| ○ | Article | Matrix inequalities and majorizations around Hermite-Hadamard's inequality | We study the classical Hermite-Hadamard inequality in the matrix setting. This leads to a number of interesting matrix inequalities such as the Schatten p-norm estimates (formula presented) for all positive (semidefinite) n×n matrices A,B and 01. A related decomposition, with the assumption (formula presented), is for some family of 2n×2n unitary matrices Uk. This is a majorization which is obtained by using the Hansen-Pedersen trace inequality. © Canadian Mathematical Society, 2022. | Bourin, Jean-Christophe; Lee, Eun-Young | Laboratoire de Mathématiques, Université de Bourgogne Franche-Comté, Besançon, 25000, France; Department of Mathematics, KNU-Center for Nonlinear Dynamics, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, 702-701, South Korea | 6602591041; 55371789400 | jcbourin@univ-fcomte.fr; | Canadian Mathematical Bulletin | CAN MATH BULL | 0008-4395 | 1496-4287 | 65 | 4 | SCIE | MATHEMATICS | 2022 | 0.6 | 73.5 | 0.25 | 2025-06-25 | 1 | block matrices; convex functions; matrix inequalities; Positive definite matrices | English | Final | 2022 | 10.4153/s0008439522000029 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | ON FOLDED CLUSTER PATTERNS OF AFFINE TYPE | A cluster algebra is a commutative algebra whose structure is decided by a skew symmetrizable matrix or a valued quiver. When a skew symmetrizable matrix is invariant under an action of a finite group and this action is admissible, the folded cluster algebra is obtained from the original one. Any cluster algebra of nonsimply laced affine type can be obtained by folding a cluster algebra of simply laced affine type with a specific G-action. In this paper, we study the combinatorial properties of quivers in the cluster algebra of affine type. We prove that for any quiver of simply laced affine type, G-invariance and G-admissibility are equivalent. This leads us to prove that the set of G-invariant seeds forms the folded cluster pattern. | An, Byung Hee; Lee, Eunjeong | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Math Educ, Daegu, South Korea; Chungbuk Natl Univ, Dept Math, Cheongju, South Korea; Inst for Basic Sci Korea, Ctr Geometry & Phys, Pohang, South Korea | An, Byung/O-8592-2014; Lee, Eunjeong/ABC-7123-2020 | 36599927400; 57453446100 | anbyhee@knu.ac.kr;eunjeong.lee@chungbuk.ac.kr; | PACIFIC JOURNAL OF MATHEMATICS | PAC J MATH | 0030-8730 | 1945-5844 | 318 | 2 | SCIE | MATHEMATICS | 2022 | 0.6 | 73.5 | 0.25 | 2025-06-25 | 1 | 1 | cluster patterns of affine type; folding; invariance; admissibility | ALGEBRAS | Admissibility; Cluster patterns of affine type; Folding; Invariance | English | 2022 | 2022-06 | 10.2140/pjm.2022.318.401 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Spherical hypersurfaces associated with the spherical Gauss map and Gauss map | The Gauss map of a submanifold in a Euclidean space is a map of the submanifold into the Grassmann manifold via translation of tangent spaces into oriented planes. If a submanifold is spherical, the notion of the spherical Gauss map is naturally defined. The spherical Gauss map is more meaningful for studying spherical submanifolds lying in a unit sphere centered at the origin. We consider an easy approach to the spherical Gauss map and the Gauss map of a hypersurface of the unit sphere. We characterize the Clifford tori, a small sphere and a great sphere by means of the pointwise 1-type spherical Gauss map and the Gauss map. | Jung, Sun Mi; Kim, Dong-Soo; Kim, Young Ho | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Math, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Chonnam Natl Univ, Dept Math, Gwangju 61186, South Korea | Kim, Young/J-5414-2012 | 24281735100; 57203012638; 57215211825 | jung3756@knu.ac.kr;dosokim@chonnam.ac.kr;yhkim@knu.ac.kr; | PUBLICATIONES MATHEMATICAE-DEBRECEN | PUBL MATH-DEBRECEN | 0033-3883 | 100 | 3-4 | SCIE | MATHEMATICS | 2022 | 0.6 | 73.5 | 0.25 | 2025-06-25 | 1 | 1 | Clifford torus; Gauss map; spherical gauss map; finite-type; pointwise; 1-type | SUBMANIFOLDS | Clifford torus; finite-type; Gauss map; pointwise 1-type; spherical gauss map | English | 2022 | 2022 | 10.5486/pmd.2022.9211 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||

| ○ | ○ | Article | Complete genome sequence of a novel porcine hemagglutinating encephalomyelitis virus strain identified in South Korea | Porcine hemagglutinating encephalomyelitis virus (PHEV) is a member of the subgenus Embecovirus of the genus Betacoronavirus, and it is ubiquitously distributed in most pig-farming countries worldwide with low clinical incidence. Here, we report the full-length genome sequence and molecular characterization of a novel PHEV strain identified in diarrheic neonates in South Korea. The complete genome of the Korean PHEV strain GNU-2113 was sequenced and analyzed to characterize PHEV circulating in South Korea. The GNU-2113 genome was determined to be 29,982 nucleotides in length, with large unique deletions in the regions encoding nonstructural protein 3 and NS2. It was found to share 95.1-96.9% sequence identity with other global strains. Genetic and phylogenetic analysis indicated that the GNU-2113 strain is distantly related to the existing PHEV genotypes, implying that the virus appears to undergo substantial evolution under endemic pressure. This study provides important information about the genetic diversity of PHEV circulating subclinically in swine herds, which may ensure viral fitness in the enzootic environment. | Kim, Yeeun; Lee, Kyung Min; Jang, Guehwan; Lee, Changhee | Gyeongsang Natl Univ, Coll Vet Med, Jinju 52828, South Korea; Gyeongsang Natl Univ, Virus Vaccine Res Ctr, Jinju 52828, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Life Sci, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Kim, Yeeun/GRS-4455-2022 | 57426549600; 57222405085; 56608747100; 55700560700 | changhee@gnu.ac.kr; | ARCHIVES OF VIROLOGY | ARCH VIROL | 0304-8608 | 1432-8798 | 167 | 5 | SCIE | VIROLOGY | 2022 | 2.7 | 73.6 | 0.31 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 4 | Animals; Betacoronavirus 1; Genome, Viral; Genotype; Phylogeny; Republic of Korea; Sequence Analysis, DNA; Swine; Swine Diseases; animal; Betacoronavirus 1; DNA sequence; genetics; genotype; phylogeny; pig; South Korea; swine disease; virus genome | English | 2022 | 2022-05 | 10.1007/s00705-022-05414-w | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Complete genome sequence of cnidium virus 1, a novel betanucleorhabdovirus infecting Cnidium officinale | The complete genomic sequence of a plant rhabdovirus that was identified in Cnidium officinale in Yeongyang-dun, South Korea, is reported here. The virus, tentatively named "cnidium virus 1" (CnV1), has a negative-sense RNA genome of similar to 14 kb, and its organization most closely resembles that of unsegmented plant rhabdoviruses, containing six antisense open reading frames (ORFs) in the order 3'-N-P-P3-M-G-L-5'. Intergenic regions containing conserved sequences separate the genes. The genome of CnV1 is 37.8-56% identical in its complete nucleotide sequence to betanucleorhabdoviruses and other related rhabdoviruses. Therefore, based on the sequence similarity criteria for species demarcation, its genome organization, and its phylogenetic position, CnV1 should be classified as a new member of the genus Betanucleorhabdovirus in the family Rhabdoviridae. CnV1 is the first rhabdovirus found in C. officinale. | Belete, Mesele Tilahun; Igori, Davaajargal; Kim, Se Eun; Lee, Su-Heon; Moon, Jae Sun | Univ Sci & Technol UST, Biosyst & Bioengn Program, Daejeon 34141, South Korea; Korean Res Inst Biosci & Biotechnol, Plant Syst Engn Res Ctr, Daejeon 34141, South Korea; Amhara Agr Res Inst, Plant Biotechnol Res Div, Bahir Dar, Ethiopia; Mongolian Natl Univ Educ, Sch Math & Nat Sci, Dept Biol, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Agr & Life Sci, Sch Appl Biosci, Daegu 98411, South Korea | 57284104200; 55316924200; 57284540000; 57213176188; 56002012500 | suheon@knu.ac.kr;jsmoon@kribb.re.k; | ARCHIVES OF VIROLOGY | ARCH VIROL | 0304-8608 | 1432-8798 | 167 | 3 | SCIE | VIROLOGY | 2022 | 2.7 | 73.6 | 1.04 | 2025-06-25 | 7 | 10 | Cnidium; Genome, Viral; Open Reading Frames; Phylogeny; Plant Diseases; Rhabdoviridae; RNA, Viral; virus RNA; Cnidium; genetics; open reading frame; phylogeny; plant disease; Rhabdoviridae; virus genome | English | 2022 | 2022-03 | 10.1007/s00705-021-05348-9 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | SNR-Enhanced, Rapid Electrical Conductivity Mapping Using Echo-Shifted MRI | Magnetic resonance electrical impedance tomography (MREIT) permits high-spatial resolution electrical conductivity mapping of biological tissues, and its quantification accuracy hinges on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the current-induced magnetic flux density (B-z). The purpose of this work was to achieve B-z SNR-enhanced rapid conductivity imaging by developing an echo-shifted steady-state incoherent imaging-based MREIT technique. In the proposed pulse sequence, the free-induction-decay signal is shifted in time over multiple imaging slices, and as a result is exposed to a plurality of injecting current pulses before forming an echo. Thus, the proposed multi-slice echo-shifting strategy allows a high SNR for B-z for a given number of current injections. However, with increasing the time of echo formation, the B-z SNR will also be compromised by T-2*-related signal loss. Hence, numerical simulations were performed to evaluate the relationship between the echo-shifting and the B-z SNR, and subsequently to determine the optimal imaging parameters. Experimental studies were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method over conventional spin-echo-based MREIT. Compared with the reference spin-echo MREIT, the proposed echo-shifting-based method improves the efficiency in both data acquisition and current injection while retaining the accuracy of conductivity quantification. The results suggest the feasibility of the proposed MREIT method as a practical means for conductivity mapping. | Lee, Hyunyeol; Park, Jaeseok | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Grad Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Sungkyunkwan Univ, Dept Biomed Engn, Suwon 16419, South Korea | 57193268117; 56095729700 | hyunyeollee@knu.ac.kr;jaeseokp@skku.edu; | TOMOGRAPHY | TOMOGRAPHY | 2379-1381 | 2379-139X | 8 | 1 | SCIE | RADIOLOGY, NUCLEAR MEDICINE & MEDICAL IMAGING | 2022 | 1.9 | 73.7 | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 0 | magnetic resonance imaging (MRI); magnetic resonance electrical impedance tomography (MREIT); echo-shifted MRI; steady-state incoherent imaging; electrical conductivity | IMPEDANCE TOMOGRAPHY MREIT; MAGNETIC-FLUX DENSITY; GRADIENT-RECALLED MRI; STEADY-STATE; BRAIN; TISSUE; RECONSTRUCTION; SENSITIVITY | Echo-shifted MRI; Electrical conductivity; Magnetic resonance electrical impedance tomography (MREIT); Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI); Steady-state incoherent imaging | Algorithms; Electric Conductivity; Electric Impedance; Magnetic Resonance Imaging; Phantoms, Imaging; Signal-To-Noise Ratio; algorithm; electric conductivity; imaging phantom; impedance; nuclear magnetic resonance imaging; procedures; signal noise ratio | English | 2022 | 2022-02 | 10.3390/tomography8010031 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | XperCT-guided Intra-cisterna Magna Injection of Streptozotocin for Establishing an Alzheimer's Disease Model Using the Cynomolgus Monkey (Macaca fascicularis) | Till date, researchers have been developing animal models of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in various species to understand the pathological charac-terization and molecular mechanistic pathways associated with this condition in humans to identify potential therapeutic treatments. A widely recognized AD model that mimics the pathology of human AD involves the intracerebroventricular (ICV) injection with streptozotocin (STZ). However, ICV injection as an invasive approach has several limitations related to complicated surgical procedures. Therefore, in the present study, we created a customized stereotaxic frame using the XperCT-guided system for injecting STZ in cynomolgus monkeys, aiming to establish an AD model. The anatomical structures surrounding the cisterna magna (CM) were confirmed using CT/MRI fusion images of monkey brain with XperCT, the c-arm cone beam computed tomography. XperCT was used to determine the appropriate direction in which the needle tip should be inserted within the CM region. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was collected to confirm the accurate target site when STZ was injected into the CM. Cynomolgus monkeys were administered STZ dissolved in artificial CSF once every week for 4 weeks via intracisterna magna (ICM) injection us-ing XperCT-guided stereotactic system. The molecular mechanisms underlying the progression of STZ-induced AD pathology were analyzed two weeks after the final injection. The monkeys subjected to XperCT-based STZ injection via the ICM route showed features of AD pathology, includ-ing markedly enhanced neuronal loss, synaptic impairment, and tau phosphorylation in the hippocampus. These findings suggest a new approach for the construction of neurodegenerative disease models and development of therapeutic strategies. | Park, Junghyung; Won, Jinyoung; Jeon, Chang-Yeop; Lim, Kyung Seob; Choi, Won Seok; Park, Sung-hyun; Seo, Jincheol; Cho, Jiyeon; Seong, Jung Bae; Yeo, Hyeon-Gu; Kim, Keonwoo; Kim, Yu Gyeong; Kim, Minji; Yi, Kyung Sik; Lee, Youngjeon | Korea Res Inst Biosci & Biotechnol KRIBB, Natl Primate Res Ctr, Cheongju 28116, South Korea; Korea Res Inst Biosci & Biotechnol KRIBB, Futurist Anim Resource & Res Ctr, Cheongju 28116, South Korea; Univ Sci & Technol UST, KRIBB Sch Biosci, Daejeon 34113, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Life Sci, Plus KNU Creat Biores Grp BK21, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Korea Adv Inst Sci & Technol KAIST, Dept Bio & Brain Engn, Daejeon 34141, South Korea; Chungbuk Natl Univ Hosp, Dept Radiol, Cheongju 28644, South Korea | ; Park, Junghyung/KXQ-7522-2024; Lee, Youngjeon/LZH-8969-2025 | 55671747100; 56018670200; 56522472100; 36470521900; 57215086073; 57219112045; 57200518242; 57976410100; 57202134219; 56263762800; 57204572034; 57219109450; 57199746462; 56021108000; 57199022088 | neurosci@kribb.re.kr; | EXPERIMENTAL NEUROBIOLOGY | EXP NEUROBIOL | 1226-2560 | 2093-8144 | 31 | 6 | SCIE | MEDICINE, RESEARCH & EXPERIMENTAL;NEUROSCIENCES | 2022 | 2.4 | 73.9 | 0.31 | 2025-06-25 | 3 | 3 | Intra-cisterna magna; Streptozotocin; Alzheimer?s disease; Cynomolgus monkey; Non-human primates | CEREBROSPINAL-FLUID COLLECTION; BRAIN INSULIN-RESISTANCE; PRIMATE MODEL; DELIVERY; PATHWAY; ROUTE | Alzheimer’s disease; Cynomolgus monkey; Intra-cisterna magna; Non-human primates; Streptozotocin | atropine; beta actin; disks large homolog 4; gadolinium; hemoglobin; isoflurane; ketamine; neuron specific nuclear protein; streptozocin; synaptophysin; tau protein; Alzheimer disease; anatomical concepts; animal experiment; animal model; animal tissue; Article; bone structure; cerebrospinal fluid; cisterna magna; cone beam computed tomography; eosinophil count; erythrocyte count; female; hippocampus; leukocyte count; lymphocyte count; Macaca fascicularis; monocyte count; neutrophil count; nonhuman; nuclear magnetic resonance imaging; protein phosphorylation; three-dimensional imaging; Western blotting; x-ray computed tomography | English | 2022 | 2022-12 | 10.5607/en22027 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | New magnetic isolation winding for modular multiple three-phase permanent-magnet machine with mixed-layer | In large scale permanent magnet (PM) machines, such as direct drive wind power generators, stator modularity is widely used for easy manufacturing and to protect the winding from mechanical damage due to being exposed to air. Multiple three-phase systems that use commercial inverters provide not only a fault-tolerant operation but also price competitiveness. Although the conventional modular structure of a concentrated single-layer or distributed winding shows good performance, a large magnetic mutual interference between coils is inevitable. Consequently, if conventional windings are applied to multiple three-phase systems, complexity and difficulty for controlling the machine can arise. This study proposes a new magnetic isolation winding scheme for modular multiple three-phase PM machines with a mixed layer to deal with the abovementioned limitation. For comparison, five different modular multiple-three phase PM machines with a mixed-layer winding (MMPM) are presented and three conventional modular types are selected. Then, several simulation results and experimental data confirm the validity of the proposed structure. | Seo, Jangho; Seo, Jung-Moo; Kim, Rae-Eun | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Automot Engn, Sangju, South Korea; Korea Elect Technol Inst, Intelligent Mechatron Res Ctr, Gyeonggi, South Korea; Seoul Natl Univ, Dept Elect & Comp Engn, Seoul, South Korea | 12791073600; 8570719900; 57189235125 | j.seo@knu.ac.kr; | IET ELECTRIC POWER APPLICATIONS | IET ELECTR POWER APP | 1751-8660 | 1751-8679 | 16 | 10 | SCIE | ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC | 2022 | 1.7 | 74.4 | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 0 | SLOT; NUMBER | Digital storage; Magnetism; Permanent magnets; Wind power; Direct drive; Large-scales; Magnetic isolation; Mixed layer; Modulars; Permanent-magnet machine; Three phase; Three phase system; Three phasis; Wind-power generators; Winding | English | 2022 | 2022-10 | 10.1049/elp2.12227 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Quality of life changes in elderly patients after gastrectomy: perspective of an aged Asian society in the 2010s | Purpose: The study aimed to investigate how elderly gastric cancer patients do postoperatively in terms of quality of life (QoL) compared to younger patients. We also investigated how the QoL of elderly gastric cancer patients has changed over the last decade in the aging population. Methods: We included 113 elderly (>= 70 years) and 202 younger patients, who underwent distal gastrectomy for stage I gastric cancer during the 2010s. The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer quality of life questionnaires were used to assess preoperative and postoperative (3-month/1-year) QoL. The baseline QoL and postoperative QoL changes were compared. The elderly patients were further grouped into the early- and late-2010s groups, based on the year of surgery, and their QoL and clinical data were compared. Results: The baseline QoL was significantly different on some scales (physical/role functionings, and pain/dyspnea/dysphagia) in favor of younger patients. The postoperative QoL changes were not different with the exception of emotional functioning (1-year postoperatively) in favor of younger patients. Compared to the early-2010s group, comorbidities were more frequent, and the proportion of stage IA cancer was higher in the late-2010s group. There were no QoL differences with the exception of insomnia and financial difficulties (3-months postoperatively) in favor of the late-2010s group. Conclusion: Despite baseline QoL differences, elderly gastric cancer patients did as well as younger patients in terms of postoperative QoL changes. More elderly gastric cancer patients with comorbidities are undergoing gastrectomies nowadays and it does not cause them a significant QoL disadvantage. | Jung, Ji Hyun; Lee, Seung Soo; Chung, Ho Young | Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Dept Surg, 130 Dongdeok Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Surg, Daegu, South Korea | 57702330600; 54400392100; 56008255800 | peterleess@knu.ac.kr; | ANNALS OF SURGICAL TREATMENT AND RESEARCH | ANN SURG TREAT RES | 2288-6575 | 2288-6796 | 102 | 4 | SCIE | SURGERY | 2022 | 1.4 | 74.4 | 0.62 | 2025-06-25 | 3 | 3 | Aging; Gastrectomy; Quality of life; Stomach neoplasms | PATIENTS RISK-FACTORS; CANCER-PATIENTS; GASTRIC-CANCER; OLDER-ADULTS; SURVIVAL; COMORBIDITY; VALIDATION; SURGERY; REFUSAL | Aging; Gastrectomy; Quality of life; Stomach neoplasms | English | 2022 | 2022-04 | 10.4174/astr.2022.102.4.214 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Unfavorable effect of high postoperative fluid balance on outcome of pancreaticoduodenectomy | Purpose: Despite the many efforts to overcome postoperative complications, pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is still accompanied with considerable concerns of lethal complications. The clinical factors are known to affect postoperative outcomes such as diameter of pancreatic duct, texture of pancreas, and comorbidity of the patients are mostly uncorrectable. Thus, investigation for correctable risk factors is required. Recently, perioperative fluid volume was reported to be associated with complications after PD. This study aims to determine the relationship between postoperative fluid balance and surgical outcome after open PD. Methods: We reviewed, retrospectively, 172 consecutive patients who underwent open PD in a single institution between 2015 and 2019. The status of perioperative fluid balance 2 days after surgery and clinical factors were investigated to determine the association with postoperative outcome including postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF). According to postoperative fluid balance, patients were divided into high-and low-balance groups, and clinical features and surgical outcomes were compared between both groups. Multivariate analysis were performed to identify risk factors for POPF. Results: The percentage of morbidity and the incidence of POPF were higher in the high-balance group compared to the low-balance group (61.6% vs. 37.2%, P = 0.001; 15.1% vs. 3.5%, P = 0.009). High postoperative fluid balance and the presence cardiovascular disease were correlated with POPF on multivariate analysis (odds ratio [OR], 4.574; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.229-17.029; P = 0.023 and OR, 3.517; 95% CI, 1.209-12.017; P = 0.045). Conclusion: Higher amount of postoperative fluid balance and the presence of cardiovascular disease are associated with POPF after PD. | Jeon, Hyun-Jeong; Kwon, Hyung-Jun; Hwang, Yoon-Jin; Kim, Sang-Geol | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Surg, Chilgok Hosp, 807 Hoguk Ro, Daegu 41404, South Korea | ; Kim, Kyung/I-5501-2015 | 57266297900; 59579184900; 59782503700; 21735842600 | ksg@knu.ac.kr; | ANNALS OF SURGICAL TREATMENT AND RESEARCH | ANN SURG TREAT RES | 2288-6575 | 2288-6796 | 102 | 3 | SCIE | SURGERY | 2022 | 1.4 | 74.4 | 0.62 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 3 | Pancreatic fistula; Pancreaticoduodenectomy; Water-electrolyte balance | INTERNATIONAL STUDY-GROUP; PANCREATIC FISTULA; COMPLICATIONS; MANAGEMENT; SURGERY | Pancreatic fistula; Pancreaticoduodenectomy; Water-electrolyte balance | English | 2022 | 2022-03 | 10.4174/astr.2022.102.3.139 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Various types of reconstruction after pancreaticoduodenectomy for the patients who underwent all types of gastrectomy: a single-center experience | Purpose: The incidence of patients requiring pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) following any type of gastrectomy is increasing as the population of elderly patients is increasing, especially in endemic areas of gastric cancer such as Korea. All types of gastrectomy can be categorized as subtotal gastrectomy with Billroth I (BI), Billroth II (BII), and total gastrectomy with Roux-en-Y anastomosis. In this paper, we reviewed our experiences of PD for patients who previously underwent gastrectomy. Methods: We reviewed the medical records of the patients who underwent PD following any type of gastrectomy among 505 consecutive patients who underwent PD in a single institution between 2011 and 2020 retrospectively. Results: There were 13 patients who had undergone gastrectomy including 7 patients of BI, 1 patient of BII, and 5 patients of total gastrectomy. For all 7 patients of BI, the reconstruction was not different from conventional PD. For the 1 patient of BII, previous gastrojejunal anastomosis was preserved and reconstruction was performed in Roux-en-Y method. For the 5 patients with total gastrectomy, 2 different types of reconstruction were performed. In one patient, we removed the remaining jejunum with the specimen, and reconstruction was performed. For the other 4 patients, the remaining jejunum, distal to the Treitz ligament, was preserved and was utilized for anastomosis. Surgeries for all patients were uneventful. Conclusion: PD following any type of gastrectomy can be safe. Especially, if the length of remained jejunum is long enough, its utilization for the reconstruction can be an appropriate option. | ○ | ○ | Review | A review of test methods for evaluating mobility of firefighters wearing personal protective equipment | This review aimed to suggest useful, potential measurements as standard test methods for evaluating the mobility of structural firefighters wearing personal protective equipment (PPE). Based on our previous research on Japanese firefighters' activities related to mobility as well as previous literature results, the findings were categorized (e.g., simulated firefighting activities, test method for mobility assessment, and participants groups), and discussed. We identified four categories that can be used to test and evaluate mobility: (1) simulated firefighting activities consisting of step-ups, obstacle strides, crawling, dragging, and jumping; (2) in terms of balance ability, the postural sway and functional balance tests (functional reach and timed up and go) were useful measurements; (3) range of motion can be used to estimate the mobility associated with the various designs of PPE, as well as the effect of wearing the PPE itself; and (4) subjective evaluations of individuals wearing PPE were available for the mobility assessments. Professional firefighters who were familiar with wearing PPE were suitable for the suggested test method. This review provides useful information for firefighters, researchers, and PPE manufacturers that can be used to develop more comfortable and safer PPE. | Tochihara, Yutaka; Lee, Joo-Young; Son, Su-Young | Kyushu Univ, Fac Design, Dept Human Sci, Fukuoka, Japan; Seoul Natl Univ, Dept Text Merchandising & Fash Design, Coll Human Ecol, Seoul, South Korea; Adv Inst Convergence Technol, Graphene Res Ctr Convergence Technol, Suwon, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Home Econ Educ, Teachers Coll, Daegu, South Korea | 7004132851; 57196136304; 54785259200 | sonsy@knu.ac.kr; | INDUSTRIAL HEALTH | IND HEALTH | 0019-8366 | 1880-8026 | 60 | 2 | SCIE | ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES;PUBLIC, ENVIRONMENTAL & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH;TOXICOLOGY | 2022 | 2 | 74.6 | 0.37 | 2025-06-25 | 8 | 8 | Firefighters; Personal protective equipment; Protective clothing; Mobility; Test method | CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS; WORK PERFORMANCE; DYNAMIC BALANCE; RESTRICTION; RESPONSES; JAPANESE; ABILITY; DESIGN; STRAIN; IMPACT | Firefighters; Mobility; Personal protective equipment; Protective clothing; Test method | Firefighters; Humans; Personal Protective Equipment; Protective Clothing; fire fighter; human; protective clothing; protective equipment | English | 2022 | 2022 | 10.2486/indhealth.2021-0157 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 |
