker; Article; bacterial virulence; bacterium isolate; carcass; controlled study; epidemic; food safety; Korea; Listeria monocytogenes; molecular phylogeny; multilocus sequence typing; nonhuman; phenotype; pig; polymerase chain reaction; prevalence; serotype; slaughterhouse; surface area; animal; food control; genetics; human; listeriosis; pig; slaughterhouse; South Korea | English | 2024 | 2024-01-01 | 10.1089/fpd.2023.0053 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Therapeutic Phage Candidates for Targeting Prevalent Sequence Types of Carbapenem-Resistant Escherichia coli | Carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli (CREC) is a global threat to public health; therefore, alternative treatment options are urgently needed. Bacteriophages have emerged as promising candidates for combating CREC infections. This study aimed to investigate the genetic basis of phage sensitivity in CREC by evaluating carbapenem resistance among multidrug-resistant (MDR) E. coli isolated in Daegu, South Korea and analyzing their sequence types (STs) with phage susceptibility spectra. Among the 60 MDR E. coli isolates, 80.4% were identified as CREC, with 77.0% demonstrating resistance to imipenem and 66.6% to meropenem. Moreover, 70 lytic E. coli bacteriophages were isolated from hospital sewage water and evaluated against those 60 E. coli isolates. The phages exhibited lytic activity of 33%-60%, with average titers ranging from 5.6 x 10(12) to 2.4 x 10(13) PFU/mL (Plaque-Forming Unit). Furthermore, multilocus sequence typing (MLST) analysis of the bacterial isolates revealed 14 distinct STs, mostly belonging to ST131, ST410, and ST648. Notably, the phage susceptibility spectra of ST73, ST13003, ST648, ST2311, ST167, ST405, ST607, ST7962, and ST131 were significantly different. Thus, the isolated phages can effectively lyse CREC isolates, particularly those with clinically dominant STs. Conversely, ST410 exhibited a 14.2%-87.14% susceptibility spectrum, whereas ST1139, ST1487, ST10, and ST206 did not lyse, suggesting the presence of more resistant STs. Future studies are warranted to identify the reasons behind this resistance and address it. Ultimately, this study will aid in developing focused treatments to address these pressing global health issues. | Shamsuzzamn, Md; Kim, Shukho; Choi, Yoon-Jung; Kim, Bokyung; Dahal, Ram Hari; Shin, Minsang; Kim, Jungmin | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Biomed Sci, ADD 41944,680 Gukchaebosang Ro, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Microbiol, Daegu, South Korea | Dahal, Ram Hari/H-8673-2016 | 59418389800; 24341187900; 57220082311; 59234802100; 57110097800; 7401536650; 57211297681 | minkim@knu.ac.kr; | FOODBORNE PATHOGENS AND DISEASE | FOODBORNE PATHOG DIS | 1535-3141 | 1556-7125 | 21 | 11 | SCIE | FOOD SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | 2024 | 1.9 | 66.6 | 0.61 | 2025-05-07 | 3 | 3 | Escherichia coli; carbapenem resistance; bacteriophages; multilocus sequence typing; ST131 and ST410 | BACTERIOPHAGES; MULTICENTER | bacteriophages; carbapenem resistance; Escherichia coli; multilocus sequence typing; ST131; ST410 | Anti-Bacterial Agents; Bacteriophages; Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae; Carbapenems; Coliphages; Drug Resistance, Multiple, Bacterial; Escherichia coli; Escherichia coli Infections; Humans; Imipenem; Meropenem; Microbial Sensitivity Tests; Multilocus Sequence Typing; Phage Therapy; Republic of Korea; Sewage; amikacin; amoxicillin; ampicillin; aztreonam; cefazolin; cefepime; cefotaxime; cefoxitin; ceftazidime; ceftriaxone; ciprofloxacin; gentamicin; imipenem; linezolid; meropenem; piperacillin; tetracycline; tobramycin; trimethoprim; antiinfective agent; carbapenem derivative; imipenem; meropenem; antibiotic resistance; antibiotic sensitivity; Article; bacterial genetics; bacteriolysis; bacteriophage; bacteriophage plaque; bacterium isolate; bacterium isolation; carbapenem resistance; carbapenem resistant Escherichia coli; controlled study; Escherichia coli phage; hospital wastewater; host range; multidrug resistant Escherichia coli; multilocus sequence typing; nonhuman; phage therapy; phage titer; plaque forming unit; sewage; South Korea; transmission electron microscopy; bacteriophage; carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae; coliphage; drug effect; drug therapy; Escherichia coli; Escherichia coli infection; genetics; human; isolation and purification; microbial sensitivity test; microbiology; multidrug resistance; multilocus sequence typing; phage therapy; physiology; virology | English | 2024 | 2024-11-01 | 10.1089/fpd.2024.0023 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Oxovanadium(IV) complexes containing tetradentate N2O2-type ligands: synthesis, crystal structure, antioxidant activity, and spectroscopic characterization | Two coordination complexes were synthesized using vanadyl(IV) acetylacetonate and H(2)denm/H(4)dpim in MeOH/CHCl3 and characterized. The complexes were [VO(denm)(H2O)]CH3OH (1) and [VO(H(2)dpim)(CH3COONa)]CH3OH (2) (H(2)denm = 2,2 '-[[(1R,2R)-1,2-diphenyl-1,2-ethanediyl]bis[(E)-nitrilomethylidyne]]bis[6-methoxyphenol]; H(4)dpim = [(2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediyl)bis(iminomethylene)bis(6-methoxyphenol)]. The vanadyl(IV) species of 1 and 2 exhibited distorted octahedral geometries with two N and two O atoms of each ligand and aqua/acetate ligand. Complex 1 did not exhibit emissions in the solid and solution states, whereas complex 2 exhibited strong band maxima in the solid state and a dimethyl sulfoxide solution. The magnetic properties and electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of 1 and 2 revealed that they were S = 1/2 spin systems. The antioxidant activity of 2 was higher than those of 1 and ascorbic acid. | Le, Ngoc Tram Anh; Jeong, Yuri; Jang, Yoon Jung; Min, Kil Sik | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Chem, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Chem Educ, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sci Educ Res Inst, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Yeungnam Univ, Coll Basis Educ, Gyongsan 38541, Gyeong Buk, South Korea | Le, Thien/IVU-7983-2023; Jang, Yoon/Z-1136-2019 | 58793817000; 58564255500; 7201869031; 7201466885 | minks@knu.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF INCLUSION PHENOMENA AND MACROCYCLIC CHEMISTRY | J INCL PHENOM MACRO | 1388-3127 | 1573-1111 | 104 | 5-6 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, MULTIDISCIPLINARY | 2024 | 1.6 | 66.7 | 0.35 | 2025-05-07 | 1 | 1 | Vanadium complex; Tetradentate ligand; Crystal structure; Electron paramagnetic resonance; Magnetic properties; Antioxidant activity | MAGNETIC-PROPERTIES; OXIDATION; NI(II) | Antioxidant activity; Crystal structure; Electron paramagnetic resonance; Magnetic properties; Tetradentate ligand; Vanadium complex | Antioxidants; Ascorbic acid; Chelation; Crystal structure; Dimethyl sulfoxide; Electron resonance; Electron spin resonance spectroscopy; Magnetic properties; Paramagnetic resonance; Paramagnetism; Synthesis (chemical); Vanadium compounds; Antioxidant activities; Coordination complex; Crystals structures; Methoxyphenols; Oxovanadium; Spectroscopic characterization; Tetradentate; Tetradentate ligands; Vanadium complexes; Vanadyl; Ligands | English | 2024 | 2024-06 | 10.1007/s10847-023-01215-z | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Age and relative uplift of marine terraces controlled by fault activities along the eastern coast of Korea | A comprehensive examination of uplifted mid-late Pleistocene marine terraces along the eastern coast of Korea offers valuable insights into the temporal and spatial variability of uplift rates spanning similar to 200 ka. Focusing on the Gangneung-Samcheok region of the Korean peninsula's east coast, the study area is delineated into three distinct areas (i.e., Anin, Jeongdongjin-Donghae, and Samcheok) by two NNE-SSW to NE-SE-striking faults. Three flights of marine terraces are developed in each area, with terraces typically observed at elevations of 10 to 20 m and 20 to 35 m across all three areas. Conversely, upper terraces exceeding these elevations are mainly observed at 50 to 60 m or 60 to 80 m, with regional variations noted. Quartz optically stimulated luminescence dating (OSL) was used for dating marine terrace deposits. However, it could not be applied to older deposits beyond the upper limit of quartz OSL. Therefore, IRSL and post IR-IRSL dating using K-rich feldspar, which has a higher upper limit than quartz OSL, were applied in this study. The results indicate that marine terraces at elevations of 10 to 20 m and 20 to 35 m formed during MIS 5a and MIS 5e. Depositional ages of MIS 7 were obtained from terraces ranging from 50 to 60 m or 60 to 80 m, exhibiting elevation differences across regions. Consequently, the estimated temporal variation in uplift rates revealed an average uplift rate of 0.52-0.79 m/ka from MIS 7 to MIS 5e, followed by 0.2-0.3 m/ka after MIS 5e. Spatial variation in uplift rates was observed from MIS 7 to MIS 5e. Specifically, the uplift rate in the Jeongdongjin-Donghae area, located in the middle part of the study area, was 0.79 m/ka (Min. 0.68 m/ka, Max. 0.90 m/ka), whereas the uplift rate in the other study areas was 0.52 m/ka (Min. 0.41 m/ka, Max. 0.62 m/ka). This discrepancy is probably attributed to the influence of the two faults that subdivide the study area. | Hong, Seongchan; Oh, Jeong-Sik | Korea Natl Univ Educ, Dept Geog Educ, Chungbuk 28173, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Geog, 80 Daehak Ro, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 57209319791; 57207250311 | ohjeongsik83@knu.ac.kr; | GEOSCIENCES JOURNAL | GEOSCI J | 1226-4806 | 1598-7477 | 28 | 5 | SCIE | GEOSCIENCES, MULTIDISCIPLINARY | 2024 | 1.5 | 66.9 | 0.4 | 2025-05-07 | 2 | 2 | marine terrace; luminescence dating; uplift rate; regional uplift variation; eastern coast of Korea | POST-IR IRSL; LUMINESCENCE SIGNALS; SOUTHEASTERN COAST; PLEISTOCENE LOESS; CHINESE LOESS; K-FELDSPAR; SEDIMENTS; SINGLE; DEPOSITS; QUARTZ | eastern coast of Korea; luminescence dating; marine terrace; regional uplift variation; uplift rate | English | 2024 | 2024-10 | 10.1007/s12303-024-0033-1 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Design and Implementation of Comprehensive Thermal Management Verification Model for Electric Vehicles Operating in Cold Climates | The electrification of vehicles has become a major focus in the automotive industry due to worldwide efforts toward reducing carbon emissions and achieving sustainable mobility. However, a significant challenge in expanding electrified vehicle market is to address the issue of limited driving range, particularly in cold climates. Thus, a precise and reasonable model that integrates both the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system and the battery thermal management system is necessary to systematically analyze the system performance at early development stage. Motivated by this, we developed an electric vehicle simulator that includes an integrated thermal management system and validated it by comparing with the real experimental data, and we have demonstrated the reliability of the developed model. Using the model, we could apply various control methods, e.g., PID, model predictive control, for tracking the reference cabin temperature under various driving environments. Our findings indicate that the simplified control-oriented model can be a reliable tool for various vehicle thermal control designs. We believe that this study can provide valuable insights into the design and optimization of the thermal management system of electrified vehicles. | Nam, Sanghyeon; Moon, Chulwoo; Park, Suyong; Lee, Byeongtae; Han, Kyoungseok | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Mech Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Korea Automot Technol Inst, Cheonan 31214, South Korea; Korea Automot Technol Inst, Daegu Branch, Daegu 43011, South Korea | 58592160700; 53880301200; 57560254700; 58906763900; 56465294700 | kyoungsh@knu.ac.kr; | INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY | INT J AUTO TECH-KOR | 1229-9138 | 1976-3832 | 25 | 1 | SCIE | ENGINEERING, MECHANICAL;TRANSPORTATION SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | 2024 | 1.5 | 66.9 | 1.45 | 2025-05-07 | 6 | 4 | Heating ventilation and air conditioning; Integrated thermal management; Electrified vehicles; Model predictive control | ION BATTERY; SYSTEM; TEMPERATURE | Electrified vehicles; Heating ventilation and air conditioning; Integrated thermal management; Model predictive control | Air conditioning; Automobile drivers; Automotive industry; Climate models; Electric vehicles; Information management; Model predictive control; Thermal management (electronics); Carbon emissions; Colder climate; Design and implementations; Electrified vehicles; Heating ventilation and air conditioning; Integrated thermal management; Model-predictive control; Sustainable mobility; Thermal management systems; Verification model; Temperature control | English | 2024 | 2024-02 | 10.1007/s12239-024-00009-7 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
