Article A Comparative Study of Engraved-Digit Data Augmentation by Generative Adversarial Networks In cases where an efficient information retrieval (IR) system retrieves information from images with engraved digits, as found on medicines, creams, ointments, and gels in squeeze tubes, the system needs to be trained on a large dataset. One of the system applications is to automatically retrieve the expiry date to ascertain the efficacy of the medicine. For expiry dates expressed in engraved digits, it is difficult to collect the digit images. In our study, we evaluated the augmentation performance for a limited, engraved-digit dataset using various generative adversarial networks (GANs). Our study contributes to the choice of an effective GAN for engraved-digit image data augmentation. We conclude that Wasserstein GAN with a gradient norm penalty (WGAN-GP) is a suitable data augmentation technique to address the challenge of producing a large, realistic, but synthetic dataset. Our results show that the stability of WGAN-GP aids in the production of high-quality data with an average Frechet inception distance (FID) value of 1.5298 across images of 10 digits (0-9) that are nearly indistinguishable from our original dataset. Article An Analysis of Nanoparticles Derived from Coal Fly Ash Incorporated into Concrete The environmental benefits of incorporating coal fly ash (CFA) into the concrete manufacturing process as a partial substitute for Portland cement are well known. What is less studied is the potential release of CFA derived nanomineral and amorphous nanoparticles during this process of incorporation. A thorough understanding of this makes it possible to understand the risks of exposure to particulates that are harmful to human health when CFA is mixed into concrete. The general objective of this study is to analyze airborne particulates released when CFA is mixed into concrete at the point of manufacture, focusing on the levels of nanominerals, amorphous nanoparticles and hazardous elements (HEs) contained within that are considered harmful to human health. These airborne particulates can be easily inhaled by plant workers in the absence of personal protective equipment. The authors analyzed samples of ash itself and collected actual airborne particulates using self-made passive samplers installed at the manufacturing plant. Regarding the ash analyzed, iron (Fe) was found in large amounts in relation to calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and silicon (Si). The transport, disposal and application of CFA in civil construction projects can provide an increased efficiency and reduce overall costs associated with the production of concrete. However, CFA poses a threat to human health due to the significant amount of HEs, nanominerals, and amorphous nanoparticles found to be released into the environment at the manufacturing plant. Article Building a Diagnostic Model for the Development Phase of Gentrification in the Original City Centers of the Provinces in Korea Recently, gentrification has occurred not only in Seoul, the capital, but also nationwide in Korea. In other countries such as the United States and Europe, it occurs in various areas such as housing, commerce, and culture, but in Korea, it occurs in most commercial areas. In addition, the resulting social problems are also very serious, and the pace of occurrence and progress is also very fast. The present study was conducted on Korean cities, especially local cities where gentrification occurred due to the government's urban regeneration project. A system was established to analyze the occurrence phenomenon from a supply perspective and a demand perspective, and to synthesize them to predict the stages that proceed when gentrification occurs by period. Through this, it will be possible to observe and predict gentrification phenomena and respond in advance. Article Cost-Benefit Analysis of Introducing Custom-Made Small Thermal-Frictional Sterilization System to the Existing Hospital Waste Disposal System: A Case Study of Chinese Hospital This manuscript proposes an integrated system for treating hospital solid waste (H.S.W.) consisting of an incineration and frictional sterilization system capable of operating during normal and emergency situations. We analyzed the benefits of integrating different hospital solid waste (H.S.W.) treatment systems with the existing stand-alone incineration system, with a particular emphasis on the thermal friction sterilization integration system. The objective was to define the economic advantages and benefits in terms of resources recovery of using the thermal frictional sterilization-incineration integrated system during the hospital's normal and emergency/pandemic operating conditions. We modeled three modeling scenarios based on normal and emergency operating conditions. The results show that the H.S.W. was composed of 74% general H.S.W. Existing incineration systems would be the most expensive process because the sanitary transportation cost represented approximately 96% of the H.S.W. costs. The hospital would realize 40-61% savings relative to the existing method if the integrated incineration-frictional systems were implemented to treat 50-70% of H.S.W.; the savings were better than in other scenarios. Proposed scenario 3 had a much better resources recovery factor than scenarios 1 and 2. This modeling study showed that a thermal frictional sterilization-incineration system could work well even under emergency conditions if the H.S.W. in-house sorting/transportation/storage process is modified to cater to other H.S.W. treatment/sterilization systems. Article Design of Robust Fuzzy Logic Controller Based on Gradient Descent Algorithm with Parallel-Resonance Type Fault Current Limiter for Grid-Tied PV System This article demonstrates a new topology for optimization of the electrical variables and enhancement of low-voltage-ride-through (LVRT) capacity of a grid-tied photovoltaic system (PS) during asymmetrical faults. The proposed topology comprises a fuzzy-logic controller (FLC) based on gradient descent (GD) optimization in association with parallel-resonance-type fault current limiter (PRFCL) as an LVRT circuitry. Gradient descent is an iterative process to minimize the objective function by updating the variable in the opposite direction of the gradient of the objective function. The PRFCL optimizes the fault variables, specifically preventing voltage sag without any transitional spikes. A 100-kW detailed model of grid-tied PS is used in MATLAB/Simulink to analyze the response of the proposed topology at the point of common coupling (PCC) and PV side variables. A keen comparative study of the conventionally adopted proportional-integral (PI) controller in association with crowbar circuitry is carried out for the justification of the proposed topology. The simulation findings of the proposed topology authenticate the optimal response of variables in terms of stability, robustness, smoothness, and fault tolerance at both the grid side and the PV side. Article Diffusion bonding at the interface of Bi2Te3 thermoelectric modules In production of Bi2Te3-based thermoelectric modules, Bi2Te3 materials were coated with electroless nickel (EN), electroless palladium, and immersion gold multilayers to suppress unanticipated interfacial reactions between Bi2Te3 and Sn-based solder alloys. However, the coating elements reacted with the solder alloys to yield intermetallic compounds (IMCs) at the Bi2Te3/solder and solder/Cu electrode interfaces. Significant Cu content from the Cu electrodes contributed to the IMCs along with to the coating and Sn elements. In this study, the influence of IMC composition on bonding strength and the characteristics of the Bi2Te3-based material/Cu electrode interface was investigated. An EN layer was plated onto Cu electrodes to suppress Cu diffusion from the electrodes into the solder alloy. IMCs mainly consisted of Sn and Cu elements in the case of uncoated Cu electrodes. When Cu electrodes were coated by the EN layer, Ni and Sn content prevailed in IMC composition. Additionally, IMCs at both the Bi2Te3/solder and solder/Cu electrode interfaces with Cu or Pd were thicker than those without Cu or Pd. Meanwhile, the bonding strength of the Bi2Te3-based material/Cu electrode interface with the EN layer on the Cu electrodes was lower than that of the interfaces without the EN layer. Article Eco-Economic Performance Estimation Method for Pretensioned Spun High-Strength Concrete Pile Installation Pile installation has an environmental impact through its various processes ranging from raw material extraction to construction. In addition, the environmental performance, productivity, and cost of pile installation depend on the construction plan. Therefore, the chain of activities must be considered when analyzing the sustainability of pile installation. A rational construction plan must carefully examine the factors that affect the productivity and sustainability of pile installations. This study presents a method for evaluating eco-economic performance by analyzing the resource utilization and processes of PHC pile installation. First, a process modeling technique, wherein details are broken down to the work task level, based on energy consumption and resource cost, is proposed. Second, a simulation method that calculates the eco-economic performance of the PHC pile process and resources (e.g., equipment) is presented. Third, a quantitative comparison of durations, costs, and emissions resulting from simulation, estimation based on the CSPR (Construction Standard Production Rate) and IUC (Itemized Unit Cost), site contract, and actual construction is presented. The results reveal that the method effectively reflects the prediction of duration, cost, and carbon emissions generated in the real world during the construction planning stage. Article Emotional Labor, Rapport, and Word of Mouth in Fitness Organizations The fitness service industry requires employees to interact with members, placing great importance on their emotional expression to manage service quality and the subsequent organizational outcomes. Emotional labor may be a significant psychologically related factor that plays a critical role in building pleasant interactions between a fitness organization's employees and its members. Thus, grounded in the emotional contagion theory, this study examines the predictability of perceived emotional labor strategies on the development of a rapport between a fitness organization's employees and its members, and the subsequent effect of this rapport on word of mouth regarding the fitness organization. A total of 353 fitness members in the United States participated in the modified versions of paper-and-pencil surveys pertaining to the proposed variables. The findings showed that perceived surface acting, or superficial interaction, is negatively related to rapport, whereas perceived deep acting, a more profound form of interaction, is positively related to rapport. Furthermore, rapport was positively associated with word of mouth. This result indicates the significance of emotional labor in the service delivery of fitness employees and developing a positive relationship with fitness members. Article Ergonomic Risk Assessment of Aluminum Form Workers' Musculoskeletal Disorder at Construction Workstations Using Simulation This study analyzes an existing scenario of musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) associated with the ergonomic hazard of the aluminum formwork workstation and its workers. Aluminum form-workers have increasing evidence of MSDs from repetitive tasks such as the adjustment, alignment of pins, pulling, pushing, and installation of panels, because of the cumulative exposure to ergonomic risks. Existing research indicates that this is due to insufficient expertise, form-worker awareness, and a complex construction plan. Using the Tecnomatix process simulate, this study aims to identify awkward postures during the process of lifting, assembling, and installing formwork to quantify MSDs and assess the ergonomic risk of aluminum form-workers and provide simple solutions. This simulation method makes use of input data from a random sample of 92 participants retrieved from four construction sites. The Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA), Ovako Working Analysis System (OWAS) scores, and Energy Expenditure Rate (EER) for three identified awkward cases were determined to be unsatisfactory, unsafe, and acceptable with suggested alternatives. The ergonomic scores correspond to various bodily stresses, allowing workers to better understand which body parts experience major stress when performing manual jobs. The suggested integrated preventive ergonomics system reduces MSDs and improves how people interact with their surroundings. Article Essential Oil Composition of Aerial Part of Pluchea ovalis (Pers.) DC., Silver Nanoparticles Synthesis, and Larvicidal Activities against Fall Armyworm In this study, essential oil of the aerial part of Pluchea ovalis (POEO) was isolated and employed for the synthesis of AgNPs (POEO-AgNPs). Then, larvicidal activities of POEO and PEO-AgNPs were evaluated against the larvae of fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiderda (J. E. Smith); (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). The potential medicinal values of P. ovalis and the lack of scientific reports on the applications of essential oils and nanoparticles of the plant species from the ecology of Ethiopia motivated the authors to carry out this research activity. The hydrodistillation technique was used for the isolation of POEO. Characterization of samples was done using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and zeta nanoanalyzer instruments. GC/MS analysis showed that sesquiterpenes (91.27%) are the dominant chemical constituents of POEO. The characteristic UV-Vis spectra absorption of POEO-AgNPs is observed at 428 nm. SEM imaging reveals that POEO-AgNPs have a dominantly spherical shape. A strong peak of EDX at 3.0 keV shows the existence of Ag element in POEO-AgNPs. XRD analysis determines the diffraction peaks of POEO-AgNPs at 2 theta of 38.2 degrees, 44.1 degrees, 64.6 degrees, and 77.8 degrees which are indexed to (111), (200), (220), and (311), respectively. The average particle size and surface potential of POEO-AgNPs are 132 nm and -64.7 mV, respectively. POEO-AgNPs were stored at room temperature and 4 degrees C and showed good stability for about 6 months without aggregation or dissolution. The larvicidal activity was tested at 500, 250, and 125 mu g/mL of POEO solution and 100% (full strength = 0.083 g/mL), 50%, and 25% POEO-AgNPs solution against 2(nd) instar larvae of S. frugiderda for 3 consecutive days. LC50 and LC90 are determined as 154.88 and 11,749.00 mu g/mL for POEO and 69.18 and 1318.26% for POEO-AgNPs solutions, respectively. This finding will benefit the applications of POEO and POEO-AgNPs for a sustainable eco-friendly crop pest management method. The potential energy due to this difference in water level is converted into kinetic energy, causing high-velocity flow and hydraulic jumps in the river. As a result, problems such as scouring and sloping downstream may occur around the hydraulic structures. In this study, a FLOW-3D model was constructed to perform a numerical analysis of the Changnyeong-Haman weir in the Republic of Korea. The constructed model was verified based on surface velocity measurements from a field gate operation experiment. In the simulation results, the flow discharge differed from the measured value by 9-15 m(3)/s, from which the accuracy was evaluated to be 82-87%. The flow velocity was evaluated with an accuracy of 92% from a difference of 0.01 to 0.16 m/s. Following this verification, a flow analysis of the hydraulic structures was performed according to boundary conditions and operation conditions for numerous scenarios. Since 2018, the Changnyeong-Haman weir gate has been fully opened due to the implementation of Korea's eco-environmental policy; therefore, in this study, the actual gate operation history data prior to 2018 was applied and evaluated. The evaluation conditions were a 50% open gate condition and the flow discharge of two cases with a large difference in water level. As a result of the analysis, the actual operating conditions showed that the velocity and the Froude number were lower than the optimal conditions, confirming that the selected design was appropriate. It was also found that in the bed protection section, the average flow velocity was high when the water level difference was large, whereas the bottom velocity was high when the gate opening was large. Ultimately, through the reviewed status survey data in this study, the downstream flow characteristics of hydraulic structures along with adequacy verification techniques, optimal design techniques such as procedures for design, and important considerations were derived. Based on the current results, the constructed FLOW-3D-based model can be applied to creating or updating flow analysis guidelines for future repair and reinforcement measures as well as hydraulic structure design. Article Geospatial Analysis with Landsat Series and Sentinel-3B OLCI Satellites to Assess Changes in Land Use and Water Quality over Time in Brazil Geospatial analyses have gained fundamental importance on a global scale following emphasis on sustainability. Here we geospatially analyze images from Landsat 2/5/7/8 satellites captured during 1975 to 2020 in order to determine changes in land use. Sentinel-3B OLCI (Ocean Land Color Instrument) images obtained in 2019 and 2021 were utilized to assess water resources, based on water turbidity levels (TSMNN), suspended pollution potential (ADG₄₄₃NN) and the presence of chlorophyll-a (CHLNN) in order to temporally monitor the effectiveness of Brazilian legislation currently in force. This work on sustainability standards was applied to a hydrographic basin dedicated to agricultural production located in southern Brazil. Satellite images from Landsat 2/5/7/8 (1975 to 2020) and Sentinel-3B OLCI (2019 and 2021) revealed that changes in land use, vegetation cover and water in the Capingui Dam reservoir detected high concentrations of ADG₄₄₃NN (3830 m(-1)), CHLNN (20,290 mg m(-3)) and TSMNN (100 gm(-3)). These results can alert the population to the risks to public health and harm to hydrographic preservation, capable of covering large regions. Review History and Future Challenges of Roadkill Research in South Korea Roadkill has been one of the most problematic issues with wildlife under urbanization. South Korea, one of the fastest industrializing countries in the world, has been affected by the same roadkill issues and has researched how to mitigate wildlife-vehicle collisions (WVCs). In the present study, we aimed to (i) review scientific studies concerning roadkill conducted in South Korea (51 domestic, 15 international papers, 19 reports, and 1 thesis), (ii) compare bibliographic networks between international and South Korean roadkill studies, and (iii) discuss future challenges. From a search in the core collection of Web of Science peer-reviewed papers published from 1992 to 2022, keywords were extracted to create a bibliometric visualization map, using VOSviewer. Among the 85 articles related to WVCs, those about eco-corridors have steadily increased since 1998, while mitigation system and roadkill articles have been published since the mid-2000s. With increased awareness, more systems have been established, and research related to WVCs has been increasingly established. Currently, there are two systematic roadkill monitoring systems in South Korea, and an increasing number of modeling studies have suggested where roadkill hotspots are located. How to mitigate roadkill incidents has also been explored. A comparison of associations between international and Korean research shows that the network structures of Korean society were more disconnected and less dispersed. In addition, the keywords were narrower than those used in studies from the international community. Although studies on landscape connectivity and road ecology are few, their number and scope in South Korea have increased and broadened. These studies could be more rapidly developed in the future as some systems are equipped. Article Implementation of the LADM-Based Cadastral Model for Mongolia towards Transition to a 3D Cadastre Most countries have considered the adoption of the international standard ISO 19152-Land Administration Domain Model (LADM) mostly for the improvement of their cadastral systems in the context of developing the 3D cadastre. However, the adoption of LADM is yet to be considered in Mongolia. The aim of the study is to create an LADM-based cadastral data model-Country profile for Mongolia, presenting how the standard can be tailored to the cadastral systems based on an understanding of current legal and systematic requirements. We conducted this study by taking steps to understand the current cadastral system in Mongolia, the implementation of the LADM Country profile, and the LADM conformance test for the developed model. The LADM Country profile has been created based on two parts-Administrative and Spatial. The developed country profile conformed to all classes from the low and medium levels and several classes from the high level of the Abstract Test Suite provided by the standard. In addition, we provide object-instance diagrams to help understand how the developed model can be applied to real situations. The study results will be used when considering the adoption of the standard and moving towards fulfilling modern cadastral requirements (e.g., multi-dimensional cadastres) in Mongolia.
