| ○ | ○ | Review | Matrix metalloproteinases as therapeutic targets in breast cancer | Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are the most prominent proteinases involved in tumorigenesis. They were initially recognized to promote tumor progression by remodeling the extracellular matrix through their proteolytic activity. However, accumulating evidence has revealed that some MMPs have protective roles in cancer progression, and the same MMP can exert opposing roles depending on the cell type in which it is expressed or the stage of cancer. Moreover, studies have shown that MMPs are involved in cancer progression through their roles in other biological processes such as cell signaling and immune regulation, independent of their catalytic activity. Despite the prognostic significance of tumoral or stromal expression of MMPs in breast cancer, their roles and molecular mechanisms in breast cancer progression remain unclear. As the failures of early clinical trials with broad-spectrum MMP inhibitors were mainly due to a lack of drug specificity, substantial efforts have been made to develop highly selective MMP inhibitors. Some recently developed MMP inhibitory monoclonal antibodies demonstrated promising anti-tumor effects in preclinical models of breast cancer. Importantly, anti-tumor effects of these antibodies were associated with the modulation of tumor immune microenvironment, suggesting that the use of MMP inhibitors in combination with immunotherapy can improve the efficacy of immunotherapy in HER2-positive or triple-negative breast cancer. In this review, the current understanding of the roles of tumoral or stromal MMPs in breast cancer is summarized, and recent advances in the development of highly selective MMP inhibitors are discussed. | Kwon, Mi Jeong | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Pharm, Vessel Organ Interact Res Ctr MRC, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Pharm, BK21 FOUR Community Based Intelligent Novel Drug D, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Res Inst Pharmaceut Sci, Daegu, South Korea | 35278164800 | mjkwon94@knu.ac.kr; | FRONTIERS IN ONCOLOGY | FRONT ONCOL | 2234-943X | 12 | SCIE | ONCOLOGY | 2023 | 3.5 | 33.1 | 3.1 | 2025-06-25 | 40 | 46 | matrix metalloproteinase (MMP); breast cancer; therapeutic target; tumor microenvironment; MMP inhibitor; immune regulation; immunotherapy | TISSUE INHIBITOR; TUMOR-GROWTH; BRAIN METASTASIS; PROGNOSTIC-SIGNIFICANCE; DISTANT METASTASIS; ADVERSE PROGNOSIS; PROTECTIVE ROLES; TRANSGENIC MICE; GENE-EXPRESSION; DOWN-REGULATION | breast cancer; immune regulation; immunotherapy; matrix metalloproteinase (MMP); MMP inhibitor; therapeutic target; tumor microenvironment | epidermal growth factor receptor 2; estrogen receptor; matrix metalloproteinase; matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor; tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase; breast cancer; cancer prognosis; carcinogenesis; enzyme linked immunosorbent assay; gene expression; human; immunoregulation; immunotherapy; inflammatory cell; molecularly targeted therapy; mononuclear inflammatory cell; nonhuman; overall survival; prognostic assessment; protein expression; real time polymerase chain reaction; Review; stromal protein expression; tumor microenvironment; tumoral protein expression | English | 2023 | 2023-01-19 | 10.3389/fonc.2022.1108695 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Open-labeled, multicenter phase II study of prophylactic administration of pegylated granulocyte colony-stimulating factor in relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma who received pomalidomide-based regimens (KMM170) | IntroductionPegylated granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) has been widely used for preventing febrile neutropenia in various types of cancer treatment. In the present study, we prospectively evaluated the safety and efficacy of pegfilgrastim as a primary prophylaxis of febrile neutropenia and infection among patients with relapsed refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) treated with pomalidomide-based regimens.MethodsThirty-three patients with RRMM who received pomalidomide and dexamethasone (Pd) with or without cyclophosphamide (PCd) were enrolled in this study. Twenty-eight patients were treated with PCd and 5 patients were treated with Pd. All patients were given pegfilgrastim subcutaneously with a single administration performed on the first day of each cycle as primary prophylaxis until the fourth cycle.ResultsThe median age of the patients was 75 (range 56-85), and the median prior line of therapy was 2 (range 2-6). Seventeen patients (51.5%) had any grade of neutropenia and 20 (60.6%) had any grade of thrombocytopenia before starting pomalidomide treatment. During the 4 cycles of treatment, grade 3 or more neutropenia occurred in 17 patients (51.5%), and 4 (12.1%) experienced grade 3 or more febrile neutropenia. Grade 3 or more infections occurred in 5 patients (15.2%). Interestingly, the patients with markedly increased ANC of more than 2 x 109/L compared to baseline ANC after 7 days of pegfilgrastim at 1st cycle of treatment showed a significantly lower incidence of grade 3-4 neutropenia. The most common adverse event of pegfilgrastim was fatigue, and all the adverse events caused by pegfilgrastim were grade 1 or 2. And there was no significant change in the immune cell population and cytokines during the administration of pegfilgrastim.DiscussionConsidering that this study included elderly patients with baseline neutropenia, pegylated G-CSF could be helpful to prevent severe neutropenia, febrile neutropenia, or infection in patients with RRMM. | Song, Ga-Young; Lee, Je-Jung; Moon, Joon Ho; Kim, Dajung; Kim, Min Kyoung; Kim, Hyo Jung; Mun, Yeung-Chul; Lee, Won-Sik; Do, Young Rok; Lee, Jae Hoon; Jung, Sung-Hoon; Kim, Jin Seok | Chonnam Natl Univ, Dept Hematol Oncol, Hwasun Hosp, Hwasun, Jeollanamdo, South Korea; Chonnam Natl Univ, Med Sch, Hwasun, Jeollanamdo, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Hematol Oncol, Daegu, South Korea; Kosin Univ, Dept Internal Med, Gospel Hosp, Busan, South Korea; Yeungnam Univ, Dept Hematol & Oncol, Med Ctr, Daegu, South Korea; Hallym Univ, Sacred Heart Hosp, Dept Internal Med, Anyang, South Korea; Ewha Womans Univ, Sch Med, Div Hematol Oncol, Seoul, South Korea; Inje Univ, Busan Paik Hosp, Busan, South Korea; Keimyung Univ, Keimyung Univ Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Internal Med, Daegu, South Korea; Gachon Univ, Gil Med Ctr, Dept Internal Med, Incheon, South Korea; Yonsei Univ, Coll Med, Div Hematol, Severance Hosp,Dept Internal Med, Seoul, South Korea | Lee, Jung-Hye/F-6974-2013; KIM, JIN/I-6927-2019 | 57193027251; 7601478211; 56568642700; 57195951981; 57206000629; 7410139194; 7003363716; 55556573100; 8960168300; 56013463700; 55511978300; 55032033600 | shglory@hanmail.net;HEMAKIM@yuhs.ac; | FRONTIERS IN ONCOLOGY | FRONT ONCOL | 2234-943X | 13 | SCIE | ONCOLOGY | 2023 | 3.5 | 33.1 | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 1 | 0 | pegfilgrastim; prophylaxis; febrile neutropenia; multiple myeloma; pomalidomide | DAILY FILGRASTIM; FEBRILE NEUTROPENIA; G-CSF; CHEMOTHERAPY; PEGFILGRASTIM; DEXAMETHASONE; CYCLOPHOSPHAMIDE; LENALIDOMIDE; CYCLE | febrile neutropenia; multiple myeloma; pegfilgrastim; pomalidomide; prophylaxis | acetylsalicylic acid; aciclovir; C reactive protein; cyclophosphamide; cytokine; dexamethasone; gamma interferon; granulocyte colony stimulating factor; hemoglobin; interleukin 12p70; levofloxacin; pegfilgrastim; pomalidomide; sulfamethoxazole; transforming growth factor beta; trimethoprim; absolute neutrophil count; adult; aged; Article; blood cell count; bone pain; clinical article; cystocolic fistula; cytogenetics; disease exacerbation; drug dose reduction; drug fever; drug withdrawal; electrophoresis; enzyme linked immunosorbent assay; fatigue; febrile neutropenia; female; fever; fluorescence in situ hybridization; human; male; multicenter study; multiple cycle treatment; multiple myeloma; myalgia; nausea; neutropenia; overall survival; peripheral blood mononuclear cell; phase 2 clinical trial; pneumonia; progression free survival; prophylaxis; protein urine level; risk factor; T lymphocyte; thrombocyte; thrombocytopenia; thrombosis prevention; tremor; urinary tract infection; very elderly; vomiting | English | 2023 | 2023-10-25 | 10.3389/fonc.2023.1209110 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | Article | Advisory firm paths to side-by-side management and mutual fund performance | We examine whether the performance of mutual funds under side-by-side (SBS) management with hedge funds is affected by an adviser's path to SBS management. When advisers start with mutual funds and follow the MFtoSBS path, their mutual funds tend to perform similarly to funds without SBS advisers. By contrast, when advisers start with hedge funds and follow the HFtoSBS path, their mutual funds outperform funds without SBS advisers, though outperformance is not observed when SBS management is conducted at the portfolio manager level. Additional analyses link our path results to managerial compensation, talent retention, and managerial experience. © 2023 Elsevier B.V. | Bae, Jongwan; Haight, Timothy; Kuang, Xin; Yin, Chengdong | Department of Finance, College of Economics and Business Administration, Kyungpook National University, South Korea; College of Business Administration, Loyola Marymount University, United States; Institute of Chinese finance studies, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, China; School of Finance, Renmin University of China, China | 57814058200; 57205588635; 58303637300; 57190214756 | chengdongyin@ruc.edu.cn; | Journal of Empirical Finance | J EMPIR FINANC | 0927-5398 | 1879-1727 | 73 | SSCI | BUSINESS, FINANCE;ECONOMICS | 2023 | 2.1 | 33.2 | 0.14 | 2025-06-25 | 1 | Compensation; Investment adviser; Mutual funds; Performance; Side-by-side management | English | Final | 2023 | 10.1016/j.jempfin.2023.05.002 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Exponential filtering technique for Euclidean norm-regularized extreme learning machines | Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) is a feedforward neural network that utilizes a single hidden layer to effectively tackle the learning speed challenges commonly associated with conventional gradient-based neural networks. ELM has been reported to achieve faster learning rates and better performance than traditional neural networks. However, it is susceptible to unreliable solutions when applied to real-world input data with inconsistent noise, resulting in overfitting. To mitigate these limitations, we investigate various regularization techniques that can be employed in conjunction with ELM, including Tikhonov regularization, a well-established method in the field. However, one of the main drawbacks of Tikhonov regularization is its assumption of the input data's noise to be white and Gaussian, which may not be the case in real-world applications. This assumption can lead to suboptimal regularization and poor generalization performance of the model. Therefore, we propose using an exponential filtering method in conjunction with ELM to overcome this limitation and improve the model's reliability. We compare our approach with Tikhonov regularization and other existing methods to evaluate its efficacy. Our experimental results demonstrate that our proposed strategy achieves superior accuracy and generalization capability compared to the other methods. Moreover, we provide statistical evidence to support the significance of our findings. | Naik, Shraddha M.; Subramani, Chinnamuthu; Jagannath, Ravi Prasad K.; Paul, Anand | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Comp Sci & Engn, Daegu, South Korea; Natl Inst Technol Goa, Dept Appl Sci, Veling, Goa, India | Subramani, Chinnamuthu/LTD-1131-2024; Jagannath, Ravi/K-2540-2012; Paul, Anand/V-6724-2017; Naik, Shraddha/AAX-9472-2020 | 57200942684; 59714445100; 37031229500; 56650522400 | shraddha.naik@gmail.com;chinnamuthu@nitgoa.ac.in;k.j.raviprasad@nitgoa.ac.in;paul.editor@gmail.com; | PATTERN ANALYSIS AND APPLICATIONS | PATTERN ANAL APPL | 1433-7541 | 1433-755X | 26 | 3 | SCIE | COMPUTER SCIENCE, ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE | 2023 | 3.7 | 33.2 | 0.21 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 2 | Extreme learning machine; Regularization parameter; Classification; Exponential filtering | REGRESSION | Classification; Exponential filtering; Extreme learning machine; Regularization parameter | English | 2023 | 2023-08 | 10.1007/s10044-023-01174-8 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||

| ○ | ○ | Article | Transceiver Design and Performance Analysis for LR-FHSS-Based Direct-to-Satellite IoT | This letter presents a novel transceiver design aimed at enabling Direct-to-Satellite Internet of Things (DtS-IoT) systems based on the long-range frequency-hopping spread spectrum (LR-FHSS). Our focus is on the development of an accurate framing scheme through an analysis of the frame structure and key parameters pertaining to a Long-Range Wide-Area-Network (LoRaWAN). To handle the Doppler effect in DtS-IoT networks and simultaneously enable the reception of numerous frequency hopping signals, a robust signal detector for the receiver is proposed. We verify the performance of the proposed LR-FHSS transceiver design through simulations conducted in a realistic satellite channel environment, assessing several metrics. | Jung, Sooyeob; Jeong, Seongah; Kang, Jinkyu; Ryu, Joon Gyu; Kang, Joonhyuk | Korea Adv Inst Sci & Technol KAIST, Sch Elect Engn, Daejeon 34141, South Korea; Elect & Telecommun Res Inst ETRI, Satellite Commun Infra Res Sect, Daejeon 34129, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Myongji Univ, Dept Informat & Commun Engn, Yongin 17058, Gyeonggi, South Korea; ETRI, Satellite Commun Infra Res Sect, Daejeon 34129, South Korea | ; Kang, Joonhyuk/C-1771-2011; Jung, Sooyeob/KYY-8848-2024 | 57189047890; 55210226900; 56283062100; 7401868766; 7404517651 | jung2816@kaist.ac.kr;seongah@knu.ac.kr;jkkang@mju.ac.kr;jgryurt@etri.re.kr;jhkang@ee.kaist.ac.kr; | IEEE COMMUNICATIONS LETTERS | IEEE COMMUN LETT | 1089-7798 | 1558-2558 | 27 | 12 | SCIE | TELECOMMUNICATIONS | 2023 | 3.7 | 33.2 | 0.79 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 6 | Direct-to-satellite Internet of Things (DtS-IoT); long-range frequency-hopping spread spectrum (LR-FHSS); transceiver design; signal detector; low-earth orbit (LEO) | Direct-to-satellite Internet of Things (DtS-IoT); long-range frequency-hopping spread spectrum (LR-FHSS); low-earth orbit (LEO); signal detector; transceiver design | Communication satellites; Convolution; Convolutional codes; Frequency hopping; Radio transceivers; Satellite communication systems; Signal detection; Signal encoding; Wide area networks; Direct-to-satellite internet of thing; Earth orbits; Encodings; Frequency hopping spread-spectrum; Frequency-hopping spread spectrum; Long-range frequency-hopping spread spectrum; Low earth orbit satellites; Low-earth orbit; Payload; Satellite internet; Signal detectors; Transceiver design; Internet of things | English | 2023 | 2023-12 | 10.1109/lcomm.2023.3325052 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | FoxO1 Controls Redox Regulation and Cellular Physiology of BV-2 Microglial Cells | Microglia are brain-resident macrophage-like cells that play critical roles in diverse pathophysiological conditions, including development, neurogenesis, tissue damage, and pathogenic infection. Identifying molecular switches that govern the fate and function of microglia would be valuable for maintaining brain homeostasis. Forkhead box protein O1 (FoxO1) is the first identified gene in the FoxO family and serves as a potent transcriptional regulator that participates in development, apoptosis, metabolism, and stress response. It has been recently reported that FoxO1 expression is downregulated in human microglia with age, but the role of FoxO1 has not been characterized so far. In the present study, we investigated the molecular function of FoxO1 in microglia by utilizing BV-2 cells. By generating FoxO1-deficient BV-2 microglia through Crispr/Cas9 system, we analyzed the influence of FoxO1 on redox status, metabolism, and polarization of microglia. Our data clearly showed that FoxO1 deficiency suppressed oxidative stress and cell death. In addition, FoxO1 level could modulate metabolic status and polarizing potential of BV-2 microglia. FoxO1 might be a critical element for the regulation of microglial cell physiology and the maintenance of the brain homeostasis. | Seong, Chaeeun; Kim, Hyeon Ji; Byun, Jin-Seok; Kim, Yoonjung; Kim, Do-Yeon | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Dent, Dept Pharmacol, Daegu 41940, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Dent, Dept Oral Med, Daegu 41940, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Internal Med,Div Infect Dis, Daegu 41940, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Brain Sci & Engn Inst, Sch Dent, Dept Pharmacol, Daegu 41940, South Korea | Kim, Do-Yeon/AET-3021-2022; Kim, Ji Hoon/AAB-4602-2022 | 57296292000; 57216816929; 55430621800; 57203160508; 57203012542 | jsbyun@knu.ac.kr;yuziha@nate.com;dykim82@knu.ac.kr; | INFLAMMATION | INFLAMMATION | 0360-3997 | 1573-2576 | 46 | 2 | SCIE | CELL BIOLOGY;IMMUNOLOGY | 2023 | 4.5 | 33.4 | 0.58 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 4 | Microglia; ROS; Mitochondria; Polarization; FoxO1 | TRANSCRIPTION; MACROPHAGES; INHIBITION; ACTIVATION; PATHWAY; SYSTEM | FoxO1; Microglia; Mitochondria; Polarization; ROS | Antioxidants; Brain; Forkhead Box Protein O1; Humans; Microglia; Oxidation-Reduction; Oxidative Stress; catalase; CD16 antigen; gamma interferon inducible protein 10; interleukin 1beta; interleukin 6; messenger RNA; peroxiredoxin 1; peroxiredoxin 4; transcription factor FKHR; antioxidant; FOXO1 protein, human; transcription factor FKHR; apoptosis; Article; BV-2 cell line; cell death; cell fate; cell function; controlled study; CRISPR-CAS9 system; down regulation; gene expression; homeostasis; human; human cell; keratinocyte; maximal oxygen uptake; metabolic parameters; microglia; oxidation reduction reaction; oxidation reduction state; oxidative stress; polarization; protein expression; protein function; real time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction; regulatory mechanism; room temperature; brain; metabolism; microglia; oxidative stress | English | 2023 | 2023-04 | 10.1007/s10753-022-01771-5 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Degumming effects of silk fabrics as piezoelectrics for nanogenerators | This study evaluated the suitability of silk fabric as a piezoelectric nanogenerator (PENG). A PENG with excellent mechanical and electrical properties as well as biocompatibility was fabricated using silk. Silk fibers are composed of sericin and fibroin, and effect of sericin on the piezoelectric properties was evaluated. X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared analyses showed that the presence of sericin reduced the piezoelectricity, and its removal (degumming) improved the electrical output characteristics of the specimens. The device output performance exhibited a positive dependence on pressure conditions, such as the load and pushing frequency. The generators prepared from specimens before and after degumming showed power densities of 0.43 and 1.52 mu W/cm2, respectively, at an applied stress of 110 N. The electrical properties of the fabricated silk PENG were stable even after 10,000 cycles. Silk-fabric PENGs can be fabricated as low-cost, high-output devices without additional processes, such as electrospinning or coating, and they show significant potential for application in biosensors, medical sensors, and implantable medical devices. | Kim, Min-Soo; Commerell, Walter; Roh, Jong-Wook; Park, Sang-Shik | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Nano & Adv Mat Engn, Gyeongbuk 37224, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Adv Sci & Technol Convergence, Gyeongbuk 37224, South Korea; Tech Hsch Ulm, Electrochem Energy Storage, Albert Einstein Allee 53, Ulm, Germany | 58608961200; 56431049800; 25638796100; 7501833211 | parkss@knu.ac.kr; | MATERIALS SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING B-ADVANCED FUNCTIONAL SOLID-STATE MATERIALS | MATER SCI ENG B-ADV | 0921-5107 | 1873-4944 | 298 | SCIE | MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;PHYSICS, CONDENSED MATTER | 2023 | 3.9 | 33.5 | 1.11 | 2025-06-25 | 9 | 9 | Silk fibroin; Bio-piezoelectric; Silk fabric; Nanogenerator; Sericin; Energy harvesting | FIBROIN; SERICIN; FIBER; FILM | Bio-piezoelectric; Energy harvesting; Nanogenerator; Sericin; Silk fabric; Silk fibroin | Biocompatibility; Crystallography; Degumming; Piezoelectricity; Bio-piezoelectric; Mechanical and electrical properties; Nanogenerators; Piezoelectric; Piezoelectric nanogenerator; Piezoelectric property; Sericin; Silk fabrics; Silk fibres; Silk fibroin; Nanogenerators | English | 2023 | 2023-12 | 10.1016/j.mseb.2023.116898 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Interconnected plate-like NiCo2O4 microstructures for supercapacitor application | The precise synthesis of interconnected and porous microstructured electrode materials for supercapacitor application is always challenging to obtain maximum surface area for electrode-electrolyte interaction. Herein, the interconnected microstructured morphology of NiCo2O4 is synthesized via an inexpensive chemical route viz hydrothermal method. Synthesized NiCo2O4 nanomaterial is characterized for structural, morphological, electrochemical characteristics by XRD, SEM, CV, GCD, and EIS measurements. The XRD pattern reveals that nanostructured material is polycrystalline with a cubic phase. The average crystallite size of NiCo2O4 is 10.85 nm. The SEM analysis confirms interconnected plates microstructures with surface aea of 34 m(2)g(-1). The NiCo2O4 electrodes are fabricated and their specific capacitance was measured using CV and GCD data. The maximum specific capacitance of the NiCo2O4 electrode is 550 F/g. Furthermore, an as-fabricated asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) has an energy density of 3.81 Wh/kg, a power density of 789 W/kg at 4 mAcm(-2), and capacitance retention of 87% after 2,000 cycle. An interconnected plate-like microstructure of NiCo2O4 material is a potential candidate for energy storage application. | Yewale, M. A.; Kadam, R. A.; Kaushik, N. K.; Koduru, J. R.; Velhal, N. | ○ | ○ | Article | Amorphous ITZO-Based Selector Device for Memristor Crossbar Array | In the era of digital transformation, a memristor and memristive circuit can provide an advanced computer architecture that efficiently processes a vast quantity of data. With the unique characteristic of memristor, a memristive crossbar array has been utilized for realization of nonvolatile memory, logic-in-memory circuit, and neuromorphic system. However, the crossbar array architecture suffers from leakage of current, known as the sneak current, which causes a cross-talk interference problem between adjacent memristor devices, leading to an unavoidable operational error and high power consumption. Here, we present an amorphous In-Sn-Zn-O (a-ITZO) oxide semiconductor-based selector device to address the sneak current issue. The a-ITZO-selector device is realized with the back-to-back Schottky diode with nonlinear current-voltage (I-V) characteristics. Its nonlinearity is dependent on the oxygen plasma treatment process which can suppress the surface electron accumulation layer arising on the a-ITZO surface. The a-ITZO-selector device shows reliable characteristics against electrical stress and high temperature. In addition, the selector device allows for a stable read margin over 1 Mbit of memristor crossbar array. | ○ | Article | Analytical and Physical Investigation on Source Resistance in InxGa1−xAs Quantum-Well High-Electron-Mobility Transistors | We present a fully analytical model and physical investigation on the source resistance (RS) in InxGa1−xAs quantum-well high-electron mobility transistors based on a three-layer TLM system. The RS model in this work was derived by solving the coupled quadratic differential equations for each current component with appropriate boundary conditions, requiring only six physical and geometrical parameters, including ohmic contact resistivity (ρc), barrier tunneling resistivity (ρbarrier), sheet resistances of the cap and channel regions (Rshcₐₚ and Rshcₕ), side-recessed length (Lside) and gate-to-source length (Lgs). To extract each model parameter, we fabricated two different TLM structures, such as cap-TLM and recessed-TLM. The developed RS model in this work was in excellent agreement with the RS values measured from the two TLM devices and previously reported short-Lg HEMT devices. The findings in this work revealed that barrier tunneling resistivity already played a critical role in reducing the value of RS in state-of-the-art HEMTs. Unless the barrier tunneling resistivity is reduced considerably, innovative engineering on the ohmic contact characteristics and gate-to-source spacing would only marginally improve the device performance. © 2023 by the authors. | Yoo, Ji-Hoon; Lee, In-Geun; Tsutsumi, Takuya; Sugiyama, Hiroki; Matsuzaki, Hideaki; Lee, Jae-Hak; Kim, Dae-Hyun | School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Kyungpook National University (KNU), Daegu, 41566, South Korea; School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Kyungpook National University (KNU), Daegu, 41566, South Korea; NTT Device Technology Laboratories, Atsugi-shi, 243-0198, Japan; NTT Device Technology Laboratories, Atsugi-shi, 243-0198, Japan; NTT Device Technology Laboratories, Atsugi-shi, 243-0198, Japan; School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Kyungpook National University (KNU), Daegu, 41566, South Korea; School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Kyungpook National University (KNU), Daegu, 41566, South Korea | 57545572700; 37016357200; 37007126500; 35417698400; 7202461821; 55690077600; 57212363794 | dae-hyun.kim@ee.knu.ac.kr; | Micromachines | MICROMACHINES-BASEL | N/A | 2072-666X | 14 | 2 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION;NANOSCIENCE & NANOTECHNOLOGY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 3 | 33.6 | 0.25 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | HEMT; InxGa1−xAs; source resistance; TLM | Boundary conditions; Electron mobility; Geometry; Ohmic contacts; Semiconductor quantum wells; Contact resistivities; Current component; High electron-mobility transistors; Inxga1−xas; Quadratic differential equations; Quantum-wells; Resistance models; Source resistance; Three-layer; TLM; High electron mobility transistors | English | Final | 2023 | 10.3390/mi14020439 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Crack-Based Sensor by Using the UV Curable Polyurethane-Acrylate Coated Film with V-Groove Arrays | Over the years, several bare metal and crack-based strain sensors have been proposed for various fields of science and technology. However, due to their low gauge factor, metal-based strain sensors have limited practical applications. The crack-based strain sensor, on the other hand, demonstrated excellent sensitivity and a high gauge factor. However, the crack-based strain sensor exhibited non-linear behavior at low strains, severely limiting its real-time applications. Generally, the crack-based strain sensors are fabricated by generating cracks by bending a polymer film on which a metal layer has been deposited with a constant curvature. However, the random formation of cracks produces nonlinear behavior in the crack sensors. To overcome the limitations of the current state of the art, we propose a V-groove-based metal strain sensor for human motion monitoring and Morse code generation. The V-groove crack-based strain sensor is fabricated on polyurethane acrylate (PUA) using the modified photolithography technique. During the procedure, a V-groove pattern formed on the surface of the sensor, and a uniform crack formed over the entire surface by concentrating stress along the groove. To improve the sensitivity and selectivity of the sensor, we generated the cracks in a controlled direction. The proposed strain sensor exhibited high sensitivity and excellent fidelity compared to the other reported metal strain sensors. The gauge factor of the proposed V-groove-induced crack sensor is 10-fold higher than the gauge factor of the reported metal strain sensors. In addition, the fabricated V-groove-based strain sensor exhibited rapid response and recovery times. The practical feasibility of the proposed V-groove-induced crack-based strain sensor is demonstrated through human motion monitoring and the generation of Morse code. The proposed V-groove crack sensor can detect multiple motions in a variety of human activities and is anticipated to be utilized in several applications due to its high durability and reproducibility. | Park, Jongsung; Kim, Dong-Su; Yoon, Youngsam; Shanmugasundaram, Arunkumar; Lee, Dong-Weon | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Precis Mech Engn, Sangju 37224, South Korea; Chonnam Natl Univ, Sch Mech Engn, Gwangju 61186, South Korea; Korea Mil Acad, Dept Elect Engn, Seoul 01805, South Korea; Chonnam Natl Univ, Adv Med Device Res Ctr Cardiovasc Dis, Gwangju 61186, South Korea | ; Shanmugasundaram, Dr. Arunkumar/ABD-4029-2020; Kim, Kwang/J-5385-2012; SHANMUGASUNDARAM, ARUNKUMAR/ABD-4029-2020 | 57189583605; 56569118200; 59035430800; 55750828400; 34875377700 | mems@jnu.ac.kr; | MICROMACHINES | MICROMACHINES-BASEL | 2072-666X | 14 | 1 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION;NANOSCIENCE & NANOTECHNOLOGY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 3 | 33.6 | 0.86 | 2025-06-25 | 7 | 7 | polyurethane-acrylate (PUA); crack-based strain sensor; high sensitivity; excellent fidelity; human motion monitoring | WEARABLE STRAIN SENSORS; THIN-FILM; PRESSURE | crack-based strain sensor; excellent fidelity; high sensitivity; human motion monitoring; polyurethane-acrylate (PUA) | Codes (symbols); Curing; Gages; Polyurethanes; Semiconducting films; Strain; Crack-based strain sensor; Excellent fidelity; High sensitivity; Human motion monitoring; Human motions; Polyurethane-acrylate; Polyurethane/acrylate; Strain sensors; V grooves; V-groove; Polymer films | English | 2023 | 2023-01 | 10.3390/mi14010062 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Review | Electric and Magnetic Field-Driven Dynamic Structuring for Smart Functional Devices | The field of soft matter is rapidly growing and pushing the limits of conventional materials science and engineering. Soft matter refers to materials that are easily deformed by thermal fluctuations and external forces, allowing for better adaptation and interaction with the environment. This has opened up opportunities for applications such as stretchable electronics, soft robotics, and microfluidics. In particular, soft matter plays a crucial role in microfluidics, where viscous forces at the microscale pose a challenge to controlling dynamic material behavior and operating functional devices. Field-driven active colloidal systems are a promising model system for building smart functional devices, where dispersed colloidal particles can be activated and controlled by external fields such as magnetic and electric fields. This review focuses on building smart functional devices from field-driven collective patterns, specifically the dynamic structuring of hierarchically ordered structures. These structures self-organize from colloidal building blocks and exhibit reconfigurable collective patterns that can implement smart functions such as shape shifting and self-healing. The review clarifies the basic mechanisms of field-driven particle dynamic behaviors and how particle-particle interactions determine the collective patterns of dynamic structures. Finally, the review concludes by highlighting representative application areas and future directions. | Han, Koohee | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Chem Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 57192061329 | han.koohee@knu.ac.kr; | MICROMACHINES | MICROMACHINES-BASEL | 2072-666X | 14 | 3 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION;NANOSCIENCE & NANOTECHNOLOGY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 3 | 33.6 | 0.52 | 2025-06-25 | 12 | 12 | soft matter; active colloids; directed assembly; dynamic structuring; collective patterns; smart functional devices | COLLOIDAL PARTICLES; ELECTRORHEOLOGICAL FLUIDS; COLLECTIVE DYNAMICS; JANUS PARTICLES; SOFT MATTER; MODEL; CRYSTALLIZATION; MOLECULES; EVOLUTION; DIPOLAR | active colloids; collective patterns; directed assembly; dynamic structuring; smart functional devices; soft matter | Electric fields; Active colloid; Collective pattern; Conventional materials; Directed assembly; Dynamic structuring; Electric and magnetic fields; Functional devices; Materials science and engineering; Smart functional device; Soft matter; Microfluidics | English | 2023 | 2023-03 | 10.3390/mi14030661 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | In Situ Synthesis of Crystalline MoS2@ZIF-67 Nanocomposite for the Efficient Removal of Methyl Orange Dye from Aqueous Media | The zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) adsorbent and its composites are known to effectively remove organic dyes from aqueous environments. Here, we report a unique crystalline MoS2@ZIF-67 nanocomposite adsorbent for the efficient removal of methyl orange (MO) dye from an aqueous medium. In situ synthetic techniques were used to fabricate a well-crystalline MoS2@ZIF-67 nanocomposite, which was then discovered to be a superior adsorbent to its constituents. The successful synthesis of the nanocomposite was confirmed using XRD, EDX, FTIR, and SEM. The MoS2@ZIF-67 nanocomposite exhibited faster adsorption kinetics and higher dye removal efficiency compared with its constituents. The adsorption kinetic data matched well with the pseudo-second-order model, which signifies that the MO adsorption on the nanocomposite is a chemically driven process. The Langmuir model successfully illustrated the MO dye adsorption on the nanocomposite through comparing the real data with adsorption isotherm models. However, it appears that the Freundlich adsorption isotherm model was also in competition with the Langmuir model. According to the acquired thermodynamics parameters, the adsorption of MO on the MoS2@ZIF-67 nanocomposite surface was determined to be spontaneous and exothermic. The findings of this research open an avenue for using the MoS2@ZIF-67 nanocomposite to efficiently remove organic dyes from wastewater efflux. | Nawz, Tahreem Haq; Masood, Muhammad Talha; Safdar, Amna; Shahid, Muhammad; Noor, Tayyaba; Hussain, Muzammil; Razi, Ayesha; Umer, Malik Adeel | Natl Univ Sci & Technol NUST, Sch Chem & Mat Engn SCME, H-12 Sect, Islamabad 44000, Pakistan; Natl Univ Sci & Technol NUST, Sch Interdisciplinary Engn & Sci SINES, H-12 Sect, Islamabad 44000, Pakistan; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Appl Chem, 80 Daehak Ro, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Safdar, Amna/IAN-4427-2023 | 57219306483; 57192545137; 56919385100; 58945040400; 56015813900; 58279975000; 58549976400; 55201999300 | tahreem.bs.chemistry@gmail.com;talha.masood@scme.nust.edu.pk;amna.safdar@scme.nust.edu.pk;mshahid@scme.nust.edu.pk;tayyaba.noor@scme.nust.edu.pk;muzammil.nibge.pk@gmail.com;ayesharazi5030@gmail.com;umer.adeel@scme.nust.edu.pk; | MICROMACHINES | MICROMACHINES-BASEL | 2072-666X | 14 | 8 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION;NANOSCIENCE & NANOTECHNOLOGY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 3 | 33.6 | 0.74 | 2025-06-25 | 7 | 6 | dye sensing; methyl orange; adsorption kinetics; 2D-MoS2@ZIF-67 nanocomposite; MoS2 nanosheets; water purification | HIGH ADSORPTION CAPACITY; METAL-ORGANIC FRAMEWORK; MOLYBDENUM-DISULFIDE; MOS2 NANOSHEETS; EQUILIBRIUM; DEGRADATION; TEMPERATURE; MEMBRANES; BEHAVIOR; ZIF-67 | 2D-MoS2@ZIF-67 nanocomposite; adsorption kinetics; dye sensing; methyl orange; MoS2 nanosheets; water purification | Adsorption; Adsorption isotherms; Azo dyes; Citrus fruits; Kinetics; Layered semiconductors; Nanocomposites; 2d-MoS2@zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 nanocomposite; Adsorption kinetics; Aqueous media; Dye sensing; Methyl Orange; Methyl orange dyes; MoS2 nanosheet; Organic dye; Water purification; Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks; Molybdenum compounds | English | 2023 | 2023-08 | 10.3390/mi14081534 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Spin Polarization and Flat Bands in Eu-Doped Nanoporous and Twisted Bilayer Graphenes | Advanced two-dimensional spin-polarized heterostructures based on twisted (TBG) and nanoporous (NPBG) bilayer graphenes doped with Eu ions were theoretically proposed and studied using Periodic Boundary Conditions Density Functional theory electronic structure calculations. The significant polarization of the electronic states at the Fermi level was discovered for both Eu/NPBG(AA) and Eu/TBG lattices. Eu ions' chemi- and physisorption to both graphenes may lead to structural deformations, drop of symmetry of low-dimensional lattices, interlayer fusion, and mutual slides of TBG graphene fragments. The frontier bands in the valence region at the vicinity of the Fermi level of both spin-polarized 2D Eu/NPBG(AA) and Eu/TBG lattices clearly demonstrate flat dispersion laws caused by localized electronic states formed by TBG Moire patterns, which could lead to strong electron correlations and the formation of exotic quantum phases. | Melchakova, Iu.
