| ○ | Article | Pulse shape analysis of LiI:Tl crystal scintillators | The LiI:Tl crystal is a candidate for thermal neutron measurements and rare event searches due to the advantage of the lithium and iodide isotopes in its composition. This study shows the pulse shape discrimination (PSD) capability of thermal neutron irradiation. Particle discrimination is essential for improving neutron measurement and rare event searches to reduce unwanted backgrounds. To investigate the pulse-shape characteristics of LiI:Tl crystals with different radiations, digital analysis of pulse shape has been considered. The raw pulses were fitted with a suitable pulse form. The fitted pulses were studied in both the time and frequency domains which improve the Figure-of-Merit over the charge comparison methods. Our results show the change of PSD for LiI:Tl crystals with different Thallium concentrations. The surface effect is discussed, and other related scintillation characteristics were also studied. © 2023 Elsevier B.V. | Luan, Nguyen Thanh; Vuong, Phan Quoc; Ton, Nguyen Duc; Kim, H.J. | Department of Physics, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea; Department of Physics, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea; Department of Physics, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea; Department of Physics, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea | 57210576969; 57207618553; 57966935300; 59051568100 | hongjoo@knu.ac.kr; | Optical Materials | OPT MATER | 0925-3467 | 1873-1252 | 140 | SCIE | MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;OPTICS | 2023 | 3.8 | 23.9 | 0.29 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | Decay time; Digital analysis; LiI:Tl scintillator; Non-proportionality; Pusle shape discrimination; Thermal neutron | Crystals; Neutron detectors; Neutron irradiation; Neutrons; Scintillation counters; Decay time; Digital analysis; LiI:tl scintillator; Neutron measurements; Nonproportionality; Pulse shape analysis; Pulse shape discrimination; Pusle shape discrimination; Shape discrimination; Thermal neutrons; Lithium compounds | English | Final | 2023 | 10.1016/j.optmat.2023.113874 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Review | Role of Macrophage lncRNAs in Mediating Inflammatory Processes in Atherosclerosis and Sepsis | Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are molecules >200 bases in length without protein-coding functions implicated in signal transduction and gene expression regulation via interaction with proteins or RNAs, exhibiting various functions. The expression of lncRNAs has been detected in many cell types, including macrophages, a type of immune cell involved in acute and chronic inflammation, removal of dead or damaged cells, and tissue repair. Increasing evidence indicates that lncRNAs play essential roles in macrophage functions and disease development. Additionally, many animal studies have reported that blockage or modulation of lncRNA functions alleviates disease severity or morbidity rate. The present review summarizes the current knowledge regarding lncRNAs expressed in macrophages, focusing on their molecular targets and the biological processes regulated by them during the development of inflammatory diseases such as atherosclerosis and sepsis. Possible application of this information to lncRNA-targeting therapy is also discussed. The studies regarding macrophage lncRNAs described in this review can help provide valuable information for developing treatments for various pathological conditions involving macrophages. | Shin, Hyeung-Seob; Shin, Jae-Joon; Park, Jeongkwang; Arab, Imene; Suk, Kyoungho; Lee, Won-Ha | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Life Sci, BK21 Plus KNU Creat Biores Grp, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Pharmacol Brain Sci & Engn Inst, Sch Med, BK21 Plus KNU Biomed Convergence Program, Daegu 41944, South Korea | 58663723700; 58662949200; 58663723600; 58663912800; 7005114595; 57205609794 | gudals3963@naver.com;wowns1124@knu.ac.kr;wjdrhkd28787@gmail.com;arabimene07@gmail.com;ksuk@knu.ac.kr;whl@knu.ac.kr; | BIOMEDICINES | BIOMEDICINES | 2227-9059 | 11 | 7 | SCIE | BIOCHEMISTRY & MOLECULAR BIOLOGY;MEDICINE, RESEARCH & EXPERIMENTAL;PHARMACOLOGY & PHARMACY | 2023 | 3.9 | 23.9 | 0.3 | 2025-06-25 | 3 | 4 | atherosclerosis; inflammation; lncRNA; macrophage; sepsis; therapeutic targets | FOAM CELL-FORMATION; CHOLESTEROL EFFLUX; RNA; MALAT1; PROLIFERATION; ASSOCIATION; PROGRESSION; EXPRESSION; PATHWAY; AXIS | atherosclerosis; inflammation; lncRNA; macrophage; sepsis; therapeutic targets | English | 2023 | 2023-07 | 10.3390/biomedicines11071905 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Structural and visible fluorescence traits of Dy³⁺ ion activated Lu1.5Y1.5Al5O12 phosphors | In the current work, a series of Lu1.5Y1.5Al5O12 (LuYAG) phosphors doped with different Dy3+ ion concentrations (0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 at% in nominal) have been synthesized by high-temperature solid-phase approach and characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, optical absorption, emission, and decay lifetimes. The shape and position of Dy3+ ion absorption peaks were consistent in all samples, and the absorption peak intensity increased with enhancing Dy3+ concentration. Under lambda exci. = 448 nm, F-4(9/2 )-> H-6(15/2), 13/2, 11/2, 9/2 emission transitions have been identified in which the F-4(9/2)-> H-6(13/2) transition possesses the highest intensity. Luminescence decay times were evaluated for Dy3+: F-4(9/2) level. Relying on the absorption and luminescence spectra, along with fluores-cence decay patterns, the optimal doping concentration of 1 at% was identified. The energy transfer process between Dy-Dy ions was discussed and utilized to explain the concentration quenching phenomenon. Notably, 1 at% Dy: LuYAG could be used as a potential candidate for commercial yellow phosphors. | Yang, Jiaxue; Wang, Yan; Lakshminarayana, G.; Zhu, Zhaojie; You, Zhenyu; Li, Jianfu; Tu, Chaoyang; Lee, Dong-Eun; Yoon, Jonghun; Park, Taejoon | Fuzhou Univ, Coll Chem, Fuzhou 350116, Fujian, Peoples R China; Chinese Acad Sci, Fujian Inst Res Struct Matter, Key Lab Optoelect Mat Chem & Phys, Fuzhou 350002, Fujian, Peoples R China; Mindu Innovat Lab, Fujian Sci & Technol Innovat Lab Optoelect Informa, Fuzhou 350108, Fujian, Peoples R China; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Intelligent Construct Automat Ctr, 80, Daehak ro, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Architecture Civil Environm & Energy, 1370, Sangyeok dong, Daegu 702701, South Korea; Hanyang Univ, ACE Ctr, Dept Mech Engn, BK21 FOUR ERICA, 55, Hanyangdaehak Ro, Ansan 15588, Gyeonggi, South Korea; Hanyang Univ, Dept Robot Engn, 55 Hanyangdaehak ro, Ansan 15588, Gyeonggi, South Korea | 57552376500; 55992327100; 57194637883; 7404803891; 7102207842; 8643618700; 55543060400; 56605563300; 56449838900; 55717001200 | wy@fjirsm.ac.cn;gandham@knu.ac.kr;dolee@knu.ac.kr;yooncsmd@gmail.com;taejoon@hanyang.ac.kr; | OPTICAL MATERIALS | OPT MATER | 0925-3467 | 1873-1252 | 135 | SCIE | MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;OPTICS | 2023 | 3.8 | 23.9 | 0.58 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 4 | LuYAG phosphor; Dy3+; TEM; Luminescence aspects; Cross-relaxation; CIE chromaticity Coordinates | WHITE-LIGHT EMISSION; ENERGY-TRANSFER; PHOTOLUMINESCENCE PROPERTIES; LUMINESCENCE; RE; SM; ER | CIE chromaticity Coordinates; Cross-relaxation; Dy3+; Luminescence aspects; LuYAG phosphor; TEM | Aluminum compounds; Energy dispersive spectroscopy; Energy transfer; Fluorescence; High resolution transmission electron microscopy; Ions; Light absorption; Light transmission; Lutetium compounds; Phosphors; Scanning electron microscopy; Synthesis (chemical); 'current; Absorption peaks; Chromaticity coordinates; CIE chromaticity; CIE chromaticity coordinate; Crossrelaxation; Dy3+; Luminescence aspect; LuYAG phosphor; TEM; Dysprosium compounds | English | 2023 | 2023-01 | 10.1016/j.optmat.2022.113253 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Survival Benefit after Shifting from Upfront Surgery to Neoadjuvant Treatment in Borderline Resectable Pancreatic Cancer | According to the 2016 National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines, patients with borderline resectable pancreatic cancer (BRPC) should receive chemotherapy as the first-line treatment. This study examined the real-world survival benefits of modifying BRPC treatment guidelines. Patients treated for BRPC at a single institution from 2013 to 2015 (pre-guideline group) and 2017 to 2019 (post-guideline group) were retrospectively reviewed. According to the treatment method used, patients were classified into upfront surgery (US), surgery after neoadjuvant treatment (NAT), and chemotherapy only (CO) groups. Overall survival (OS) was compared according to period and treatment type. Factors associated with OS were analyzed using a Cox regression model. Among the 165 patients, 63 were in the pre-guideline group and 102 patients were in the post-guideline group. The median OS was significantly improved in the post-guideline group compared to the pre-guideline group (29 vs. 13 months, p < 0.001). According to the treatment method, the median OS of the NAT group was significantly longer than that of the US and CO groups (40 vs. 16 vs. 15 months, respectively, p < 0.001). In multivariate analysis, tumor size, differentiation, NAT, and perineural invasion were significant prognostic factors. NAT is an important treatment option for BRPC and increased patient survival in the real world. | Jeon, Hyun Jeong; Lim, Soo Yeun; Jeong, Hyejeong; Yoon, So Jeong; Kim, Hongbeom; Shin, Sang Hyun; Heo, Jin Seok; Han, In Woong | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Chilgok Hosp, Sch Med, Dept Surg,Div Hepatobiliary Pancreat Surg, Daegu 41404, South Korea; Sungkyunkwan Univ, Div Hepatobiliary Pancreat Surg, Dept Surg, Samsung Med Ctr,Sch Med, Seoul, South Korea | 57266297900; 58045953600; 58045569500; 57219111679; 57103962000; 36109355100; 7102832040; 55263662100 | cardioman76@gmail.com; | BIOMEDICINES | BIOMEDICINES | 2227-9059 | 11 | 8 | SCIE | BIOCHEMISTRY & MOLECULAR BIOLOGY;MEDICINE, RESEARCH & EXPERIMENTAL;PHARMACOLOGY & PHARMACY | 2023 | 3.9 | 23.9 | 0.34 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 2 | borderline resectable pancreatic cancer; neoadjuvant treatment; upfront surgery | INTERNATIONAL STUDY-GROUP; DUCTAL ADENOCARCINOMA; THERAPY; GEMCITABINE; DEFINITION; FOLFIRINOX; INVASION; CHEMOTHERAPY; CONSENSUS; OUTCOMES | borderline resectable pancreatic cancer; neoadjuvant treatment; upfront surgery | English | 2023 | 2023-08 | 10.3390/biomedicines11082302 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Tat-GSTpi Inhibits Dopaminergic Cells against MPP⁺-Induced Cellular Damage via the Reduction of Oxidative Stress and MAPK Activation | Glutathione S-transferase pi (GSTpi) is a member of the GST family and plays many critical roles in cellular processes, including anti-oxidative and signal transduction. However, the role of anti-oxidant enzyme GSTpi against dopaminergic neuronal cell death has not been fully investigated. In the present study, we investigated the roles of cell permeable Tat-GSTpi fusion protein in a SH-SY5Y cell and a Parkinson's disease (PD) mouse model. In the 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+)-exposed cells, Tat-GSTpi protein decreased DNA damage and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. Furthermore, this fusion protein increased cell viability by regulating MAPKs, Bcl-2, and Bax signaling. In addition, Tat-GSTpi protein delivered into the substantia nigra (SN) of mice brains protected dopaminergic neuronal cell death in the 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced PD animal model. Our results indicate that the Tat-GSTpi protein inhibited cell death from MPP+- and MPTP-induced damage, suggesting that it plays a protective role during the loss of dopaminergic neurons in PD and that it could help to identify the mechanism responsible for neurodegenerative diseases, including PD. | Choi, Yeon Joo; Yeo, Hyeon Ji; Shin, Min Jea; Youn, Gi Soo; Park, Jung Hwan; Yeo, Eun Ji; Kwon, Hyun Jung; Lee, Lee Re; Kim, Na Yeon; Kwon, Su Yeon; Kim, Su Min; Kim, Dae Won; Jung, Hyo Young; Kwon, Oh-Shin; Lee, Chan Hee; Park, Jong Kook; Lee, Keun Wook; Han, Kyu Hyung; Park, Jinseu; Eum, Won Sik; Choi, Soo Young | Hallym Univ, Res Inst Biosci & Biotechnol, Dept Biomed Sci, Chunchon 24252, South Korea; Gangneung Wonju Natl Univ, Res Inst Oral Sci, Coll Dent, Dept Biochem & Mol Biol, Kangnung 25457, South Korea; Chungnam Natl Univ, Dept Vet Med, Daejeon 34134, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll Nat Sci, Sch Life Sci, Taegu 41566, South Korea; Chungnam Natl Univ, Inst Vet Sci, Daejeon 34134, South Korea | lee, lee/KHW-4323-2024; Kim, Nam Hoon/HNS-5794-2023; Choi, Yeon/S-7189-2019; Lee, In-Hyun/D-4531-2011; Kim, Su Min/HOA-9063-2023 | 56406707500; 55894879100; 35485651200; 54894334000; 57190766857; 56406995100; 57190062260; 57224568196; 57226179942; 58093198400; 58174842500; 56194913400; 55798391300; 7402195859; 57207257659; 15036204400; 57215871305; 7402963265; 35277816700; 6602752494; 56912545700 | wseum@hallym.ac.kr;sychoi@hallym.ac.kr; | BIOMEDICINES | BIOMEDICINES | 2227-9059 | 11 | 3 | SCIE | BIOCHEMISTRY & MOLECULAR BIOLOGY;MEDICINE, RESEARCH & EXPERIMENTAL;PHARMACOLOGY & PHARMACY | 2023 | 3.9 | 23.9 | 0.5 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 3 | Tat-GSTpi; PD; neuroprotection; MAPK; protein therapy | GLUTATHIONE-S-TRANSFERASE; SUBSTANTIA-NIGRA LEADS; NF-KAPPA-B; PARKINSONS-DISEASE; PROTEIN TRANSDUCTION; NUCLEAR TRANSLOCATION; P38 MAPK; IN-VIVO; DEATH; MPTP | MAPK; neuroprotection; PD; protein therapy; Tat-GSTpi | English | 2023 | 2023-03 | 10.3390/biomedicines11030836 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | A Knowledge Graph Embedding Approach for Polypharmacy Side Effects Prediction | Predicting the side effects caused by drug combinations may facilitate the prescription of multiple medications in a clinical setting. So far, several prediction models of multidrug side effects based on knowledge graphs have been developed, showing good performance under constrained test conditions. However, these models usually focus on relationships between neighboring nodes of constituent drugs rather than whole nodes, and do not fully exploit the information about the occurrence of single drug side effects. The lack of learning the information on such relationships and single drug data may hinder improvement of performance. Moreover, compared with all possible drug combinations, the highly limited range of drug combinations used for model training prevents achieving high generalizability. To handle these problems, we propose a unified embedding-based prediction model using knowledge graph constructed with data of drug-protein and protein-protein interactions. Herein, single or multiple drugs or proteins are mapped into the same embedding space, allowing us to (1) jointly utilize side effect occurrence data associated with single drugs and multidrug combinations to train prediction models and (2) quantify connectivity strengths between drugs and other entities such as proteins. Due to these characteristics, it becomes also possible to utilize the quantified relationships between distant nodes, as well as neighboring nodes, of all possible multidrug combinations to regularize the models. Compared with existing methods, our model showed improved performance, especially in predicting the side effects of new combinations containing novel drugs that have no clinical information on polypharmacy effects. Furthermore, our unified embedding vectors have been shown to provide interpretability, albeit to a limited extent, for proteins highly associated with multidrug side effect. | Kim, Jinwoo; Shin, Miyoung | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Biointelligence & Data Min Lab, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 58138933500; 7401536642 | shinmy@knu.ac.kr; | APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL | APPL SCI-BASEL | 2076-3417 | 13 | 5 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;ENGINEERING, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.5 | 24.0 | 0.52 | 2025-06-25 | 3 | 4 | knowledge graph embedding; polypharmacy; multidrug side effect; neural networks; interpretability | PRIMARY CILIA; AMYLOID-BETA | interpretability; knowledge graph embedding; multidrug side effect; neural networks; polypharmacy | English | 2023 | 2023-03 | 10.3390/app13052842 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Adaptive Regression Prefetching Algorithm by Using Big Data Application Characteristics | This paper presents an innovative prefetching algorithm for a hybrid main memory structure, which consists of DRAM and phase-change memory. To enhance the efficiency of hybrid memory hardware in serving big data technologies, the proposed design employs an application-adaptive algorithm based on big data execution characteristics. Specifically optimized for graph-processing applications, which exhibit complex and irregular memory access patterns, a dual prefetching scheme is proposed. This scheme comprises a fast-response model with low-cost algorithms for regular memory access patterns and an intelligent model based on an adaptive Gaussian-kernel-based machine-learning prefetch engine. The intelligent model can acquire knowledge from real-time data samples, capturing distinct memory access patterns via an adaptive Gaussian-kernel-based regression algorithm. These methods allow the model to self-adjust its hyperparameters at runtime, facilitating the implementation of locally weighted regression (LWR) for the Gaussian process of irregular access patterns. In addition, we introduced an efficient hybrid main memory architecture that integrates two different kinds of memory technologies, including DRAM and PCM, providing cost and energy efficiency over a DRAM-only memory structure. Based on the simulation-based experimental results, our proposed model achieved performance enhancement of 57% compared to the conventional DRAM model and of approximately 12% compared to existing prefetcher-based models. | Zhang, Mengzhao; Tang, Qian; Kim, Jeong-Geun; Burgstaller, Bernd; Kim, Shin-Dug | Yonsei Univ, Dept Comp Sci, 50 Yonsei ro, Seoul 03722, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Comp Sci & Engn, 80 Daehak ro, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 57429759100; 58185791100; 57040520600; 14041231600; 17233679400 | sdkim@yonsei.ac.kr; | APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL | APPL SCI-BASEL | 2076-3417 | 13 | 7 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;ENGINEERING, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.5 | 24.0 | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 0 | graph processing; regression algorithm; data prefetching; hybrid main memory; memory management | BENCHMARK | data prefetching; graph processing; hybrid main memory; memory management; regression algorithm | English | 2023 | 2023-04 | 10.3390/app13074436 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Bifidobacterium lactis IDCC 4301 Exerts Anti-Obesity Effects in High-Fat Diet-Fed Mice Model by Regulating Lipid Metabolism | ScopeChronic hypernutrition promotes lipid accumulation in the body and excessive lipid accumulation leads to obesity. An increase in the number and size of adipocytes, a characteristic of obesity is closely associated with adipose dysfunction. Recent in vitro and in vivo studies have shown that probiotics may prevent this dysfunction by regulating lipid metabolism. However, the mechanisms of action of probiotics in obesity are not fully understood and their usage for treating obesity remains limited. Methods and resultsBifidobacterium lactis IDCC 4301 is selected for its anti-obesity potential after evaluating inhibitory activity of pancreatic lipase and cholesterol reducing activity. Next, this study investigates the roles of B. lactis IDCC 4301 on lipid metabolism in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and high-fat diet (HFD)-fed mice. B. lactis IDCC 4301 inhibits cell differentiation and lipid accumulation by suppressing the expression of adipogenic enzymes in 3T3-L1 cells. Moreover, the administration of B. lactis IDCC 4301 decreases body and adipose tissue weight, improves serum lipid levels, and downregulates adipogenic mRNA expression in HFD-fed mice. Additionally, metabolomic analysis suggests that 2-ketobutyrate should be a possible target compound against obesity. ConclusionsB. lactis IDCC 4301 may be used as an alternative treatment for obesity. | Ban, O-Hyun; Lee, Minjee; Bang, Won Yeong; Nam, Eoun Ho; Jeon, Hyeon Ji; Shin, Minhye; Yang, Jungwoo; Jung, Young Hoon | Ildong Biosci, Pyeongtaek Si 17957, Gyeonggi Do, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Food Sci & Biotechnol, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Inha Univ, Coll Med, Dept Microbiol, Incheon 22212, South Korea | Jung, Young/F-1703-2013; Jeon, Hyeon Ji/HPH-4892-2023; Jung, Young Hoon/F-1703-2013 | 57219226382; 57221979843; 57208701768; 58035371200; 57795638700; 57208401604; 56076383700; 55550063700 | mhshin@inha.ac.kr;yjw@ildong.com;younghoonjung@knu.ac.kr; | MOLECULAR NUTRITION & FOOD RESEARCH | MOL NUTR FOOD RES | 1613-4125 | 1613-4133 | 67 | 3 | SCIE | FOOD SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | 2023 | 4.5 | 24.0 | 2.34 | 2025-06-25 | 16 | 19 | anti-obesity; Bifidobacterium lactis; lactic acid bacteria; metabolomic analysis; probiotics | GUT MICROBIOME; OBESE; ADIPOGENESIS; ASSOCIATION; EXPRESSION; LEPTIN; GAMMA; OB | anti-obesity; Bifidobacterium lactis; lactic acid bacteria; metabolomic analysis; probiotics | 3T3-L1 Cells; Adipogenesis; Animals; Anti-Obesity Agents; Bifidobacterium animalis; Cholesterol; Diet, High-Fat; Disease Models, Animal; Lipid Metabolism; Mice; Mice, Inbred C57BL; Obesity; antiobesity agent; cholesterol; 3T3-L1 cell line; adipogenesis; animal; Bifidobacterium animalis; C57BL mouse; disease model; lipid diet; lipid metabolism; metabolism; mouse; obesity | English | 2023 | 2023-02 | 10.1002/mnfr.202200385 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Review | Challenges, Issues, and Recommendations for Blockchain- and Cloud-Based Automotive Insurance Systems | Despite the rapid expansion in the insurance industry, many issues remain unresolved and may require immediate action. As the insurance sector continues to evolve with the development of new technologies, it faces more challenges, especially related to data security and fraud. The fraud-prevention data and tactics presently used by insurance firms are outdated and ineffective. Additionally, insurance firms have traditionally handled the settlement of all consumer claims through lengthy manual processes. These manual processes need to be changed to provide opportunities for insurance businesses to grow. In the case of vehicles, the information obtained from an automobile data recorder can be used as evidence. Data from automated vehicles are critical because they can help the police, law enforcement agencies, and insurance companies to reconstruct the events leading up to a collision. Insurance companies require the forensic analysis of accident videos, which is a time-consuming process and involves a large amount of storage. Due to hardware limitations and associated costs, the current standalone (and often dedicated) computing infrastructures used for this purpose are quite limited. Previous research focused on simple video analysis tasks within cloud computing and blockchain technology. The requirements for a large-scale auto-insurance system are quite high and need more thorough investigation. In this paper, a review of the contribution of recent approaches to storing accidental data in cloud computing using blockchain is provided. We focused on the latest cloud and blockchain studies related to auto-insurance along with the related issues and challenges. Some useful solutions and recommendations are provided to address the identified issues and challenges in the cloud-based and blockchain-based auto-insurance sector. | Mateen, Abdul; Khalid, Adia; Lee, Sihyung; Nam, Seung Yeob | Fed Urdu Univ Arts, Dept Comp Sci Sci & Technol, Islamabad 44000, Pakistan; Yeungnam Univ, Dept Informat & Commun Engn, Gyongsan 38541, South Korea; COMSATS Univ Islamabad, Dept Comp Sci, Islamabad 44000, Pakistan; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Comp Sci & Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | ; Nam, Seung/Q-7486-2019; Khalid, Adia/AAD-1425-2021 | 58024251000; 56562556800; 15623380100; 7402276352 | synam@ynu.ac.kr; | APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL | APPL SCI-BASEL | 2076-3417 | 13 | 6 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;ENGINEERING, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.5 | 24.0 | 0.15 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 3 | blockchain; cloud computing; auto-insurance; insurance fraud; smart contracts | TECHNOLOGY; FRAUD | auto-insurance; blockchain; cloud computing; insurance fraud; smart contracts | English | 2023 | 2023-03 | 10.3390/app13063561 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Classification of Tree Composition in the Forest Using Images from SENTINEL-2: A Case Study of Geomunoreum Forests Using NDVI Images | Climate change may alter tree species' distribution, which could impact on forest biodiversity. However, frequent and continuous surveys of forests need intense labor and are time-consuming. The current study utilized SENTINEL-2 images of Geomunoreum to solve this problem as a case study. Acquired images were converted into various indices, such as the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), which could be an efficient method to examine the diversity in forests over time. In the current study, the images were obtained in March and April from 2017 to 2021. As a result of analysis using NDVI images of the study area taken from the satellite, vegetation groups were classified into evergreen trees and deciduous trees. This implies that NDVI using extracted data from SENTINEL-2 images could be used for surveying large-scale examinations for tree classification in order to observe variations caused by climate change in an efficient and cost-effective manner. | Chung, Yong Suk; Yoon, Seong Uk; Heo, Seong; Kim, Yoon Seok; Kim, Yoon-Ha; Han, Gyung Deok; Ahn, Jinhyun | Jeju Natl Univ, Dept Plant Resources & Environm, Jeju 63243, South Korea; Kongju Natl Univ, Dept Hort, Yesan 32439, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Appl Biosci, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Cheongju Natl Univ Educ, Dept Pract Arts Educ, Cheongju 28690, South Korea; Jeju Natl Univ, Dept Management Informat Syst, Jeju 63243, South Korea; Jeju Natl Univ, Fac Data Sci Sustainable Growth, Jeju 63243, South Korea | ; Chung, Yong/V-6909-2019 | 36983850100; 57581282300; 35898345700; 57581093100; 57224866763; 57191094095; 56621886700 | hangds@cje.ac.kr;jha@jejunu.ac.kr; | APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL | APPL SCI-BASEL | 2076-3417 | 13 | 1 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;ENGINEERING, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.5 | 24.0 | 0.39 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 3 | image analysis; remote sensing; RGB image; satellite image; vegetation survey | JEJU ISLAND; TEMPERATURE | image analysis; remote sensing; RGB image; satellite image; vegetation survey | English | 2023 | 2023-01 | 10.3390/app13010303 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Comparative Evaluation of Viscosity, Density and Ultrasonic Velocity Using Deviation Modelling for Ethyl-Alcohol Based Binary Mixtures | This study reports the comparative deviations in experimental viscosity, density and ultrasonic velocity of two new ethanol-based binary liquid mixtures (ethanol + 1-hexanol and ethanol + 1-octanol) at 303.15 K by applying various theoretical models (Hind relation (& eta;H), Kendall and Monroe relation (& eta;K-M), Bingham relation (& eta;B), Arrhenius-Eyring relation (& eta;AE), Croenauer-Rothfus Kermore relation (& eta;CRK) and Gambrill relation (& eta;G)). Typically, the experimental densities are compared with theoretical methods like the Mchaweh-Nasrifar-Mashfeghian model (& rho;MNM), Hankinson and Thomson model (& rho;HT), Yamada and Gunn model (& rho;YG) and Reid et al. (& rho;R) model. Additionally, the experimental ultrasonic velocities are compared with various theoretical models like the Nomoto relation (UN), Van Dael and Vangeel relation (UIMR), Impedance relation (UIR), Rao's specific velocity relation (UR) and Junjie relation (UJ). The average percentage of deviation (APD) is determined to identify the most suited model that can closely agree to the experimental values of the specified property (viscosity, density and ultrasonic velocity). From the APD values, it may be concluded that the & eta;K-M model is the most suitable theoretical method for estimating the viscosity for the ethanol + 1-hexanol system, and the Gambrill model is the suitable method for estimating viscosity for ethanol + 1-octanol liquid systems. Similarly, the model of Reid et al. and Jungie's relation are the most suited theoretical models to predict the density and ultrasonic velocity of the binary liquid systems, respectively. Form the experimental data, various molecular interaction properties like adiabatic compressibility, intermolecular free length, free volume, internal pressure, and viscous relaxation time are analysed. The results of this study are expected to be useful in predicting the suitable molecular proportions that can be suited for industrial application (flavouring additive, insecticide, in the manufacture of antiseptics, perfumes for 1-hexanol based mixtures and flavouring, and as an antifoaming agent for 1-octanol based liquid mixtures). | Padmanaban, Radhakrishnan; Gayathri, Ahobilam; Gopalan, Aanantha Iyengar; Lee, Dong-Eun; Venkatramanan, Kannan | Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyal, Fac Sci, Kanchipuram 631561, India; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Intelligent Construct Automat Ctr, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Architecture Civil Environm & Energy, 1370 Sangyeok Dong, Daegu 702701, South Korea | kannan, venkatramanan/N-4628-2016 | 55253788200; 57215377269; 57191999779; 56605563300; 57218952492 | padhu.mphil@gmail.com;ag@kanchiuniv.ac.in;algopal99@gmail.com;dolee@knu.ac.kr;kv@kanchiuniv.ac.in; | APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL | APPL SCI-BASEL | 2076-3417 | 13 | 13 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;ENGINEERING, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.5 | 24.0 | 0.26 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 2 | molecular binary mixtures; liquid; theoretical models; thermophysical properties; deviation | MOLECULAR-INTERACTIONS; LIQUID MIXTURES; INTERMOLECULAR INTERACTION; MOLAR VOLUMES; 293.15 K; PARAMETERS; 1-HEXANOL; METHANOL; SOUND; TEMPERATURE | deviation; liquid; molecular binary mixtures; theoretical models; thermophysical properties | English | 2023 | 2023-07 | 10.3390/app13137475 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Review | Compression Sportswear Improves Speed, Endurance, and Functional Motor Performances: A Meta-Analysis | Compression sportswear is widely used for enhancing exercise performances, facilitating recovery, and preventing injuries. Despite prior findings that confirmed positive effects on physical recovery after exercises, whether compression sportswear can enhance exercise performances has not been determined. Thus, this systematic meta-analysis examined the effects of compression sportswear on exercise performances including speed, endurance, strength and power, functional motor performance, and sport-related performance. We calculated effect sizes by comparing changes in exercise performances between the compression garment and the control group. Two additional moderator variable analyses determined whether altered exercise performances were different based on the types of participants and compression sportswear. For the total 769 participants from 42 included studies, the random-effect model found that compression sportswear significantly improved speed, endurance, and functional motor performances. Additional moderator variable analyses identified significant positive effects on speed for athletes, and endurance and functional motor performance for moderately trained adults. Further, whole-body compression garments were beneficial for improving speed, and lower-body compression garments effectively advanced endurance performances. For functional motor performances, both upper- and lower-body suits were effective. These findings suggest that wearing compression sportswear may be a viable strategy to enhance overall exercise performances. | Lee, Hanall; Kim, Rye-Kyeong; Chae, Woen-Sik; Kang, Nyeonju | Incheon Natl Univ, Sport Sci Inst, Hlth Promot Ctr, Div Sport Sci, Incheon 22012, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Phys Educ, Daegu 41566, South Korea | ; Kang, Nyeonju/AAX-1879-2021 | 57814710600; 57208566136; 7003277423; 56125176200 | hlee2500@inu.ac.kr;krk09@inu.ac.kr;wschae@knu.ac.kr;nyunju@inu.ac.kr; | APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL | APPL SCI-BASEL | 2076-3417 | 13 | 24 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;ENGINEERING, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.5 | 24.0 | 0.24 | 2025-06-25 | 4 | 5 | compression sportswear; garment; exercise performance; meta-analysis | INDUCED MUSCLE DAMAGE; JOINT POSITION SENSE; PHYSIOLOGICAL-RESPONSES; RUNNING PERFORMANCE; SPRINT PERFORMANCE; GARMENTS; STOCKINGS; EXERCISE; RUNNERS; INTENSITY | compression sportswear; exercise performance; garment; meta-analysis | English | 2023 | 2023-12 | 10.3390/app132413198 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Concentration Influence of Complexing Agent on Electrodeposited Zn-Ni Alloy | Zinc (Zn) coatings, which are widely used to protect metals from corrosion, can be further improved by alloying with nickel (Ni). Increasing the Ni content enhances the corrosion-resistant properties of the Zn coating. This study investigated the effect of tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA) concentration on the Ni content and the properties of the Zn-Ni alloy coating. Zn-Ni alloy coatings were electrodeposited via the Hull cell test with TEPA concentrations of 0, 0.035, 0.07, and 0.1 M. We found that increasing the TEPA concentration improved the brightness of the coating at low current density and influenced the crystal orientation and morphology. When the TEPA concentration was increased to 0.7 M, the Ni content of the Zn-Ni alloy coating significantly increased before leveling off. However, the thickness of the coatings decreased with increasing TEPA concentration. The electrochemical behavior of the Zn-Ni alloy electrodeposition was validated via partial polarization curves of the Zn and Ni depositions. | Son, Byung-Ki; Choi, Ji-Won; Jeon, Su-Byung; Son, In-Joon | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Mat Sci & Met Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; ILSUNG Plating Co Ltd, R&D Ctr, Daegu 42697, South Korea | 57877801800; 57878356800; 57878356900; 9942975800 | ilsung70@ilsung70.com;rhrwl6@naver.com;milk3275@naver.com;ijson@knu.ac.kr; | APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL | APPL SCI-BASEL | 2076-3417 | 13 | 13 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;ENGINEERING, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.5 | 24.0 | 0.39 | 2025-06-25 | 2 | 3 | Zn-Ni alloy; electrodeposition; complexing agent; Ni content; gloss | CORROSION-RESISTANCE; ALKALINE BATH; GAMMA-PHASE; COATINGS; BEHAVIOR; TRIETHANOLAMINE; DEPOSITION | complexing agent; electrodeposition; gloss; Ni content; Zn-Ni alloy | English | 2023 | 2023-07 | 10.3390/app13137887 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||

| ○ | ○ | Article | Design and Analysis of an Inductive Coupling System for the Early Detection of Heart Failure | Heart failure is a common, complex clinical syndrome with high morbidity and mortality. Hemodynamic parameter evaluation is useful for early detection, clinical outcome monitoring, timely treatment, and the overall prognosis of heart failure patients. Therefore, continuous monitoring of hemodynamic parameters helps in the evaluation of patients with suspected heart failure. The hemodynamic parameters change with respect to the contraction and expansion of the heart. Hence, in this research, two circuit-less 30 mm spherical receiver coils were implanted in both the left and right sides of the heart and an external transceiver coil was placed above the chest. The changes in the reflection coefficient of the transceiver coil at the resonant frequency changed depending on the distance between the implanted coils, allowing the contraction and expansion of the heart to be determined. This work was carried out at 13.56 MHz, considering the safety limits imposed by the FCC. The proposed reflection coefficient monitoring technique may distinguish healthy patients from heart failure and heart attack patients. The reflection coefficients at a maximum distance of 50 mm for simulation and measurement are -10.3 dB and -10.6 dB, respectively, at the resonant frequency. | Venkataramani, Raghavendiran Krishnamurthy; Mohanarangam, Krithikaa; Lim, Jongmin; Yu, Ke; Gonuguntla, Venkateswarlu; Choi, Jun Rim | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Symbiosis Int Deemed Univ, Symbiosis Inst Technol, Pune Campus, Pune 412115, India; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll IT Engn, Sch Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Symbiosis Int Deemed Univ, Symbiosis Ctr Med Image Anal, Pune 412115, India | ; Mohanarangam, Krithikaa/IAO-1286-2023; Gonuguntla, Venkateswarlu/AAH-5239-2021 | 58185785400; 56955462000; 58186120700; 58099769200; 55696595000; 7501392846 | jrchoi@ee.knu.ac.kr; | APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL | APPL SCI-BASEL | 2076-3417 | 13 | 7 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;ENGINEERING, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;MATERIALS SCIENCE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY;PHYSICS, APPLIED | 2023 | 2.5 | 24.0 | 0 | 2025-06-25 | 0 | 0 | heart failure; hemodynamic parameters; resonant frequency; reflection coefficient; specific absorption rate | heart failure; hemodynamic parameters; reflection coefficient; resonant frequency; specific absorption rate | English | 2023 | 2023-04 | 10.3390/app13074381 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 |
