| ○ | ○ | Article | Tribological performance and corrosion resistance of HVOF WC-17 wt. % Co coatings: influence of micro-to-nanoscale morphology | We investigated the wear and corrosion properties of high-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF)-sprayed microstructured and near-nanostructured WC-17 wt. % Co coatings fabricated on steel substrates. The near-nanostructured variant exhibited a high hardness value of similar to 991 Hv, a low corrosion rate of similar to 0.10624 MPY, a low wear rate of similar to 0.0012 mm(3)/m, and a low cumulative wear volume loss of similar to 0.1304 mm(3). Corrosion effects resulted in a reduction of hardness by 23.02% and 30.07% for the near-nanostructured and microstructured samples, respectively; moreover, the wear volume loss of the microstructured coating was 30.02% higher compared to the near-nanostructured coating. We attribute the enhanced corrosion and wear resistance of the near-nanostructured HVOF coating to its dense and uniform surface morphology, low porosity, minimal decarburization, and high hardness. Triboscopic imaging studies further confirmed a low degradation rate, high wear resistance, and minimal wear volume loss. | Zhu, Guanghui A.; Chee, K. -W. (G. | ○ | Article | EXISTENCE AND UNIQUENESS IN ANISOTROPIC CONDUCTIVITY RECONSTRUCTION WITH FARADAY’S LAW | We show that three sets of internal current densities are the right amount of data that give the existence and the uniqueness at the same time in reconstructing an anisotropic conductivity in two space dimensions. The curl free equation of Faraday’s law is taken instead of the usual divergence free equation of the electrical impedance tomography. Boundary conditions related to given current densities are introduced which complete a well determined problem for conductivity reconstruction together with Faraday’s law. © 2023, American Institute of Mathematical Sciences. | ○ | ○ | Article | In-hospital fall prediction using machine learning algorithms and the Morse fall scale in patients with acute stroke: a nested case-control study | BackgroundFalls are one of the most common accidents in medical institutions, which can threaten the safety of inpatients and negatively affect their prognosis. Herein, we developed a machine learning (ML) model for fall prediction in patients with acute stroke and compared its accuracy with that of the existing fall risk prediction tool, the Morse Fall Scale (MFS).MethodsThis is a retrospective nested case-control study. The initial sample size was 8462 admitted to a single cerebrovascular specialty hospital with acute stroke. A total of 156 fall events occurred, and each fall case was randomly matched with six control cases. Six ML algorithms were used, namely, regularized logistic regression, support vector machine, naive Bayes (NB), k-nearest neighbors, random forest, and extreme-gradient boosting (XGB).ResultsWe included 156 in the fall group and 934 in the non-fall group. The mean ages of the fall and non-fall groups were 68.3 (+/- 12.2) and 65.3 (+/- 12.9) years old, respectively. The MFS total score was significantly higher in the fall group (54.3 +/- 18.3) than in the non-fall group (37.7 +/- 14.7). The area under the receiver operating curve (AUROC) of the MFS in predicting falls was 0.76 (0.73-0.79). XGB had the highest AUROC of 0.85 (0.78-0.92), and XGB and NB had the highest F1 score of 0.44.ConclusionsThe AUROC values of all of ML algorithms were similar to those of the MFS in predicting fall risk in patients with acute stroke, allowing for accurate and efficient fall screening. | Choi, Jun Hwa; Choi, Eun Suk; Park, Dougho | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Nursing, 680 Gukchaebosang Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Pohang Stroke & Spine Hosp, Dept Qual Improvement, Pohang, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Res Inst Nursing Sci, Daegu, South Korea; Pohang Stroke & Spine Hosp, Med Res Inst, 352 Huimang Daero, Pohang 37659, South Korea; Pohang Univ Sci & Technol, Sch Convergence Sci & Technol, Dept Med Sci & Engn, Pohang, South Korea | Park, Dougho/HHS-3971-2022 | 57486087100; 56542373200; 57221124200 | eschoi2007@knu.ac.kr;parkdougho@gmail.com; | BMC MEDICAL INFORMATICS AND DECISION MAKING | BMC MED INFORM DECIS | 1472-6947 | 23 | 1 | SCIE | MEDICAL INFORMATICS | 2023 | 3.3 | 42.0 | 0.95 | 2025-06-25 | 9 | 6 | Accidental falls; Machine learning; Risk assessment; Stroke | RISK-ASSESSMENT TOOL; PREVENTION; INPATIENTS; VALIDITY; INDEX | Accidental falls; Machine learning; Risk assessment; Stroke | Algorithms; Bayes Theorem; Case-Control Studies; Hospitals; Humans; Machine Learning; Retrospective Studies; Stroke; algorithm; Bayes theorem; case control study; cerebrovascular accident; hospital; human; machine learning; retrospective study | English | 2023 | 2023-11-01 | 10.1186/s12911-023-02330-0 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Genetic diagnosis of kidney disease by whole exome sequencing and its clinical application | The genetic spectrum of genetic kidney diseases (GKD) and the application of genetic diagnoses to patient care were assessed by whole exome sequencing (WES) of the DNA of 172 pediatric or adult patients with various kidney diseases. WES diagnosed genetic diseases in 63 (36.6%) patients. The diagnostic yields in patients with glomerulopathy were 33.8% (25/74 pts) due to variants in 10 genes, 58.8% (20/34) in patients with tubulointerstitial disease due to variants in 18 genes, 33.3% (15/45) in patients with cystic disease/ciliopathy due to variants in 10 genes, 18.2% (2/11) in patients with congenital anomalies of the kidneys and urinary tract (CAKUT) due to variants in two genes, and 12.5% (1/8) in patients with end stage kidney disease (ESKD). The diagnosis rate was high in patients aged = 40 years (9.1%). Renal phenotype was reclassified in 10 (15.9%) of 63 patients and clinical management altered in 10 (15.9%) of 63 patients after genetic diagnosis. In conclusion, these findings demonstrated the diagnostic utility of WES and its effective clinical application in patients, with various kinds of kidney diseases, across the different age groups. | Jung, Jiwon; Lee, Joo Hoon; Seo, Go Hun; Keum, Changwon; Kang, Hee Gyung; Cho, Heeyeon; Lee, Hajeong; Park, Su-Kil; Baek, Chung Hee; Han, Ro; Lee, Sang Taek; Cho, Min Hyun; Yim, Hyung Eun; Koo, Ja wook; Lee, Beom Hee | Univ Ulsan, Asan Med Ctr Childrens Hosp, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, Seoul, South Korea; 3billion Inc, Seoul, South Korea; Seoul Natl Univ, Childrens Hosp, Coll Med, Dept Pediat, Seoul, South Korea; Sungkyunkwan Univ, Samsung Med Ctr, Dept Pediat, Sch Med, Seoul, South Korea; Seoul Natl Univ, Seoul Natl Univ Hosp, Dept Internal Med,Coll Med, Div Nephrol, Seoul, South Korea; Univ Ulsan, Asan Med Ctr,Coll Med, Dept Internal Med, Div Nephrol, Seoul, South Korea; Gachon Univ, Coll Med,Gil Med Ctr, Dept Internal Med, Div Nephrol, Incheon, South Korea; Sungkyunkwan Univ, Samsung Changwon Hosp, Dept Pediat, Sch Med, Chang Won, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Pediat, Daegu, South Korea; Korea Univ, Korea Univ Ansan Hosp, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, Ansan, South Korea; Inje Univ, Sanggye Paik Hosp, Coll Med, Dept Pediat, Seoul, South Korea; Univ Ulsan, Asan Med Ctr Childrens Hosp, Med Genet Ctr, Coll Med, Seoul, South Korea; Univ Ulsan, Asan Med Ctr Childrens Hosp, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, 88,Olymp Ro 43 Gil, Seoul 05505, South Korea | Yim, Hyung Eun/ACH-7781-2022 | 56518750800; 37112404100; 57062033100; 57210465047; 7404071546; 15724272900; 36554389800; 18438447500; 55013637800; 58068544800; 55894836400; 7401727726; 7005664911; 26221103500; 55513175800 | bhlee@amc.seoul.kr; | CLINICAL GENETICS | CLIN GENET | 0009-9163 | 1399-0004 | 104 | 3 | SCIE | GENETICS & HEREDITY | 2023 | 2.9 | 42.1 | 0.34 | 2025-06-25 | 3 | 2 | diagnosis; genetic kidney disease; phenotype; whole exome sequencing | CONGENITAL-ANOMALIES; MOLECULAR DIAGNOSIS; CAUSATIVE MUTATIONS; NEPHROTIC SYNDROME; MEDICINE; MAJORITY; CHILDREN | diagnosis; genetic kidney disease; phenotype; whole exome sequencing | Exome Sequencing; Humans; Kidney; Nephritis, Interstitial; Phenotype; Urinary Tract; genomic DNA; adult; Article; blood; buccal swab; child; ciliopathy; congenital malformation; controlled study; diagnostic value; end stage renal disease; female; gene frequency; genetic disorder; genetic screening; glomerulopathy; groups by age; human; infant; kidney disease; kidney polycystic disease; major clinical study; male; onset age; patient care; phenotype; software; statistical significance; whole exome sequencing; interstitial nephritis; kidney; phenotype; urinary tract; whole exome sequencing | English | 2023 | 2023-09 | 10.1111/cge.14382 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | 3D-nanostructured MoS2 nanoscroll with highly active sites for improving NO2 gas detection | Assembly operations can transform simple structures into complicated topologies such as crumples, folds, and scrolls, offering extraordinary electronic and optical properties. Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichal-cogenides (TMDC) nanoscrolls have attracted attention for their distinctive and excellent characteristics. How-ever, their chemically inert surface limits scalability in various applications. This study exploits the scrolling characteristics of three-dimensional nanostructured 2D MoS2 (3DN-MoS2) to improve NO2 detection. By growing 3DN-MoS2 and applying high strain energy through an ethanol solution-based drop-casting process, the material self-assembles in the direction of high strain energy. To confirm the applicability of opened active sites in nanostructure interlayers, we fabricated a scrolled 3DN-MoS2 gas sensor, demonstrating a 28-fold sensitivity enhancement compared to pristine 3DN-MoS2. The unique assembly operation of nanostructures enables ver-satile applications, including the detection of toxic gases at low concentrations and low operating temperatures. | Park, Hoyeon; Park, Jaeseo; Kang, Sang-Woo; Jeong, Soo-Hwan | Korea Res Inst Stand & Sci, Adv Instrumentat Inst, Daejeon 34113, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Chem Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Univ Sci & Technol, Precis Measurement, Daejeon 34113, South Korea | , SooHwanJeong/JOJ-6732-2023 | 58283221700; 57193167941; 13607652400; 7402425359 | swkang@kriss.re.kr;shjeong@knu.ac.kr; | MATERIALS LETTERS | MATER LETT | 0167-577X | 1873-4979 | 349 | SCIE | MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.7 | 42.2 | 0.25 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 2 | 2D material; MoS2; Nanoscroll; 3D nanostructure; Gas sensor | QUALITY CARBON NANOSCROLLS; MONOLAYER; PERFORMANCE | 2D material; 3D nanostructure; Gas sensor; MoS2; Nanoscroll | Chemical sensors; Gas detectors; Gases; Layered semiconductors; Nanostructures; Nitrogen oxides; Optical properties; Strain energy; Transition metals; 2d material; 3-D nanostructures; Active site; Assembly operations; Gas detection; Gas-sensors; High strains; Nano-structured; Nanoscrolls; Simple structures; Molybdenum compounds | English | 2023 | 2023-10-15 | 10.1016/j.matlet.2023.134733 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Relation between chemical reduction and crystalline growth in mixtures of low-dimensional NiO and reduced graphene oxide | The carbothermal and graphenothermal reduction of metal oxide and graphite or graphene systems are critical for obtaining pure metals and designing new energy materials. However, the nano-level differences between these processes have not been investigated in detail. Herein, we investigate the relationship between crystalline growth and chemical reduction during the heat-treatment of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and NiO nanoparticles. The heat-treated RGO/NiO mixtures exhibit complex interactions. Below a critical NiO concentration, the crystalline growth of RGO and NiO take precedence. Above this threshold, drastic Ni formation occurs by the chemical reduction of NiO. This demonstrates a concentration-dependent competitive relationship between chemical reduction and crystalline growth. Two factors require further study, namely, the low-dimensional shape/contact-dependent chemical reactivity between RGO and NiO, and the thermodynamic size-dependent driving force for crystalline growth of individual RGO and NiO crystals. | Jee, Youngho; Ahn, Hae Jun; Kim, Sun Jie; Lee, Se-Hee; Kim, Kyeong-Wung; Kim, Chang Min; Huh, Seung Hun | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Chem, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Cresin Co Ltd, Graphene Res Lab, Gyeongsangbukdo 40040, South Korea; Korea Inst Ceram Engn & Technol KICET, Ceram Total Solut Ctr, Jinju 52851, South Korea | 57216584129; 58025926900; 58025142700; 58026717700; 58026717800; 55697761200; 35253836400 | shhuh@kicet.re.kr; | MATERIALS LETTERS | MATER LETT | 0167-577X | 1873-4979 | 336 | SCIE | MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.7 | 42.2 | 0.12 | 2025-06-25 | 1 | 1 | Carbothermal reduction; Graphenothermal reduction; Nickel oxide; Reduced graphene oxide | CARBOTHERMAL REDUCTION; KINETICS; NICKEL | Carbothermal reduction; Graphenothermal reduction; Nickel oxide; Reduced graphene oxide | Carbothermal reduction; Graphene; % reductions; Chemical reduction; Crystalline growth; Energy materials; Graphenothermal reduction; Low dimensional; Metal-oxide; New energies; Pure metals; Reduced graphene oxides; Nickel oxide | English | 2023 | 2023-04-01 | 10.1016/j.matlet.2023.133870 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Switching mechanisms of CMOS-compatible ECRAM transistors-Electrolyte charging and ion plating | To elucidate the internal chemical physics of measured CMOS-compatible electrochemical random-access memory (ECRAM) devices, we constructed a 2D semiconductor device simulation, including ions and electrochemical reactions, and used it to fit measured devices. We present the results of a device simulation model that includes Cu+ ions' diffusion and the charge transfer reaction between the WOx conduction band electron and Cu+ (i.e., "Cu plating"). Reproducing the linear response of ECRAM devices, the effect of charging HfOx by the Cu+ ions is sufficient, and WOx is not being doped by the Cu+ ions. While potentiation is supported by the formation of an electron channel, an efficient depression requires the formation of high positive charge density at the channel material. At higher Cu+ flux, Cu+ reaches and penetrates the WOx layer. While this effect enhances the potentiation response, it also initiates the "plating" reactions. Including this reaction is essential to reproducing the data of devices exhibiting sub-linear responses. We suggest that electron trapping by ions (i.e., plating) would constitute a long-term degradation process even for H+ based devices. | Tessler, Nir; Kim, Nayeon; Kang, Heebum; Woo, Jiyong | Technion Israel Inst Technol, Sara & Moshe Zisapel Nanoelect Ctr Elect & Comp En, IL-32000003 Haifa, Israel; Columbia Univ, Dept Earth & Environm Engn, New York, NY 10027 USA; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Tessler, Nir/A-9849-2008 | 7007034316; 59884547500; 57232405900; 53985749100 | nir@technion.ac.il; | JOURNAL OF APPLIED PHYSICS | J APPL PHYS | 0021-8979 | 1089-7550 | 134 | 7 | SCIE | PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.7 | 42.2 | 0.87 | 2025-06-25 | 7 | 7 | CMOS integrated circuits; Copper compounds; Electrolytes; Electrons; Hafnium compounds; Ion implantation; Chemical physics; CMOS Compatible; Cu ions; Electrochemicals; Ion plating; Linear response; Memory transistors; Random access memory; Semiconductor device simulation; Switching mechanism; Charge transfer | English | 2023 | 2023-08-21 | 10.1063/5.0154153 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | Article | Ultralow Fe augmented defect-prone porous carbon for highly efficient supercapacitor | An ultralow Fe-modulated hierarchical porous carbon structure was prepared by defect engineering. Unique porous nature, accessibility, pathway for electron transfer and active site density synergistically contribute to excellent supercapacitor. Defect induced high surface area of Fe-N-doped carbon exhibit 825 F g-1 capacitance at a current density of 0.5 A g-1. An aqueous symmetric system showed capacitance of 87.9 F g-1 with a specific energy of 12.66 Wh Kg-1 and specific power of 677 W Kg-1 at 1.0 A g-1. | ○ | ○ | Article | Molecular Phylogeny and Morphology of Tolypocladium globosum sp. nov. Isolated from Soil in Korea | In this study, fungal strains designated as KNUF-22-14A and KNUF-22-15A were isolated from soil samples in Korea. These two strains were identified based on cultural and morphological characteristics as well as phylogenetic analyses and were found to be morphologically and phylogenetically identical. Upon their morphological comparison with closely related species, such as Tolypocladium album, T. amazonense, T. endophyticum, T. pustulatum, and T. tropicale, a difference in the size of short phialides [0.6-2.4(-9.3) x 0.8-1.4 mu m] was observed. Meanwhile, these strains had larger conidia (1.2-3.0 x 1.2-3.0 mu m) than T. album, T. amazonense, T. endophyticum, and T. tropicale and smaller conidia than T. pustulatum. Phylogenetic analyses using a multi-locus datasets based on ITS, LSU, and SSU showed that KNUF-22-14A and KNUF-22-15A formed a distinct cluster from previously identified Tolypocladium species. Thus, these fungal strains isolated from soil in Korea are proposed as a novel species according to their characteristics and are named Tolypocladium globosum sp. nov. | Das, Kallol; Ryu, Jung-Joo; Hong, Soo-Min; Lim, Seong-Keun; Lee, Seung-Yeol; Jung, Hee-Young | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Agr & Life Sci, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Inst Plant Med, Daegu, South Korea | Das, Kallol/AAR-6707-2020 | 57203751520; 57226333274; 57424231800; 57756003900; 56106499600; 7403029383 | heeyoung@knu.ac.kr; | MYCOBIOLOGY | MYCOBIOLOGY | 1229-8093 | 2092-9323 | 51 | 2 | SCIE | AGRONOMY;MYCOLOGY | 2023 | 1.6 | 42.5 | 1.25 | 2025-06-25 | 6 | 7 | Phylogeny; soil-inhabiting fungi; sordariomycetes; Tolypocladium globosum | CYCLOSPORINE-A; CORDYCEPS; OPHIOCORDYCIPITACEAE; HYPOCREALES; METABOLITE; EVOLUTION; FUNGI | Phylogeny; soil-inhabiting fungi; sordariomycetes; Tolypocladium globosum | English | 2023 | 2023-03-04 | 10.1080/12298093.2023.2192614 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Morphological and Phylogenetic Analyses Reveal a New Species of Genus Monochaetia Belonging to the Family Sporocadaceae in Korea | The fungal strain belonging to the genus Monochaetia of the family Sporocadaceae was isolated from hairy long-horned toad beetle (Moechotypa diphysis) during the screening of microfungi associated with insects from Gangwon Province, Korea. The strain KNUF-6L2F produced white, light brown to dirty black surface, and olivaceous green colonies with the higher growth, while the closest strain M. ilicis KUMCC 15-0520(T) were light brown to brown, and M. schimae SAUCC 212201T light brown to brown toward center. The strain KNUF-6L2F produced shorter (5.7-14.0 mu m) apical appendages than M. ilicis (6.0-24.0 mu m), but similar to M. schimae (7.0-12.5 mu m). Three median cells of KNUF-6L2F were light brown to olivaceous green, whereas brown and olivaceous cells were observed from M. ilicis and M. schimae, respectively. And the strain KNUF-6L2F produced larger conidiogenous cells than M. ilicis and M. schimae. Additionally, phylogenetic analyses based on molecular datasets of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions, translation elongation factor 1-alpha (TEF1 alpha), and beta-tubulin (TUB2) genes corroborated the strain's originality. Thus, the strain is different from other known Monochaetia species, according to molecular phylogeny and morophology, hence we suggested the new species Monochaetia mediana sp. nov. and provided a descriptive illustration. | Lim, Seong-Keun; Das, Kallol; Hong, Soo-Min; Suh, Sang Jae; Lee, Seung-Yeol; Jung, Hee-Young | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Agr & Life Sci, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Inst Plant Med, Daegu, South Korea | ; Das, Kallol/AAR-6707-2020 | 57756003900; 57203751520; 57424231800; 15754843200; 56106499600; 7403029383 | leesy1123@knu.ac.kr; | MYCOBIOLOGY | MYCOBIOLOGY | 1229-8093 | 2092-9323 | 51 | 2 | SCIE | AGRONOMY;MYCOLOGY | 2023 | 1.6 | 42.5 | 0.71 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 4 | Moechotypa diphysis; Monochaetia; morphology; phylogeny; Sporocadaceae | YUNNAN PROVINCE; PRIMER SETS; IDENTIFICATION; EVOLUTION; NUCLEAR; DISEASE | Moechotypa diphysis; Monochaetia; morphology; phylogeny; Sporocadaceae | English | 2023 | 2023-03-04 | 10.1080/12298093.2023.2195735 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Neocucurbitaria chlamydospora sp. nov.: A Novel Species of the Family Cucurbitariaceae Isolated from a Stink Bug in Korea | The fungal strain KNUF-22-18B, belonging to Cucurbitariaceae, was discovered from a stink bug (Hygia lativentris) during the investigation of insect microbiota in Chungnam Province, South Korea. The colonies of the strain KNUF-22-18B were wooly floccose, white to brown in the center on oatmeal agar (OA), and the colonies were buff, margin even, and colorless, reverse white to yellowish toward the center on malt extract agar (MEA). The strain KNUF-22-18B produced pycnidia after 60 days of culturing on potato dextrose agar, but pycnidia were not observed on OA. On the contrary, N. keratinophila CBS 121759(T) abundantly formed superficial pycnidia on OA and MEA after a few days. The strain KNUF-22-18B produced chlamydospores subglobose to globose, mainly in the chain, with a small diameter of 4.4-8.8 mu m. At the same time, N. keratinophila CBS 121759(T) displayed a globose terminal with a diameter of 8-10 mu m. A multilocus phylogeny using the internal transcribed spacer regions, 28S rDNA large subunit, beta-tubulin, and RNA polymerase II large subunit genes further validated the uniqueness of the strain. The detailed description and illustration of the proposed species as Neocucurbitaria chlamydospora sp. nov. from Korea was strongly supported by molecular phylogeny. | Hong, Soo-Min; Das, Kallol; Lim, Seong-Keun; Suh, Sang Jae; Lee, Seung-Yeol; Jung, Hee-Young | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Agr & Life Sci, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Inst Plant Med, Daegu, South Korea | Das, Kallol/AAR-6707-2020 | 57424231800; 57203751520; 57756003900; 15754843200; 56106499600; 7403029383 | heeyoung@knu.ac.kr; | MYCOBIOLOGY | MYCOBIOLOGY | 1229-8093 | 2092-9323 | 51 | 3 | SCIE | AGRONOMY;MYCOLOGY | 2023 | 1.6 | 42.5 | 0.71 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 4 | Stink bug; Hygia lativentris; morphology; Neocucurbitaria chlamydospora | IDENTIFICATION; PHYLOGENY | Hygia lativentris; morphology; Neocucurbitaria chlamydospora; Stink bug | English | 2023 | 2023-05-04 | 10.1080/12298093.2023.2203973 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Taxonomy of Botryotrichum luteum sp. nov. based on Morphology and Phylogeny Isolated from Soil in Korea | In this study, a fungal strain KNUF-22-025 belonging to the genus Botryotrichum was isolated from the soil in Korea. The cultural and morphological characteristics of this strain differed from those of closely related species. On malt extract agar, strain KNUF-22-025 showed slower growth than most of the related species, except B. domesticum. The conidia size (9.6-21.1 x 9.9-18.4 mu m) of strain KNUF-22-025 was larger than those of B. piluliferum, B. domesticum, and B. peruvianum but smaller than those of B. atrogriseum and B. iranicum. Conidiophores in strain KNUF-22-025 (137 mu m) were longer than those in other closely related species but shorter than those in B. atrogriseum. Multi-locus analysis of molecular markers, such as ITS, 28S ribosomal DNA, RBP2, and TUB2 revealed that strain KNUF-22-025 was distinct from other Botryotrichum species. Thus, this strain is proposed as a novel species based on morphological characteristics along with molecular phylogeny and named Botryotrichum luteum sp. nov. | Ryu, Jung-Joo; Das, Kallol; Lim, Seong-Keun; Hong, Soo-Min; Lee, Seung-Yeol; Jung, Hee-Young | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Agr & Life Sci, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Inst Plant Med, Daegu, South Korea | Das, Kallol/AAR-6707-2020 | 57226333274; 57203751520; 57756003900; 57424231800; 56106499600; 7403029383 | heeyoung@knu.ac.kr; | MYCOBIOLOGY | MYCOBIOLOGY | 1229-8093 | 2092-9323 | 51 | 2 | SCIE | AGRONOMY;MYCOLOGY | 2023 | 1.6 | 42.5 | 0.18 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 1 | Botryotrichum luteum; morphology; phylogeny; saprotrophic soil fungi | Botryotrichum luteum; morphology; phylogeny; saprotrophic soil fungi | English | 2023 | 2023-03-04 | 10.1080/12298093.2023.2192613 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Abdominal compartment syndrome caused by severe acute gastric distension in a patient with COVID-19: A case report | Rationale:The clinical manifestation of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) ranges from asymptomatic to critical. The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is involved in the early stages of the disease and is recognized as an important entry site for the virus. Consequently, GI manifestations are common in patients with COVID-19; however, the GI presentation of COVID-19 in relation to bowel dilatation has rarely been reported. Here, we report a case of acute severe gastric distension resulting in aortic compression and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) in a patient with COVID-19. Patient concerns:A 72-year-old male presented to the emergency department (ED) with severe abdominal distension. The patient had been confirmed to have COVID-19 5 days prior to the visit. Diagnoses:Computed tomography revealed critical abdominal distension with severe gastric dilatation, accompanied by compression of the abdominal aorta and distal thrombosis formation. Interventions:Intravenous fluid resuscitation and support with inotropic agents were initiated immediately, and a large amount of gastric content was evacuated via a nasogastric (NG) tube. Outcome:Finally, the patient was discharged after 12 days of admission without obvious complications. Lessons:ACS is critical, which can be caused by a severe degree of acute gastric distension (AGD). Evacuation of the intraluminal contents is the most efficient management strategy. Prognosis is poor, and most previous studies of the transition from AGD to ACS have reported unfavorable outcomes. | Park, Ki Bum; Nho, Woo Young | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Chilgok Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Surg, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Emergency Med, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Emergency Med, 130 Dongdeok ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea | Nho, Woo Young/JLN-0752-2023 | 57220965452; 57215831839 | parkeagle82@naver.com;Wooyoung.nho@gmail.com; | MEDICINE | MEDICINE | 0025-7974 | 1536-5964 | 102 | 28 | SCIE | MEDICINE, GENERAL & INTERNAL | 2023 | 1.4 | 42.7 | 0.26 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 1 | abdominal compartment syndrome; case report; COVID-19; gastric distension; intra-abdominal hypertension; pandemic | INTRAABDOMINAL HYPERTENSION; DILATATION | abdominal compartment syndrome; case report; COVID-19; gastric distension; intra-abdominal hypertension; pandemic | Abdomen; Acute Disease; Aged; Aorta, Abdominal; COVID-19; Gastric Dilatation; Humans; Intra-Abdominal Hypertension; Male; alanine aminotransferase; C reactive protein; cephalosporin; enoxaparin; hemoglobin; infusion fluid; inotropic agent; lactate dehydrogenase; metronidazole; prokinetic agent; remdesivir; abdominal aorta; abdominal compartment syndrome; abdominal discomfort; abdominal distension; abdominal pressure; acute disease; aged; alanine aminotransferase level; antibiotic prophylaxis; antibiotic therapy; anticoagulant therapy; antiviral therapy; Article; aspartate aminotransferase blood level; aspartate aminotransferase level; atrophic gastritis; case report; clinical article; computer assisted tomography; coronavirus disease 2019; diabetes mellitus; disease severity; emergency ward; esophagogastroduodenoscopy; fluid resuscitation; follow up; hemoglobin blood level; heparin induced thrombocytopenia; human; intensive care unit; lactate dehydrogenase blood level; leukocyte count; liver congestion; male; medical history; platelet count; protein blood level; respiratory acidosis; somnolence; stomach content; stomach distension; thrombosis; abdomen; acute disease; complication; coronavirus disease 2019; intraabdominal hypertension | English | 2023 | 2023-07-14 | 10.1097/md.0000000000034326 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Review | Adenomyoma of the ampulla of Vater mimicking malignancy: A case report and literature review | Rationale:Adenomyoma is a rare reactive, hamartomatous benign tumor-like lesion. Although adenomyoma can occur anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract, including the gallbladder, stomach, duodenum, and jejunum, it is very rarely observed in the extrahepatic bile duct and ampulla of Vater (AOV). The preoperative accurate diagnosis of adenomyoma of the Vaterian system, including the AOV and common bile duct, is significant to appropriate patient management. However, discriminating between benign and malignancy is highly challenging. Patients are frequently mistaken as having periampullary malignancy, thereby leading to unnecessary extensive surgical resection with a high risk of complications. Patient concerns:A 47-year-old woman visited a local hospital owing to epigastric and right upper-quadrant abdominal pain for 2 days. Diagnoses:Abdominal ultrasonography performed in the local hospital revealed suspicious of a distal common bile duct malignancy. She was transferred to our hospital for further evaluation and management. Interventions:After consulting with the patient, a multidisciplinary team, including a gastroenterologist, finally decided to perform surgery under the impression of an ampullary malignancy, and pylorus-preserving pancreatoduodenectomy was performed without any complications. She was histopathologically diagnosed with an adenomyoma of the AOV. Outcomes:At the 5-year follow-up, she was well and did not develop further symptoms or complications. Lessons:Although adenomyoma is very rare, it should be included in the differential diagnosis of mass-like lesions of the AOV to avoid unnecessary surgeries. | Kwon, Hyung Jun; Kim, Sang Geol; Park, Jinyoung | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Surg, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Dept Surg, 130 Dongduk ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea | Kim, Kyung/I-5501-2015 | 57199757347; 21735842600; 57190865032 | kwonhj95@knu.ac.kr;ksg@knu.ac.kr;kpnugs@knu.ac.kr; | MEDICINE | MEDICINE | 0025-7974 | 1536-5964 | 102 | 24 | SCIE | MEDICINE, GENERAL & INTERNAL | 2023 | 1.4 | 42.7 | 0.51 | 2025-06-25 | 3 | 2 | adenomyoma; ampulla of Vater; case report; pancreatoduodenectomy | BILE-DUCT; PAPILLA | adenomyoma; ampulla of Vater; case report; pancreatoduodenectomy | Adenomyoma; Ampulla of Vater; Common Bile Duct; Common Bile Duct Neoplasms; Female; Humans; Middle Aged; Pancreaticoduodenectomy; bilirubin; bilirubin glucuronide; C reactive protein; CA 19-9 antigen; carcinoembryonic antigen; abdominal tenderness; adult; Article; cancer diagnosis; cancer patient; cancer size; cancer surgery; case report; clinical article; computer assisted tomography; differential diagnosis; echography; endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography; endoscopic ultrasonography; epigastric pain; excision; extrahepatic bile duct; female; follow up; histopathology; human; human tissue; medical history; middle aged; pancreaticoduodenectomy; physical examination; surgical technique; tumor volume; upper abdominal pain; Vater papilla carcinoma; adenomyoma; ampulla of Vater; bile duct tumor; common bile duct; diagnostic imaging; pathology | English | 2023 | 2023-06-16 | 10.1097/md.0000000000034080 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Anesthetic management for surgery in a nemaline myopathy patient with difficult airway: A CARE-compliant case report | Rationale:Nemaline myopathy (NM) is a congenital disease characterized by nonprogressive or slowly progressing muscle weakness and may increase the risk of anesthesia in case of respiratory muscle or cardiac involvement. Care should be taken to prevent respiratory failure after surgery.Patient concerns:A 35-year-old man with NM, who had difficult airway, restrictive ventilatory pattern, and pulmonary hypertension, required general anesthesia for surgery because of limited mouth opening.Diagnoses:The patient was diagnosed with NM (ACTA1 mutation) and coronoid hyperplasia.Interventions:Awake fiberoptic nasal intubation was performed following preparations for analgesia. General anesthesia was maintained using inhalational anesthetics and opioids without using neuromuscular blocking agents.Outcomes:General anesthesia remained well maintained during surgery, with no movement or spontaneous breathing of the patient and he recovered from anesthesia uneventfully without complications.Lessons:This report highlights the safe performance of anesthesia induction and recovery in a case where anesthesia management is necessary for surgery in a patient of NM at a high risk of anesthesia-related complications. | Jung, Hoon; Kim, Hyunjee; Lee, See Woo | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Anesthesiol & Pain Med, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Anesthesiol & Pain Med, 130 Dongdeok Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea | 55967121200; 57208674365; 58654800300 | 2019ksnacc@gmail.com;hj_kim@knu.ac.kr;bz2020anes@gmail.com; | MEDICINE | MEDICINE | 0025-7974 | 1536-5964 | 102 | 46 | SCIE | MEDICINE, GENERAL & INTERNAL | 2023 | 1.4 | 42.7 | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 0 | airway management; endotracheal intubation; general anesthesia; nemaline myopathy; neuromuscular blocking agents | PULMONARY ARTERIAL-HYPERTENSION; CORE MYOPATHIES | airway management; endotracheal intubation; general anesthesia; nemaline myopathy; neuromuscular blocking agents | Adult; Anesthesia, General; Anesthetics, Inhalation; Humans; Intubation, Intratracheal; Male; Muscle Weakness; Myopathies, Nemaline; anesthetic agent; esmolol; glycopyrronium; lidocaine; midazolam; opiate; phenylephrine; propofol; remifentanil; sevoflurane; inhalation anesthetic agent; adult; airway pressure; anesthetic recovery; anxiety; arterial gas; arthroplasty; Article; artificial ventilation; blood gas analysis; body temperature; breathing; breathing rate; carbon dioxide tension; case report; clinical article; computer assisted tomography; continuous infusion; difficult airway management; electrocardiogram; endotracheal intubation; fraction of inspired oxygen; gene mutation; general anesthesia; heart catheterization; heart ejection fraction; heart stroke volume; hospital admission; hospital discharge; human; hyoid bone; hyperplasia; inferior cava vein; intensive care unit; intubation; male; medical history; mouth; muscle strength; muscle weakness; nasotracheal intubation; nemaline myopathy; nerve block; operative blood loss; oxygen tension; pH; positive end expiratory pressure ventilation; preoperative evaluation; pulmonary hypertension; pulmonary valve insufficiency; pulse oximetry; pulse rate; radial artery; right ventricular hypertrophy; ST segment depression; superior laryngeal nerve; systolic blood pressure; temporomandibular joint; tidal volume; transtracheal drug administration; tricuspid valve regurgitation; two dimensional echocardiography; vocal cord; complication; nemaline myopathy | English | 2023 | 2023-11-17 | 10.1097/md.0000000000036174 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 |
