| ○ | Article | Evaluation of Filter Press Performance for Extracting Lignin from Acid-based Black Liquor; [산성 흑액 내 리그닌 분리를 위한 필터프레스 성능 평가] | Lignin, extracted from the black liquor of the pulping process, is one of abundant renewable biopolymers and is considered a potential alternative to petroleum-based compounds. Currently, research focusing on the utilization of technical lignin is increasing, leading to a growing demand for lignin for commercial applications. Therefore, research on efficient dehydration to obtain lignin from black liquor with a simple pretreatment process is essential. This study used fast and simple mechanical dehydration in a filter press as an alternative to efficiently isolate lignin from black liquor. An acidic black liquor was used as the feedstock, which does not require a pH adjustment process, unlike the alkaline black liquor coming out of the kraft pulping process. As a result, a high degree of lignin purity (87.2‒89.2%) can be extracted, which is comparable to technical lignin. Furthermore, the molecular weight and polydispersity of the extracted lignin are constant, regardless of whether it is washed, which supports the performance of the filter press and filter cloth used in this study to produce homogeneous lignin. These findings demonstrate the potential of the filter press dewatering process for commercial-scale lignin production. © 2025 Korean Technical Assoc. of the Pulp and Paper Industry. | ○ | Article | Evaluation of Land Surface Temperature Orthophoto Generation using Thermal Infrared Video Stream from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles; [무인 항공기의 열적외선 영상 스트림을 이용한 지표면 온도 정사영상 생성 평가] | This study developed LST (Land Surface Temperature) orthophotos using a TIR (Thermal Infrared) sensor mounted on an UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and evaluated the accuracy based on ground data measured with a laser thermometer. Unlike traditional single-image methods, continuous data were collected through TIR video recording, enabling a more precise reflection of land surface temperature. Results from July and August 2023 showed an average temperature difference of 1.21℃ and 0.49℃ between the TIR sensor and the laser thermometer, respectively, which falls within the Zenmuse XT2’s accuracy range of ±5℃ or ±5%. Materials that absorb significant heat, such as asphalt and urethane, exhibited larger temperature differences, while marble and vegetation showed relatively smaller differences. Compared to traditional photogrammetry, TIR video recording reduced battery consumption, improving UAV flight time and data collection efficiency. © 2025 Korean Society of Surveying. | ○ | Article | Evaluation of the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities of Kadsura verrucosa (Gagnep.) A.C.Sm. extract through the regulation of the NF-κB signaling pathway; [Kadsura verrucosa (Gagnep.) A.C.Sm. 추출물의 NF-κB 신호전달 경로 조절을 통한 항염증 및 항산화능 평가] | The genus Kadsura is traditionally used in Chinese folk medicine for its beneficial effects including anti-inflammatory properties. However, the anti-inflammatory effects of Kadsura verrucosa have not yet been demonstrated. In this study, we aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory potential of Kadsura verrucosa (Gagnep.) A.C.Sm. extract (KVE) by pre-treating RAW 264.7 macrophage cells with KVE before stimulating them with 1 μg/mL Escherichia coli (O111:B4)derived LPS. In Raw 264.7 cells, KVE significantly inhibited LPS-induced nitric oxide (NO) production without cytotoxicity. KVE also significantly suppressed the expression of LPS-induced pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in RAW 264.7 cells. Furthermore, KVE downregulated the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) by inhibiting the phosphorylation of I kappa B kinase (IKK), I kappa B alpha (IκBα), and p65. Additionally, KVE reduced LPS-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) in a dose-dependent manner. These findings suggest that KVE is a promising candidate for health functional food materials with anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects. © 2025 The Korean Society of Food Science and Technology. | ○ | Article | Evaluation of the grip strength of Korean female hair designers and the usability of a smart IoT grip strength measuring device | In this study, we compared the grip strength of female hair designers and female college students using a smart IoT grip strength measuring device and conducted a usability evaluation of the smart IoT grip strength measuring device. The subjects of the study were 30 female hair designers and 27 female college students in their 20s. Of these, 23 participated in the user evaluation. The maximum grip strength of the right and left hands was measured using a smart IoT grip strength measuring device (Soundbody, Korea). The user evaluation consisted of a total of 3 questions on a 5-point scale, including ease of installation of the IoT device, satisfaction with the user interface and interaction with the IoT device, and evaluation of the reliability and performance of the IoT device. As a result of the study, user evaluations of smart IoT grippers showed some dissatisfaction with the ease of installation of smart devices. Still, many positive responses were received regarding the user interface, interaction, reliability, and performance. In this study, the grip strength of the right hand was higher than that of the left hand of the subjects, and the grip strength of hair designers was lower than that of female college students. There was no difference in the right hand of hair designers compared to college students, but the grip strength of the left hand decreased by 66.3%. Frequent upper extremity workers with low loads appear to have low grip strength. © 2025 by the authors. | Lee, Young Hee; Kim, Jeong Eun; Lee, Hyo Taek | Department of Beauty and Health Management, Youngsan University, South Korea; Department of Preventive Dentistry, School of Dentistry, Kyungpook National University, South Korea; Department of AI & Big Data, Sehan University, South Korea | 59695894500; 59333013900; 59332939100 | take1682@sehan.ac.kr; | International Journal of Innovative Research and Scientific Studies | 2617-6548 | 8 | 2 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | Female; Grip strength; Hair designer; Smart IoT grip strength; Usability | English | Final | 2025 | 10.53894/ijirss.v8i2.5200 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||||||||

| ○ | ○ | Proceedings Paper | Exploiting Omega Network and Inexact Accumulative Parallel Counter to Enhance Energy Efficiency in Stochastic Computing | Stochastic computing (SC) has garnered a great interest due to its energy efficiency and robustness against external noise, yet a long latency on stochastic computations and considerable overheads caused by conversions between binary numbers and stochastic numbers persist as notable challenges. This paper introduces a novel parallel random number generator (RNG) and accumulative parallel counters (APCs) to address both challenges. In particular, we propose a new parallel RNG design based on Omega network to bolster the randomness of generated numbers, thereby enhancing accuracy and reducing latency. Additionally, we introduce a novel APC design technique leveraging approximate 4-2 compressors to improve hardware efficiency while preserving the accuracy of SC computations. When implemented using a 65-nm CMOS technology, our proposed SC architecture outperforms other SC alternatives in terms of both hardware efficiency and computation accuracy. Specifically, our APC designs exhibit substantial enhancements of up to 30.1x, 26.6x, 5.9x, and 151x in area, power, delay, and energy, respectively, compared to traditional APCs. Also, we validate the efficacy of the proposed SC design through an image processing application, demonstrating superior processing quality alongside significantly enhanced hardware efficiency. | Lee, Donghui; Kim, Yongtae | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Comp Sci & Engn, Daegu, South Korea | 57266466900; 55699627900 | thebock12@knu.ac.kr; yongtae@knu.ac.kr; | 40TH ANNUAL ACM SYMPOSIUM ON APPLIED COMPUTING | 0 | 2025-06-11 | 1 | 1 | Stochastic computing; Omega network; random number generator (RNG); accumulative parallel counter (APC); approximate compressor; energy efficiency | accumulative parallel counter (APC); approximate compressor; energy efficiency; omega network; random number generator (RNG); stochastic computing | Digital arithmetic; Fuzzy logic; Integrated circuit design; Optical flows; Sequential machines; Stochastic systems; Turing machines; Accumulative parallel counter; Approximate compressor; Energy; Hardware efficiency; Omega networks; Parallel counters; Parallel random number generator; Random number generator; Random number generators; Stochastic computing; Random number generation | English | 2025 | 2025 | 10.1145/3672608.3707746 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Exploring the EM-only hypothesis | Lee, Kyoungmi. 2025. Exploring the EM-only hypothesis. Linguistic Research 42(1): 141-167. This study critically examines Kitahara and Seely's (2024) proposal for deriving the Duality of Semantics & horbar;the distinction between propositional and clausal domains & horbar; through a strengthened version of Minimal Yield (MY) and a expanded definition of Accessibility. Their framework, refining Chomsky's (2023a) box system, eliminates the IM occurs only once to delineate the two thought domains. While this approach reduces reliance on stipulative distinctions, it raises some conceptual challenges, including the fixed composition of the workspace (WS), the necessity of IM, and look-ahead problems inherent in finite WS configurations. To address these issues, we propose an EM-only system that eliminates IM entirely, thereby simplifying derivation while adhering to minimalist principle. In this system, both arguments and non-arguments are introduced via EM, remaining accessible to phase heads for interface interpretation. By employing dynamic lexical selection during derivation, this approach avoids look-ahead problems and aligns with the Markovian property of syntactic computation, which excludes reliance on prior stages of derivation. The EM-only system, independent of IM, offers a simpler, more parsimonious framework for syntactic theory while maintaining the capacity to account for diverse syntactic phenomena. Proposed lepton collider experiments, such as the electron-positron Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee) and the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC), aim to investigate the properties of the Higgs boson, explore the origin of mass, and examine the Higgs mechanism, all of which require high-resolution energy measurements. The dual-readout calorimeter (DRC) combines Cherenkov and scintillation light to achieve precise measurements of both electromagnetic and hadronic energies. Within this context, the Korea Future Collider Dual-REAdout Method (KFC-DREAM) calorimeter collaboration has developed a novel calorimeter module that integrates a liquid scintillator with a water Cherenkov detector, tested using cosmic rays. This paper presents the experimental results from the liquid scintillator and water Cherenkov calorimeters. © 2025 Korean Physical Society. | ○ | Article | Facile Crosslinking of Hardwood Kraft Lignin for Sustainable Bio-Based Wood Adhesives | As the most abundant aromatic bio-based polymer, lignin has great potential as a sustainable feedstock for building crosslinked thermoset polymers as bio-based adhesives. However, the potential of hardwood kraft lignin (HKL) is limited due to its poor crosslinking reactivity. Hence, for the first time, the present study reports the facile oxidation of HKL involving a redox reaction with silver-ammonia complexes ([(AgNH3)2 ]+), primarily focusing on oxidation to produce reactive quinones and promote C–C linkages during reaction. This study aims to increases reactivity of oxidized HKL for effective crosslinking with monoethanolamine (MEA) for the development of bio-based wood adhesives. The characterization, including13 C-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, confirms the oxidation reaction, such as the formation of quinones (C=O) and subsequent crosslinking between the oxidized HKL molecules and MEA. Additionally, gel permeation chromatography (GPC) confirms the C–C and C–O linkages with increased molecular weight after oxidation, and is supported by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) which shows the exothermic reaction due to the crosslinking of the oxidized HKL molecules via condensation to form C–C and C–O linkages. The crosslinked HKL/MEA-based adhesives underwent mild reaction and achieved a maximum dry shear strength of 0.77 MPa, which exceeds the standard requirement of 0.6 MPa. These findings demonstrate not only a one-pot oxidation for improving the reactivity of HKL using silver complexes, but also its facile crosslinking with MEA for sustainable bio-based wood adhesives. © 2025 The Authors. | ○ | Article | Factors Affecting Posttraumatic Growth of Nurses Caring for Patients with COVID-19 in Regional Medical Centers | Purpose: This study investigates the factors affecting Posttraumatic Growth (PTG) among nurses providing care for patients with COVID-19 in regional medical centers. Methods: A total of 170 nurses from D, P, and G regional medical centers participated in this study. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires from March 16 to March 31, 2023. IBM SPSS Statistics 27 was used for data analysis, including descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis. Results: Statistically significant differences in PTG were observed based on gender, religion, and experience in caring for patients with emerging infectious diseases. PTG was significantly correlated with resilience, social support, and deliberate rumination. Resilience (β=.22, p=.003), social support (β=.18, p=.012), and deliberate rumination (β=.46, p<.001) were identified as factors influencing the posttraumatic growth of the participants. These variables accounted for 50.1% (F=29.33, p<.001) of the variances in PTG. Conclusion: The findings of this study demonstrate the necessity of developing intervention and counseling programs aimed at enhancing deliberate rumination, resilience, and social support to promote PTG among nurses caring for patients with emerging infectious diseases. © 2025 Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing. | Bae, Jaehwa; Choi, Eun Suk | Nurse, Daegu Medical Center, Daegu, South Korea; College of Nursing, Research Institute of Nursing Innovation, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea | 59726262400; 59860553600 | eschoi2007@knu.ac.kr; | Research in Community and Public Health Nursing | 2983-0648 | 36 | 1 | 0 | 2025-05-07 | 0 | COVID-19; Posttraumatic growth; Resilience; Rumination; Social support | English | Final | 2025 | 10.12799/rcphn.2024.00703 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 |
