| ○ | ○ | Article | A novel study on bean common mosaic virus accumulation shows disease resistance at the initial stage of infection in Phaseolus vulgaris | Accurate and early diagnosis of bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) in Phaseolus vulgaris tissues is critical since the pathogen can spread easily and have long-term detrimental effects on bean production. The use of resistant varieties is a key factor in the management activities of BCMV. The study reported here describes the development and application of a novel SYBR Green-based quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) assay targeting the coat protein gene to determine the host sensitivity to the specific NL-4 strain of BCMV. The technique showed high specificity, validated by melting curve analysis, without cross-reaction. Further, the symptoms development of twenty advanced common bean genotypes after mechanical BCMV-NL-4 infection was evaluated and compared. The results showed that common bean genotypes exhibit varying levels of host susceptibility to this BCMV strain. The YLV-14 and BRS-22 genotypes were determined as the most resistant and susceptible genotypes, respectively, in terms of aggressiveness of symptoms. The accumulation of BCMV was analyzed in the resistant and susceptible genotypes 3, 6, and 9 days following the inoculation by the newly developed qRT-PCR. The mean cycle threshold (Ct) values showed that the viral titer was significantly lower in YLV-14, which was evident in both root and leaf 3 days after the inoculation. The qRT-PCR thus facilitated an accurate, specific, and feasible assessment of BCMV accumulation in bean tissues even in low virus titers, allowing novel clues in selecting resistant genotypes in the early stages of infection, which is critical for disease management. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study of a successfully performed qRT-PCR to estimate BCMV quantification. | Celik, Ali; Emiralioglu, Orkun; Yeken, Mehmet Zahit; Ciftci, Vahdettin; Ozer, Goeksel; Kim, Yoonha; Baloch, Faheem Shehzad; Chung, Yong Suk | Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal Univ, Fac Agr, Dept Plant Protect, Bolu, Turkiye; Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal Univ, Fac Agr, Dept Field Crops, Bolu, Turkiye; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Appl Biosci, Lab Crop Prod, Daegu, South Korea; Sivas Univ Sci & Technol, Fac Agr Sci & Technol, Sivas, Turkiye; Jeju Natl Univ, Dept Plant Resources & Environm, Jeju, South Korea | ; Özer, Göksel/AAZ-9120-2020; YEKEN, Mehmet/AAT-2290-2020; Baloch, Faheem/ABG-8788-2020; ÇELİK, Ali/JCN-6868-2023; Emiralioğlu, orkun/IZE-4664-2023; Chung, Yong/V-6909-2019 | 57208189821; 57490245800; 57204163999; 6506059494; 54891565200; 57224866763; 25824197600; 36983850100 | alicelik032@gmail.com;balochfaheem13@gmail.com;yschung@jejunu.ac.kr; | FRONTIERS IN GENETICS | FRONT GENET | 1664-8021 | 14 | SCIE | GENETICS & HEREDITY | 2023 | 2.8 | 44.2 | 1.15 | 2025-06-25 | 6 | 7 | BCMV; real-time PCR; SYBR green; common bean; viral load | REAL-TIME PCR; VEIN-YELLOWING-VIRUS; RT-PCR; QUANTITATIVE DETECTION; ABSOLUTE QUANTITATION; 1ST REPORT; ASSAY; TOMATO; QUANTIFICATION; DISCRIMINATION | BCMV; common bean; real-time PCR; SYBR green; viral load | aggressiveness of symptoms; Article; bean common mosaic virus accumulation; clinical feature; controlled study; cross reaction; cycle threshold value; disease course; disease resistance; genotype; host susceptibility; initial stage of infection; inoculation; mild foliar; moderate foliar; mosaic symptom; nonhuman; Phaseolus vulgaris; plant disease; plant leaf; plant malformation; plant root; Potyvirus; real time polymerase chain reaction; RNA extraction; severe disortion; viral phenomena and functions; virus inoculation; virus load; wrinkle | English | 2023 | 2023-03-20 | 10.3389/fgene.2023.1136794 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||

| ○ | ○ | Article | Tissue Circular RNA₀₀₀₄₀₁₈ and 0003570 as Novel Prognostic Biomarkers for Hepatitis B-Related Hepatocellular Carcinoma | The clinical significance of hsacᵢᵣc₀₀₀₄₀₁₈ and hsacᵢᵣc₀₀₀₃₅₇₀ in patients with hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HBV-HCC) is unclear. We aimed to explore the clinical significance and prognostic utility of these two circular RNAs (circRNAs) in patients with HBV-HCC. Based on 86 paired tissue samples of HCC and adjacent non-HCC, the relative expression profiles of hsacᵢᵣc₀₀₀₄₀₁₈ and hsacᵢᵣc₀₀₀₃₅₇₀ were determined using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reactions. The cut-off values were the median expression of each of the two circRNAs in 86 patients with HBV-HCC. The combination group comprised patients with high levels of the two circRNAs. Clinicopathological features, body composition profiles at the L3 level, and survival rates were investigated. The expression of hsacᵢᵣc₀₀₀₄₀₁₈ and hsacᵢᵣc₀₀₀₃₅₇₀ was downregulated in HCC tissues compared with non-HCC tissues. High expression levels of hsacᵢᵣc₀₀₀₃₅₇₀ (hazard ratio (HR), 0.437; p = 0.009) and hsacᵢᵣc₀₀₀₄₀₁₈ (HR, 0.435; p = 0.005) were inversely independent risk factors for overall and progression-free survival in patients with HBV-HCC, whereas the combination group was also an inversely independent risk factor for overall (HR, 0.399; p = 0.005) and progression-free survival (HR, 0.422; p = 0.003) in patients with HBV-HCC. The combination of hsacᵢᵣc₀₀₀₃₅₇₀ and hsacᵢᵣc₀₀₀₄₀₁₈ may be a potential prognostic biomarker for HBV-HCC. | Kang, Min-Kyu; Kim, Gyeonghwa; Park, Jung Gil; Jang, Se Young; Lee, Hye Won; Tak, Won Young; Kweon, Young Oh; Park, Soo Young; Lee, Yu Rim; Hur, Keun | Yeungnam Univ, Coll Med, Dept Internal Med, 170 Hyunchung Ro, Daegu 42415, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Cell & Matrix Res Inst, Sch Med, Dept Biochem & Cell Biol, 680 Gukchaebosang Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Internal Med, 130 Dongdeok Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Keimyung Univ, Sch Med, Dept Pathol, 1095 Dalgubeoldae Ro, Daegu 42601, South Korea | Kang, Min/U-8050-2018; Kim, Gyeonghwa/AAQ-6424-2021; Hur, Keun/G-9513-2011; Kang, Min Kyu/U-8050-2018; Park, Jung/AAK-5167-2020 | 59142854300; 57195957884; 57216816399; 57202881977; 57907713300; 7004074582; 7004694832; 57191674344; 57194094753; 8861888000 | deblue00@naver.com;keunhur@knu.ac.kr; | GENES | GENES-BASEL | 2073-4425 | 14 | 10 | SCIE | GENETICS & HEREDITY | 2023 | 2.8 | 44.2 | 1.55 | 2025-06-25 | 9 | 9 | circular RNA; hepatocellular carcinoma; hepatitis B virus; prognosis; sarcopenia | SKELETAL-MUSCLE; SARCOPENIA; FAT | circular RNA; hepatitis B virus; hepatocellular carcinoma; prognosis; sarcopenia | Biomarkers, Tumor; Carcinoma, Hepatocellular; Gene Expression Regulation, Neoplastic; Hepatitis B; Humans; Liver Neoplasms; Prognosis; RNA; RNA, Circular; alanine aminotransferase; aspartate aminotransferase; biological marker; circular ribonucleic acid; circular ribonucleic acid; RNA; tumor marker; adult; Article; body composition; cancer prognosis; computer assisted tomography; female; follow up; gene expression; hepatitis B; Hepatitis B virus; human; liver cell carcinoma; male; nonhuman; nuclear magnetic resonance imaging; overall survival; progression free survival; protein expression; real time polymerase chain reaction; retrospective study; risk factor; RNA extraction; sarcopenia; survival rate; complication; gene expression regulation; genetics; liver tumor; metabolism; pathology; prognosis | English | 2023 | 2023-10 | 10.3390/genes14101963 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | A Secure and Anonymous Authentication Protocol Based on Three-Factor Wireless Medical Sensor Networks | Wireless medical sensor networks (WMSNs), a type of wireless sensor network (WSN), have enabled medical professionals to identify patients' health information in real time to identify and diagnose their conditions. However, since wireless communication is performed through an open channel, an attacker can steal or manipulate the transmitted and received information. Because these attacks are directly related to the patients' lives, it is necessary to prevent these attacks upfront by providing the security of WMSN communication. Although authentication protocols are continuously developed to establish the security of WMSN communication, they are still vulnerable to attacks. Recently, Yuanbing et al. proposed a secure authentication scheme for WMSN. They emphasized that their protocol is able to resist various attacks and can ensure mutual authentication. Unfortunately, this paper demonstrates that Yuanbing et al.'s protocol is vulnerable to smart card stolen attacks, ID/password guessing attacks, and sensor node capture attacks. In order to overcome the weaknesses and effectiveness of existing studies and to ensure secure communication and user anonymity of WMSN, we propose a secure and anonymous authentication protocol. The proposed protocol can prevent sensor capture, guessing, and man-in-the-middle attacks. To demonstrate the security of the proposed protocol, we perform various formal and informal analyses using AVISPA tools, ROR models, and BAN logic. Additionally, we compare the security aspects with related protocols to prove that the proposed protocol has excellent security. We also prove the effectiveness of our proposed protocol compared with related protocols in computation and communication costs. Our protocol has low or comparable computation and communication costs compared to related protocols. Thus, our protocol can provide services in the WMSN environment. | Lee, JoonYoung; Oh, Jihyeon; Park, Youngho | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 57203970123; 57222066296; 56962990300 | harry250@knu.ac.kr;j2hnoh@knu.ac.kr;parkyh@knu.ac.kr; | ELECTRONICS | ELECTRONICS-SWITZ | 2079-9292 | 12 | 6 | SCIE | COMPUTER SCIENCE, INFORMATION SYSTEMS;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.6 | 44.3 | 2.23 | 2025-06-25 | 16 | 19 | WMSN; PUF; biometrics; authentication; AVISPA; ROR | KEY EXCHANGE; SYSTEMS | authentication; AVISPA; biometrics; PUF; ROR; WMSN | English | 2023 | 2023-03 | 10.3390/electronics12061368 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | An 18-19.2 GHz Voltage-Controlled Oscillator with a Compact Varactor-Only Capacitor Array | This paper presents a K-band CMOS cross-coupled pair voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) that utilizes the varactor-only capacitor network. The proposed circuit features low parasitics and a compact capacitor network, such that the varactor in the analog tuning path directly affects the oscillation frequency with a large gain of the VCO, and the varactor in the digital tuning path results in minimal noise sources, thus achieving low phase noise for the automotive FMCW radar application. This VCO was designed using TSMC 65 nm technology, and the post-layout simulation results show a stable oscillation across 18-19.2 GHz, a minimum phase noise of -105.9 and -128 dBc/Hz at 1- and 10-MHz offset frequencies while dissipating 21 mW of power from a 1 V supply. Furthermore, no notable variations in phase noise are observed across the oscillation frequency tuning range. It reveals a figure of merit (FOM) of -178.3 dBc/Hz while using a varactor-only capacitor array and occupying a small chip area. | Kim, Jusung; Mauludin, Muhammad Fakhri; Azzahra, Hapsah Aulia; Jhon, Heesauk; Lee, Sanghun; Cho, Kunhee | Hanbat Natl Univ, Dept Elect Engn, Daejeon 34158, South Korea; Mokpo Natl Univ, Dept Informat & Elect Engn, Muan 58554, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 36466600600; 57222517076; 58191975400; 7801446924; 55346783100; 57069360800 | platune@wavepia.com;kunhee@knu.ac.kr; | ELECTRONICS | ELECTRONICS-SWITZ | 2079-9292 | 12 | 7 | SCIE | COMPUTER SCIENCE, INFORMATION SYSTEMS;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.6 | 44.3 | 0.47 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 4 | FMCW; oscillator; phase noise; quality factor; radar; voltage-controlled oscillator | LC-VCO; CMOS; INDUCTORS; NOISE | FMCW; oscillator; phase noise; quality factor; radar; voltage-controlled oscillator | English | 2023 | 2023-04 | 10.3390/electronics12071532 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Blockchain Technologies: Smart Contracts for Consumer Electronics Data Sharing and Secure Payment | Blockchain may be an optimal solution when a detailed and transparent record of assets is necessary. It is imperative to manage and safeguard digital interactions or maintain a decentralized and shared system of records in applications, such as those used for electricity production, transmission, distribution, and consumption and those used for data sharing and secure payments. Such applications can benefit from blockchain technology to resolve these problems. | ○ | ○ | Article | Decoupling Methods in Planar Ultra-Wideband Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output Antennas: A Review of the Design, State-of-the-Art, and Research Challenges | Ultra-wideband (UWB) antennas cover a frequency range of 3.1 to 10.6 GHz and have sparked a lot of research interest as an essential part of wireless communication systems as they provide high data transmission speeds, are less expensive, and consume less power. UWB antennas are widely used in radar imaging, radio frequency identification, public security, and other high-accuracy positioning devices such as altimetry. Some smart applications of UWB antennas are vehicular radar systems, surveillance systems, software-defined radios, spectrum analysis, proximity fuses, etc. Multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) is a multiplexing technology that adopts multiple antennas both at the transmitter and receiver, which can enhance the channel capacity. MIMO technology is extensively used in several applications, such as in portable devices, wireless body area networks (WBANs), vehicular communication, and satellite-terrestrial networks. Generally, the MIMO antennas are used to obtain high reliability, high capacity, high throughput, and high security. The UWB MIMO antennas (UMAs) are considered the best choice for wireless communication systems as they offer reliability and wide transmission capacity, in contrast to unit antenna elements (AEs), without increasing system bandwidth or transmission power. The present-day and future communications systems need higher throughput to meet the demands of users. The signal transfer rate can be improved by improving channel bandwidth or increasing the number of receiving antennas. However, the main issue in designing UMAs is to provide high isolation between AEs because mutual coupling interactions between them affect the generated radiation patterns, leading to worse performance and failing to meet the operative constraints and requirements. When introducing decoupling techniques (DTs), researchers experience numerous challenges, including an increase in antenna size, design complexity, and cross-polarization. This article offers an organized review and simulated study of the various DTs in UMAs. The simulated study has been carried out through the implementation of various types of DTs on the same two-port UMA, which consists of two microstrip-fed circular-shaped AEs with open-end slotted partial ground. In contrast with previously reported review articles, this article provides a detailed study of various types of DTs reported so far and a better understanding for selecting appropriate DTs, which help in designing UMAs with better performance. | Jayant, Shailesh; Srivastava, Garima; Kumar, Sachin; Mostafa, Hala; Goyal, Bhawna; Choi, Hyun Chul; Kim, Kang Wook | Univ Sch Informat Commun & Technol, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha Univ, New Delhi 110078, India; Netaji Subhas Univ Technol, Dept Elect & Commun Engn, Delhi 110031, India; SRM Inst Sci & Technol, Dept Elect & Commun Engn, Kattankulathur 603203, India; Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman Univ, Coll Comp & Informat Sci, Dept Informat Technol, POB 84428, Riyadh 11671, Saudi Arabia; Chandigarh Univ, Univ Ctr Res & Dev, Mohali 140413, India; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Srivastava, garima/KDN-5769-2024; Jayant, Shailesh/GYV-5525-2022; Kumar, Sachin/W-2211-2019; Mostafa, Hala/GQQ-7329-2022 | 57208245693; 58556889800; 56907994000; 56229063000; 57190228335; 57193342681; 57204432422 | hailesh.jayant404@gmail.com;garima.shrivastav@gmail.com;gupta.sachin0708@gmail.com;hfmostafa@pnu.edu.sa;bhawna.e9242@cumail.in;hcchoi@ee.knu.ac.kr;kang_kim@ee.knu.ac.kr; | ELECTRONICS | ELECTRONICS-SWITZ | 2079-9292 | 12 | 18 | SCIE | COMPUTER SCIENCE, INFORMATION SYSTEMS;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.6 | 44.3 | 0.23 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 2 | antenna; decoupling technique; isolation; MIMO; UWB | SLOT ANTENNA; MIMO/DIVERSITY ANTENNA; MIMO ANTENNA; INTERFERENCE | antenna; decoupling technique; isolation; MIMO; UWB | English | 2023 | 2023-09 | 10.3390/electronics12183813 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||

| ○ | ○ | Article | HeightNet: Monocular Object Height Estimation | Monocular depth estimation is a traditional computer vision task that predicts the distance of each pixel relative to the camera from one 2D image. Relative height information about objects lying on a ground plane can be calculated through several processing steps from the depth image. In this paper, we propose a height estimation method for directly predicting the height of objects from a 2D image. The proposed method utilizes an encoder-decoder network for pixel-wise dense prediction based on height consistency. We used the CARLA simulator to generate 40,000 training datasets from different positions in five areas within the simulator. The experimental results show that the object's height map can be estimated regardless of the camera's location. | Kim, In Su; Kim, Hyeongbok; Lee, Seungwon; Jung, Soon Ki | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Comp Sci & Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Testworks Inc, Seoul 01000, South Korea | ; Jung, Soon Ki/P-7687-2018 | 57204720189; 57754599500; 58075930400; 57226791905 | skjung@knu.ac.kr; | ELECTRONICS | ELECTRONICS-SWITZ | 2079-9292 | 12 | 2 | SCIE | COMPUTER SCIENCE, INFORMATION SYSTEMS;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.6 | 44.3 | 0.47 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 4 | object height estimation; virtual dataset; deep learning | STEREO | deep learning; object height estimation; virtual dataset | English | 2023 | 2023-01 | 10.3390/electronics12020350 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||

At its core, we attempted to extract values of fT using a simplified small-signal model (SSM) of the HEMTs and to derive an analytical formula for fT in terms of extrinsic model parameters that are related with intrinsic model parameters of a general SSM. We projected how fT was influenced by goi in HEMTs, emphasizing that the improvement in electrostatic integrity would also be of critical importance to fully benefit from scaling down Lg. © 2023 by the authors. | Kim, Hyo-Jin; Lee, In-Geun; Jo, Hyeon-Bhin; Rho, Tae-Beom; Tsutsumi, Takuya; Sugiyama, Hiroki; Matsuzaki, Hideaki; Lee, Jae-Hak; Kim, Tae-Woo; Kim, Dae-Hyun | School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Kyungpook National University (KNU), Daegu, 41566, South Korea; School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Kyungpook National University (KNU), Daegu, 41566, South Korea; School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Kyungpook National University (KNU), Daegu, 41566, South Korea; School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Kyungpook National University (KNU), Daegu, 41566, South Korea; NTT Device Technology Laboratories, Atsugi-shi, 243-0198, Japan; NTT Device Technology Laboratories, Atsugi-shi, 243-0198, Japan; NTT Device Technology Laboratories, Atsugi-shi, 243-0198, Japan; School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Kyungpook National University (KNU), Daegu, 41566, South Korea; School of Electrical Engineering, University of Ulsan, Ulsan, 44610, South Korea; School of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Kyungpook National University (KNU), Daegu, 41566, South Korea | 57202516002; 37016357200; 57202871742; 57210915530; 37007126500; 35417698400; 7202461821; 55690077600; 57203495132; 57212363794 | dae-hyun.kim@ee.knu.ac.kr; | Electronics (Switzerland) | ELECTRONICS-SWITZ | N/A | 2079-9292 | 12 | 2 | SCIE | COMPUTER SCIENCE, INFORMATION SYSTEMS;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.6 | 44.3 | 0.12 | 2025-06-25 | 1 | cut-off frequency (fT); high-electron-mobility transistor (HEMT); output conductance (go); small-signal model (SSM) | English | Final | 2023 | 10.3390/electronics12020259 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Junction Selection Based on Optimal-Weighted Multiple Attributes for VANETs | Vehicle ad hoc networks (VANETs) is an emerging ad hoc network technology with a promising future but significant limitations, particularly in communication networks. An effective routing system can significantly enhance the performance of VANETs. However, creating an effective routing protocol in an urban context to transport the data packet to the destination is still challenging due to complex road conditions, sporadic connectivity among vehicles, frequent disconnections, and quick changes in network topology. To enhance the accuracy of routing decisions in an urban setting, we propose a novel "multiple attributes decision-making junction selection routing (MADMJSR)" routing protocol based on vehicle position for VANETs. Formerly, most of the research was focused on static weight-based attribute selection for communication rather than optimal values, which led to a drop in junction decision-making accuracy. Our proposed scheme considers the multiple attribute selection and the optimal weight value assigned to each attribute, which significantly improves the routing decision accuracy. The results show a high packet delivery ratio (PDR) gain within minimum latency and less network load. Furthermore, a thorough discussion of the functioning of our proposed protocol is presented along with a detailed performance evaluation in comparison to other protocols. | Ru, Yang; Siddiqa, Ayesha; Ajmal, Mahnoor; Jeong, Bomi; Kim, Dongkyun | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Comp Sci & Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 마, 누르아즈말/NRY-5736-2025 | 57223047679; 57811639800; 57238144300; 57831999800; 35753648800 | dongkyun@knu.ac.kr; | ELECTRONICS | ELECTRONICS-SWITZ | 2079-9292 | 12 | 4 | SCIE | COMPUTER SCIENCE, INFORMATION SYSTEMS;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.6 | 44.3 | 0.59 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 5 | vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs); junction selection; vehicle to infrastructure (V2I); distance; direction | ROUTING PROTOCOL | direction; distance; junction selection; vehicle to infrastructure (V2I); vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) | English | 2023 | 2023-02 | 10.3390/electronics12040889 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | LazyRS: Improving the Performance and Reliability of High-Capacity TLC/QLC Flash-Based Storage Systems Using Lazy Reprogramming | We propose a new NAND programming scheme called the lazy reprogramming scheme (LazyRS) which divides a program operation into two stages, where the second stage is delayed until it is needed. LazyRS optimizes the program latency by skipping the second stage if it is not required. An idle interval before the second stage improves the flash reliability as well. To maximize the benefit of LazyRS, a LazyRS-aware FTL adjusts the length of an idle interval dynamically over changing workload characteristics. The experimental results show that the LazyRS-aware FTL can efficiently improve the write throughput and reliability of flash-based storage systems by up to 2.6 times and 31.2%, respectively. | Kim, Beomjun; Kim, Myungsuk | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Comp Sci & Engn, Daegu 37224, South Korea | 57743131700; 57194859467 | ms.kim@knu.ac.kr; | ELECTRONICS | ELECTRONICS-SWITZ | 2079-9292 | 12 | 4 | SCIE | COMPUTER SCIENCE, INFORMATION SYSTEMS;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.6 | 44.3 | 0.23 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 2 | multi-level NAND flash memory; SSD; performance; reliability; reprogramming; storage system | multi-level NAND flash memory; performance; reliability; reprogramming; SSD; storage system | English | 2023 | 2023-02 | 10.3390/electronics12040843 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | LiDAR SLAM with a Wheel Encoder in a Featureless Tunnel Environment | Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) represents a crucial algorithm in the autonomous navigation of ground vehicles. Several studies were conducted to improve the SLAM algorithm using various sensors and robot platforms. However, only a few works have focused on applications inside low-illuminated featureless tunnel environments. In this work, we present an improved SLAM algorithm using wheel encoder data from an autonomous ground vehicle (AGV) to obtain robust performance in a featureless tunnel environment. The improved SLAM system uses FAST-LIO2 LiDAR SLAM as the baseline algorithm, and the additional wheel encoder sensor data are integrated into the baseline SLAM structure using the extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm. The EKF algorithm is used after the LiDAR odometry estimation and before the mapping process of FAST-LIO2. The prediction step uses the wheel encoder and inertial measurement unit (IMU) data, while the correction step uses the FAST-LIO2 LiDAR state estimation. We used an AGV to conduct experiments in flat and inclined terrain sections in a tunnel environment. The results showed that the mapping and the localization process in the SLAM algorithm was greatly improved in a featureless tunnel environment considering both inclined and flat terrains. | Filip, Iulian; Pyo, Juhyun; Lee, Meungsuk; Joe, Hangil | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Robot & Smart Syst Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Korea Institue Robot & Technol Convergence, Pohang 37666, South Korea | ; Joe, Hangil/LOR-9635-2024 | 58071869700; 52063704300; 57205539596; 55848385500 | hgjoe@knu.ac.kr; | ELECTRONICS | ELECTRONICS-SWITZ | 2079-9292 | 12 | 4 | SCIE | COMPUTER SCIENCE, INFORMATION SYSTEMS;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.6 | 44.3 | 1.88 | 2025-06-25 | 12 | 16 | LiDAR SLAM; wheel encoder; tunnel | REGISTRATION; VEHICLES | LiDAR SLAM; tunnel; wheel encoder | English | 2023 | 2023-02 | 10.3390/electronics12041002 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Memory-Tree Based Design of Optical Character Recognition in FPGA | As one of the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Optical Character Recognition (OCR) systems have wide application in both industrial production and daily life. Conventional OCR systems are commonly designed and implement data computation on the basis of microprocessors; the performance of the processor relates to the effect of the computation. However, due to the "Memory-wall" problem and Von Neumann bottlenecks, the drawbacks of traditional processor-based computing for OCR systems are gradually becoming apparent. In this paper, an approach based on the Memory-Centric Computing and "Memory-Tree" algorithm has been proposed to perform hardware optimization of traditional OCR systems. The proposed algorithm was first designed in software implementation using C/C++ and OpenCV to verify the feasibility of the idea and then the RTL conversion of the algorithm was done using the Xilinx Vitis High Level Synthesis (HLS) tool to implement the hardware. This work chose Xilinx Alveo U50 FPGA Accelerator to complete the hardware design, which can be connected to the x86 CPU in the PC by PCIe to form heterogeneous computing. The results of the hardware implementation show that the system this work designed can recognize characters of English capital letters and numbers within 34.24 us. The power of FPGA is 18.59 W, which saves 77.87% of energy consumption compared to the 84 W of the processor in PC. | Yu, Ke; Kim, Minguk; Choi, Jun Rim | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll IT Engn, Sch Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Yu, Ke/GYV-1975-2022 | 58099769200; 58099551200; 7501392846 | jrchoi@ee.knu.ac.kr; | ELECTRONICS | ELECTRONICS-SWITZ | 2079-9292 | 12 | 3 | SCIE | COMPUTER SCIENCE, INFORMATION SYSTEMS;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.6 | 44.3 | 0.7 | 2025-06-25 | 3 | 6 | Optical Character Recognition; Memory-Tree; Von Neumann; Memory-Centric Computing; computer vision; high level synthesis; Xilinx Vitis; low power; Alveo; FPGA; accelerator | LICENSE PLATE RECOGNITION | accelerator; Alveo; computer vision; FPGA; high level synthesis; low power; Memory-Centric Computing; Memory-Tree; Optical Character Recognition; Von Neumann; Xilinx Vitis | English | 2023 | 2023-02 | 10.3390/electronics12030754 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | On-Cloud Linking Approach Using a Linkable Glue Layer for Metamorphic Edge Devices | As sensors operating at the edge continue to evolve, the amount of data that edge devices need to process is increasing. Cloud computing methods have been proposed to process complex data on edge devices that are powered by limited resources. However, the existing cloud computing approach, which provides services from servers determined at the compile stage on the edge, is not suitable for the metamorphic edge device proposed in this paper. Therefore, we have realized the operation of metamorphic edge devices by changing the service that accelerates the application in real time according to the surrounding environmental conditions on the edge device. The on-cloud linking approach separates the code for communication from the edge and server into a linkable glue layer. The separated communication code in the linkable glue layer is reconfigured in real time according to the environment of the edge device. To verify the computational acceleration of cloud computing and the real-time service change of the metamorphic edge device, we operated services that perform matrix multiplication operations with one process, two processes, and four processes in parallel on the edge-cloud system based on the on-cloud linking approach. Through the experiments, it was confirmed that the on-cloud linking approach changes the service provided in real time according to changes in external environmental data without changing the code built into the edge. When a square matrix operation with 1000 rows was loaded onto the proposed platform, the size of the code embedded into the edge device decreased by 8.88% and the operation time decreased by 96.7%. | Lee, Dongkyu; Park, Daejin | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 55698915100; 55463943600 | dklee1215@knu.ac.kr;boltanut@knu.ac.kr; | ELECTRONICS | ELECTRONICS-SWITZ | 2079-9292 | 12 | 24 | SCIE | COMPUTER SCIENCE, INFORMATION SYSTEMS;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.6 | 44.3 | 0.23 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 2 | metamorphic edge device; embedded system; on-cloud linking | IOT; UNIT | embedded system; metamorphic edge device; on-cloud linking | English | 2023 | 2023-12 | 10.3390/electronics12244901 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 |
