| ○ | ○ | Article | Anisotropic meta-surface-based wideband high gain circularly polarized patch antenna | In this paper, a new anisotropic meta-surface-based circularly polarized antenna is presented. The polarization of the radiating patch changes from linear to circular using the proposed meta-surface design. The reference antenna is designed on the FR-4 dielectric substrate of thickness of 1.6 mm (and 4.8 mm) to analyze the effects of meta-surface. The proposed meta-surface antenna exhibits impedance bandwidth (S-11-10 dB) of 1.34 GHz (3.24-4.58 GHz), 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 1.004 GHz (3.59-4.594 GHz), and a peak gain of 7.83 dBi. | Srivastava, Kunal; Kumar, Sachin; Dwari, Santanu; Kanaujia, Binod Kumar; Choi, Hyun Chul; Kim, Kang Wook | Indian Inst Technol ISM, Dept Elect Engn, Dhanbad, Bihar, India; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Jawaharlal Nehru Univ, Sch Computat & Integrat Sci, New Delhi, India | Kanaujia, Binod/L-6484-2019; kanaujia, Binod/L-6484-2019; Dwari, Santanu/NQF-2967-2025; Kumar, Sachin/W-2211-2019 | 57213897837; 56907994000; 13205077400; 56962785800; 57193342681; 57204432422 | kang_kim@ee.knu.ac.kr; | ELECTROMAGNETICS | ELECTROMAGNETICS | 0272-6343 | 1532-527X | 40 | 8 | SCIE | ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC | 2020 | 1.099 | 85.5 | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 1 | 2 | Circular polarization; gain; meta-surface; patch antenna; wideband | MICROSTRIP ANTENNA; RCS | Circular polarization; gain; meta-surface; patch antenna; wideband | Anisotropy; Bandwidth; Circular polarization; Dielectric materials; Electric impedance; Microstrip antennas; Axial ratio bandwidth; Circularly polarized; Circularly polarized antennas; Dielectric substrates; Impedance bandwidths; Radiating patches; Reference antennas; Surface design; Microwave antennas | English | 2020 | 2020-11-16 | 10.1080/02726343.2020.1838057 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Language gap between college introductory physics textbooks and high school physics textbooks | This study investigates the extent of the difficulty faced by college students taking an introductory physics class by comparing linguistic differences in terminology between a high school physics textbook and a college introductory physics textbook. In addition, it explores new linguistic expressions used to teach introductory physics in college, which specifically lead to information on the content and expressions that students are familiar with as well as new content and expressions. This information can be utilized to formulate teaching strategies. Text from the chapters on 'force' is extracted from a high school physics textbook and a college introductory physics textbook. The text was studied in terms of word frequency analysis,N-gram analysis, keyword analysis, and network analysis. Results indicate that about 70% of the text in the college introductory physics textbook had new words not used in the high school physics textbook, and these words were used to elaborate on the content covered in high school. In introductory physics, a large number of words are interconnected in complex relationships. However, from an educational viewpoint, since the relationship between these words is not explicitly shown and not used often in the textbook, students may find it difficult to understand the content. This study inferred students' prior knowledge of physics by examining the linguistic expressions central to high school textbooks. The results suggest that when teaching introductory physics in college, it is necessary to consider the content or expressions that students are familiar with and those that they are unfamiliar with. | Yun, Eunjeong | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Daegu, South Korea | Yun, Eunjeong/HTT-0809-2023 | 57023394700 | ejyun@knu.ac.kr; | EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF PHYSICS | EUR J PHYS | 0143-0807 | 1361-6404 | 41 | 6 | SCIE | EDUCATION, SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINES;PHYSICS, MULTIDISCIPLINARY | 2020 | 0.781 | 85.5 | 0.07 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 4 | textbook; introductory physics; physics terminology; science language | NETWORKS | introductory physics; physics terminology; science language; xtbook | Linguistics; Students; Textbooks; College students; Higher School; Introductory physic; Linguistic differences; Linguistic expressions; Physic terminology; Science language; Teaching strategy; Word frequencies; Xtbook; Terminology | English | 2020 | 2020-11 | 10.1088/1361-6404/abbaae | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Microscope projection photolithography based on liquid crystal microdisplay | We developed a microdisplay-based microscope projection photolithography (MDMPP) technique in which a liquid crystal (LC) microdisplay is used as a reconfigurable photomask for a microscope projector. The LC microdisplay provides a significant advantage in terms of cost and speed since patterns can be generated through software instead of redesigning and fabricating glass photomasks. The constructed MDMPP system could produce line patterns as narrow as 2.4 mu m, smaller than that specified by the diffraction limit, with the aid of a 4x objective lens. The achievement of a linewidth smaller than the theoretical limit may be ascribed to a combination of overexposure and the underetching effect, in addition to the good optical performance of the system. In a diffraction experiment performed with fabricated slits, the application of the MDMPP technique helped provide various patterns of the slits, demonstrating the potential usefulness of the MDMPP system in undergraduate optics courses. We expect that MDMPP can contribute to the field of physics education and various areas of research, such as chemistry and biology, in the future. | Ju, Young-Gu; Kim, Hyeon-Jun; Ko, Young-Min | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Phys Educ, 80 Daehak Ro, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Daegu Sci High Sch, 154 Dongdaegu Ro, Daegu 42110, South Korea | Ko, Youngmin/MBW-2005-2025 | 7202809560; 57219032355; 57219028341 | ygju@knu.ac.kr; | EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF PHYSICS | EUR J PHYS | 0143-0807 | 1361-6404 | 41 | 5 | SCIE | EDUCATION, SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINES;PHYSICS, MULTIDISCIPLINARY | 2020 | 0.781 | 85.5 | 0.2 | 2025-06-25 | 5 | 6 | microscope; photolithography; diffraction; liquid crystal; display | IMAGE | diffraction; display; liquid crystal; microscope; photolithography | Liquid crystals; Microscopes; Photomasks; Diffraction limits; Line pattern; Liquid crystal microdisplays; Liquid-crystals; Microdisplays; Objective lens; Optical performance; Reconfigurable; Theoretical limits; Underetching; Diffraction | English | 2020 | 2020-09 | 10.1088/1361-6404/ab988f | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Review | REVIEW OF TRENDS IN PHYSICS EDUCATION RESEARCH USING TOPIC MODELING | For both physicists who teach students in university and physics educators, how physics should be taught is a vital question. This study reviewed the trends of research in the field of physics education to identify the status of physics education research and help researchers in future studies. 2,959 articles were collected from the American Journal of Physics (AJP) and 745 articles from the Physics Review Physics Education Research (PRPER). Abstracts of the collected articles were used for the study. After preprocessing the texts of the abstracts, topics were extracted from the texts using topic modeling. The Late Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) model of Mallet was used for topic modeling. A total of 13 topics were extracted from the two journals. In recent years, "pedagogical content of knowledge (PCK)," "assessment" of achievement and "gender" of student have been topics of increasing interest; "teacher education" and "students' reasoning process" have been topics with continuous high interest, and "introductory physics" and "problem solving" in physics have been topics with decreasing interest. | Yun, Eunjeong | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Yun, Eunjeong/HTT-0809-2023 | 57023394700 | ejyun@knu.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF BALTIC SCIENCE EDUCATION | J BALT SCI EDUC | 1648-3898 | 19 | 3 | SSCI | EDUCATION & EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH | 2020 | 1.182 | 85.5 | 1.57 | 2025-06-25 | 18 | 35 | physics education research; physics education; research trend; topic modeling | SCIENCE-EDUCATION | Physics education; Physics education research; Research trend; Topic modeling | English | 2020 | 2020 | 10.33225/jbse/20.19.388 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Identification of Potential Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitors for Glaucoma Treatment Through an In-Silico Approach | Glaucoma is a neurodegenerative disease and second leading cause of blindness in western world. The disease is characterized by an elevated intraocular pressure. Carbonic anhydrase plays a major role by forming aqueous humor and its inhibition can reduce intraocular pressure by partially suppressing the secretion of aqueous humor. Thus in this study, we proposed to identify the potential novel compounds targeting the carbonic anhydrase. The diversity set-II molecules library consisting of 1880 compounds from National Cancer Institute were virtually screened (molecular docking) against human carbonic anhydrase protein. For the obtained best compounds, the nature of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO), which determine nucleophilic and electrophilic activity, were calculated by using density functional theory (DFT). The in silico screening suggested 5 best compounds that are effective in comparison to the dorzolamide, a widely used carbonic anhydrase inhibitor for glaucoma treatment. Of the five compounds, 4-nitro-7-[(1-oxidopyridin-1-ium-2-yl) thio] benzofurazan (ZINC01757986) exhibited the better binding affinity (- 9.2 cal/mol) in comparison to dorzolamide (- 7.2 kcal/mol). The DFT studies on novel identified compound, ZINC01757986 exhibited less HOMO-LUMO energy gap, low hardness and more softness (0.2305 eV, 0.1152 eV and 8.6805 eV) when compared to dorzalamide (0.9536 eV, 0.4768 eV and 2.0973 eV). These studies emphasize that ZINC01757986 can be used as potential carbonic anhydrase inhibitor and lead compounds for the development of an effective anti-glaucoma drug. The results emphasize that these compounds could be potential lead molecules for further structure-based discovery of antiglaucoma drugs. | Anitha, D.; Suganthi, M.; Gnanendra, S.; Govarthanan, M. | Mahendra Coll Engn, Ctr Adv Res, Dept ECE, Salem, Tamil Nadu, India; Yeungnam Univ, Dept Biotechnol, Coll Life & Appl Sci, Gyongsan, Gyeongbuk, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Environm Engn, Daegu, South Korea; Anna Univ, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India | Govarthanan, Muthusamy/C-1491-2014; Muthusamy, Govarthanan/C-1491-2014; shanmugam, gnanendra/AAT-2575-2021 | 57225690370; 24081183100; 56682650300; 54881927600 | suganthi.mecm@gmail.com;gnani.science@gmail.com;gova.muthu@gmail.com; | INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF PEPTIDE RESEARCH AND THERAPEUTICS | INT J PEPT RES THER | 1573-3149 | 1573-3904 | 26 | 4 | SCIE | BIOCHEMISTRY & MOLECULAR BIOLOGY | 2020 | 1.931 | 85.6 | 0.35 | 2025-06-25 | 7 | 6 | Anhydrase; Antiglaucoma; Carbonic; Glaucoma; Molecular docking | DOCKING; BRINZOLAMIDE; DERIVATIVES; DORZOLAMIDE; PROTEIN; DESIGN | Anhydrase; Antiglaucoma; Carbonic; Glaucoma; Molecular docking | 2 (4 nitrophenyl) 4 phenyl 2,3 dihydro 1,5 benzothiazepine; 2,1,3 benzoxadiazole, 7 (4 methyl 1 piperazinyl) 4 nitro, 1 oxide; 4 chloro 2 (3 phenylsulfanyl phenyl) quinoline 6 sulfonyl; 4 nitro 7 [(1 oxidopyridin 1 ium 2 yl) thio] benzofurazan; 8 (3 nitrophenyl) 9 nitroso 1,5,7 triazabicyclo[4.3.0]nona 2,4,6,8 tetraene; carbonate dehydratase inhibitor; dorzolamide; unclassified drug; Article; binding affinity; computer model; controlled study; density functional theory; drug determination; drug structure; electrophilicity; glaucoma; molecular docking; nucleophilicity; structure activity relation; three-dimensional imaging | English | 2020 | 2020-12 | 10.1007/s10989-019-10011-8 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Treatment Outcome in Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia With Hyperleukocytosis in the Yeungnam Region of Korea: A Multicenter Retrospective Study | Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) with hyperleukocytosis at diagnosis is associated with early morbidity and mortality due to complications of leukostasis. Of 535 pediatric ALL patients (January 2004 to December 2016 from the Yeungnam region of Korea), 72 (13.5%) patients with an initial white blood cell (WBC) count of >= 100x10(9)/L were included in this study, of whom 38 patients had extreme hyperleukocytosis (WBC>200x10(9)/L) at diagnosis. Fourteen patients (19.4%) had >= 1 early respiratory and neurologic complications during induction therapy. Relapse occurred in 8 patients (24.2%) with extreme hyperleukocytosis and in 1 patient (3.0%) with an initial WBC count of 100 to 200x10(9)/L (P=0.012). Estimated 10-year event-free survival rate (EFS) and overall survival rate were 78.3%+/- 8.4% and 82.6%+/- 7.7%, respectively. The 10-year EFS was significantly lower in patients with an initial WBC count of >200x10(9)/L than in those with an initial WBC count of 100 to 200x10(9)/L (65.7%+/- 13.4% vs. 91.2%+/- 7.9%; P=0.011). The 10-year EFS and overall survival rate did not differ significantly between patients with extreme hyperleukocytosis who received hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and those who received chemotherapy. In conclusion, pediatric ALL with hyperleukocytosis can lead to early complications and mortality. Patients with initial extreme hyperleukocytosis showed significantly poorer prognosis than those with WBC counts of 100 to 200x10(9)/L. | Park, Kyung Mi; Yang, Eu Jeen; Lee, Jae Min; Hah, Jeong Ok; Park, Sang Kyu; Park, Eun Sil; Lim, Jae Young; Kim, Ji Yoon; Park, Jikyoung; Shim, Ye Jee; Kong, Seom Gim; Lim, Young Tak | Pusan Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Pediat, Yangsan, South Korea; Gyeongsang Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Pediat, Jinju, South Korea; Ulsan Univ Hosp, Dept Pediat, Ulsan, South Korea; Yeungnam Univ, Coll Med, Dept Pediat, Daegu, South Korea; Daegu Fatima Hosp, Dept Pediat, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Pediat, Daegu, South Korea; Keimyung Univ, Sch Med, Dept Pediat, Daegu, South Korea; Inje Univ, Busan Paik Hosp, Dept Pediat, Busan, South Korea; Kosin Univ, Coll Med, Dept Pediat, Busan, South Korea | ; Park, Jung Hoon/CZZ-0090-2022; Lee, Jae Min/H-8475-2013 | 57196342718; 56594276100; 39261799700; 7003942219; 57209835309; 26030635800; 55555512300; 57205408095; 35332704400; 55906474200; 36982973800; 7402565128 | limyt@pusan.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF PEDIATRIC HEMATOLOGY ONCOLOGY | J PEDIAT HEMATOL ONC | 1077-4114 | 1536-3678 | 42 | 4 | SCIE | HEMATOLOGY;ONCOLOGY;PEDIATRICS | 2020 | 1.289 | 85.7 | 0.71 | 2025-06-25 | 11 | 15 | ALL; WBC; hyperleukocytosis; HSCT | BONE-MARROW-TRANSPLANTATION; 1ST REMISSION; EARLY COMPLICATIONS; CHILDREN; LEUKAPHERESIS; LEUKOSTASIS; MANAGEMENT; FEATURES | ALL; HSCT; hyperleukocytosis; WBC | Allografts; Child; Child, Preschool; Disease-Free Survival; Female; Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation; Humans; Infant; Leukocyte Count; Leukocytosis; Male; Precursor Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia-Lymphoma; Recurrence; Republic of Korea; Retrospective Studies; Survival Rate; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; allograft; blood; child; clinical trial; disease free survival; epidemiology; female; hematopoietic stem cell transplantation; human; infant; leukocyte count; leukocytosis; male; mortality; multicenter study; preschool child; recurrent disease; retrospective study; South Korea; survival rate | English | 2020 | 2020-05 | 10.1097/mph.0000000000001771 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | A sagittal reference line using the preoperative radiograph in total knee arthroplasty | Background: We evaluated the accuracy of a sagittal alignment of tibial component in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with the sagittal reference line using the preoperative radiograph. Methods: We evaluated 151 patients who underwent primary TKA with posterior cruciate substituting type implant. For 75 patients, the sagittal reference line using preoperative radiograph (group A) was used, while for 76 patients the sagittal reference using intraoperative fibular shaft line (group B) was used. The parallel line (line S) to the anatomical axis of the tibia in the lateral plain radiograph was used as the sagittal reference. The distance from line S to proximal tibia cutting area and to skin surface 20 cm distal to the cutting area was measured in preoperative radiographs. Next, the distance to the extramedullary guide rod was applied intraoperatively, reflecting the results. The intraoperative fibular shaft line was determined using the connecting line between the tip of fibular head and the lateral malleolus. The postoperative tibial component slope angle and the difference to the target slope angle were compared. Results: The difference to the target angle was 1.8 +/- 1.3 degrees in group A, whereas the difference was 2.5 +/- 1.4 degrees in group B (p = 0.04). The patients with difference within 3 degrees to the target angle were 78.7% in group A and 61.8% in group B (p = 0.024). Conclusion: The sagittal reference line using the preoperative lateral radiograph was helpful as a reference guide for the tibial slope in TKA. | Kim, Hee-June; Kim, Jeong-Woo; Shin, Ji-Yeon; Kim, Junekyu; Lee, Hyun-Joo; Park, Kyeong-Hyeon; Kyung, Hee-Soo | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Orthopaed Surg, 130 Dongduk Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Prevent Med, Daegu, South Korea | ; Park, KyeongHyeon/KEH-4919-2024 | 36463735200; 59291762600; 55567961600; 57849277400; 58838750100; 56969984400; 7004292406 | hskyung@knu.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY | J ORTHOP SURG-HONG K | 1022-5536 | 2309-4990 | 28 | 2 | SCIE | ORTHOPEDICS;SURGERY | 2020 | 1.118 | 86.0 | 0.15 | 2025-06-25 | 1 | 2 | lateral radiograph; sagittal reference; tibial slope; total knee arthroplasty | POSTERIOR TIBIAL SLOPE; ALIGNMENT; GUIDE; CUT | lateral radiograph; sagittal reference; tibial slope; total knee arthroplasty | Aged; Arthroplasty, Replacement, Knee; Female; Fibula; Humans; Knee Joint; Male; Postoperative Period; Radiography; Tibia; aged; anthropometric parameters; Article; controlled study; female; fibula head; fibula shaft; human; intraoperative period; knee radiography; lateral malleolus; major clinical study; male; measurement accuracy; peroperative care; posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction; preoperative evaluation; proximal tibia; reference value; retrospective study; sagittal vertical axis; skin surface; tibia; total knee arthroplasty; diagnostic imaging; fibula; knee; knee replacement; postoperative period; procedures; radiography; surgery | English | 2020 | 2020-05 | 10.1177/2309499020924143 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Analysis of Adult Patients with Tinea Capitis in Southeastern Korea | Background: Tinea capitis is a cutaneous infection of dermatophytes and predominant in children. Although tinea capitis in Korea is controlled by oral antifungal medications and concerted public health initiatives, it's still a health issue. Objective: To investigate changes in the epidemiological and mycological characteristics of adult patients with tinea capitis in southeastern Korea. Methods: Using medical records from Kyungpook National University Hospital and Catholic Skin Clinic from 1989 to 2018, we retrospectively investigated the epidemiological and mycological characteristics of 266 adult patients (aged over 20) with tinea capitis. Results: Among total 266 patients, 239 were KOH-positive. The annual incidence of tinea capitis ranged from 3 to 18 between 1989 and 2018. Of the total, 54 (20.30%) were male and 212 (79.70%) were female. Eighty patients (30.08%) were in their seventies, the most commonly affected age group. Of the remaining, 58 (21.80%) were in their sixties, and 41 (15.41%) in eighties. Among all, 77 (28.95%) visited the hospital in summer, 72 (27.07%) in spring, 64 (24.06%) in winter, and 53 (19.92%) in fall. Dermatophytes were cultured from 171 patients. Microsporum canis was the most common dermatophyte (42.48%), while Trichophyton rubrum was the second (15.79%). Of the 266 patients, 186 (69.92%) lived in urban areas and 80 (30.08%) in rural areas. Conclusion: The epidemiological and mycological characteristics of adult patients with tinea capitis were different from those of children in terms of annual incidence, sex distribution, and isolated dermatophytes. These results provide useful information for the treatment and prevention of tinea capitis. | Lee, Hyun Ji; Kim, Jun Young; Park, Kyung Duck; Jang, Yong Hyun; Lee, Seok-Jong; Bang, Yong Jun; Jun, Jae Bok; Lee, Weon Ju | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Dept Dermatol, Sch Med, Daegu, South Korea; Catholic Skin Clin, Inst Med Mycol, Daegu, South Korea | ; Lee, Joong/A-5417-2013 | 57207758693; 35310922800; 55767995700; 57016046400; 56013454400; 8235433700; 35743280000; 24474659000 | weonju@knu.ac.kr; | ANNALS OF DERMATOLOGY | ANN DERMATOL | 1013-9087 | 2005-3894 | 32 | 2 | SCIE | DERMATOLOGY | 2020 | 1.444 | 86.2 | 0.79 | 2025-06-25 | 7 | 10 | Dermatophytosis; Epidemiology; Microsporum canis; Tinea capitis | DOUBLE-BLIND; ITRACONAZOLE; GRISEOFULVIN; TERBINAFINE | Dermatophytosis; Epidemiology; Microsporum canis; Tinea capitis | itraconazole; terbinafine; adult; aged; antifungal therapy; Arthroderma gypseum; Arthroderma otae; Article; diabetes mellitus; falling; female; fungus isolation; human; hypertension; kerion; major clinical study; male; Microsporum canis infection; middle aged; nonhuman; onychomycosis; retrospective study; rural area; seborrheic dermatitis; sex ratio; South Korea; spring; summer; tinea capitis; tinea corporis; tinea cruris; tinea faciei; tinea manuum; tinea pedis; Trichophyton mentagrophytes; Trichophyton rubrum; Trichophyton rubrum infection; Trichophyton tonsurans; Trichophyton verrucosum; urban area; very elderly; winter; young adult | English | 2020 | 2020-04 | 10.5021/ad.2020.32.2.109 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |

| ○ | ○ | Article | BMP4-Induced Differentiation of Human Hair Follicle Neural Crest Stem Cells into Precursor Melanocytes from Hair Follicle Bulge | Background: Vitiligo is a skin depigmentation disorder, for which, repigmentation treatment with combined follicular unit extraction (FUE) graft and narrowband ultraviolet B (NBUVB) is considered superior to micro-punch graft therapy. BMP4 can induce MITF expression in Neural crest stem cells (NCSCs), and alpha-MSH subsequently promotes the differentiation of MITF-expressing cells along the melanocyte lineage. Objective: To investigate why FUE grafting is superior to epidermal mini grafting in promoting hair follicles (HF) melanocyte cell survival and longevity, we planned the in vitro experiments HF bulge NCSCs differentiate into melanocyte precursors under the co-treatment of BMP4 and alpha-MSH. Methods: Cells that migrated from the HF bulge of scalp were cultured and assessed using immunofluorescence. Transcriptome analysis was performed on RNA sequencing results. Results: Basic fibroblast growth factor promotes the proliferation and survival of NCSCs, with spontaneous differentiation into SOX10+/SOX2+ glial progenitors, but not into SOX10+/MITF+ precursor melanocytes. Both BMP4 and alpha-MSH promoted the differentiation into MITF-expressing cells. RNA sequencing revealed a downregulation in neuregulin-1 (NRG1) and sermaphorin 3C (SEMA3C), and upregulation in WNT10A. Furthermore, FUE grafting had a source of reservoir melanocytes superior to mini- grafting in treatment for vitiligo. Conclusion: We obtained SOX10+/ MITF+ precursor melanocytes through an induction of differentiation along the melanocyte lineage by BMP4 and alpha-MSH. According to the RNA sequencing results that NRG1 and SEMA3C were downregulated and WNT10A was upregulated, we postulated that HF NCSCs differentiated into melanocyte by co-treatment of BMP4 and alpha-MSH. Overall, FUE grafting is a more robust and substitutive treatment option for vitiligo. | Yoon, Jung-Ho; Kim, Ho-Jin; Kim, Jung-Hwan; Kim, Tae-Hoon; Seo, Chang-Hoon; Sung, Yeong-Kwan; Kim, Ki-Ho | Dong A Univ, Dept Dermatol, Coll Med, 32 Daesingongwon Ro, Busan 49201, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Immunol, Daegu, South Korea | 57199982109; 57201896367; 57207439556; 56739541900; 57191539606; 55663365300; 57190065243 | khkim@dau.ac.kr; | ANNALS OF DERMATOLOGY | ANN DERMATOL | 1013-9087 | 2005-3894 | 32 | 5 | SCIE | DERMATOLOGY | 2020 | 1.444 | 86.2 | 0.26 | 2025-06-25 | 5 | 4 | Hair follicle; Melanocytes; Neural crest; Neuregulin-1; Stem cells | VITILIGO; ACTIVATION; EXPRESSION; REPIGMENTATION; SKIN | Hair follicle; Melanocytes; Neural crest; Neuregulin-1; Stem cells | alpha intermedin; bone morphogenetic protein 4; fibroblast growth factor 2; microphthalmia associated transcription factor; neu differentiation factor; RNA; transcription factor Sox10; transcription factor Sox2; transcriptome; Wnt10a protein; aged; Article; cell differentiation; cell lineage; cell migration; cell proliferation; cell survival; controlled study; down regulation; hair follicle; hair follicle bulge; hair transplantation; human; human cell; human cell culture; human tissue; immunofluorescence; in vitro study; longevity; male; melanocyte; narrow band imaging; neural crest; retrospective study; RNA sequencing; scalp; stem cell; ultraviolet B radiation; ultraviolet phototherapy; upregulation; vitiligo | English | 2020 | 2020-10 | 10.5021/ad.2020.32.5.409 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||

| ○ | ○ | Article | Cesarean delivery may be protective against neoplasms of the uterine cervix in women of childbearing age | Parity has been reported as a risk factor for cervical cancer. However, no study has investigated the risk of neoplasms of the uterine cervix according to the delivery type. We carried out a retrospective cohort study using nationwide data from the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Database to investigate whether cesarean delivery might be associated with less development of neoplasms of the uterine cervix than a vaginal delivery in women of childbearing age. Women aged 20-44 years, who had undergone vaginal or cesarean deliveries in 2009 were included as subjects. Two individual datasets for carcinomain situ(CIS) and cancer of the cervix were followed for 8 years until either disease outcomes or 31 December 2016. In total, 260 438 and 132 232 women had undergone vaginal only and cesarean only deliveries, respectively. There were 1505 and 423 new cases of CIS and cervical cancer, respectively, with median follow-up durations of 89.9 and 90.0 months for vaginal delivery and cesarean delivery, respectively. The unadjusted CIS risk ratio for cesarean delivery compared with vaginal delivery was 0.90 [95% confidence interval, (CI), 0.80-1.00]. After adjusting for categorical age, residential area, facility types, and number of visits to obstetrics and gynecology clinics, it was 0.83 (95% CI, 0.75-0.93). The unadjusted and adjusted risk ratios for cervical cancer for cesarean delivery were 0.98 (95% CI, 0.80-1.20) and 0.87 (95% CI, 0.71-1.08), respectively. Cesarean delivery may be more protective against CIS than vaginal delivery in women of childbearing age. | Choi, Won-Il; Jeong, Jihyeon; Lee, Dong Yoon; Shim, Hye-Young; Lee, Choong Won | Keimyung Univ, Med Res Ctr, Dept Internal Med, Sch Med, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Stat, Daegu, South Korea; Eulji Univ, Dept Prevent Med, Sch Med, Daejeon, South Korea; Sungso Hosp, Dept Occupat & Environm Med, 99 Seodongmun Ro, Andong 36690, South Korea | Lee, DongYoon/KFR-2934-2024; CHOI, WON/J-1665-2012 | 7402516121; 57209972988; 57309281000; 56176079800; 57196256306 | prevmi@gmail.com; | EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF CANCER PREVENTION | EUR J CANCER PREV | 0959-8278 | 1473-5709 | 29 | 6 | SCIE | ONCOLOGY | 2020 | 2.497 | 86.2 | 0.15 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 2 | carcinomain situ; cesarean section; childbearing age; uterine cervical neoplasms | HUMAN-PAPILLOMAVIRUS; INFECTION; PARITY | carcinoma in situ; cesarean section; childbearing age; uterine cervical neoplasms | Adult; Cesarean Section; Female; Follow-Up Studies; Humans; Incidence; Parity; Pregnancy; Prognosis; Republic of Korea; Retrospective Studies; Risk Factors; Uterine Cervical Neoplasms; Young Adult; adult; cesarean section; female; follow up; human; incidence; parity; pathology; pregnancy; procedures; prognosis; retrospective study; risk factor; South Korea; uterine cervix tumor; young adult | English | 2020 | 2020-11 | 10.1097/cej.0000000000000555 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | Article | Eosinophilic Panniculitis Following the Subcutaneous Injection of Exenatide Extended-Release | Exenatide extended-release was recently developed as an antidiabetic drug; it acts as a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist. A 54-year-old male visited our clinic complaining of a subcutaneous tender nodule on his left thigh that had developed over the course of 1 week. The patient had received exenatide extended-release injections for 5 months to treat diabetes. A histopathologic examination showed septal and lobular panniculitis with lymphohistio-cyte and eosinophil infiltration. The patient was diagnosed with eosinophilic panniculitis (EP) due to exenatide extended-release injection. EP is a rare type of panniculitis characterized by a prominent infiltrate of eosinophils in the subcutaneous fat layer. It is a histologic reaction pattern that is associated with various clinical conditions. Among the injection-site reactions reported in exenatide extended-release users, injection-site nodules occur infrequently. Clinicians who treat diabetics who use exenatide extended-release should be aware of the possible occurrence of injection-site nodules. | Ko, Jung-Woo; Park, Kyung-Duck; Lee, Young; Lee, Jeung-Hoon; Hong, Dong-Kyun | Chungnam Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Dermatol, Daejeon, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Dermatol, Sch Med, 680 Gukchaebosang Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea | Lee, Chang-Soo/B-1045-2011; Lee, Young/AFK-8466-2022 | gdpk1217@naver.com;chupee@hanmail.net; | ANNALS OF DERMATOLOGY | ANN DERMATOL | 1013-9087 | 2005-3894 | 32 | 3 | SCIE | DERMATOLOGY | 2020 | 1.444 | 86.2 | 4 | Diabetes mellitus; Exenatide; Panniculitis | RICH GRANULOMATOUS PANNICULITIS | English | 2020 | 2020-06 | 10.5021/ad.2020.32.3.230 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Increased Expression of Interleukin-12 in Lesional Skin of Atopic Dermatitis Patients with Psoriasiform Features on Histopathology: An Immunohistochemical Study | Background: Based on clinical and genetic differences, atopic dermatitis (AD) and psoriasis have been classified in two different diseases, but recently, some authors regarded them as in one spectrum. The histological similarities including epidermal hyperplasia between chronic stages of AD and psoriasis supports the presence of two diseases in one spectrum. Objective: We investigated clinical and immunohistopathological characteristics of adult Korean patients with AD showing psoriasiform chronic dermatitis on histopathology. Methods: In total, 59 Korean patients with chronic AD were enrolled. Clinical, laboratory, and histopathological features were compared between AD patients with psoriasiform features and those with non-psoriasiform chronic dermatitis features on histology. In addition, immunohistopathological characteristics were analyzed using antibodies for key regulatory and effector cytokines in psoriasis. Results: Fifteen patients (25.4%) showed a more "psoriasiform" histological appearance. The lesions in patients with psoriasiform features often showed clearer boundaries and noticeable scaling. The interleukin (IL)-23 expression in the psoriasiform chronic dermatitis group was not different from that in the psoriasis group, but the IL-17 expression was less than that in the psoriasis group. In the case of IL-12, multiple dermal inflammatory cells with dendrites were stained in the psoriasiform chronic dermatitis group compared with the 2 other non-psoriasiform subgroups. Conclusion: The results suggest that IL-12 secreted from dermal inflammatory cells might be one of the important factors associated with the formation of psoriasiform features in chronic AD. However, further studies are required to better define the specific role of IL-12. | Lim, Hyun Jung; Han, Man-Hoon; Lee, Eun Hye; Eun, Dong Hyuk; Kim, Jun Young; Lee, Weon Ju; Lee, Seok-Jong; Kim, Do Won; Park, Tae-In; Kim, Sang-Hyun; Jang, Yong Hyun | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Dermatol, 130 Dongdeok Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Pathol, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Pharmacol, 130 Dongdeok Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea | Lee, Joong/A-5417-2013; Kim, Sang-Hyun/KQU-4555-2024 | 55340814700; 57194067936; 57189661699; 57190585603; 35310922800; 24474659000; 56013454400; 57206101464; 7401801814; 57210450420; 57016046400 | shkim72@knu.ac.kr;yhjang@knu.ac.kr; | ANNALS OF DERMATOLOGY | ANN DERMATOL | 1013-9087 | 2005-3894 | 32 | 1 | SCIE | DERMATOLOGY | 2020 | 1.444 | 86.2 | 0.26 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 2 | Atopic dermatitis; Cytokines; Endophenotype; Psoriasis | USTEKINUMAB | Atopic dermatitis; Cytokines; Endophenotype; Psoriasis | gamma interferon; immunoglobulin E; interleukin 12; interleukin 17; interleukin 22; interleukin 23; adult; Article; atopic dermatitis; chronic disease; clinical feature; controlled study; dendrite; eosinophil; eosinophil count; epidermis hyperplasia; histopathology; human; human cell; human tissue; immunohistochemistry; immunophenotyping; inflammatory cell; Korean (people); major clinical study; neutrophil; parakeratosis; protein expression; psoriasis; skin biopsy | English | 2020 | 2020-02 | 10.5021/ad.2020.32.1.31 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
