| ○ | Article | Surface Nanodroplet-Based Extraction Combined with Offline Analytic Techniques for Chemical Detection and Quantification | Liquid-liquid extraction based on surface nanodroplets can be a green and sustainable technique to extract and concentrate analytes from a sample flow. However, because of the extremely small volume of each droplet (<10 fL, tens of micrometers in base radius and a few or less than 1 μm in height), only a few in situ analytical techniques, such as surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, were applicable for the online detection and analysis based on nanodroplet extraction. To demonstrate the versatility of surface nanodroplet-based extraction, in this work, the formation of octanol surface nanodroplets and extraction were performed inside a 3 m Teflon capillary tube. After extraction, surface nanodroplets were collected by injecting air into the tube, by which the contact line of surface droplets was collected by the capillary force. As the capillary allows for the formation of ∼1012surface nanodroplets on the capillary wall, ≥2 mL of octanol can be collected after extraction. The volume of the collected octanol was enough for the analysis of offline analytical techniques such as UV-vis, GC-MS, and others. Coupled with UV-vis, reliable extraction and detection of two common water pollutants, triclosan and chlorpyrifos, was shown by a linear relationship between the analyte concentration in the sample solution and UV-vis absorbance. Moreover, the limit of detection (LOD) as low as 2 × 10-9M for triclosan (∼0.58 μg/L) and 3 × 10-9M for chlorpyrifos (∼1.05 μg/L) could be achieved. The collected surface droplets were also analyzed via gas chromatography (GC) and fluorescence microscopy. Our work shows that surface nanodroplet extraction may potentially streamline the process in sample pretreatment for sensitive chemical detection and quantification by using common analytic tools. © 2022 American Chemical Society. | ○ | ○ | Article | Derivation and structural analysis of a three-input interval type-2 TS fuzzy PID controller | Showing superior performance in many areas, interval type-2 (IT2) fuzzy control has received wide acceptability in the last few years. The improved performance is mainly by virtue of the footprint of uncertainty (FoU) underlying the IT2 fuzzy sets. But the design of IT2 fuzzy controllers remains a challenging task since the FoU increases the computational complexity. We propose in this paper a simplified structure of a novel three-input IT2 Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy PID controller, a parallel combination of fuzzy PI and fuzzy PD controllers having two inputs, respectively. A novel TS rule base is presented which incorporates uncertainty in both input IT2 fuzzy sets and the rule consequent parameters. The rule base consists of two rules that are logically connected with algebraic product (AP) triangular norm and bounded sum (BS) triangular co-norm. AP and BS operators enable the simplification of the input plane, which in turn reduces the complexity of the controller structure. The effect of FoU on the controller structure is fully investigated. Further, we present the simulation studies on magnetic levitation (MagLev) and cart-pole systems to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed fuzzy PID controller. | Raj, Ritu; Mohan, B. | ○ | ○ | Article | Reduced Graphene Oxide Aerogels with Functionalization-Mediated Disordered Stacking for Sodium-Ion Batteries | Surface modified reduced graphene oxide (rGO) aerogels were synthesized using the hydrothermal method. Ethylene diamine (EDA) and alpha-cyclodextrin (CD) were used to functionalize the surface of the graphene oxide layers. The oxygen reduction and surface modification occurred in-situ during the hydrothermal self-assembly process. The chemical functionality and structure of the resulting ethylene diamine modified (rGO-EDA) and cyclodextrin modified (rGO-CD) aerogels as well as of the pristine unmodified rGO aerogel were studied using XPS, SEM, XRD, and SANS techniques. The overall surface composition showed a significant decrease in the oxygen content for all synthesized aerogels. The surface modified aerogels were characterized by a disordered stacking of the assembled rGO layers. The surface functionalities resulted in a broad distribution of the interlayer spacing and introduced structural heterogeneities. Such disordered structures can enable a better adsorption mechanism of the sodium ions. Coin cells based on the synthesized aerogels and sodium metal were assembled and tested at several charge and discharge rates. The correlation between the surface functionality of the rGO, the induced structural heterogeneities due to the disordered stacking, and the electrochemical performance of sodium-ion batteries were investigated. Operando XRD measurements were carried out during the battery cycling to investigate the adsorption or intercalation nature of the sodiation mechanism. | Park, Jaehyeung; Sharma, Jaswinder; Jafta, Charl J.; He, Lilin; Meyer, Harry M.; Li, Jianlin; Keum, Jong K.; Nguyen, Ngoc A.; Polizos, Georgios | Oak Ridge Natl Lab, Electrificat & Energy Infrastruct Div, Oak Ridge, TN 37831 USA; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Biofibers & Mat Sci, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Oak Ridge Natl Lab, Neutron Scattering Div, Oak Ridge, TN 37831 USA; Oak Ridge Natl Lab, Div Chem Sci, Oak Ridge, TN 37831 USA; Oak Ridge Natl Lab, Ctr Nanophase Mat Sci, Oak Ridge, TN 37831 USA; Univ Illinois, Inst Appl Res, 2100 S Oak St, Champaign, IL 61820 USA | Keum, Jong/N-4412-2015; Nguyen, Ngoc/E-5139-2017; Jafta, Charl/AAH-9295-2021; Li, Jianlin/HTN-1569-2023; Meyer, Harry/G-6949-2017 | 55566554000; 57203232653; 36468595000; 39863130100; 35555450500; 55883344000; 26642999400; 55520070200; 6602247302 | parkj@knu.ac.kr;sharmajk@ornl.gov;jaftacj@ornl.gov;hel3@ornl.gov;meyerhmiii@ornl.gov;lij4@ornl.gov;keumjk@ornl.gov;nanguyen@illinois.edu;polyzosg@ornl.gov; | BATTERIES-BASEL | BATTERIES-BASEL | 2313-0105 | 8 | 2 | SCIE | ELECTROCHEMISTRY;ENERGY & FUELS;MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY | 2022 | 4 | 41.4 | 0.73 | 2025-06-25 | 9 | 10 | reduced graphene oxide; aerogel; hydrothermal; sodium-ion batteries | ELECTRODE MATERIALS; LITHIUM; ENERGY; FOAMS; LAYER | Aerogel; Hydrothermal; Reduced graphene oxide; Sodium‐ion batteries | Amines; Cyclodextrins; Electrolytic reduction; Ethylene; Graphene; Metal ions; Oxygen; Sodium; Sodium-ion batteries; X ray diffraction; Ethylene diamine; Graphene oxide aerogels; Hydrothermal; Oxide layer; Reduced graphene oxides; Sodium ion batteries; Stackings; Surface functionalities; Surface-modified; Synthesised; Aerogels | English | 2022 | 2022-02 | 10.3390/batteries8020012 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Weighted differential evolution-based heuristic computing for identification of Hammerstein systems in electrically stimulated muscle modeling | In this paper, weighted differential evolution (WDE)-based evolutionary heuristic computing is presented for parameter estimation of nonlinear dynamics of the electrically stimulated muscle system based on a Hammerstein model structure as an element of rehabilitation program for the stroke patient. The approximation theory is defined on the basis of mean square error of actual and estimated responses for the system's fitness function. Optimization technique based on WDE is employed to find the optimal parameters of ESM model with sigmoidal, polynomial and spline as input nonlinear functions. Statistical analysis verified the worth of WDE as computational heuristic technique for identification of electrically stimulated muscle system. | Mehmood, Ammara; Raja, Muhammad Asif Zahoor; Shi, Peng; Chaudhary, Naveed Ishtiaq | Univ Adelaide, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Adelaide, SA, Australia; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect Engn, Daegu, South Korea; Natl Yunlin Univ Sci & Technol, Future Technol Res Ctr, 123 Univ Rd,Sect 3, Touliu 64002, Yunlin, Taiwan; COMSATS Univ Islamabad, Dept Elect & Comp Engn, Attock Campus, Attock 43600, Pakistan; Int Islamic Univ, Dept Elect Engn, Islamabad, Pakistan | Raja, Muhammad/D-7325-2013; Mehmood, Ammara/AAR-4377-2020; Chaudhary, Naveed Ishtiaq/I-7754-2019; Raja, Muhammad Asif Zahoor/D-7325-2013; Shi, Peng/H-5906-2012 | 57205730184; 36739939800; 36748941200; 55796347500 | ammara.mehmood@adelaide.edu.au;rajamaz@yuntech.edu.tw;peng.shi@adelaide.edu.au;naveed.ishtiaq@iiu.edu.pk; | SOFT COMPUTING | SOFT COMPUT | 1432-7643 | 1433-7479 | 26 | 17 | SCIE | COMPUTER SCIENCE, ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE;COMPUTER SCIENCE, INTERDISCIPLINARY APPLICATIONS | 2022 | 4.1 | 41.4 | 2.36 | 2025-06-25 | 15 | 17 | Electrically stimulated muscle modeling; Weighted differential evolution; Nonlinear controlled autoregressive model; Parameter estimation | SPINAL-CORD-INJURY; PARAMETER-ESTIMATION; ALGORITHM; RECOVERY | Electrically stimulated muscle modeling; Nonlinear controlled autoregressive model; Parameter estimation; Weighted differential evolution | Computation theory; Evolutionary algorithms; Heuristic algorithms; Heuristic methods; Mean square error; Muscle; Nonlinear analysis; Nonlinear systems; Parameter estimation; Patient rehabilitation; Autoregressive modelling; Differential Evolution; Electrically stimulated muscle modeling; Hammerstein system; Heuristic computing; Muscle models; Muscle system; Nonlinear controled autoregressive model; Parameters estimation; Weighted differential evolution; Optimization | English | 2022 | 2022-09 | 10.1007/s00500-021-06701-5 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |

| ○ | ○ | Article | Suppression of transient receptor potential melastatin 7 regulates pluripotency, proliferation, and differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells via mechanistic target of rapamycin-extracellular signal-regulated kinase activation | Mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs) are a widely used model for their diverse availability in studying early embryonic development and their application in regenerative treatment of various intractable diseases. Transient receptor potential melastatin 7 (Trpm7) regulates Ca2+ as a nonselective ion channel and is essential for early embryonic development; however, the precise role of Trpm7 in mESCs has not been clearly elucidated. In this study, we showed that the inhibition of Trpm7 affects the pluripotency and self-renewal of mESCs. We found that short hairpin RNA (shRNA)-mediated suppression of Trpm7 resulted in decreased expression of transcriptional regulators, Oct4 and Sox2, which maintain stemness in mESCs. In addition, Trpm7 knockdown led to alterations in the basic properties of mESCs, such as decreased proliferation, cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase, and increased apoptosis. Furthermore, embryoid body (EB) formation and teratoma formation assays revealed abnormal regulation of differentiation due to Trpm7 knockdown, including the smaller size of EBs, elevated ectodermal differentiation, and diminished endodermal and mesodermal differentiation. We found that EB Day 7 samples displayed decreased intracellular Ca2+ levels compared to those of the scrambled group. Finally, we identified that these alterations induced by Trpm7 knockdown occurred due to decreased phosphorylation of mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) and subsequent activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) in mESCs. Our findings suggest that Trpm7 could be a novel regulator for maintaining stemness and modulating the differentiation of mESCs. | Kim, Wansoo; Park, Song; Kwon, Wookbong; Kim, Daehwan; Park, Jin-Kyu; Han, Jee Eun; Cho, Gil-Jae; Han, Se-Hyeon; Sung, Yonghun; Yi, Jun-Koo; Kim, Myoung Ok; Ryoo, Zae Young; Choi, Seong-Kyoon | DGIST, Core Prot Resources Ctr, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Life Sci, BK21 FOUR KNU Creat Biores, Daegu, South Korea; DGIST, Dept Brain & Cognit Sci, Daegu, South Korea; DGIST, Div Biotechnol, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Vet Med, Daegu, South Korea; SBS Seoul Broadcasting Syst, Dept News Team, Seoul, South Korea; Hanyang Univ, Sch Media Commun, Seoul, South Korea; Daegu Gyeongbuk Med Innovat Fdn, Lab Anim Ctr, Daegu, South Korea; Gyeongbuk Livestock Res Inst, Yeongju, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, ITRD, Dept Anim Sci & Biotechnol, Sangju, South Korea | RYOO, ZAEYOUNG/AAQ-1573-2020; Yi, Junkoo/JBR-8507-2023 | 57352897900; 57139047900; 57139843600; 57212363780; 35213723500; 57214671240; 7201438083; 57210915063; 58903739800; 56182537200; 8934745900; 16937104900; 55505432500 | jaewoong64@knu.ac.kr;cskbest@dgist.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF CELLULAR BIOCHEMISTRY | J CELL BIOCHEM | 0730-2312 | 1097-4644 | 123 | 3 | SCIE | BIOCHEMISTRY & MOLECULAR BIOLOGY;CELL BIOLOGY | 2022 | 4 | 41.6 | 0.25 | 2025-06-25 | 3 | 3 | ERK; mESC; mESC differentiation; mTOR; pluripotency; Trpm7 | CALCIUM; ENDODERM; STIMULATION; PLASTICITY; CALPAIN-2; ROLES | ERK; mESC; mESC differentiation; mTOR; pluripotency; Trpm7 | Animals; Cell Differentiation; Cell Proliferation; Extracellular Signal-Regulated MAP Kinases; Mice; Mouse Embryonic Stem Cells; RNA, Small Interfering; Sirolimus; TOR Serine-Threonine Kinases; TRPM Cation Channels; calcium ion; mammalian target of rapamycin; mitogen activated protein kinase; octamer transcription factor 4; short hairpin RNA; transcription factor Sox2; transient receptor potential channel M7; mitogen activated protein kinase; sirolimus; small interfering RNA; target of rapamycin kinase; transient receptor potential channel M; Trpm7 protein, mouse; animal cell; apoptosis; Article; calcium cell level; cell differentiation; cell proliferation; cell size; cell survival; controlled study; ectoderm; embryoid body; endoderm; enzyme activation; G1 phase cell cycle checkpoint; gene repression; in vitro study; mesodermal cell; mouse; mouse embryonic stem cell; nonhuman; protein expression; protein phosphorylation; stem cell self-renewal; teratoma; animal; cell differentiation; cell proliferation; genetics; metabolism | English | 2022 | 2022-03 | 10.1002/jcb.30199 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Three-dimensional printing of wheat flour and Acheta domesticus powder blends | Three-dimensional printing (3DP), a novel food-processing technique, may improve the aesthetic qualities of insect-based products. In this study, structural and morphological properties of insect powder-based bio-inks with 0%-75% insect powder (IP) in wheat flour (WF) matrix were evaluated. Proximate composition, water absorption capacity, amino acids and degree of redness and yellowness increased (P < 0.05). Fourier transform infrared analysis, scanning electron microscope and 3D printability results showed good incorporation of IP and WF. Good viscoelastic properties were exhibited by the inks using 40% solid of 75% IP and 25% WF, and 50% solid of 50% IP and 50% WF. These samples showed comparable dimensions to the standard design and had good textural properties. | ○ | ○ | Article | Activated Hollow and Solid Carbon Spheres for Enhanced Removal Efficiency of Pharmaceutical Pollutants and Heavy Metals in Water | Heteroatom-doped carbons are emerging candidates for metal-free catalysis, photocatalysis, and pollutant removal. Herein, we report the synthesis of N-doped solid (CS) and hollow carbon spheres (CNB) via a modified Stober's method. TEM, Raman, and XPS characterization techniques demonstrated a well-constructed N-doped sp(2)/sp(3) hybridized carbons scaffold. Both CNB and CS nanospherical carbons have shown a high surface area of 360 and 400 m(2)/g, respectively, making them ideal candidates for the adsorption of pharmaceutical pollutants (cipro-floxacin and ibuprofen) and heavy metals (Pb and Cr) from wastewater. These materials have good interfacial interaction with the adsorbate and generate the proper medium to facilitate fast and efficient remediation. The highest surface adsorption (96% in 30 min) was observed for ibuprofen by CS. Interestingly, CNB was more selective for heavy metals at lower concentrations, while CS showed high surface adsorption at higher concentrations. | Laishram, Devika; Kumar, Divya; Kant, Vishav; Saini, Bhagirath; Shejale, Kiran P.; Krishnapriya, R.; Janu, Vikash C.; Singhal, Rahul; Sharma, Rakesh K. | Indian Inst Technol Jodhpur, Dept Chem, Sustainable Mat & Catalysis Res Lab, NH 65, Karwar 342037, Rajasthan, India; Univ Coll Dublin, Sch Chem & Bioproc Engn, Dublin 4, Ireland; Jagiellonian Univ, Fac Chem, Gronostajowa 2, PL-30387 Krakow, Poland; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Mech Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; United Arab Emirate Univ, Coll Engn, Mech & Aerosp Engn Dept, Al Ain 15551, U Arab Emirates; Def Lab DRDO, Jodhpur 342011, Rajasthan, India; Cent Connecticut State Univ, Dept Phys & Engn Phys, New Britain, CT 06050 USA | ; Laishram, Devika/IUM-8980-2023; Shejale, Kiran/G-3183-2019; Sharma, FRSC, Rakesh/C-8270-2015; Krishnapriya, R./D-3564-2017; Singhal, Rahul/AEX-2900-2022; KRISHNAPRIYA, R/D-3564-2017; Sharma, FRSC, MRACI CChem,, Rakesh/C-8270-2015 | 57063210400; 57224687080; 57270839100; 57226682618; 57063450100; 56941852400; 59783468200; 57224549688; 58266758200 | rks@iitj.ac.in; | WATER AIR AND SOIL POLLUTION | WATER AIR SOIL POLL | 0049-6979 | 1573-2932 | 233 | 10 | SCIE | ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES;METEOROLOGY & ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCES;WATER RESOURCES | 2022 | 2.9 | 42.2 | 0.49 | 2025-06-25 | 6 | 7 | Antibiotic removal; Heavy metal removal; N-doped carbon; Core-shell carbon; Hollow carbon | AQUEOUS-SOLUTIONS; ADSORPTION; CIPROFLOXACIN; ANTIBIOTICS; IBUPROFEN; REMEDIATION | Antibiotic removal; Core–shell carbon; Heavy metal removal; Hollow carbon; N-doped carbon | Adsorption; Antibiotics; Catalysis; Doping (additives); Heavy metals; Scaffolds; Water pollution; carbon; chromium; ciprofloxacin; formaldehyde; ibuprofen; lead; nanosphere; nitrogen; resorcinol; Antibiotic removal; Core shell; Core–shell carbon; Doped carbons; Heavy metal removal; Hollow carbon; N-doped; N-doped carbon; Solid carbon; Surface adsorption; activated carbon; adsorption; catalysis; chemical pollutant; heavy metal; photochemistry; pollutant removal; wastewater; water pollution; adsorption; Article; catalysis; chemical interaction; concentration response; ecosystem restoration; hybridization; mathematical analysis; photocatalysis; Raman spectrometry; surface area; transmission electron microscopy; waste component removal; wastewater; water pollutant; X ray photoemission spectroscopy; Carbon | English | 2022 | 2022-10 | 10.1007/s11270-022-05869-2 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
