| ○ | ○ | Article | Molecular characterization and phylogenetic position of Rotylenchus pini Mamiya, 1968 (Nematoda: Hoplolaimidae) from Korea, with remarks on its morphology and morphometrics | Rotylenchus pini Mamiya, 1968 was reported from rhizospheric soils of Zoysia japonica in Korea. Females and males are morphologically characterized and their linked DNA barcodes (18S-rRNA, 28S-rRNA and COI) supplied. Females and males of the characterized population conform to the original species description from Japan and also to other subsequent species descriptions with variations in a few details in morphometrics including the existence of pharyngeal gland overlap in some specimen. Bayesian phylogenetic analysis of all the three DNA markers consistently grouped R. pini together with Rotylenchus species including R. zhongshanensis, a morphologically close species. Additionally, the newly obtained sequences of R. pini were found to be almost identical to the sequences assigned to Rotylenchus aff. devonensis in GenBank. These Rotylenchus aff. devonensis isolates might be representatives of R. pini populations. Polyphasic taxonomy has a potential to adequately infer clarity on morphological and molecular relationships within this genus. The current and previous phylogenetic studies supported by the recorded morphological plasticity within populations of the genus validate the proposed synonymy of Pararotylenchus with Rotylenchus. This is the first molecular characterization of R. pini. Additional molecular studies of the member species of the genus especially those with bulb-shaped pharyngeal glands are needed to aid reconstruction of phylogenetic patterns within the group. This will supplement the current generic compendia. | Mwamula, Abraham Okki; Lee, Ho-wook; Kim, Yi Seul; Kim, Young Ho; Lee, Dong Woon | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Entomol, Sangju 37224, Gyeongsangbug D, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Res Inst Invertebrate Vector, Sangju 37224, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Ecol Sci, Sangju 37224, Gyeongbuk Do, South Korea | 56786549100; 57215656028; 57204608381; 58516491300; 7406669991 | whitegrub@knu.ac.kr; | EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF PLANT PATHOLOGY | EUR J PLANT PATHOL | 0929-1873 | 1573-8469 | 169 | 1 | SCIE | AGRONOMY;HORTICULTURE;PLANT SCIENCES | 2024 | 1.9 | 36.8 | 0.58 | 2025-05-07 | 2 | 1 | DNA barcodes; Morphology; Pararotylenchus; Phylogeny | N. | ○ | ○ | Article | Prevalence of Wolbachia endosymbiont in Culex molestus mosquitoes from South Korea | Wolbachia, an endosymbiotic bacterium, has a significant impact on the reproductive biology and pathogen transmission capabilities of various arthropods, including mosquitoes. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of Wolbachia in Culex molestus, a vector mosquito species, in South Korea. Mosquito samples were collected from different locations and taxonomically identified. Individual mosquito DNA was extracted, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was conducted targeting the Wolbachia surface protein gene (wsp) and three multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) (gatB, hcpA, and ftsZ) genes. Gel electrophoresis was performed to determine the prevalence of Wolbachia by analyzing PCR products. Our findings revealed that Wolbachia was present in 100% of the tested Culex mosquitoes from South Korea, with one major Wolbachia strain (supergroup B) detected using the wsp gene and subgrouping determined with the gatB as well as hcpA, and ftsZ. These results underscore the widespread occurrence of Wolbachia in Cx. molestus mosquito within the studied region, thus suggesting the potential for leveraging this endosymbiont to devise novel strategies for mosquito-borne disease control. Future research should investigate the influence of Wolbachia on mosquito biology and vector competence in South Korea. | Akintola, Ashraf Akintayo; Kim, Gyeongmin; Adeniyi, Kamoru Abdulazeez; Hwang, Ui Wook | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Biomed Convergence Sci & Technol, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Teachers Coll, Dept Biol Educ, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Inst Phylogenom & Evolut, Daegu, South Korea; Fed Univ, Dept Biol Sci, Dutse, Nigeria; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Inst Korean Herb Bio Convergence Promot, Daegu, South Korea; Phylomics Inc, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Biomed Convergence Sci & Technol, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Akintola, Ashraf/KZU-7081-2024 | 57218618629; 57211378109; 34771171000; 35074015800 | uwhwang1@gmail.com; | ENTOMOLOGICAL RESEARCH | ENTOMOL RES | 1738-2297 | 1748-5967 | 54 | 1 | SCIE | ENTOMOLOGY | 2024 | 1.6 | 36.8 | 2.16 | 2025-04-16 | 2 | 2 | mosquito; South Korea; Vector; Wolbachia | PIPIENS COMPLEX; HUMAN-DISEASE; POPULATIONS; INFECTION; DENGUE; TOOL; IDENTIFICATION; PHYLOGENY; STRAINS; DIPTERA | mosquito; South Korea; Vector; Wolbachia | English | 2024 | 2024-01 | 10.1111/1748-5967.12696 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Review | Ultraviolet-B radiation in relation to agriculture in the context of climate change: a review | Over the past few decades, the amount of ultraviolet-B radiation (UV-B) reaching the earth's surface has been altered due to climate change and stratospheric ozone dynamics. This narrow but highly biologically active spectrum of light (280-320 nm) can affect plant growth and development. Depletion of ozone and climate change are interlinked in a very complicated manner, i.e., significantly contributing to each other. The interaction of climate change, ozone depletion, and changes in UV-B radiation negatively affects the growth, development, and yield of plants. Furthermore, this interaction will become more complex in the coming years. The ozone layer reduction is paving a path for UV-B radiation to impact the surface of the earth and interfere with the plant's normal life by negatively affecting the plant's morphology and physiology. The nature and degree of the future response of the agricultural ecosystem to the decreasing or increasing UV-B radiation in the background of climate change and ozone dynamics are still unclear. In this regard, this review aims to elucidate the effects of enhanced UV-B radiation reaching the earth's surface due to the depletion of the ozone layer on plants' physiology and the performance of major cereals. | Liaqat, Waqas; Altaf, Muhammad Tanveer; Barutcular, Celaleddin; Nawaz, Hira; Ullah, Izhar; Basit, Abdul; Mohamed, Heba. | ○ | ○ | Article | Development of methodology for calculating flooded area and flood volume in small urban areas based on unmanned aerial vehicle images | Climate change has intensified flooding and increased localized torrential rainfalls, leading to disasters such as landslides, infrastructure collapse, and urban floods. The extent and accuracy of flood damage information significantly impact recovery processes. While previous studies primarily utilized satellite and aerial imagery for broad flood assessments, they often lacked the precision needed for accurate damage analysis. This study addresses the gap between rapid assessment needs and precise damage quantification in flood inundation analysis. This research introduces a novel image-based investigation approach to enhance the speed and accuracy of flood inundation assessment. By leveraging unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and image-based spatial data technology, aerial images of flooded areas are rapidly captured to construct three-dimensional disaster site terrain information. The proposed methodology employs advanced techniques in aerial photography, image processing, and geographic analysis to quantitatively analyze flood inundation scale using only aerial images and geographic information systems (GIS). The research yielded a calculated flood inundation area of 3,847.36 m2 and a flood volume of 13,895.13 m3. This methodology complements existing flood inundation assessment techniques and has the potential to significantly improve disaster management efforts by providing rapid, accurate, and actionable data for decision-makers. | Woo, Hyun-Jung; Seo, Dong-Min; Kim, Min-Seok; Lee, Hye-Kyoung | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Convergence Inst Construct Environm & Energy Engn, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Architecture Civil Environm & Energy Engn, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Architecture Inst A3, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 57219244497; 57222555933; 59073001500; 57209320452 | lhk@knu.ac.kr; | FRONTIERS IN BUILT ENVIRONMENT | FRONT BUILT ENVIRON | 2297-3362 | 10 | ESCI | CONSTRUCTION & BUILDING TECHNOLOGY;ENGINEERING, CIVIL | 2024 | 2.7 | 36.9 | 0.47 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | 1 | flood inundation data; flood inundation assessment; unmanned aerial vehicle; aerial photography; spatial information | GIS | aerial photography; flood inundation assessment; flood inundation data; spatial information; unmanned aerial vehicle | English | 2024 | 2024-11-06 | 10.3389/fbuil.2024.1482330 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | SCAPS-1D Simulation for Device Optimization to Improve Efficiency in Lead-Free CsSnI3 Perovskite Solar Cells | In this study, a novel systematic analysis was conducted to explore the impact of various parameters, including acceptor density (N-A), individual layer thickness, defect density, interface defect density, and the metal electrode work function, on efficiency within the FTO/ZnO/CsSnI3/NiOx/Au perovskite solar cell structure through the SCAPS-1D (Solar Cell Capacitance Simulator in 1 Dimension) simulation. ZnO served as the electron transport layer (ETL), CsSnI3 as the perovskite absorption layer (PAL), and NiOx as the hole transport layer (HTL), all contributing to the optimization of device performance. To achieve the optimal power conversion efficiency (PCE), we determined the ideal PAL acceptor density (N-A) to be 2 x 10(19) cm(-3) and the optimal thicknesses to be 20 nm for the ETL (ZnO), 700 nm for the PAL (CsSnI3), and 10 nm for the HTL (NiOx), with the metal electrode remaining as Au. As a result of the optimization process, efficiency increased from 11.89% to 23.84%. These results are expected to contribute to the performance enhancement of eco-friendly, lead-free inorganic hybrid solar cells with Sn-based perovskite as the PAL. | Park, Hyun-Jae; Son, Hyojung; Jeong, Byoung-Seong | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Hydrogen & Renewable Energy, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, KNU Adv Mat Res Inst, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 59002014000; 57902836700; 35895071700 | gatorever@knu.ac.kr; | INORGANICS | INORGANICS | 2304-6740 | 12 | 4 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, INORGANIC & NUCLEAR | 2024 | 3 | 36.9 | 7.47 | 2025-05-07 | 20 | 25 | perovskite; photovoltaic solar cell; Pb-free; CsSnI3; SCAPS | CHARGE-TRANSPORT; DEFECT DENSITY; PERFORMANCE; THICKNESS; CONDUCTIVITY; TEMPERATURE; ABSORBER; OXIDE; ZNO | CsSnI3; Pb-free; perovskite; photovoltaic solar cell; SCAPS | English | 2024 | 2024-04 | 10.3390/inorganics12040123 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Blockade of Piezo2 Pathway Attenuates Inflammatory and Neuropathic Pain in the Orofacial Area | Although previous studies suggest that Piezo2 regulates chronic pain in the orofacial area, few studies have reported the direct evidence of Piezo2's involvement in inflammatory and neuropathic pain in the orofacial region. In this study, we used male Sprague Dawley rats to investigate the role of the Piezo2 pathway in the development of inflammatory and neuropathic pain. The present study used interleukin (IL)-1 beta-induced pronociception as an inflammatory pain model. Subcutaneous injection of IL-1 beta produced significant mechanical allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia. Subcutaneous injection of a Piezo2 inhibitor significantly blocked mechanical allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia induced by subcutaneously injected IL-1 beta. Furthermore, the present study also used a neuropathic pain model caused by the misplacement of a dental implant, leading to notable mechanical allodynia as a consequence of inferior alveolar nerve injury. Western blot analysis revealed increased levels of Piezo2 in the trigeminal ganglion and the trigeminal subnucleus caudalis after inferior alveolar nerve injury. Furthermore, subcutaneous and intracisternal injections of a Piezo2 inhibitor blocked neuropathic mechanical allodynia. These results suggest that the Piezo2 pathway plays a critical role in the development of inflammatory and neuropathic pain in the orofacial area. Therefore, blocking the Piezo2 pathway could be the foundation for developing new therapeutic strategies to treat orofacial pain conditions. | Jo, Min-Jeong; Son, Jo-Young; Kim, Yu-Mi; Ju, Jin-Sook; Park, Min-Kyoung; Lee, Min-Kyung; Ahn, Dong-Kuk | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Dent, Dept Oral Physiol, Daegu, South Korea; Konyang Woon Univ, Dept Dent Hyg, Gumi, South Korea; Dong Eui Univ, Dept Dent Hyg, Busan, South Korea | 57223119334; 57201998311; 57816812300; 7202751199; 36185933400; 57157512400; 58950718500 | dmvvv3@naver.com;n-violetjy@nate.com;boboatom@naver.com;jsju@knu.ac.kr;bukimin@hanmail.net;lmk849@deu.ac.kr;dkahn@knu.ac.kr; | PAIN RESEARCH & MANAGEMENT | PAIN RES MANAG | 1203-6765 | 1918-1523 | 2024 | SCIE | CLINICAL NEUROLOGY | 2024 | 3 | 37.0 | 0.65 | 2025-05-07 | 2 | 2 | acute pain; antinociception; interleukin-1 beta; neuropathic pain; Piezo2 | MECHANOSENSITIVE ION-CHANNEL; MECHANICAL ALLODYNIA; ALTERED SENSATION; SENSORY NEURONS; COMPRESSION; NOCICEPTION; ACTIVATION; NERVE | acute pain; antinociception; interleukin-1β; neuropathic pain; Piezo2 | Animals; Disease Models, Animal; Facial Pain; Hyperalgesia; Inflammation; Interleukin-1beta; Ion Channels; Male; Neuralgia; Rats; Rats, Sprague-Dawley; Signal Transduction; Trigeminal Ganglion; interleukin 1beta; ion channel; piezo channel; unclassified drug; interleukin 1beta; ion channel; piezo2 protein, rat; animal experiment; animal model; animal tissue; Article; avoidance behavior; behavior assessment; caudal trigeminal nucleus; comparative study; controlled study; inferior alveolar nerve; infrared radiation; male; neuropathic pain; nonhuman; pathway analysis; protein expression; rat; Sprague Dawley rat; subcutaneous tissue; trigeminus ganglion; Western blotting; animal; disease model; drug effect; drug therapy; etiology; face pain; hyperalgesia; inflammation; metabolism; neuralgia; physiology; signal transduction; Sprague Dawley rat; trigeminus ganglion | English | 2024 | 2024-09-27 | 10.1155/2024/9179928 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Enhancing Sr-deficient Sr(Ti0.3Fe0.7)O3-δ Cathode Performance through Sm0.5Sr0.5CoO3-δ Infiltration | The development of cathodes with improved polarization, aimed at reducing the operating temperature of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), is an important avenue of research toward more efficient SOFCs. Sr(Ti0.3Fe0.7)O3-delta recently emerged as an active and stable cathode material; although its oxygen transport capability was shown to be further improved by introducing a Sr deficiency, the accompanying increased sinterability creates challenges in optimizing cathode microstructure. One facile approach may be single-step infiltration with highly active materials, such as Sr0.5Sm0.5Sr0.5CoO3-delta(SSC). However, there is limited knowledge regarding the impact of SSC on the electrochemical mechanisms within Sr-deficient Sr(Ti0.3Fe0.7)O3-delta. In this study, we systematically investigate the electrochemical characteristics of SSC-infiltrated Sr-0.95(Ti0.3Fe0.7)O3-delta (STF) cathodes. Transmission line model-based impedance analysis provides a mechanistic understanding of STF and the role of SSC infiltrants in polarization improvement. The results reveal that SSC effectively reduces the resistance associated with key electrode processes, including oxygen diffusion, surface exchange, and dissociative adsorption/desorption. Consequently, using SSC infiltration, the power density of a Ni-Zr0.84Y0.16O2-delta (YSZ) anode-supported full cell with thin (similar to 2.5 mu m) electrolyte increased from similar to 1.88 to similar to 2.47 W cm(-2) at 800 degrees C. | ○ | Article | Convergence Analysis and Predictions for Optimizing Reciprocal Grids: A First-Principles and Machine Learning Study | When crystalline materials are investigated by performing first-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the reciprocal grid should be fine enough to obtain the converged total energy and electronic structure. Herein, we performed a convergence test of the total energy for the density of reciprocal points to determine fine enough reciprocal grids for high-throughput calculations. Our results show that the nonlinearity of the band structures affects the convergence of the total energy, especially for materials with a finite band gap. We further investigate which physical properties make a finer reciprocal grid necessary based on machine learning (ML) analysis. Our developed models using DFT-based features and elemental properties-based features exhibit R 2 of 0.803 and 0.880, respectively. Our ML model quantitatively shows the importance of nonlinearity and band gaps in predicting errors in total energy calculations. Furthermore, our ML model using elemental features can be applied to estimate the appropriate reciprocal grid, facilitating high-throughput calculations. | Byun, Jinyoung; Lee, Donggeon; Hwang, Euyheon; Kim, Sooran; Park, Ji-Sang | Sungkyunkwan Univ, Dept Nano Engn, Suwon 16419, South Korea; Sungkyunkwan Univ, SKKU Adv Inst Nanotechnol St, Suwon 16419, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Phys, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, KNU Inst Basic Sci, Dept Phys Educ, KNU G LAMP Project Grp, Daegu 41566, South Korea | ; Park, Ji-Sang/F-9944-2010 | sooran@knu.ac.kr;jisangpark@skku.edu; | JOURNAL OF PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY A | J PHYS CHEM A | 1089-5639 | 1520-5215 | 129 | 1 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, PHYSICAL;PHYSICS, ATOMIC, MOLECULAR & CHEMICAL | 2024 | 2.8 | 37.2 | 0 | TOTAL-ENERGY CALCULATIONS; WAVE; APPROXIMATION | English | 2024 | 2024-12-17 | 10.1021/acs.jpca.4c05782 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Outcome of Multiple Myeloma Patients With Hepatitis B Surface Antigen: Korean Multiple Myeloma Working Party 2103 Study | In this nationwide, retrospective analysis, the incidence of hepatitis B virus reactivation (HBVr) was significantly decreased by using antiviral prophylaxis. The overall survival was not different between patients with or without HBVr. Background: Hepatitis B virus reactivation (HBVr) is a well-known complication of systemic chemotherapy for particularly hematologic malignancies in HBV carriers. We performed a multicenter retrospective study to investigate the incidence and risk factors of HBVr in patients with hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-positive multiple myeloma (MM). Methods: We included 123 patients with HBsAg-positive MM who had received systemic therapy. The primary objective of the study was to evaluate the incidence of HBVr in patients with HBsAg-positive MM. Results: The median age was 59 years, and 72 patients were male. With a median follow-up duration of 41.4 months, there were 43 instances of HBVr in 35 patients (28.5%): 29 treatment -related HBVr occurred during 424 treatments. Treatments containing antiviral prophylaxis were associated with a significantly lower incidence of HBVr compared to those without (14.4% vs. 1.9%, P < 0.001). Moreover, treatment with cyclophosphamide ( P = 0.002) and doxorubicin ( P = 0.053) were risk factors for HBVr; stem cell transplantation was not associated with HBVr. There was no significant difference in overall survival between patients with and without HBVr ( P = 0.753) and myeloma progression was the major cause of death. Conclusion: Considering the low incidence of HBVr in patients who had received antiviral prophylaxis, HBsAg-positivity should not impede patients from receiving optimal antimyeloma treatment or participating in clinical trials. | Yi, Jun Ho; Lee, Jung Lim; Lee, Yoo Jin; Kang, Hye Jin; Park, Young Hoon; Yuh, Young Jin; Lim, Sung-Nam; Kim, Hyo Jung; Jung, Sung-Hoon; Lee, Je-Jung; Cho, Hee Jeong; Moon, Joon Ho; Yhim, Ho-Young; Kim, Kihyun | Chung Ang Univ, Dept Med, Div Hematol Oncol, Seoul, South Korea; Dept Hematooncol, Daegu Fatima, Daegu, South Korea; Ulsan Univ Hosp, Univ Ulsan, Coll Med, Dept Hematol & Oncol, Ulsan, South Korea; Korea Canc Ctr Hosp, Korea Inst Radiol & Med Sci, Dept Internal Med, Div Hematol Oncol, Seoul, South Korea; Ewha Womans Univ, Coll Med, Dept Internal Med, Div Hematol Oncol, Seoul, South Korea; Inje Univ, Sanggye Paik Hosp, Dept Internal Med, Seoul, South Korea; Inje Univ, Haeundae Paik Hosp, Coll Med, Dept Internal Med, Busan, South Korea; Hallym Univ, Dept Internal Med, Sacred Heart Hosp, Anyang, South Korea; Chonnam Natl Univ, Dept Hematol Oncol, Hwasun Hosp, Hwasun Gun, Jeollanam Do, South Korea; Chonnam Natl Univ, Med Sch, Hwasun Gun, Jeollanam Do, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Hematol Oncol, Daegu, South Korea; Jeonbuk Natl Univ, Med Sch, Dept Internal Med, Jeonju, South Korea; Sungkyunkwan Univ, Samsung Med Ctr, Sch Med, Dept Med,Div Hematol Oncol, Seoul, South Korea; Sungkyunkwan Univ, Samsung Med Ctr, Dept Med, Div Hematol Oncol,Sch Med, 50 Irwon dong, Seoul 06351, South Korea | Kim, Kihyun/D-5175-2013; Lee, Jeong-Hoon/Q-1055-2018; Yi, Jun Ho/GXZ-8144-2022; Lee, Jong-Seok/J-5603-2012 | 24339940900; 16203096000; 57188669696; 23497013500; 57212764446; 7003838456; 24831618100; 7410139194; 55511978300; 7601478211; 57216754907; 56568642700; 35785270600; 57199440300 | kihyunkimk@gmail.com; | CLINICAL LYMPHOMA MYELOMA & LEUKEMIA | CL LYMPH MYELOM LEUK | 2152-2650 | 2152-2669 | 24 | 2 | SCIE | HEMATOLOGY;ONCOLOGY | 2024 | 2.7 | 37.2 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | 0 | Hepatitis B virus; Immune suppression; Multiple myeloma; Prophylaxis; Reactivation | STEM-CELL TRANSPLANTATION; VIRUS REACTIVATION; CANCER-PATIENTS; HBV REACTIVATION; BREAST-CANCER; PREVENTION; INFECTION; CHEMOTHERAPY; MALIGNANCIES; ASSOCIATION | Hepatitis B virus; Immune suppression; Multiple myeloma; Prophylaxis; Reactivation | Antiviral Agents; Female; Hepatitis B; Hepatitis B Surface Antigens; Hepatitis B virus; Humans; Male; Middle Aged; Multiple Myeloma; Republic of Korea; Retrospective Studies; Virus Activation; adefovir; bendamustine; bortezomib; carfilzomib; cisplatin; cyclophosphamide; daratumumab; dexamethasone; doxorubicin; entecavir; etoposide; hepatitis B surface antigen; isatuximab; ixazomib; lamivudine; lenalidomide; melphalan; pomalidomide; telbivudine; tenofovir; thalidomide; vincristine; antivirus agent; hepatitis B surface antigen; adult; aged; Article; cancer growth; cancer patient; cause of death; clinical outcome; controlled study; female; follow up; hepatitis B; Hepatitis B virus; human; incidence; major clinical study; male; multiple myeloma; overall survival; prophylaxis; retrospective study; risk factor; systemic therapy; virus reactivation; clinical trial; complication; epidemiology; hepatitis B; middle aged; multicenter study; South Korea; virus activation | English | 2024 | 2024-02 | 10.1016/j.clml.2023.10.004 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Review | Pentagonal Symmetry in Aperiodic Cyclic Multiply Twinned Nano- and Mesodiamonds | This Review provides the first comprehensive overview of the structure and properties of exotic sp(3)-crystalline aperiodic cyclic multiply twinned nano- (10-100 nm) and meso- (up to 1 mm) diamond particles (MTPs) exhibiting pentagonal symmetry. It spans their independent experimental discoveries (1963, 1964, 1972, and 1983) and theoretical structural insights (1993) to recent advancements. The Review focuses on high-symmetry MTPs formed by the fusion of multiple cubic diamond fragments through [111] facets. The sp(3) diamond lattice of individual fragments offers a vast range of MTP varieties. These particles are shown to be a special case of aperiodic crystalline solids with limited dimensions and rotational symmetry, leading to a breakdown of translational invariance. Detailed mathematical analysis of the MTPs' lattices highlights the crucial role of central cores in determining the symmetry and effective dimensions of these structures. Both structural and kinetic aspects of the formation mechanisms of pentagonal diamond particles are considered, revealing the main role of embryo seeds (low fullerenes, polyhexacyclo[5.5.1.1(2,6).1(8,12).0(3,11).0(5,9)]pentadecane (C-15), and polyheptacyclo[5.5.1.1(2,7).1(9,14).0(3,13).0(6,11)]octadecane (C-18)) in determining the MTPs' symmetry and structure. The effective dimensions of multiply twinned diamonds are shown to be limited by structural stress caused by the mismatch of perfect pentagonal and tetrahedral dihedral angles. The extraordinary mechanical and electronic properties of multiply twinned diamonds are discussed, highlighting that hexagonal interfaces between cubic diamond fragments may determine exceptional ultrahard and quantum characteristics. The MTP X-ray diffraction spectra reveal clear pentagonal patterns with single (diamond decahedrons or dodecahedrons) or ten (diamond icosahedra) central 5-fold axes. A comparative analysis of experimental structural data and simulations at different theoretical levels demonstrates a perfect correspondence of theoretical models with crystalline lattices. | Melchakova, Iu. | ○ | ○ | Article | UMRSF-TDDFT: Unrestricted Mixed-Reference Spin-Flip-TDDFT | An unrestricted version of Mixed-Reference Spin-Flip Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory (UMRSF-TDDFT) was developed based on unrestricted Kohn-Sham orbitals (UKS) with a new molecular orbital (MO) reordering scheme. Additionally, a simple yet accurate method for estimating expectation values was devised. UMRSF-TDDFT was benchmarked against cases where DFT, TDDFT, and SF-TDDFT traditionally fail to provide accurate descriptions. In an application to the ground and excited states of a Be atom, UMRSF-TDDFT successfully recovers the degenerate states, with its energies slightly reduced compared to its RO counterpart, due to the additional variational flexibility of UKS. A clear difference between UMRSF and U-SF-TDDFT is evident in the bond breaking of the hydrogen fluoride system, as the latter misses an important configuration. In the case of the Jahn-Teller distortion of trimethylenemethane (TMM), the relative singlet energy compared to the triplet is lower by 0.1 and 0.2 eV for UMRSF and U-SF-TDDFT, respectively, than that of MRSF-TDDFT. The reduction in UMRSF energy is attributed to spatial orbital relaxations, whereas the reduction in U-SF-TDDFT energy results from spin contamination. Overall, the additional orbital relaxations afforded by unrestricted Kohn-Sham (UKS) orbitals in UMRSF-TDDFT lead to lower total system energies compared to their restricted open-shell counterparts. This enhancement adds a practical and accurate quantum chemical theory to the existing RO variant for addressing challenging systems where traditional quantum theories suffer. | Komarov, Konstantin; Oh, Minseok; Nakata, Hiroya; Lee, Seunghoon; Choi, Cheol Ho | Pohang Univ Sci & Technol, Ctr Quantum Dynam, Pohang 37673, South Korea; Seoul Natl Univ, Dept Chem, Seoul 151747, South Korea; Kyoto Univ, Fukui Inst Fundamental Chem, Kyoto 6068103, Japan; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Chem, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Lee, Seunghoon/AAB-4846-2021; Komarov, Konstantin/P-6466-2017 | 57193073953; 59302315400; 55305767500; 57194591254; 7402958948 | seunghoonlee@snu.ac.kr;cchoi@knu.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY A | J PHYS CHEM A | 1089-5639 | 1520-5215 | 128 | 43 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, PHYSICAL;PHYSICS, ATOMIC, MOLECULAR & CHEMICAL | 2024 | 2.8 | 37.2 | 1.78 | 2025-05-07 | 4 | 4 | DENSITY-FUNCTIONAL THEORY; SELF-CONSISTENT-FIELD; NONADIABATIC COUPLING TERMS; POTENTIAL-ENERGY SURFACES; MR-CI LEVEL; DOUBLE EXCITATIONS; CONICAL INTERSECTIONS; ANALYTIC EVALUATION; EXCITED-STATES; BOND-BREAKING | Hydrogen bonds; Jahn-Teller effect; Reduction; Spin dynamics; Sulfur hexafluoride; Uranium compounds; hydrofluoric acid; % reductions; Energy; Expectation values; Kohn-Sham orbitals; Orbital relaxation; Orbitals; Simple++; Spin flip; Spin flip time; Time dependent density functional theory; article; controlled study; density functional theory; quantum theory; Molecular orbitals | English | 2024 | 2024-10-17 | 10.1021/acs.jpca.4c04521 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Composite pin-fin heat sink for effective hotspot reduction | This current work aims to decrease temperature nonuniformity in a microprocessor. The proposed composite pin-fin heat sink design is analyzed computationally, and its functioning is compared with the conventional heat sink design. According to the heat rate, the composite heat sink is divided into two sections: the hotspot and the background section. Aluminum, copper, and graphene are chosen for the background and hotspot sections. Both noncomposite and composite heat sinks are designed with similar geometrical dimensions. DI water is used as the working fluid. They are studied for heterogeneous hotspot heat flux varying from 200 to 600 kW/m2 by keeping constant background heat flux as 100 kW/m2 with the inlet mass flow rate of 0.05 kg/s. Further simulations are performed for various Reynolds numbers (Re = 150, 225, 300) with a constant background and hotspot heat flux of 100 and 600 kW/m2, respectively, for different inlet temperatures of 15 degrees C, 20 degrees C, and 25 degrees C. The simulations are also carried out for other working fluids, such as TiO2 and Fe2O3 based nanofluids with the constant volume concentration of 0.65% and 3%, respectively in the DI water, at the constant background and hotspot heat flux of 100 and 600 kW/m2, respectively. The results are shown for all the above studies planned. The results suggest that composite heat sinks with graphene as a composite material and Fe2O3 based nanofluid yields higher heat dissipation. | Khan, Musthfa Ali; Ali, Hafiz Muhammad; Rehman, Tauseef-ur; Arsalanloo, Akbar; Niyas, Hakeem | Ctr Rajiv Gandhi Inst Petr Technol, Energy Inst Bengaluru, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India; King Fahd Univ Petr & Minerals, Mech Engn Dept, Dhahran 31261, Saudi Arabia; King Fahd Univ Petr & Minerals, Interdisciplinary Res Ctr Sustainable Energy Syst, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Mech Engn, Daegu, South Korea; Ton Duc Thang Univ, Fac Environm & Lab Safety, Sustainable Management Nat Resources & Environm Re, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam | Niyas, Hakeem/F-2784-2017; Rehman, Tauseef-ur/AAE-3086-2022; Ali, HM/AAH-3473-2021 | 58860070900; 55749198400; 57159403400; 57195149965; 57112590600 | hafiz.ali@kfupm.edu.sa;hakeemnus@rgipt.ac.in; | HEAT TRANSFER | HEAT TRANSF | 2688-4534 | 2688-4542 | 53 | 4 | ESCI | THERMODYNAMICS | 2024 | 2.6 | 37.3 | 6.31 | 2025-05-07 | 16 | 17 | composite pin-fin heat sink; DI water; hotspot mitigation; nanofluids | THERMAL MANAGEMENT; FLUID-FLOW; IN-LINE; PERFORMANCE; ARRAYS; ELECTRONICS; DESIGN; CONDUCTIVITY; OPTIMIZATION; VISCOSITY | composite pin-fin heat sink; DI water; hotspot mitigation; nanofluids | Fins (heat exchange); Fluids; Graphene; Heat flux; Hematite; Nanofluidics; Reynolds number; Composite heat sinks; Composite pin-fin heat sink; DI water; Heat sink design; Hotspot mitigation; Hotspot reductions; Hotspots; Nanofluids; Pin fin heat sinks; Working fluid; Titanium dioxide | English | 2024 | 2024-06 | 10.1002/htj.23016 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |

| ○ | ○ | Article | Enhancing Tractor Stability and Safety through Individual Actuators in Active Suspension | Tractor overturning accidents are a prominent safety concern in the field of agriculture. Many studies have been conducted to prevent tractor overturning accidents. Rollover protective structures and seat belts currently installed on tractors cannot prevent them from overturning. The posture of a tractor was controlled by installing individual actuators. The overturning angles of the tractor equipped with an actuator were compared with those of a tractor with no actuator. For the overturning angles in all directions of the tractor, it rotated 15 degrees from 0 degrees to 345 degrees, and the actuator height suitable for the tractor posture was controlled by establishing an equation according to the tractor posture. Consequently, posture control using actuators was noticeably improved. This study proposes that tractors operating on irregular and sloping terrain be equipped with individual actuators. These results prevent tractor rollover accidents and improve safety and driving stability. | Son, Jinho; Kim, Yeongsu; Kang, Seokho; Ha, Yushin | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Agr & Life Sci, Dept Bioind Machinery Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Upland Field Machinery Res Ctr, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 57879932100; 57210594021; 57221791368; 57192072314 | thsghqkd@knu.ac.kr;mvio9256@naver.com;deshshk@knu.ac.kr;yushin72@knu.ac.kr; | INVENTIONS | INVENTIONS-BASEL | 2411-5134 | 9 | 2 | ESCI | ENGINEERING, MULTIDISCIPLINARY | 2024 | 1.9 | 37.4 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 1 | 1 | rollover; simulation; tractor | PROTECTIVE STRUCTURE; ROLLOVER | rollover; simulation; tractor | English | 2024 | 2024-04 | 10.3390/inventions9020029 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 |
