| ○ | ○ | Article | Stilbene ligand-based metal-organic frameworks for efficient dye adsorption and nitrobenzene detection | The technological developments of metal-organic framework (MOF) for selective adsorption and sensing have been achieved in recent years. Herein, we report two stilbene-based MOFs, denoted as Zn-3(SDC)(3)(bpy) (1) and Zn(SDC)(bpy)center dot 2DMF (2). MOFs 1 and 2 were synthesized in pure form by controlling the organic linker ratio and were used for the adsorptive removal of dye molecules. Despite their low adsorption capacities, the MOFs were more selective toward cationic dye (methylene blue) than anionic dye (methyl orange). The unique fluorescent property of the MOFs was harnessed for the sensing of harmful organic molecules. Interestingly, the fluorescence of 1 ' was quenched by aromatic analytes containing amine and nitro functional groups. However, 2 ' only showed modest fluorescence quenching by nitrobenzene. The quenching efficiency of nitrobenzene had a low detection limit for 1 ' and 2 ' (14.28 and 25.42 mu M, respectively). These MOFs can be used as adsorbents and highly sensitive chemical sensors. | Kim, Jiyun; Na, Chanju; Son, Younghu; Prabu, Mani; Yoon, Minyoung | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Green Nano Mat Res Ctr, Dept Chem, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Green Nano Mat Res Ctr, Dept Chem, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Son, Younghu/AAX-9531-2021; M, PRABU/AAA-7036-2020 | 57220129554; 58070283200; 57216839175; 58192533800; 25222186500 | myyoon@knu.ac.kr; | BULLETIN OF THE KOREAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY | B KOREAN CHEM SOC | 0253-2964 | 1229-5949 | 44 | 6 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, MULTIDISCIPLINARY | 2023 | 2.3 | 53.0 | 1.29 | 2025-06-25 | 14 | 14 | dye adsorption; interpenetration; metal-organic framework; photoluminescence; sensor | AROMATIC-AMINES | dye adsorption; interpenetration; metal–organic framework; photoluminescence; sensor | Adsorption; Azo dyes; Fluorescence quenching; Molecules; Synthesis (chemical); Adsorptive removal; Dye molecule; Dyes adsorptions; Interpenetration; Metalorganic frameworks (MOFs); Organic linkers; Selective adsorption; Selective sensing; Synthesised; Technological development; Nitrobenzene | English | 2023 | 2023-06 | 10.1002/bkcs.12683 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Synthesis and biological investigation of protein phosphatase 2A-activating compounds with dimeric tail as non-small cell lung cancer cell death agents | FTY720 exerts an anticancer effect through the activation of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), which acts as a tumor suppressor, and inhibits SK1 activity. However, FTY720 taken into the body is phosphorylated by endogenous SK2. The structure of FTY720 is well-studied as a basis for developing SK inhibitors and PP2A activators. We synthesized analogs of PF-543 with a dimeric tail structure and reported the efficacy of SK1 inhibition. The compounds with this structure had improved anticancer activity and stability compared with PF-543. To confirm whether the dimeric tail structure could be applied as a PP2A-active material, we synthesized four types of compounds with a dimeric tail structure and confirmed the anticancer activity and PP2A activation in A549 non-small cell lung cancer cells. Compounds 2 and 4 were more cytotoxic to A549 cells than RB005, and induced similar levels of cytotoxic and PP2A activation as FTY720. | Kim, Su Bin; Lee, Taeho; Oh, Yoon Sin; Park, Eun-Young; Baek, Dong Jae | Mokpo Natl Univ, Coll Pharm, Jeonnam, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Res Inst Pharmaceut Sci, Coll Pharm, Daegu, South Korea; Eulji Univ, Dept Food & Nutr, Seongnam, South Korea; Mokpo Natl Univ, Coll Pharm, Jeonnam 58554, South Korea | 57217012276; 57204032003; 34467778200; 56680548000; 57200593717 | parkey@mokpo.ac.kr;dbaek@mokpo.ac.kr; | BULLETIN OF THE KOREAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY | B KOREAN CHEM SOC | 0253-2964 | 1229-5949 | 44 | 4 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, MULTIDISCIPLINARY | 2023 | 2.3 | 53.0 | 0.09 | 2025-06-25 | 1 | 1 | FTY720; non-small cell lung cancer; protein phosphatase 2A; PF-543; sphingosine kinase | INHIBITORS; FTY720; METABOLISM; DISCOVERY | FTY720; non-small cell lung cancer; PF-543; protein phosphatase 2A; sphingosine kinase | Biological organs; Biosynthesis; Cancer cells; Cell death; Diseases; Phosphatases; Anticancer activities; Cytotoxic; Fty720; Lung cancer cells; Non small cell lung cancer; PF-543; Protein phosphatase 2A; Sphingosine kinase; Synthesised; Tail structure; Chemical activation | English | 2023 | 2023-04 | 10.1002/bkcs.12661 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | The importance of pH for the formation of stable and active quercetin-polyamidoamine dendrimer complex | The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of pH on the complexation of quercetin and polyamidoamaine (PAMAM) dendrimers, which can exert antioxidant activity in aqueous solution. The therapeutic use of quercetin has been limited due to its low water solubility and bioavailability. In this study, quercetin was complexed with generation 4 PAMAM (G4) in different buffers at pH 4-9, with pH 6 showing the best results in terms of solubility and stability. The solubility of quercetin in 0.1 M phosphate buffer at pH 6.0 containing 1% G4 was over 1 mg/ml. The antioxidant and neuroprotective activities of water-soluble G4-quercetin complex (G4-Q) were comparable to those of free quercetin dissolved in methanol. In conclusion, this study indicates that the complexation of quercetin with PAMAM dendrimers was optimized at pH 6 and the complex exhibits good water solubility, strong antioxidant activity, and neuroprotective activity. | Kim, Hong Taek; Yoo, Miri; Yang, Eun-Ju; Song, Kyung-Sik; Park, Eun Ji; Na, Dong Hee | Chung Ang Univ, Coll Pharm, Seoul, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Pharm, Daegu, South Korea; D&D Pharmatech, Seongnam, Gyeonggi, South Korea; D&D Pharmatech, Seongnam 13486, South Korea; Chung Ang Univ, Coll Pharm, Seoul 06974, South Korea | 58059434900; 58059699400; 57191204368; 13310139000; 57760110400; 7103210503 | ejpark@ddpharmatech.com;dhna@cau.ac.kr; | BULLETIN OF THE KOREAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY | B KOREAN CHEM SOC | 0253-2964 | 1229-5949 | 44 | 4 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, MULTIDISCIPLINARY | 2023 | 2.3 | 53.0 | 0.74 | 2025-06-25 | 6 | 8 | antioxidant activity; neuroprotection; polyamidoamine dendrimers; quercetin; solubility | FLAVONOIDS; BINDING | antioxidant activity; neuroprotection; polyamidoamine dendrimers; quercetin; solubility | Antioxidants; Biochemistry; Dendrimers; Flavonoids; Phenols; Antioxidant activities; Dendrimer complexes; Effect of pH; Low water; Neuroprotection; Neuroprotective activity; Polyamidoamine dendrimers; Quercetin; Therapeutic use; Water solubilities; Solubility | English | 2023 | 2023-04 | 10.1002/bkcs.12669 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Use of ultrasound in gradient elution of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon mixtures by HPLC | Stainless steel (SS) and polyether ether ketone (PEEK) C18 columns were submerged in an ultrasonic bath operating at a frequency of 36 kHz to separate a mixture of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), including naphthalene, anthracene, and pyrene, using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultrasound radiation applied at intensities ranging from 0% to 100% of the 900 W output power. Sono-gradient elution was used to ultrasonically irradiate the mixture at specific points during the elution to improve the separation factor by increasing the interval between the target peaks and shorten the analysis time by reducing the retention time of the desired PAH peak. | Jeong, Young Han; Eun, Danbi; Van Kien, Nguyen; Seog, David Jin Han; Ryoo, Jae Jeong | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Chem, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Chem Educ, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 36763733200; 57553152900; 55735049000; 58174646400; 7004847725 | jjryoo@knu.ac.kr; | BULLETIN OF THE KOREAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY | B KOREAN CHEM SOC | 0253-2964 | 1229-5949 | 44 | 7 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, MULTIDISCIPLINARY | 2023 | 2.3 | 53.0 | 0.28 | 2025-06-25 | 3 | 3 | polyether ether ketone (PEEK) column; sono-gradient; ultrasound-assisted chromatography | CHROMATOGRAPHY; TEMPERATURE; LIQUID | polyether ether ketone (PEEK) column; sono-gradient; ultrasound-assisted chromatography | Column chromatography; Ethers; High performance liquid chromatography; Mineral oils; Naphthalene; Pyrene; Ultrasonics; Gradient elution; High-performance liquid chromatography; Hydrocarbons mixtures; Output power; Polyether ether ketone column; Separation factors; Sono-gradient; Ultrasonic bath; Ultrasound radiation; Ultrasound-assisted chromatography; Ketones | English | 2023 | 2023-07 | 10.1002/bkcs.12700 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Workplace deviance, emotional state and reparative behaviors: task visibility as a boundary condition in a mediated moderation model | PurposeGrounding upon moral cleansing and self-completion theories, this paper examines how workplace deviant behavior motivates employees to engage in subsequent compensatory actions-organizational citizenship behavior and prosocial behavior-triggered by the state of moral emotion - guilt. The article also explores and tests the role of task characteristics-task visibility-as a boundary condition in the guilt-mediated relationship between deviant employee behavior and compensatory behaviors.Design/methodology/approachA survey study on 396 full-time employees working for organizations operating in various industries is conducted to test the hypothesized mediated moderation model empirically. The authors conducted a structural equation modeling to provide empirical evidence for the proposed hypotheses.FindingsOffering both theoretical and practical implications, the findings of the study revealed that a deviance-triggered state of guilt encourages subsequent reparative actions, such as organizational citizenship behavior and prosocial behaviors. The results also showed that the level of task visibility had a significant role as a boundary condition in the relationships between workplace deviant behavior and reparative behaviors.Originality/valueUnlike previous research, which mainly found a negative connection between harming actions (i.e. deviant behavior) and helping behaviors (i.e. citizenship and prosocial behavior), this paper investigated and found how the state of guilt could be a mediator to link workplace deviant behavior to organizational citizenship behavior and prosocial behavior through moral cleansing and self-completion processes. | Dadaboyev, Sherzodbek Murodilla Ugli; Baek, Yoonjung; Paek, Soyon | Tashkent State Univ Econ, Dept Int Business Management, Tashkent, Uzbekistan; AKFA Univ, Sch Business, Tashkent, Uzbekistan; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Business Adm, Daegu, South Korea; Yonsei Univ, Div Business Adm, Mirae Campus, Wonju, South Korea | ; Dadaboyev, Sherzodbek/JQV-8677-2023 | 57210810791; 57204128390; 55346061400 | dadaboyev.sh08@gmail.com;yjbaek@knu.ac.kr;soyonpaek@yonsei.ac.kr; | BALTIC JOURNAL OF MANAGEMENT | BALT J MANAG | 1746-5265 | 1746-5273 | 18 | 5 | SSCI | MANAGEMENT | 2023 | 2.4 | 53.2 | 0.45 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 4 | Workplace deviant behavior; Organizational citizenship behavior; Prosocial behavior; State of guilt; Task visibility | COMMON METHOD BIAS; ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE; CITIZENSHIP BEHAVIOR; WORK BEHAVIOR; MORAL SELF; VALUES; SHAME; RECOMMENDATIONS; PERFORMANCE; PEOPLE | Organizational citizenship behavior; Prosocial behavior; State of guilt; Task visibility; Workplace deviant behavior | English | 2023 | 2023-11-15 | 10.1108/bjm-07-2022-0271 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Comprehensiveness of cardiac rehabilitation program in Korea: a nation-wide survey result | BackgroundCardiac rehabilitation (CR) is an essential component in secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Current guidelines recommend that the program should be comprehensive including multidisciplinary behavioral intervention, not only exercise training. While the utilization of CR is gradually increasing, the comprehensiveness of the program has not been systemically evaluated in Korea.MethodsDuring the year 2020, nation-wide survey was done to evaluate the current status of CR in Korea. Survey was done by web-based structured questionnaire. Survey was requested to 164 hospitals performing percutaneous coronary intervention.ResultsAmong 164 hospitals, 47 (28.7%) hospitals had CR programs. In hospitals with CR, multidisciplinary intervention other than exercise-based program was provided only partially: nutritional counseling (63%), vocational counseling for return to work (39%), stress management (31%), psychological evaluation (18%). Personnel for CR was commonly not dedicated to the program or even absent: (percentage of dedicated, concurrent with other work, absent) physical therapist (59, 41, 0%), nurse (31, 69, 0%), dietician (6, 65, 29%), clinical psychologist (0, 37, 63%).ConclusionComprehensiveness of CR in Korea is suboptimal and human resource for it is poorly disposed. More awareness of current status by both clinicians and health policy makers is needed and insurance reimbursement for educational program should be improved. | Sung, Jidong; Kim, Chul; Han, Jae-Young; Jee, Sungju; Lee, Jang Woo; Lee, Jong Hwa; Kim, Won-Seok; Bang, Heui Je; Baek, Sora; Joa, Kyung-Lim; Kim, Ae Ryoung; Lee, So Young; Kim, Jihee; Kim, Chung Reen; Kwon, Oh Pum | Sungkyunkwan Univ, Dept Med, Div Cardiol, Sch Med, 115 Irwon Ro, Seoul 06355, South Korea; Inje Univ, Dept Rehabil Med, Sanggye Paik Hosp, Seoul 01757, South Korea; Chonnam Natl Univ, Med Sch & Hosp, Dept Phys Med & Rehabil, Gwangju 61469, South Korea; Chungnam Natl Univ, Dept Rehabil Med, Coll Med, Daejeon 35015, South Korea; Ilsan Hosp, Dept Phys Med & Rehabil, Natl Hlth Insurance Serv, Goyang 10444, South Korea; Dong A Univ, Dept Phys Med & Rehabil, Coll Med, Busan 49201, South Korea; Seoul Natl Univ, Dept Rehabil Med, Bundang Hosp, Seongnam 13620, South Korea; Chungbuk Natl Univ Hosp, Dept Rehabil Med, Cheongju 28644, South Korea; Kangwon Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Rehabil Med, Chunchon 24289, South Korea; Inha Univ Hosp, Dept Rehabil Med, Incheon 22332, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Rehabil Med, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Jeju Natl Univ, Dept Rehabil Med, Sch Med, Jeju 63241, South Korea; Wonkwang Univ, Sch Med, Dept Rehabil Med, Iksan 54538, South Korea; Ulsan Univ, Coll Med, Dept Rehabil Med, Ulsan 44033, South Korea | Lee, Jaewon/N-9064-2013; Joa, Kyung-Lim/ABB-3860-2020; Han, Jae-Young/AAV-1100-2021; , 김원석/AAJ-2334-2020 | 57221027209; 55936526100; 15765035600; 56487143900; 55999572900; 55690046100; 57028735900; 55246577800; 55875523200; 55245910100; 57196257330; 57202327370; 55822889900; 35848509700; 55822295300 | jdsung@skku.edu; | BMC CARDIOVASCULAR DISORDERS | BMC CARDIOVASC DISOR | 1471-2261 | 23 | 1 | SCIE | CARDIAC & CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEMS | 2023 | 2 | 53.4 | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 0 | Cardiac rehabilitation; Comprehensive health care; Health education | PREVENTION | Cardiac rehabilitation; Comprehensive health care; Health education | Cardiac Rehabilitation; Cardiovascular Diseases; Heart Diseases; Humans; Republic of Korea; Surveys and Questionnaires; Article; awareness; cardiovascular disease; comorbidity; dietitian; educational status; exercise; health care policy; health education; heart rate; heart rehabilitation; heart transplantation; human; human experiment; multicenter study; nurse; nutritional counseling; percutaneous coronary intervention; physiotherapist; questionnaire; reimbursement; risk factor; stress management; structured questionnaire; cardiovascular disease; epidemiology; heart disease; South Korea | English | 2023 | 2023-04-06 | 10.1186/s12872-023-03204-z | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Effects of Cu⁺ ion implantation on band gap and Raman shift of Cu2ZnSnS4 thin films | In this study, shifts in the band gap and position of the main Raman peak of Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) thin films were analyzed. These shifts were caused by residual tensile strain originating from artificially implanted Cu+ ions on the CZTS thin films. Cu+ ions were implanted at various doses in the CZTS thin films. The residual strain increased linearly as the logarithmic dose of Cu+ ions increased. According to the Raman spectrum analysis, the CZTS thin films had kesterite order structures. The band gap and the shift of the main Raman peak, P-1, are linear functions of the residual strain and are linearly related to each other. A larger residual strain led to larger decreases of 1.50 eV and 337.5 cm(-1) in the band gap and position of the main Raman peak (P-1), respectively. | Kim, Chan; Hong, Sungwook | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Phys, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Daegu Univ, Dept Phys Educ, Gyongsan 38453, South Korea | 54684058600; 55978572800 | swhong@daegu.ac.kr; | CURRENT APPLIED PHYSICS | CURR APPL PHYS | 1567-1739 | 1878-1675 | 50 | SCIE | MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.4 | 53.4 | 0.46 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 4 | Band gap tuning; CZTS; Residual strain; Williamson-Hall plot; Solar cell; Raman shift | OPTICAL-PROPERTIES; CRYSTALLITE SIZE; ELASTIC STRAIN; ENERGY; DEPENDENCE; LAYER | Band gap tuning; CZTS; Raman shift; Residual strain; Solar cell; Williamson-Hall plot | Copper compounds; Ions; Solar cells; Spectrum analysis; Tensile strain; Thin films; Tin compounds; Zinc compounds; Band gap shifts; Band-gap tuning; Cu ions; CZTS; CZTS thin films; Ions implantation; Raman peak; Raman shift; Residual strains; Williamson-Hall plot; Energy gap | English | 2023 | 2023-06 | 10.1016/j.cap.2023.04.008 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Electron microscopy and X-ray microanalysis of Pinus thunbergii needles: Stomatal penetration by seawater and solutes | Seawater salt deposition was investigated in the needles of Pinus thunbergii trees growing in the coastal area of Pohang, Korea. Both green asymptomatic and brown necrotized needles were air-dried and processed for field-emission scanning electron microscopy and X-ray microanalysis. Seawater salt crystals appeared randomly deposited on the asymptomatic needles. No distinct epicuticular waxes were found in the stomata or on the needle surface. The salt crystals, which varied in size, were observed in the stomatal chambers as well as on the apertures of the Florin rings, and similar crystals were also observed on the necrotized brown needles. Sodium (Na) and chloride (Cl) were prevalent on the needles and mostly co-localized in the crystals. Magnesium was partially co-localized with Cl, but often co-occurred with potassium. Depending on the elemental composition of salts, two types of salt deposition were observed on the needles: (i) the coffee-ring pattern and (ii) the uniform pattern. The apparent NaCl crystal depositions in the stomatal chambers indicated the stomatal penetration by seawater and solutes in the seawater-sprayed needles of P. thunbergii. These results provide insights into the initial phase of seawater salt-induced injury occurring through the stomatal pathway in pine species distributed in coastal areas. | Park, Junhyung; Seo, Dahye; Kim, Ki Woo | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Ecol & Environm Syst, Sangju 37224, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Tree Diagnost Ctr, Sangju, South Korea | Kim, Ki Woo/AAC-5623-2022 | 57202928407; 57218319875; 57201369889 | kiwoo@knu.ac.kr; | FOREST PATHOLOGY | FOREST PATHOL | 1437-4781 | 1439-0329 | 53 | 6 | SCIE | FORESTRY | 2023 | 1.3 | 53.4 | 0.2 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 1 | crystal; Pinus thunbergii; salt-induced injury; seawater; stomata | EPICUTICULAR WAX; FLORIN RINGS; SPRAY INJURY; DEPOSITION | crystal; Pinus thunbergii; salt-induced injury; seawater; stomata | North Kyongsang; Pohang; South Korea; injury; penetration; pine; scanning electron microscopy; seawater; stomata; X-ray analysis | English | 2023 | 2023-12 | 10.1111/efp.12838 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Long and flexible atmospheric pressure plasma jet probes for operation in humid environments | Herein, we describe a new flexible atmospheric pressure plasma jet device composed of hollow-core optical fibers and introduce two potential applications of the device: endoscopic plasma treatment and decomposition of aqueous phosphorus compounds. The proposed device is 1.6 m long and highly flexible, has a small probe size of several hundred micrometers, and spatially separates the plasma jet from the electrical input, making it very suitable for treatment through the biopsy channel of a conventional endoscope. Because the wire electrode of the fabricated atmospheric pressure plasma jet device is thoroughly isolated inside the hollow of the optical fiber, the device produces a plasma column in an identical discharge state regardless of external environmental conditions. As a result, the device can operate safely and steadily in highly humid environments, such as underwater, which can be utilized to decompose phosphorus compounds in fresh water. | Kim, Jae Young; Bae, Gyu Tae; Lee, Ye Rin; Jang, Sebinn; Jung, Eun Young; Tae, Heung-Sik | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll IT Engn, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Inst Elect Technol, Coll IT Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 57205191453; 57202369078; 57977013900; 58303219900; 57203199724; 7006298844 | hstae@ee.knu.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF VACUUM SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY A | J VAC SCI TECHNOL A | 0734-2101 | 1520-8559 | 41 | 4 | SCIE | MATERIALS SCIENCE, COATINGS & FILMS;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.4 | 53.4 | 0.25 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 2 | COLD-PLASMA; TOTAL PHOSPHORUS; ORGANIC-COMPOUNDS; MICROPLASMA JET; NATURAL-WATERS; DISCHARGE; POLYMERIZATION; ACTIVATION; TUBE; FLOW | Atmospheric pressure; Electric discharges; Optical fibers; Phosphorus compounds; Plasma applications; Plasma jets; Probes; Atmospheric pressure plasma jets; Discharge state; Electrical inputs; Hollow core optical fibers; Humid environment; Plasma columns; Plasma decomposition; Plasma treatment; Probe size; Wire electrode; Endoscopy | English | 2023 | 2023-07 | 10.1116/6.0002710 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Serum pro-B-type natriuretic peptide levels and cardiac index as adjunctive tools of blunt cardiac injury | BackgroundBlunt cardiac injury (BCI) has a variety of symptoms that may be a potentially life-threatening injury that can lead to death. Depending on the diagnosis of BCI, treatment direction and length of stay may vary. In addition, the utility of other diagnostic tests for cardiac disease as diagnostic tools for BCI remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the competence of N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT pro-BNP) and cardiac index (C.I) as adjunctive diagnostic tools for BCI.MethodsFrom January 2018 to March 2020, severe trauma patients with sternum fracture who were admitted to the traumatic intensive care unit (TICU) were included this study. Patients with sternum fracture, 18 years of age or older, and with an injury severity score > 16 who required intensive care were included. Invasive measurement for the analysis of the pulse contour for C.I monitoring and intravenous blood sampling for NT pro-BNP measurement were performed. Sampling and 12-lead electrocardiogram were performed at different time points as follows: immediately after TICU admission and at 24 h and 48 h after trauma.ResultsAmong 103; 33 patients with factors that could affect NT pro-BNP were excluded; therefore, 63 patients were included in this study. According to the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma Cardiac Injury Scale, 33 patients were diagnosed with non-BCI, and 30 patients constituted with BCI. The median ages of the patients were 58 (52-69), and 60 (45-69) years in the non-BCI and BCI groups, respectively (p = 0.77). The median NT pro-BNP values were higher in the BCI group on admission, hospital day (HD) 2, and HD 3, however, no statistical difference was observed (125 (49-245) vs. 130 (47-428) pg/mL, p = 0.08, 124 (68-224) vs. 187 (55-519) pg/mL, p = 0.09, and 121(59-225) vs. 133 (56-600) pg/mL, p = 0.17, respectively). On the contrary, significantly lower values were observed in the median C.I measurement on admission and HD 3 in the BCI group (3.2 (2.8-3.5) vs. 2.6 (2.3-3.5) L/min/m(2), p < 0.01 and 3.2 (3.1-3.9) vs. 2.9 (2.4-3.2) L/min/m(2), p < 0.01, respectively); however, no significant difference was observed on HD 2 (3.4 (3.0-3.7) vs. 2.6 (2.4-3.4) L/min/m(2), p = 0.17), Furthermore, The median lactate levels in the BCI group upon admission, HD 2, and HD 3 were significantly higher than those in the non-BCI group (1.8 (1.1-2.6) vs. 3.1 (2.1-4.4) mmol/L, p < 0.01; 1.3 (0.8-2.3) vs. 3.0 (2.2-4.7) mmol/L, p < 0.01; and 1.5 (0.9-1.5) vs. 2.2 (1.3-3.7) mmol/L, p < 0.01, respectively).ConclusionConsecutive values of NT pro-BNP and C.I show no correlation with ECG-based BCI diagnosis. However, lactate level measurement may help in the early recognition of BCI as an adjunctive tool. It should be noted that this is a hypothesis-generating study for BCI diagnosis. Further studies should be conducted in larger populations with a prospective approach. | Bae, Chae-Min; Cho, Joon Yong; Jung, Hanna; Son, Shin-Ah | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Thorac & Cardiovasc Surg, 130 Dongdeok Ro, Daegu, South Korea | Jung, Hanna/Y-4165-2019 | 57211586345; 57195637434; 56467570700; 57197328338 | sina2-2@hanmail.net; | BMC CARDIOVASCULAR DISORDERS | BMC CARDIOVASC DISOR | 1471-2261 | 23 | 1 | SCIE | CARDIAC & CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEMS | 2023 | 2 | 53.4 | 0.74 | 2025-06-25 | 5 | 4 | Multiple trauma; Heart injuries; Intensive care unit; Fractures | MYOCARDIAL CONTUSION; TRAUMA; PATIENT | Fractures; Heart injuries; Intensive care unit; Multiple trauma | Adolescent; Adult; Biomarkers; Critical Care; Humans; Intensive Care Units; Lactates; Myocardial Contusions; Natriuretic Peptide, Brain; Peptide Fragments; amino terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide; creatine kinase MB; biological marker; brain natriuretic peptide; lactic acid; peptide fragment; acute kidney failure; adult; aged; arterial pressure; Article; atrial fibrillation; blood sampling; blood transfusion; brain hemorrhage; cardiac index; cardiopulmonary bypass; congestive heart failure; controlled study; diagnostic test accuracy study; electrocardiogram; female; heart arrest; heart arrhythmia; heart infarction; heart injury; heart ventricle extrasystole; human; injury severity; lactate blood level; length of stay; major clinical study; male; receiver operating characteristic; resuscitation; retrospective study; sinus tachycardia; sternum fracture; systolic blood pressure; adolescent; heart contusion; intensive care; intensive care unit | English | 2023 | 2023-02-10 | 10.1186/s12872-022-02990-2 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Solid-source metal-organic MBE for elemental Ir and Ru films | Thin films of elemental metals play a very important role in modern electronic nano-devices as conduction pathways, spacer layers, spin-current generators/detectors, and many other important functionalities. In this work, by exploiting the chemistry of solid metal-organic source precursors, we demonstrate the molecular beam epitaxy synthesis of elemental Ir and Ru metal thin films. The synthesis of these metals is enabled by thermodynamic and kinetic selection of the metal phase as the metal-organic precursor decomposes on the substrate surface. Film growth under different conditions was studied using a combination of in situ and ex situ structural and compositional characterization techniques. The critical role of substrate temperature, oxygen reactivity, and precursor flux in tuning film composition and quality is discussed in the context of precursor adsorption, decomposition, and crystal growth. Computed thermodynamics quantifies the driving force for metal or oxide formation as a function of synthesis conditions and changes in chemical potential. These results indicate that bulk thermodynamics are a plausible origin for the formation of Ir metal at low temperatures, while Ru metal formation is likely mediated by kinetics. | Nair, Sreejith; Noordhoek, Kyle; Lee, Dooyong; Bartel, Christopher J.; Jalan, Bharat | Univ Minnesota Twin Cities, Dept Chem Engn & Mat Sci, Minneapolis, MN 55455 USA; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Phys Educ, 80 Daehak Ro, Daegu 41566, South Korea | ; Jalan, Bharat/H-9448-2015; Bartel, Christopher/AAD-5637-2019 | 57638107100; 57208674373; 56199505400; 57190335732; 24483635100 | nair0074@umn.edu;cbartel@umn.edu;bjalan@umn.edu; | JOURNAL OF VACUUM SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY A | J VAC SCI TECHNOL A | 0734-2101 | 1520-8559 | 41 | 6 | SCIE | MATERIALS SCIENCE, COATINGS & FILMS;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.4 | 53.4 | 0.37 | 2025-06-25 | 3 | 3 | ATOMIC LAYER DEPOSITION; MOLECULAR-BEAM EPITAXY; PLATINUM-GROUP METALS; TOTAL-ENERGY CALCULATIONS; THIN-FILMS; IRIDIUM; NANOPARTICLES; PRECURSORS; EVOLUTION | Film growth; Metal substrates; Molecular beam epitaxy; Organometallics; Ruthenium; Thin films; Current generator; Elemental metals; Metalorganics; Nano-devices; Organic MBE; Ru film; Solid-source; Spacer layer; Spin currents; Thin-films; Thermodynamics | English | 2023 | 2023-12 | 10.1116/6.0002955 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Intrahepatic cholelithiasis with gallbladder-like metaplasia of intrahepatic bile ducts associated with gallbladder agenesis in a wild boar | An unknown-aged adult female wild boar (Sus scrofa) was brought to Kyungpook National University for postmortem examination. Gross examination revealed gallbladder agenesis. Histologically, the liver was cirrhotic and had intrahepatic cholelithiasis, the choleliths were yellow, brown, gray, and black, and had coffin-lid and pyramidal appearances. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy analysis revealed that the components were 80% struvite and 20% calcium oxalate monohydrate. Chronic inflammatory cell infiltration was observed, with hyperplastic hepatocellular nodules characterized by large nuclei, prominent nucleoli, and scant cytoplasm with frequent binucleation, surrounded by thick fibrous septa. The epithelium of intrahepatic bile ducts that contained choleliths had undergone gallbladder-like metaplasia, which might have been induced by chronic irritation from the stones or by the accompanying chronic bacterial infection that was observed in Gram stains. | Baek, Su-Min; Lee, A-Rang; Lee, Seoung-Woo; Park, Jin-Kyu | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Vet Med, Dept Vet Pathol, Daegu, South Korea | 57207938426; 57207928983; 57218827581; 35213723500 | jinkyu820@knu.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF VETERINARY DIAGNOSTIC INVESTIGATION | J VET DIAGN INVEST | 1040-6387 | 1943-4936 | 35 | 4 | SCIE | VETERINARY SCIENCES | 2023 | 1.2 | 53.6 | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 0 | bile duct; gallbladder; intrahepatic cholelithiasis; struvite; wild boars | BETA-CYCLODEXTRIN; GALLSTONE; STONES; DOGS | bile duct; gallbladder; intrahepatic cholelithiasis; struvite; wild boars | Animals; Bile Ducts, Intrahepatic; Cholelithiasis; Female; Gallbladder; Gallbladder, Agenesis Of; Metaplasia; Sus scrofa; Swine; Swine Diseases; calcium oxalate; struvite; adult; animal experiment; Article; autopsy; bacterial infection; bile duct; case report; cell infiltration; cholelithiasis; clinical article; cytoplasm; epithelium; European wild boar; female; Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy; gallbladder agenesis; Gram staining; intrahepatic bile duct; liver cirrhosis; metaplasia; nonhuman; nucleolus; animal; cholelithiasis; complication; gallbladder; intrahepatic bile duct; metaplasia; pathology; pig; swine disease; veterinary medicine | English | 2023 | 2023-07 | 10.1177/10406387231174233 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Arduino-integrated flight mill: A cost-effective approach to studying insect flight behavior | In recent years, the study of insect flight behavior has gained prominence, offering insights into their dispersal strategies, habitat preferences, and potential migration patterns. Recognizing the need for a precise tool to capture insect flight, we developed an Arduino-integrated flight mill that offers researchers affordability, accuracy, and adaptability. Our flight mill was rigorously tested on two insect species, Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis and Polygonia c-aureum, and proved effective in recording their unique flight patterns. Key to the precision of our flight mill is the integration of advanced materials, such as polytetrafluoroethylene, which reduces friction, and the incorporation of magnetic sensing for meticulous data capture. These design choices ensure that the natural flight speed of the insect is replicated with minimal disturbance. Additionally, the implementation of a dedicated R script for data analysis provides researchers with a comprehensive platform, allowing them to delve deeply into various metrics, visualize patterns, and make informed conclusions. However, our flight mill is not without challenges. Mastery of the Arduino platform and R programming environment is essential for optimal use, which could pose barriers for those unfamiliar with these platforms. Moreover, although carefully designed, the mounting mechanism may still influence the natural behavior of the insect. Despite these challenges, the potential applications of our flight mill are myriad. From basic entomological research to practical applications in pest management and conservation, its versatility is evident. The adaptability of the tool also makes it an excellent resource in educational settings, offering students hands-on experience in studying insect behavior. | Do, Yuno; Park, Woong-Bae; Choi, Tae-Jun; Kim, Ji Yeong; Cho, Youngho; Choi, Moon Bo; Kim, Baek-Jun | Kongju Natl Univ, Dept Biol Sci, Gongju, South Korea; Natl Inst Ecol, Div Ecol Applicat Res, Ecol Technol Res Team, Seocheon, South Korea; Natl Inst Ecol, Invas Alien Species Res Team, Seochon, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Inst Plant Med, Daegu, South Korea; Wild Beei, Dept R&D, Chilgok, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Inst Plant Med, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Natl Inst Ecol, Div Ecol Applicat Res, Ecol Technol Res Team, Seochon 33657, South Korea | Kim, Hye-Bin/AFQ-2843-2022 | 52163435800; 57537588500; 58756999500; 58756999600; 58757206700; 51863232400; 58755947000 | kosinchoi@hanmail.net;naturalist71@nie.re.kr; | ENTOMOLOGICAL RESEARCH | ENTOMOL RES | 1738-2297 | 1748-5967 | 53 | 12 | SCIE | ENTOMOLOGY | 2023 | 1.2 | 53.7 | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 0 | Arduino-integrated flight mill; DIY entomological tool; insect flight behavior; open-source data analysis; polytetrafluoroethylene | Arduino-integrated flight mill; DIY entomological tool; insect flight behavior; open-source data analysis; polytetrafluoroethylene | English | 2023 | 2023-12 | 10.1111/1748-5967.12689 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Declination affects geomagnetic field-modulated geotaxis in fruit flies | Decades of research have established that the Earth's magnetic field (geomagnetic field, GMF) is broadly used as a sensory cue for magnetic orientation in various animal taxa, including insects. In contrast to the investigation of the total intensity or inclination of the GMF, the effect of declination on horizontal magnetic movement has been explored in a few species, including flies, cockroaches, and dogs. However, the potential role of declination in the vertical movement in magnetosensitive organisms is yet to be reported. In this study, we provide the first evidence that declination within a natural range of change can affect static geotaxis in fruit flies, as assessed using the tube-positioning assay. In open-field measurements conducted at 22 domestic and foreign locations, the variation in declination was notably dependent upon the specific location, regardless of altitude, with similar variation in total intensity. Flies subjected to a geographic range of declination under the same total intensity and inclination exhibited remarkably different geotactic positioning scores, irrespective of GMF polarity. Notably, we observed a significant negative correlation between the geotactic score and the absolute value of declination, indicating that declination can induce negative geotaxis effects in flies. These results reveal that flies have evolved to incorporate a declination compass into their multimodal sensorimotor system and suggest that declination may be complementary to gravity in terms of environmental factor-driven negative geotaxis in flies. | Bae, JunYong; Kim, Na-Hyeon; Kim, Soo-Chan; Chae, Kwon-Seok | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Biotechnol, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Biol, Taegu 702701, South Korea; Hankyong Natl Univ, Res Ctr Appl Human Sci, Dept Elect & Elect Engn, Anseong, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Biol Educ, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Brain Sci & Engn Inst, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Biol Educ, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Brain Sci & Engn Inst, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Kim, Youngmin/C-7926-2019 | 58698798300; 58698535600; 55974550600; 15743626400 | kschae@knu.ac.kr; | ENTOMOLOGICAL RESEARCH | ENTOMOL RES | 1738-2297 | 1748-5967 | 53 | 11 | SCIE | ENTOMOLOGY | 2023 | 1.2 | 53.7 | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 0 | declination; Drosophila melanogaster; fruit fly; geomagnetic field; geotaxis; tube-positioning assay | ORIENTATION; COMPASS | declination; Drosophila melanogaster; fruit fly; geomagnetic field; geotaxis; tube-positioning assay | English | 2023 | 2023-11 | 10.1111/1748-5967.12679 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 |
