| ○ | ○ | Article | Investigating the efficacy of biochar produced from agro-waste for basic fuchsin dye removal: Kinetics, isotherm, and thermodynamic studies | The present article investigates the efficacy of biochar (BC) derived from agricultural waste for treating cationic dyes. Various biomass, including sycamore leaf (SL), cotton waste (CW), groundnut shell (GS), rice husk (RH), coconut shell (CS), banana pith (BP), and coconut husk (CH) were used to prepare biochar at 400, 600, and 800 degrees C. The highest removal of basic fuchsin (BF) dye was observed onto the BC prepared at 800 degrees C, with the removal efficiency as follows: cotton waste biochar (CWB) 88.12%, groundnut shell biochar (GSB) 88.73%, rice husk biochar (RHB) 89.37 %, coconut shell biochar (CSB) 90.4 %, coconut husk biochar (CHB) 91.24 %, banana pith biochar (BPB) 96.7%, and sycamore leaf biochar (SLB) 100%, respectively. The dye concentration, BC dose, reaction time, temperature, and pH were optimized. Optimal conditions for higher BF dye sorption (174.5 mg g(-1)) were found at the dye concentration of 3500 mg L-1, SLB dose of 0.2 g, time 45 min, temperature 40 +/- 2 degrees C, and pH 9 +/- 0.2. The sorption kinetic data best fit a pseudo-second-order model, while isotherm data followed the Freundlich model, suggesting chemisorption with a multilayer sorption process. Thermodynamic data implied that the sorption process was endothermic and spontaneous. The present research revealed the hidden potential of widely and easily available waste biomass to competently remove the cationic dye. | Vyavahare, Govind; Patil, Ravishankar; Gurav, Ranjit; Shorobi, Fauzia Mahanaz; Kadam, Suhas; Jadhav, Jyoti; Park, Jin Hee | Chungbuk Natl Univ, Dept Environm & Biol Chem, Cheongju 28644, Chungbuk, South Korea; Amity Univ, Amity Inst Biotechnol, Mumbai 410206, Maharashtra, India; UPES, Sch Adv Engn, Sustainabil Cluster, Dehra Dun 248007, Uttarakhand, India; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Res Inst Dok Do & Ulleung Do Isl, Sch Life Sci, Dept Biol, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Shivaji Univ Kolhapur, Dept Biotechnol, Kolhapur 416004, Maharashtra, India; Chungbuk Natl Univ, Cheongju 28644, Chungbuk, South Korea | Gurav, Ranjit/AAE-9014-2020; Kadam, Dr. Suhas/HNI-6437-2023; Vyavahare, Govind/GYA-4459-2022 | 57198436376; 57189756193; 37101525400; 58099725000; 57188723669; 7003284262; 36562417200 | jpjbiochem@gmail.com;pjinh@chungbuk.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF THE INDIAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY | J INDIAN CHEM SOC | 0019-4522 | 101 | 10 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, MULTIDISCIPLINARY | 2024 | 3.4 | 41.6 | 0.82 | 2025-05-07 | 5 | 4 | Biochar; Dye; Pollution; Pyrolysis; Sorption | RESPONSE-SURFACE METHODOLOGY; METHYLENE-BLUE DYE; AQUEOUS-SOLUTION; MALACHITE-GREEN; ADSORBENT EQUILIBRIUM; RESIDUAL DYE; ADSORPTION; ACID; BIOSORPTION; SORPTION | Biochar; Dye; Pollution; Pyrolysis; Sorption | brilliant green; charcoal; crystal violet; fuchsine; methyl green; adsorption; adsorption kinetics; agricultural waste; aqueous solution; Article; banana; biomass; chemical composition; coconut; coconut shell; concentration (parameter); controlled study; isotherm; nonhuman; nutshell (structure); peanut; pH; physical chemistry; plant leaf; process optimization; pyrolysis; reaction temperature; reaction time; rice husk; scanning electron microscopy; surface area; thermodynamics; waste component removal | English | 2024 | 2024-10 | 10.1016/j.jics.2024.101278 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Isolation and Identification of Multi-Traits PGPR for Sustainable Crop Productivity Under Salinity Stress | High salinity poses a significant threat to arable land globally and contributes to desertification. Growth-promoting rhizobacteria assist plants in mitigating abiotic stresses and enhancing crop productivity through the production of siderophores, exopolysaccharides (EPS), solubilisation of phosphate, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), and other secondary metabolites. This study aimed to isolate, identify, and characterise bacteria that exhibit robust growth-promoting properties. A total of 64 bacterial isolates from the rhizosphere of Miscanthus sinensis were evaluated for plant growth-promoting (PGP) traits, including IAA, EPS, siderophores, and solubilisation of phosphate. Among them, five isolates were selected as plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) based on their PGP features and identified via 16S rRNA sequencing: Enterococcus mundtii strain INJ1 (OR122486), Lysinibacillus fusiformis strain INJ2 (OR122488), Lysinibacillus sphaericus strain MIIA20 (OR122490), Pseudomonas qingdaonensis strain BD1 (OR122487), and Pseudomonas qingdaonensis strain MIA20 (OR122489), all documented in NCBI GenBank. BD1 demonstrated a higher production of superoxide dismutase (SOD) (17.93 U/mg mL), catalase (CAT) (91.17 U/mg mL), and glutathione (GSH) (0.18 U/mg mL), along with higher concentrations of IAA (31.69 mu g/mL) and salicylic acid (SA) (14.08 ng/mL). These isolates also produced significant quantities of amino and organic acids. BD1 exhibited superior PGP traits compared to other isolates. Furthermore, the NaCl tolerance of these bacterial isolates was assessed by measuring their growth at concentrations ranging from 0 to 200 mM at 8-h intervals. Optical density (OD) measurements indicated that BD1 and INJ2 displayed significant tolerance to salt stress. The utilisation of these isolates, which enhances plant growth and PGP traits under salt stress, may improve plant development under saline conditions. | Injamum-Ul-Hoque, Md.; Imran, Muhammad; Zainurin, Nazree; Shaffique, Shifa; Kang, Sang-Mo; Ahsan, S. | ○ | ○ | Article | Optimal Hybrid Renewable Energy System to Accelerate a Sustainable Energy Transition in Johor, Malaysia | As the world's second-largest palm oil producer, Malaysia heavily depends on its extensive oil palm cultivation, which accounts for nearly 90% of the country's lignocellulosic biomass waste. Approximately 20-22 tonnes of empty fruit bunches (EFBs) can be derived from an initial yield of 100 tonnes of fresh fruit bunches (FFBs) from oil palm trees. The average annual amount of EFBs produced in Johor is 3233 tonnes per day. Recognising that urban areas contribute significantly to anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, and to support Malaysia's transition from fossil fuel-based energy to a low-carbon energy system, this research employed HOMER Pro software 3.18.3 to develop an optimal hybrid renewable energy system integrating solar and biomass (EFB) energy sources in Johor, Malaysia. The most cost-effective system (solar-biomass) consists of 4075 kW solar photovoltaics, a 2100 kW biomass gasifier, 9363 battery units and 1939 kW converters. This configuration results in a total net present cost (NPC) of USD 44,596,990 and a levelised cost of energy (LCOE) of USD 0.2364/kWh. This system satisfies the residential load demand via 6,020,427 kWh (64.7%) of solar-based and 3,286,257 kWh (35.3%) of biomass-based electricity production, with an annual surplus of 2,613,329 kWh (28.1%). The minimal percentages of unmet electric load and capacity shortage, both <0.1%, indicate that all systems can meet the power demand. In conclusion, this research provides valuable insights into the economic viability and technical feasibility of powering the Kulai district with a solar-biomass system. | Yew, Pei Juan; Chaulagain, Deepak; Same, Noel Ngando; Park, Jaebum; Lim, Jeong-Ok; Huh, Jeung-Soo | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Energy Convergence & Climate Change, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Convergence & Fus Syst Engn, Sangju 37224, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Reg Leading Res Ctr Net Zero Carbon Smart Energy S, Sangju 37224, South Korea | 59330356200; 57208742538; 57895613600; 57237034300; 7403454245; 7102258915 | peijuancy@gmail.com;chaulagaindeepu11@gmail.com;samenoel1@gmail.com;woqja133@naver.com;jolim@knu.ac.kr;jshuh@knu.ac.kr; | SUSTAINABILITY | SUSTAINABILITY-BASEL | 2071-1050 | 16 | 17 | SCIE;SSCI | ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES;ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES;GREEN & SUSTAINABLE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | 2024 | 3.3 | 41.6 | 0.41 | 2025-05-07 | 1 | 2 | hybrid renewable energy system; Malaysia; solar energy; biomass; oil palm; HOMER | BIOMASS; CITY | biomass; HOMER; hybrid renewable energy system; Malaysia; oil palm; solar energy | Johor; Malaysia; West Malaysia; alternative energy; biomass; electricity generation; fossil fuel; greenhouse gas; software; solar power | English | 2024 | 2024-09 | 10.3390/su16177856 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Optimal Machine Learning Model to Predict Demolition Waste Generation for a Circular Economy | A suitable waste-management strategy is crucial for a sustainable and efficient circular economy in the construction sector, and it requires precise data on the volume of demolition waste (DW) generated. Therefore, we developed an optimal machine learning model to forecast the quantity of recycling and landfill waste based on the characteristics of DW. We constructed a dataset comprising information on the characteristics of 150 buildings, demolition equipment utilized, and volume of five waste types generated (i.e., recyclable mineral, recyclable combustible, landfill specified, landfill mix waste, and recyclable minerals). We applied an artificial neural network, decision tree, gradient boosting machine, k-nearest neighbors, linear regression, random forest, and support vector regression. Further, we derived the optimal model through data preprocessing, input variable selection, and hyperparameter tuning. In both the validation and test phases, the "recyclable mineral waste" and "recyclable combustible waste" models achieved accuracies (R2) of 0.987 and 0.972, respectively. The "recyclable metals" and "landfill specified waste" models achieved accuracies (R2) of 0.953 and 0.858 or higher, respectively. Moreover, the "landfill mix waste" model exhibited an accuracy of 0.984 or higher. This study confirmed through Shapley Additive exPlanations analysis that the floor area is the most important input variable in the four models (i.e., recyclable mineral waste, recyclable combustible waste, recyclable metals, and landfill mix waste). Additionally, the type of equipment employed in demolition emerged as another crucial input variable impacting the volume of recycling and landfill waste generated. The results of this study can provide more detailed information on the generation of recycling and landfill waste. The developed model can provide precise data on waste management, thereby facilitating the decision-making process for industry professionals. | Cha, Gi-Wook; Park, Choon-Wook; Kim, Young-Chan | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Acad Res Digital Convergence Scale Up Platform Ctr, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Ind Acad Cooperat Fdn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Dongguk Univ, Div Smart Safety Engn, Wise Campus, Gyeongju 38066, South Korea | 55754413300; 56181530400; 56463201400 | cgwgnr@gmail.com;pcw2379@knu.ac.kr;yyoungchani@gmail.com; | SUSTAINABILITY | SUSTAINABILITY-BASEL | 2071-1050 | 16 | 16 | SCIE;SSCI | ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES;ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES;GREEN & SUSTAINABLE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | 2024 | 3.3 | 41.6 | 1.62 | 2025-05-07 | 6 | 7 | waste management (WM); demolition waste generation (DWG); machine learning; artificial neural network; SHAP analysis | CONSTRUCTION WASTE; CHINA; MANAGEMENT | artificial neural network; demolition waste generation (DWG); machine learning; SHAP analysis; waste management (WM) | artificial neural network; data set; decision making; demolition; landfill; machine learning; recycling; waste management | English | 2024 | 2024-08 | 10.3390/su16167064 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Promoting the Economic Sustainability of Small-Scale Farmers Through Versatile Machinery in the Republic of Korea | The increasing use of tractors and implements is replacing manual labor, but adds financial burdens on small-scale farmers due to rising costs. Many farmers have turned to leasing and renting machinery to mitigate these expenses, while repair and maintenance costs remain significant. Government interventions aim to alleviate these burdens, but income disparities between urban and rural areas persist, and the impact of machinery use on climate change and the environment poses further challenges. Strategies like omitting some operation steps and adopting versatile machinery are proposed to cut costs and promote economic sustainability for small-scale farmers. Therefore, this study assessed the economic benefits of using versatile machinery in farming, especially for small-scale rural farmers. Farming processes were divided into field preparation and crop season activities. Field preparation included rotary tillage, ridge formation, and mulching, whereas crop season activities included harvesting and transportation. Annual usage and production cost analyses per hectare, including labor, fuel, and interest, alongside purchasing cost surveys, were conducted. Versatile machinery reduced annual usage costs for field preparation and crop season activities by 63.54% and 71.71%, respectively. This effect was more pronounced for farms under 2 ha, especially those employing manual harvest and transportation. Small-scale farmers, such as those cultivating hot pepper farms, are strongly encouraged to adopt versatile machinery to mitigate expenses and labor costs. The significance of adopting studied methodology will be amplified with the rising cost of labor. Consequently, utilization of versatile machinery in field farming for small-scale farms is projected to increase incomes not through enhanced production, but by significantly reducing the annual usage costs associated with agricultural machinery. This approach not only alleviates financial burdens but also enhances the sustainability of farm management, ensuring long-term viability and environmental stewardship. | Kang, Seokho; Jung, Haesung; Kwon, Seunggwi; Jang, Youngyoon; Woo, Seungmin; Ha, Yushin | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Agr, Dept Bioind Machinery Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Korea Planning & Evaluat Inst Ind Technol, Cheomdan Ro 8,32, Daegu 41069, South Korea; Bulls Co Ltd, Seongju 40053, Gyeongsangbuk D, South Korea; Sungboo Co Ltd, Waegwan 39909, Gyeongsangbuk D, South Korea | 57221791368; 59425641000; 59307206800; 57217873671; 57192074884; 57192072314 | deshshk@knu.ac.kr;jhs3921@keit.re.kr;skgweon@hanmail.net;chang1y@hanmail.com;kooger7571@naver.com;yushin72@knu.ac.kr; | SUSTAINABILITY | SUSTAINABILITY-BASEL | 2071-1050 | 16 | 22 | SCIE;SSCI | ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES;ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES;GREEN & SUSTAINABLE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | 2024 | 3.3 | 41.6 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | 0 | economic sustainability; environmental sustainability; responsible innovation; sustainable management; versatile machinery | NO-TILLAGE; SYSTEMS; IMPACT; SIZE | economic sustainability; environmental sustainability; responsible innovation; sustainable management; versatile machinery | South Korea; climate change; harvesting; income distribution; innovation; machinery; production cost; repair and maintenance; sustainability | English | 2024 | 2024-11 | 10.3390/su162210022 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Quantifying Resource Nexus: Virtual Water Flows, Water Stress Indices, and Unsustainable Import Fraction in South Korea's Grain Trade Landscape | This study delves into the intricate dynamics of South Korea's grain production and trade, specifically scrutinizing water resource management and sustainability trends from 1991 to 2022. The primary objective was to assess the temporal evolution of South Korea's agricultural virtual water trade in maize, soybeans and wheat. Employing the virtual water flows assessment method, water stress index, and an unsustainable import fraction (UIF) analysis, this research aimed to uncover key patterns and dynamics within the agricultural grain trade landscape. Utilizing comprehensive datasets encompassing grain trade, as well as water and land footprint data, this study assessed the intricate interplay between agricultural production, trade, and resource utilization. Results showed a reduction in local production for soybeans and a slight increase in domestic wheat production over the study period. In addition, the study revealed an overall increase in the virtual water imports associated with grain crops, with maize exhibiting the steepest upward trend in comparison with the other grains (wheat and soybeans). Furthermore, the study demonstrated that the import of maize contributed the highest amount of water and land savings, implying that this grain crop had the most significant impact on conserving local water and land resources. Environmental impact assessments, including water stress indices and the unsustainable import fractions, contributed to a comprehensive understanding of grain trade sustainability with concrete result values and insights, highlighting the intricate interplay of international grain trade and local water resource conservation in South Korea. By scrutinizing the virtual land and water dimensions of grain trade, this research offers valuable insights for policymakers and researchers striving to navigate the nexus of agriculture, trade, and resource management. The findings hold significance in the context of ensuring food security, optimizing resource allocation, and fostering sustainable agricultural practices in a dynamically evolving global landscape. | Odey, Golden; Adelodun, Bashir; Adeyi, Qudus; Hammed, Akinsoji Adisa; Abiodun, Salau Rahmon; Choi, Kyung Sook | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Agr Civil Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Univ Ilorin, Dept Agr & Biosyst Engn, Ilorin 240103, Nigeria; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Inst Agr Sci & Technol, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Adelodun, Bashir/O-2941-2018; Odey, Golden/MVV-6310-2025 | 57211444984; 57193774482; 58672628000; 58961955700; 58827632400; 54392662900 | goldenodey@knu.ac.kr;adelodun.b@unilorin.edu.ng;adeyi.qudus@knu.ac.kr;adisaakinsoji@gmail.com;olanrewajusalau2790@gmail.com;ks.choi@knu.ac.kr; | SUSTAINABILITY | SUSTAINABILITY-BASEL | 2071-1050 | 16 | 6 | SCIE;SSCI | ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES;ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES;GREEN & SUSTAINABLE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | 2024 | 3.3 | 41.6 | 0.41 | 2025-05-07 | 2 | 3 | virtual water trade; land savings; water stress; food security; South Korea | CLIMATE-CHANGE; LAND-USE; SCARCITY; FOOTPRINT; EVOLUTION; SECURITY; FOOD | food security; land savings; South Korea; virtual water trade; water stress | South Korea; cereal; environmental impact assessment; food security; import; water flow; water resource; water stress | English | 2024 | 2024-03 | 10.3390/su16062419 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Sales in Commercial Alleys and Their Association with Air Pollution: Case Study in South Korea | We investigate the dynamic interplay between air pollution (PM10) and income and their joint association with quarterly sales in commercial alleys, focusing on the pre-COVID-19 (2018-2019) and COVID-19 (2020-2021) periods in Seoul, South Korea. The objective of this study is to identify how air pollution and income collectively influence consumer spending patterns by looking at the increase and decrease in sales in commercial alleys, with a focus on contrasting these effects before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, utilizing advanced machine learning techniques for deeper insights. Using machine learning techniques, including random forest, extreme gradient boosting, catboost, and lightGBM, and employing explainable artificial intelligence (XAI), this study identifies shifts in the significance of predictor variables, particularly PM10, before and during the pandemic. The results show that before the pandemic, PM10 played a notable role in shaping sales predictions, highlighting the sensitivity of sales to air quality. However, during the pandemic, the importance of PM10 decreased significantly, highlighting the transformative indirect impact of external events on consumer behavior. This study also examines the joint association of PM10 and income with sales, revealing distinctive patterns in consumer responses to air quality changes during the pandemic. These findings highlight the need for dynamic modeling to capture evolving consumer behavior and provide valuable insights for businesses and policymakers navigating changing economic and environmental conditions. While this study's focus is on a specific region and time frame, the findings emphasize the importance of adaptability in predictive models and contribute to understanding the complex interplay between environmental and economic factors in shaping consumer spending behavior. | Ashraf, Khadija; Lee, Kangjae; Kim, Geunhan; Kang, Jeon-Young | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Convergence & Fus Syst Engn, 2559 Gyeongsang-daero, Sangju 37224, Gyeongsangbug D, South Korea; Korea Environm Inst, Dept Environm Planning, Sejong 30147, Chungcheongnam, South Korea; Kyung Hee Univ, Dept Geog, 26 Kyungheedae-ro, Seoul 02447, South Korea | ; Kang, Jeon-Young/HQY-7752-2023 | 58848765300; 56040328200; 56579490900; 57195056519 | ashrafkhadija16@knu.ac.kr;kasbiss@knu.ac.kr;ghkim@kei.re.kr;geokang@khu.ac.kr; | SUSTAINABILITY | SUSTAINABILITY-BASEL | 2071-1050 | 16 | 2 | SCIE;SSCI | ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES;ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES;GREEN & SUSTAINABLE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | 2024 | 3.3 | 41.6 | 0 | 2025-04-16 | 0 | 0 | air pollution; explainable artificial intelligence (XAI); joint association of sales and air pollution; machine learning; particulate matter (PM10); quarterly sales | BEHAVIOR | air pollution; explainable artificial intelligence (XAI); joint association of sales and air pollution; machine learning; particulate matter (PM10); quarterly sales | Seoul [South Korea]; South Korea; air quality; artificial intelligence; atmospheric pollution; COVID-19; machine learning; particulate matter; policy making | English | 2024 | 2024-01 | 10.3390/su16020530 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Unveiling Consumer Satisfaction with AI-Generated Museum Cultural and Creative Products Design: Using Importance-Performance Analysis | While artificial intelligence (AI) is being increasingly utilized in the design of museum cultural and creative products (MCCPs), limited research has explored consumer satisfaction with these AI-generated designs. This study quantitatively examined the impact of AI-generated MCCP design on consumer satisfaction and proposed strategies for improvement. A comprehensive evaluation system consisting of fourteen factor indicators across four dimensions was constructed through literature research, user interviews, and expert suggestions. On this basis, a survey with 297 consumers was then conducted using AI-generated cultural and creative products from the Dunhuang Museum. Additionally, the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) method was employed to analyze the importance of various factors in these AI-generated designs and their impacts on consumer satisfaction. The findings revealed that, while consumers expressed high satisfaction in terms of product functionality and creative attraction, improvements are needed in cultural expression and user experience. It is recommended that creating a multimodal museum database, developing structured prompt card models, and building an MCCP design platform with full-process AI participation would help to increase consumer satisfaction. This study can provide theoretical and practical references for the intelligent development of MCCPs' design and promote the sustainable development of cultural heritage. | Li, He; Zhu, Ye; Guo, Qihan; Wang, Jingyu; Shi, Mingxi; Liu, Weishang | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Arts, Daegu 37224, South Korea; Wuhan Univ Technol, Sch Art & Design, Wuhan 430070, Peoples R China; Yanshan Univ, Sch Arts & Design, Qinhuangdao 066004, Peoples R China | ; Wang, Jingyu/AAW-2644-2020 | 59347881400; 59347602600; 59170865600; 59347063700; 59170301700; 57205021057 | tayon13@knu.ac.kr;zhuye366366@gmail.com;349256@whut.edu.cn;happrysherrywang@gmail.com;smx0609@knu.ac.kr;liuweishang@ysu.edu.cn; | SUSTAINABILITY | SUSTAINABILITY-BASEL | 2071-1050 | 16 | 18 | SCIE;SSCI | ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES;ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES;GREEN & SUSTAINABLE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | 2024 | 3.3 | 41.6 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | 2 | AI-generated design; museum cultural and creative product; consumer satisfaction; Importance-Performance Analysis | PERCEIVED VALUE; MODEL | AI-generated design; consumer satisfaction; Importance–Performance Analysis; museum cultural and creative product | China; Dunhuang; Gansu; artificial intelligence; creative industry; cultural heritage; cultural history; database; museum; performance assessment; survey; sustainable development | English | 2024 | 2024-09 | 10.3390/su16188203 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Aminoethoxyvinylglycine and 1-methylcyclopropene treatments affect fruit quality and ethylene production in 'Geum Hwang' peach | This study evaluated the effect of preharvest aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) and postharvest 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) treatments on ethylene production in association with fruit quality changes during 'Geum Hwang' peach ripening. 75 mg L-1 of AVG solution was sprayed to peach trees 7 days before harvest, and 1 mu L L-1 of 1-MCP gas was fumigated to fruits at harvest. Untreated peaches were used as a control. All samples were stored for 12 days at 8 degrees C, and analyses were performed at 4-days intervals. In terms of fruit quality, ethylene production and respiration rate levels in control fruits were 52.1% and 42.2% higher than in AVG-treated fruits and 53.2% and 45.5% higher than in 1-MCP-treated fruits, respectively, at the end of the storage period. The titratable acidity and flesh firmness values were 18.2% and 24.6% higher after AVG and 18.3% and 29.5% higher after 1-MCP treatments than in control samples. On day 8 of storage, lower peel color L* (13.5%) and b* (29.7%) values and higher soluble solids content (6.1%) were observed after 1-MCP but not AVG treatment. However, the peel color a* value was not affected by any treatment. In molecular analyses, AVG and 1-MCP reduced the expression of genes, such as 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) synthase (PpACS1), ACC oxidase (PpACO1), ethylene-response sensor (PpERS1), and ethylene-insensitive 3 (PpEIN3). Additionally, the AVG treatment decreased the expression of PpACS1 (28.6%) on day 4 and PpACO1 (11.2% and 20.5%) and PpERS1 (34.6% and 21.4%) on days 4 and 8 compared to the 1-MCP treatment. In conclusion, AVG and 1-MCP treatments extended the storability and maintained the quality of 'Geum Hwang' peaches, with AVG displaying a more significant inhibitory effect, particularly, on the ethylene-related gene expression levels. | Kim, Hye Yeon; Kwon, Jung-Geum; Lee, Jun-Yong; Yoo, Jingi; Han, A. | ○ | ○ | Article | Cellulose synthesis from germinated tiger nut residue and its application in the production of a functional cookie | In this study, cellulose was synthesized from the residue obtained after germinating tiger nuts for 0, 48, 72 or 96 h. The influence of the synthesized cellulose (0%, 2%, or 5%) on the quality of clove extract laden-cookies was evaluated. The optimum structure, morphology, and thermal properties of cellulose were obtained after geminating tiger nuts for 72 h. Adding cellulose to the dough stabilized the total phenolic, flavonoid, and protein contents and radical scavenging activity during the baking operation. The addition of 2% cellulose generally enhanced the hydration, pasting, and viscoelastic properties of the dough. However, 5% cellulose negatively affected the highlighted properties, culminating in poorer textural and sensory properties of the cookies produced therefrom. Germination could be effective in modifying the properties of cellulose from tiger nuts; thus, enhancing its application in the production of a functional cookie. | Adedeji, Olajide Emmanuel; Abiodun, Olufunmilola Adunni; Adedeji, Omotayo Gloria; Kang, Hye Jee; Istiana, Nur; Min, Ju Hyun; Ayo, Jerome Adekunle; Chinma, Chiemela Enyinnaya; Jung, Young Hoon | Fed Univ Wukari, Dept Food Sci & Technol, PMB 1020, Wukari, Nigeria; Univ Ilorin, Dept Home Econ & Food Sci, PMB 1515, Ilorin, Nigeria; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Food Sci & Biotechnol, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Univ Brawijaya, Dept Food Sci & Biotechnol, Malang 65145, Indonesia; Fed Univ Technol, Dept Food Sci & Nutr, PMB 65, Minna, Nigeria; Univ Johannesburg, Dept Biotechnol & Food Technol, Doornfortein Campus, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa; Fed Univ Technol Minna, Africa Ctr Excellence Mycotoxin & Food Safety, Minna, Nigeria | Abiodun, Olufunmilola/I-3887-2013; Adedeji, Olajide/GYU-3066-2022; Jung, Young/F-1703-2013 | 57202229091; 35809757800; 57889322600; 57219656318; 57208246732; 57217835247; 6602252623; 16038622800; 55550063700 | adedeji@fuwukari.edu.ng; | JOURNAL OF FOOD SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY-MYSORE | J FOOD SCI TECH MYS | 0022-1155 | 0975-8402 | 61 | 10 | SCIE | FOOD SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | 2024 | 3.3 | 41.7 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | 0 | Cellulose; Clove extract; Cyperus esculentus; Functional food; Germination | NANOCRYSTALS; ANTIOXIDANT; EXTRACTION; FIBERS | Cellulose; Clove extract; Cyperus esculentus; Functional food; Germination | Anatomy; Application; Baking; Cellulose; Cultivation; Germination; Production; Viscoelasticity; Abstracting; Cellulose; Cultivation; Structural optimization; Viscoelasticity; Cellulose synthesis; Clove extract; Cyperus esculentus; ITS applications; Optimum structures; Property; Synthesised; Tiger nuts; Total phenolic content; Total protein contents; Germination | English | 2024 | 2024-10 | 10.1007/s13197-024-05972-8 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Extraction and recovery of capsaicin from scotch bonnet by alkaline-based deep eutectic solvent | Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have emerged as green alternatives to conventional organic solvents for the efficient extraction of bioactive compounds. In this study, capsaicin was extracted from Capsicum annuum (C. annuum) by ultrasound-assisted extraction using strong to mild acid- and alkaline-based DESs to compare their extraction efficiency with conventional solvent. Strong alkaline-based DESs extract showed the highest capsaicin content (17.58 +/- 0.28 mg/g) compared with other DESs, including acid-based DES (12.88 +/- 0.11 mg/g) and ethanol (13.85 +/- 0.24 mg/g) (p < 0.05) in the screening of DESs. Furthermore, optimization of alkaline-based DES extraction parameters achieved an increased capsaicin content 19.15 mg/g. Macroporous resins (SP850, XAD2, and XAD16N) were used to recover capsaicin from DES extract, and SP850 showed the highest adsorption and recovery ratio of capsaicin. Moreover, the antioxidant potency of the recovered capsaicin was confirmed using radical scavenging assays. This study provides an eco-friendly, novel, efficient extraction method for obtaining capsaicin from C. annuum. | Cho, Ha-Seong; Olawuyi, Ibukunoluwa Fola; Park, Jong-Jin; Said, Nurul Saadah; Na, Yoo-jin; Lee, Won-Young | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Food Sci & Technol, Daegu 702701, South Korea; Korea Food Res Inst, Food Safety & Distribut Res Grp, Wonju 55365, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Res Inst Tailored Food Technol, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Food Sci & Biotechnol, Daegu 41566, South Korea | ; Lee, Wonyoung/AAL-2780-2021; Olawuyi, Ibukunoluwa/H-1232-2018; Park, Jongjin/AAL-3484-2021; Said, Nurul Saadah/LFV-3208-2024 | 58188941600; 57204471854; 58602432200; 57211398275; 58749049300; 57195940408 | hasung31694@knu.ac.kr;wonyoung@knu.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF FOOD MEASUREMENT AND CHARACTERIZATION | J FOOD MEAS CHARACT | 2193-4126 | 2193-4134 | 18 | 2 | SCIE | FOOD SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | 2024 | 3.3 | 41.7 | 0.68 | 2025-05-07 | 2 | 3 | Deep eutectic solvents; Extraction optimization; Capsicum annuum; Capsaicin; Recovery | ULTRASOUND-ASSISTED EXTRACTION; EFFICIENT EXTRACTION; CAPSICUM-FRUTESCENS; QUANTIFICATION; ANTHOCYANINS; ANTIOXIDANT; GREEN; OPTIMIZATION; FLAVONOIDS; ANNUUM | Capsaicin; Capsicum annuum; Deep eutectic solvents; Extraction optimization; Recovery | Eutectics; Plants (botany); Solvent extraction; Solvents; Alkalines; Bioactive compounds; Capsaicin; Capsaicin content; Capsicum annuum; Deep eutectic solvents; Extraction efficiencies; Extraction optimizations; Mild acid; Ultrasound-assisted extraction; Recovery | English | 2024 | 2024-02 | 10.1007/s11694-023-02296-7 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Identification of Effects of Parylene-C Coating on Electrospun Fibers | As various healthcare technologies such as regenerative medicine, precision medicine, and alternative approaches to animal testing develop, the interest in the use and application of nano- and microfibers is steadily increasing. In this study, the effect of parylene-C coating on electrospun fibers was investigated, and a pattern coating method was developed to expand the potential utilization of parylene-C-coated electrospun fibers. An SEM analysis demonstrated that parylene-C was successfully deposited on the electrospun fibers without any failure such as pinholes or air bubbles. Biocompatibility was investigated through cell tests, which indicated that the coated fibers were non-toxic and supported cell growth well. Tensile tests demonstrated a significant increase in the elastic modulus of the parylene-C-coated fibers, with it nearly quadrupling compared to the original PCL fibers, and the fracture strength almost doubled. At the same time, hydrophobicity was well maintained without any statistically significant changes. In particular, a non-adhesive magnet-metal masking was proposed in order to selectively coat the electrospun fibers with parylene-C with a specific pattern. Furthermore, it was presented that the magnet-metal mask-based coating electrospun nanofibers with parylene-C could be used in the fabrication of hybrid fibers composed of different diameters and materials. | Song, Tae-Ha; Kim, Jeong Hwa; Kim, Dong-Guk; Roh, Jihyoung; Jeong, Young Hun | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Mech Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Daegu Gyeongbuk Med Innovat Fdn K MEDI Hub, Daegu 41061, South Korea; Inst Mech Engn Technol, Daegu 41566, South Korea; ST1 Corp, Busan 46006, South Korea | ; ROH, JiHyoung/MAH-1027-2025 | 55767320100; 56485245200; 59303058300; 57205972756; 56501196300 | taeson@kmedihub.re.kr;qhfekrn89@gmail.com;dgkim@kmedihub.re.kr;jhr726@kmedihub.re.kr;yhjeong@knu.ac.kr; | FIBERS | FIBERS | 2079-6439 | 12 | 8 | ESCI | MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY | 2024 | 3.9 | 41.8 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | 0 | parylene-C; electrospun fibers; chemical vapor deposition; electrospinning; magnet-metal masking | DRUG-DELIVERY; NANOFIBERS | chemical vapor deposition; electrospinning; electrospun fibers; magnet-metal masking; parylene-C | English | 2024 | 2024-08 | 10.3390/fib12080069 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||

| ○ | ○ | Article | Changes in postural stability after cerebrospinal fluid tap test in patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus | Introduction: In patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH), the characteristics of balance disturbance are not as well understood as those related to gait. This study examined changes in postural stability in quiet standing after the cerebrospinal fluid tap test (CSFTT) in these patients. Furthermore, the study explored the relationship between the amount of spontaneous body sway and both gait and executive function. Materials and methods: All patients diagnosed with iNPH underwent CSFTT. We evaluated their center of pressure (COP) measurements on a force plate during quiet standing, both pre- and post-CSFTT. Following the COP measurements, we calculated COP parameters using time and frequency domain analysis and assessed changes in these parameters after CSFTT. At pre-CSFTT, we assessed the Timed Up and Go (TUG) and the Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB). We investigated the relationship between COP parameters and the TUG and FAB scores at pre-CSFTT. Results: A total of 72 patients with iNPH were initially enrolled, and 56 patients who responded positively to CSFTT were finally included. Post-CSFTT, significant improvements were observed in COP parameters through time domain analysis. These included the velocity of COP (vCOP), root-mean-square of COP (rmsCOP), turn index, torque, and base of support (BOS), compared to the pre-CSFTT values (p < 0.05). In the frequency domain analysis of COP parameters post-CSFTT, there was a decrease in both the peak and average of power spectral density (PSD) values in both the anteroposterior (AP) and mediolateral (ML) directions below 0.5 Hz (p < 0.05). In addition, the TUG scores showed a positive correlation with vCOP, rmsCOP, turn index, torque, BOS, and both the peak and average PSD values in the AP and ML directions below 0.5 Hz (p < 0.05). The FAB scores demonstrated a negative correlation with vCOP, rmsCOP, turns index, BOS, and both peak and average PSD values in the AP direction below 0.5 Hz (p < 0.05). Conclusion: In patients with iNPH who responded to CSFTT, there was an improvement in spontaneous body sway during quiet standing after CSFTT. Increased spontaneous sway is associated with impaired gait and frontal lobe function. This may be linked to impaired cortico-cortical and cortico-subcortical circuits in patients with iNPH. | Park, Eunhee; Lee, Sanghyeon; Jung, Tae-Du; Park, Ki-Su; Lee, Jong Taek; Kang, Kyunghun | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Rehabil Med, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Comp Sci & Engn, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Neurosurg, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Neurol, Daegu, South Korea | 56107216400; 57226171120; 36622364500; 55932363100; 24341317500; 55365592200 | jongtaeklee@knu.ac.kr;kyunghun.kang@hotmail.com; | FRONTIERS IN NEUROLOGY | FRONT NEUROL | 1664-2295 | 15 | SCIE | CLINICAL NEUROLOGY;NEUROSCIENCES | 2024 | 2.8 | 41.9 | 0.7 | 2025-04-16 | 1 | 1 | normal pressure hydrocephalus; postural balance; spinal puncture; center of pressure; balance (static) | FRONTAL ASSESSMENT BATTERY; COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT; EXECUTIVE FUNCTION; GAIT DISTURBANCE; BALANCE CONTROL; PARAMETERS; GUIDELINES; FALLS; SWAY | balance (static); center of pressure; normal pressure hydrocephalus; postural balance; spinal puncture | adult; aged; Article; assessment of humans; body position; center of pressure; cerebrospinal fluid tap test; cognition; cognitive defect; diagnostic test; executive function; female; Frontal Assessment Battery; gait; human; iNPH Grading Scale; lumbar puncture; major clinical study; male; mathematical phenomena; Mini Mental State Examination; normotensive hydrocephalus; postural stability; prospective study; timed up and go test | English | 2024 | 2024-05-01 | 10.3389/fneur.2024.1361538 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
