| ○ | ○ | Article | Design and Analysis of an Active Reflection Controller That Can Reduce Acoustic Signal Refer to the Angle of Incidence | Techniques for reducing the reflection of acoustic signals have recently been actively studied. Most methods for reducing acoustic signals were studied using the normal-incidence wave reduction technique. Although the technique of canceling an object from the normal incidence wave is essential, research on reducing acoustic signals according to the angle of incidence is required for practical applications. In this study, we designed, fabricated, and experimented with an active reflection controller that can reduce acoustic signals according to the angle of incidence. The controller consists of a transmitter on one layer, a receiver sensor on two layers, and an acoustic window on three layers. To reduce the reflected signal, a combination of the time delay and phase was applied to the controller to minimize the acoustic signal by up to -23 dB at an angle of 10 degrees. A controller array simulation was performed based on the results of a controlled experiment. In conclusion, our proposed controller can reduce acoustic signals according to the angle of incidence, which makes it suitable for many applications. | Pyun, Joo Young; Park, Beom Hoon; Kim, Young Hun; Won, Yeong Bae; Yi, Hak; Lee, Jeong-Min; Seo, Hee-Seon; Park, Kwan Kyu | Hanyang Univ, Dept Convergence Mech Engn, Seoul 04763, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Mech Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Agcy Def Dev, Maritime Technol Res Inst, Chang Won 51682, South Korea | ; Park, Kwan/AAC-1269-2021; Park, Kwan Kyu/L-1074-2016 | 57207316774; 57222087803; 57207317091; 57221051724; 56567311000; 57196138392; 24765212200; 55827729700 | jooyoungpyun@hanyang.ac.kr;pbh128@hanyang.ac.kr;jason401@hanyang.ac.kr;wyp1028s@knu.ac.kr;yihak@knu.ac.kr;leemin@add.re.kr;hsseo@add.re.kr;kwankyu@hanyang.ac.kr; | SENSORS | SENSORS-BASEL | 1424-8220 | 21 | 17 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION | 2021 | 3.847 | 28.9 | 0.22 | 2025-07-30 | 3 | 3 | low-frequency transducer; piezoelectric material; angle of incidence | UNDERWATER SOUND-ABSORPTION; PERFORMANCE; RADIATION | Angle of incidence; Low-frequency transducer; Piezoelectric material | Acoustics; Computer Simulation; Incidence; Controllers; Acoustic windows; Angle of Incidence; Array simulations; Controlled experiment; Design and analysis; Normal incidence; Reduction techniques; Reflected signal; acoustics; computer simulation; incidence; Acoustic waves | English | 2021 | 2021-09 | 10.3390/s21175793 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | Article | Design and Evaluation of Korean Electropalatography (K-EPG) | Recently, the development of medical rehabilitation technology has resulted in an increased interest in speech therapy equipment. In particular, research on articulation therapy for communication disorders is being actively conducted. The existing methods for the diagnosis and treatment of speech disorders, such as traditional tactile perception tests and methods based on the empirical judgment of speech therapists, have many limitations. Moreover, the position and contact force of the tongue are key factors in speech disorders with regards to articulation. This is a very important factor in the distinction of Korean characters such as lax, tense and aspirated consonants. In this study, we proposed a Korean-electropalatography (EPG) system to easily measure and monitor the position and contact force of the tongue during articulation treatment and diagnosis. In our proposed K-EPG system, a sensor was fabricated using an AgCl electrode and biocompatible silicon. Furthermore, the measured signal was analyzed by implementing a bio-signal processing module and monitoring program. In particular, the bio-signal was measured by inserting the device into the palate of an experimental healthy test group (four subjects). Through these experiments, we confirmed that our K-EPG system could be applied to clinical treatment in speech therapy. | Woo, Seong-Tak; Ha, Ji-Wan; Na, Sungdae; Choi, Hyunjoo; Pyun, Sung-Bom | Dong Seoul Univ, Dept Elect Engn, 76 Bokjeong Ro, Seongnam Si 13117, South Korea; Daegu Univ, Dept Speech Pathol, 201 Daegudae Ro, Gyongsan 38453, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Dept Biomed Engn, 130 Dongdeok Ro, Daegu Si 41944, South Korea; Korean Nazarene Univ, Dept Commun Disorders, Wolbong Ro 48, Cheonan Si 31172, South Korea; Korea Univ, Coll Med, Dept Phys Med & Rehabil, 73 Goryeodae Ro, Seoul 02841, South Korea | Pyun, Sung-Bom/ADY-9496-2022 | stwoo@du.ac.kr;jw-ha@daegu.ac.kr;bluepoison14@gmail.com;hjchoi@kornu.ac.kr;rmpyun@korea.ac.kr; | SENSORS | SENSORS-BASEL | 1424-8220 | 21 | 11 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION | 2021 | 3.847 | 28.9 | 2 | tongue location detection; articulation disorders; tongue contact force; speech sound disorders; dysarthria | CHILDHOOD APRAXIA; CHILDREN; SPEECH; TONGUE; LANGUAGE; ARTICULATION | English | 2021 | 2021-06 | 10.3390/s21113802 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||||||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Design and Fabrication of a High-Speed Atomic Force Microscope Scan-Head | A high-speed atomic force microscope (HS-AFM) requires a specialized set of hardware and software and therefore improving video-rate HS-AFMs for general applications is an ongoing process. To improve the imaging rate of an AFM, all components have to be carefully redesigned since the slowest component determines the overall bandwidth of the instrument. In this work, we present a design of a compact HS-AFM scan-head featuring minimal loading on the Z-scanner. Using a custom-programmed controller and a high-speed lateral scanner, we demonstrate its working by obtaining topographic images of Blu-ray disk data tracks in contact- and tapping-modes. Images acquired using a contact-mode cantilever with a natural frequency of 60 kHz in constant deflection mode show good tracking of topography at 400 Hz. In constant height mode, tracking of topography is demonstrated at rates up to 1.9 kHz for the scan size of 1 mu mx1 mu m with 100x100 pixels. | Otieno, Luke Oduor; Alunda, Bernard Ouma; Kim, Jaehyun; Lee, Yong Joong | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Mech Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Taita Taveta Univ, Sch Mines & Engn, POB 635, Voi 80300, Kenya; Hongik Univ, Dept Mech & Design Engn, Sejong 30016, South Korea | ; Otieno, Luke/KHW-8698-2024 | 57205578290; 55354745500; 56701066800; 57183248500 | luke.otieno@gmail.com;benalunda10@gmail.com;kimj@hongik.ac.kr;yjlee76@knu.ac.kr; | SENSORS | SENSORS-BASEL | 1424-8220 | 21 | 2 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION | 2021 | 3.847 | 28.9 | 0.29 | 2025-07-30 | 5 | 4 | atomic force microscopy; high-speed atomic force microscope; high-speed atomic force microscope scan-head | Atomic force microscopy; High-speed atomic force microscope; High-speed atomic force microscope scan-head | Application programs; Scanning; Topography; Blu-ray disk; Contact modes; Deflection mode; General applications; Hardware and software; Programmed controllers; Tapping modes; Topographic images; Atomic force microscopy | English | 2021 | 2021-01 | 10.3390/s21020362 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Design of a Broadband Array Pattern of Underwater Cymbal Transducers | Cymbal transducers are frequently used as an array rather than a single element because of their high quality factor and low energy conversion efficiency. When used as an array, cymbal transducers are likely to have a big change in their frequency characteristics due to the interaction with neighboring elements. In this study, we designed an array pattern of cymbal transducers to achieve a wide frequency bandwidth using this property. First, cymbal transducers with specific center frequencies were designed. Next, a 2 x 2 planar array was constructed with the designed transducers, where dielectric polarity directions of the transducers were divided into two cases (i.e., same and different). For the array, the effect of the difference in the center frequencies and the spacing between the transducers on the acoustic characteristics of the entire array was analyzed. Based on the results, the structural pattern of the array was optimized to have the maximum fractional bandwidth while maintaining the transmitting voltage response over a given requirement. The design validity was verified by making cymbal array prototypes, followed by measuring their performances and comparing them with that of the design. | Kim, Donghyun; Shim, Hayeong; Oh, Changmin; Kim, Kyungseop; Seo, Heeseon; Roh, Yongrae | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Mech Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Agcy Def Dev, Chang Won 51678, South Korea | 58950709000; 57202806954; 57218589504; 9634041100; 24765212200; 7102361870 | roy4435@naver.com;hiyo3@naver.com;radicalohcm@gmail.com;seop@add.re.kr;hsseo@add.re.kr;yryong@knu.ac.kr; | SENSORS | SENSORS-BASEL | 1424-8220 | 21 | 18 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION | 2021 | 3.847 | 28.9 | 0.44 | 2025-07-30 | 7 | 7 | cymbal transducer; array pattern; optimal design; broadband | PROJECTOR | Array pattern; Broadband; Cymbal transducer; Optimal design | Acoustics; Equipment Design; Transducers; Ultrasonography; Bandwidth; Conversion efficiency; Acoustic characteristic; Cymbal transducer; Fractional bandwidths; Frequency band width; Frequency characteristic; High quality factors; Structural pattern; Transmitting voltage response; acoustics; echography; equipment design; transducer; Transducers | English | 2021 | 2021-09 | 10.3390/s21186119 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Design of a Payload Adjustment Device for an Unpowered Lower-Limb Exoskeleton | This paper proposes a device that can change the payload of an unpowered lower-limb exoskeleton supporting the weights of humans and loads. Our previous exoskeletons used a cam-follower structure with a spring applied to the hip joint. This exoskeleton showed satisfying performance within the payload; however, the performance decreased when the payload was exceeded. Therefore, a payload adjustment device that can adjust the wearer's required torque by easily applying it to the cam-follower structure was developed. An exoskeleton dynamic equation that can calculate a person's required joint torque given the required payload and the wearer's posture was derived. This dynamic equation provides a guideline for designing a device that can adjust the allowable joint torque range of an unpowered exoskeleton. In the Adams simulation environment, the payload adjustment device is applied to the cam-follower structure to show that the payload of the exoskeleton can be changed. User convenience and mass production were taken into account in the design of this device. This payload adjustment device should flexibly change the payload of the level desired by the wearer because it can quickly change the payload of the exoskeleton. | Yun, Junghwan; Kang, Ohhyun; Joe, Hyun-Min | Kyungpook Natl Univ, PCO Nhac Ltd, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Artificial Intelligence, Dept Robot & Smart Syst Engn, Humanoid Robot Lab, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 57200709428; 43261478200; 57188687051 | junghwanyun5084@gmail.com;kang9822@gmail.com;hmjoe@knu.ac.kr; | SENSORS | SENSORS-BASEL | 1424-8220 | 21 | 12 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION | 2021 | 3.847 | 28.9 | 0.52 | 2025-07-30 | 5 | 7 | human assistance; unpowered; exoskeleton; payload; variable stiffness; torque compensation | LOWER-EXTREMITY EXOSKELETON; LEG EXOSKELETON; TECHNOLOGY; WALKING; BACKDRIVABILITY; REHABILITATION; ACTUATION | Exoskeleton; Human assistance; Payload; Torque compensation; Unpowered; Variable stiffness | Biomechanical Phenomena; Exoskeleton Device; Hip Joint; Humans; Lower Extremity; Torque; Walking; Cams; Joints (anatomy); Adams simulation; Dynamic equations; Hip joints; Joint torques; Lower limb; Mass production; biomechanics; exoskeleton (rehabilitation); hip; human; lower limb; torque; walking; Exoskeleton (Robotics) | English | 2021 | 2021-06 | 10.3390/s21124037 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Design of a Wideband Tonpilz Transducer Comprising Non-Uniform Piezoceramic Stacks with Equivalent Circuits | Tonpilz transducers are desirable for their superior performance in underwater target detection and communication applications. Several design schemes to widen their bandwidth have been reported, but these schemes often involve a complex structure or arrangement of additional components. In this study, a simple design is proposed to improve the bandwidth of a multimode Tonpilz transducer by using a non-uniform drive section that consists of piezoelectric stacks of various thicknesses. The efficacy of the design is illustrated with a multimode Tonpilz transducer having three lead zirconate titanate (PZT) stacks of different thicknesses. A new equivalent circuit was developed to analyze the frequency response of the transducer incorporating the non-uniform drive section and was used for rigorous analysis of the effects of varying the position and thickness of the non-uniform stacks on the transmitting characteristics of the transducer. The validity of the design was verified through the fabrication and characterization of a prototype multimode Tonpilz transducer. The developed structure can be readily extended to an arbitrary number of stacks in the Tonpilz transducer with any number of PZT disks in each stack. | Pyo, Seonghun; Afzal, Muhammad Shakeel; Lim, Youngsub; Lee, Seungjin; Roh, Yongrae | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Mech Engn, Daegu 41556, South Korea; LIG Nex1 Co Ltd, Maritime Integrated Secur Syst, Seongnam 13488, South Korea | 56715171600; 57200092141; 56244666300; 57216561427; 7102361870 | nasgool@naver.com;shakeel@gmail.com;youngsub.lim@lignex1.com;seungjin.lee@lignex1.com;yryong@knu.ac.kr; | SENSORS | SENSORS-BASEL | 1424-8220 | 21 | 8 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION | 2021 | 3.847 | 28.9 | 0.74 | 2025-07-30 | 7 | 11 | multimode Tonpilz transducer; non-uniform drive section; equivalent circuit method; flexural vibration mode | Equivalent circuit method; Flexural vibration mode; Multimode Tonpilz transducer; Non-uniform drive section | Bandwidth; Frequency response; Lead zirconate titanate; Marine communication; Piezoelectric ceramics; Timing circuits; Transducers; Ultrasonic transducers; Communication application; Complex structure; Fabrication and characterizations; Piezoelectric stack; Rigorous analysis; Tonpilz transducer; Transmitting characteristics; Underwater target detection; Equivalent circuits | English | 2021 | 2021-04 | 10.3390/s21082680 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Design of Grating Al2O3 Passivation Structure Optimized for High-Efficiency Cu(In,Ga)Se2 Solar Cells | In this paper, we propose an optimized structure of thin Cu(In,Ga)Se-2 (CIGS) solar cells with a grating aluminum oxide (Al2O3) passivation layer (GAPL) providing nano-sized contact openings in order to improve power conversion efficiency using optoelectrical simulations. Al2O3 is used as a rear surface passivation material to reduce carrier recombination and improve reflectivity at a rear surface for high efficiency in thin CIGS solar cells. To realize high efficiency for thin CIGS solar cells, the optimized structure was designed by manipulating two structural factors: the contact opening width (COW) and the pitch of the GAPL. Compared with an unpassivated thin CIGS solar cell, the efficiency was improved up to 20.38% when the pitch of the GAPL was 7.5-12.5 mu m. Furthermore, the efficiency was improved as the COW of the GAPL was decreased. The maximum efficiency value occurred when the COW was 100 nm because of the effective carrier recombination inhibition and high reflectivity of the Al2O3 insulator passivation with local contacts. These results indicate that the designed structure has optimized structural points for high-efficiency thin CIGS solar cells. Therefore, the photovoltaic (PV) generator and sensor designers can achieve the higher performance of photosensitive thin CIGS solar cells by considering these results. | Park, Chan Hyeon; Kim, Jun Yong; Sung, Shi-Joon; Kim, Dae-Hwan; Do, Yun Seon | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect Engn, 80 Daehak Ro, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, 80 Daehak Ro, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Daegu Gyeongbuk Inst Sci & Technol DGIST, Div Energy Technol, Daegu 42988, South Korea | Sung, Shi-Joon/AAU-2464-2021; Kim, Dae/AAJ-7518-2021; Kim, Jihyun/F-6940-2013 | 57226024638; 57209837877; 7202731923; 57778048600; 24338060500 | time0117@knu.ac.kr;rhawns4567@knu.ac.kr;sjsung@dgist.ac.kr;monolith@dgist.ac;yuns.do@knu.ac.kr; | SENSORS | SENSORS-BASEL | 1424-8220 | 21 | 14 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION | 2021 | 3.847 | 28.9 | 0.59 | 2025-07-30 | 9 | 11 | photovoltaics; thin CIGS solar cells; surface passivation; aluminum oxide | ELECTRICAL-PROPERTIES; LAYER; ZNO | Aluminum oxide; Photovoltaics; Surface passivation; Thin CIGS solar cells | Alumina; Aluminum oxide; Charge carriers; Conversion efficiency; Copper compounds; Efficiency; Nanostructured materials; Passivation; Reflection; Carrier recombination; High reflectivity; Maximum Efficiency; Optimized structures; Passivation structure; Power conversion efficiencies; Structural factor; Surface passivation; Solar cells | English | 2021 | 2021-07 | 10.3390/s21144849 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Design Study of a Round Window Piezoelectric Transducer for Active Middle Ear Implants | This report describes the design of a new piezoelectric transducer for round window (RW)-driven middle ear implants. The transducer consists of a piezoelectric element, gold-coated copper bellows, silicone elastomer (polydimethylsiloxane, PDMS), metal cylinder (tungsten), and titanium housing. The piezoelectric element is fixed to the titanium housing and mechanical resonance is generated by the interaction of the bellows, PDMS, and tungsten cylinder. The dimensions of PDMS and the tungsten cylinder with output characteristics suitable for compensation of sensorineural hearing loss were derived by mechanical vibrational analysis (equivalent mechanical model and finite element analysis (FEA)). Based on the results of FEA, the RW piezoelectric transducer was implemented, and bench tests were performed under no-load conditions to confirm the output characteristics. The transducer generates an average displacement of 219.6 nm in the flat band (0.1-1 kHz); the resonance frequency is 2.3 kHz. To evaluate the output characteristics, the response was compared to that of an earlier transducer. When driven by the same voltage (6 V-p), the flat band displacement averaged 30 nm larger than that of the other transducer, and no anti-resonance was noted. Therefore, we expect that the new transducer can serve as an output device for hearing aids, and that it will improve speech recognition and treat high-frequency sensorineural hearing loss more effectively. | Shin, Dong Ho | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Inst Biomed Engn Res, 680 Gukchaebosang Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea | 56693502600 | swap9552@naver.com; | SENSORS | SENSORS-BASEL | 1424-8220 | 21 | 3 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION | 2021 | 3.847 | 28.9 | 0.15 | 2025-07-30 | 3 | 2 | round window piezoelectric transducer; active middle-ear implants; mechanical vibration analysis; sensorineural hearing loss; polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) | FLOATING MASS TRANSDUCER; SENSORINEURAL HEARING-LOSS; DEVICE; SENSORS; SAFETY | Active middle-ear implants; Mechanical vibration analysis; Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS); Round window piezoelectric transducer; Sensorineural hearing loss | Hearing Aids; Hearing Loss, Sensorineural; Humans; Ossicular Prosthesis; Round Window, Ear; Transducers; Audition; Bellows; Cylinders (shapes); Gold coatings; Hearing aids; Housing; Microchannels; Piezoelectric devices; Piezoelectricity; Resonance; Silicones; Speech recognition; Titanium; Transducers; Tungsten; Vibrations (mechanical); Equivalent mechanical models; Mechanical resonance; Middle ear implants; Output characteristics; Piezoelectric elements; Resonance frequencies; Silicone elastomers; Vibrational analysis; cochlea fenestra; hearing aid; human; middle ear prosthesis; perception deafness; transducer; Piezoelectric transducers | English | 2021 | 2021-02 | 10.3390/s21030946 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Development of an Onboard Robotic Platform for Embedded Programming Education | Robotics has been used as an attractive tool in diverse educational fields. A variety of robotic platforms have contributed to teaching practical embedded programming to engineering students at universities. However, most platforms only support content with a low level of programming skills and are unlikely to support a high level of embedded programming. This low association negatively affects students, such as incomprehension, decreased participation, dissatisfaction with course quality, etc. Therefore, this paper proposed a new robotic platform with relevant curricula to improve their effectiveness. The developed platform provided practical content used in mechatronics classes and the capability to operate a robot with a high level of embedded programming. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed platform, participants (undergraduates) examined course evaluations for educational programs based on the developed platform compared with the previous year's class evaluation. The results showed that the proposed platform positively affects students' intellectual ability (performance) and satisfaction in programming education. | Lee, Hyun-Jae; Yi, Hak | Keyon Syst, Daegu 42415, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Mech Engn, Daegu 42415, South Korea | 57222056301; 56567311000 | jaelee6648@gmail.com;yihak@knu.ac.kr; | SENSORS | SENSORS-BASEL | 1424-8220 | 21 | 11 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION | 2021 | 3.847 | 28.9 | 0.66 | 2025-07-30 | 11 | 13 | robotics; embedded programming; engineering education; robotic platform; mechatronics | MECHATRONICS; CURRICULUM; DESIGN | Embedded programming; Engineering education; Mechatronics; Robotic platform; Robotics | Clinical Competence; Curriculum; Humans; Robotics; Students; Curricula; End effectors; Robot programming; Robotics; Students; Course evaluations; Course qualities; Educational program; Embedded programming; Intellectual ability; Programming education; Programming skills; Robotic platforms; clinical competence; curriculum; human; robotics; student; Educational robots | English | 2021 | 2021-06 | 10.3390/s21113916 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||

We specify the details of the SIDH with a geometric phase metalens design that covers the visible wavelength band, analyze a spatial distortion problem in the SIDH and address a process of a compressive holographic section-wise reconstruction with analytic spatial calibration. | ○ | ○ | Article | Driving Stress Detection Using Multimodal Convolutional Neural Networks with Nonlinear Representation of Short-Term Physiological Signals | Mental stress can lead to traffic accidents by reducing a driver's concentration or increasing fatigue while driving. In recent years, demand for methods to detect drivers' stress in advance to prevent dangerous situations increased. Thus, we propose a novel method for detecting driving stress using nonlinear representations of short-term (30 s or less) physiological signals for multimodal convolutional neural networks (CNNs). Specifically, from hand/foot galvanic skin response (HGSR, FGSR) and heart rate (HR) short-term input signals, first, we generate corresponding two-dimensional nonlinear representations called continuous recurrence plots (Cont-RPs). Second, from the Cont-RPs, we use multimodal CNNs to automatically extract FGSR, HGSR, and HR signal representative features that can effectively differentiate between stressed and relaxed states. Lastly, we concatenate the three extracted features into one integrated representation vector, which we feed to a fully connected layer to perform classification. For the evaluation, we use a public stress dataset collected from actual driving environments. Experimental results show that the proposed method demonstrates superior performance for 30-s signals, with an overall accuracy of 95.67%, an approximately 2.5-3% improvement compared with that of previous works. Additionally, for 10-s signals, the proposed method achieves 92.33% classification accuracy, which is similar to or better than the performance of other methods using long-term signals (over 100 s). | Lee, Jaewon; Lee, Hyeonjeong; Shin, Miyoung | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Biointelligence & Data Min Lab, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 58377059800; 57207747683; 7401536642 | realjaewon94@gmail.com;leehj1224k@gmail.com;shinmy@knu.ac.kr; | SENSORS | SENSORS-BASEL | 1424-8220 | 21 | 7 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION | 2021 | 3.847 | 28.9 | 2.14 | 2025-07-30 | 23 | 36 | stress detection; physiological signals; galvanic skin response (GSR); heart rate (HR); recurrence plot (RP); deep learning; convolutional neural network (CNN) | HEART-RATE; ECG; RECOGNITION; ANXIETY; SYSTEM | Convolutional neural network (CNN); Deep learning; Galvanic skin response (GSR); Heart rate (HR); Physiological signals; Recurrence plot (RP); Stress detection | Accidents, Traffic; Automobile Driving; Galvanic Skin Response; Heart Rate; Neural Networks, Computer; Automobile drivers; Biomedical signal processing; Convolution; Electrophysiology; Classification accuracy; Dangerous situations; Driving environment; Galvanic skin response; Integrated representations; Overall accuracies; Physiological signals; Recurrence plot; car driving; electrodermal response; heart rate; traffic accident; Convolutional neural networks | English | 2021 | 2021-04 | 10.3390/s21072381 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Enhanced Soft 3D Reconstruction Method with an Iterative Matching Cost Update Using Object Surface Consensus | In this paper, we propose a multi-view stereo matching method, EnSoft3D (Enhanced Soft 3D Reconstruction) to obtain dense and high-quality depth images. Multi-view stereo is one of the high-interest research areas and has wide applications. Motivated by the Soft3D reconstruction method, we introduce a new multi-view stereo matching scheme. The original Soft3D method is introduced for novel view synthesis, while occlusion-aware depth is also reconstructed by integrating the matching costs of the Plane Sweep Stereo (PSS) and soft visibility volumes. However, the Soft3D method has an inherent limitation because the erroneous PSS matching costs are not updated. To overcome this limitation, the proposed scheme introduces an update process of the PSS matching costs. From the object surface consensus volume, an inverse consensus kernel is derived, and the PSS matching costs are iteratively updated using the kernel. The proposed EnSoft3D method reconstructs a highly accurate 3D depth image because both the multi-view matching cost and soft visibility are updated simultaneously. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by using structured and unstructured benchmark datasets. Disparity error is measured to verify 3D reconstruction accuracy, and both PSNR and SSIM are measured to verify the simultaneous enhancement of view synthesis. | Lee, Min-Jae; Um, Gi-Mun; Yun, Joungil; Cheong, Won-Sik; Park, Soon-Yong | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Grad Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Elect & Telecommun Res Inst, Digital Broadcasting Res Div, Daejeon 34129, South Korea | Park, Soon-Yong/HGV-2374-2022 | 57201267778; 6603148622; 7201754045; 27171265600; 7501834063 | suddenly90@naver.com;gmum@etri.re.kr;sigipus@etri.re.kr;wscheong@etri.re.kr;sypark@knu.ac.kr; | SENSORS | SENSORS-BASEL | 1424-8220 | 21 | 19 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION | 2021 | 3.847 | 28.9 | 0.81 | 2025-07-30 | 9 | 12 | stereo vision; multi-view stereo matching; iterative; refinement; view synthesis | STEREO; ALGORITHM; AGGREGATION; ACCURATE; QUALITY; VIDEO | Iterative; Multi‐view stereo matching; Refinement; Stereo vision; View synthesis | Benchmarking; Image enhancement; Image reconstruction; Inverse problems; Iterative methods; Stereo image processing; Visibility; 3D reconstruction; Iterative; Multi-view stereo; Multi‐view stereo matching; Object surface; Plane sweep; Reconstruction method; Refinement; Stereo-matching; View synthesis; Stereo vision | English | 2021 | 2021-10 | 10.3390/s21196680 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | ||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Estimation and Control of Cooperative Aerial Manipulators for a Payload with an Arbitrary Center-of-Mass | This paper presents an integrated framework that integrates the kinematic and dynamic parameter estimation of an irregular object with non-uniform mass distribution for cooperative aerial manipulators. Unlike existing approaches, including impedance-based control which requires expensive force/torque sensors or the first-order-momentum-based estimator which is weak to noise, this paper suggests a method without such sensor and strong to noise by exploiting the decentralized dynamics and sliding-mode-momentum observer. First, the kinematic estimator estimates the relative distances of multiple aerial manipulators by using translational and angular velocities between aerial robots. By exploiting the distance estimation, the desired trajectories for each aerial manipulator are set. Second, the dynamic parameter estimation is performed for the mass of the common object and the vector between the end-effector frame and the center of mass of the object. Finally, the proposed framework is validated with simulations using aerial manipulators combined with two degrees-of-freedom robotic arms using a noisy measurement. Throughout the simulation, we can decrease the mass estimation error by 60% compared to the existing first-order momentum-based method. In addition, a comparison study shows that the proposed method satisfactorily estimates an arbitrary center-of-mass of an unknown payload in noisy environments. | Lee, Hyeonbeom; Kim, Uikyum | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Ajou Univ, Dept Mech Engn, Suwon 16499, South Korea | 55556473400; 54791071900 | hbeomlee@knu.ac.kr;ukim@ajou.ac.kr; | SENSORS | SENSORS-BASEL | 1424-8220 | 21 | 19 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION | 2021 | 3.847 | 28.9 | 0.44 | 2025-07-30 | 5 | 8 | parameter estimation; arbitrary center-of-mass; cooperative aerial manipulation; dynamic uncertainty | COLLISION DETECTION; FRAMEWORK; OBJECT; ROBOT | Arbitrary center-of-mass; Cooperative aerial manipulation; Dynamic uncertainty; Parameter estimation | Biomechanical Phenomena; Computer Simulation; Mechanical Phenomena; Motion; Degrees of freedom (mechanics); Kinematics; Manipulators; Momentum; Parameter estimation; Arbitrary center-of-mass; Centers-of-mass; Cooperative aerial manipulation; Dynamic parameter estimations; Dynamics uncertainties; First order; Integrated frameworks; Kinematics and dynamics; Kinematics parameters; Parameters estimation; biomechanics; computer simulation; mechanics; motion; Antennas | English | 2021 | 2021-10 | 10.3390/s21196452 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |||
| ○ | ○ | Article | Estrogen-related receptor γ increases poly(I:C)-mediated type I IFN expression in mouse macrophages | Although type I IFNs (IFN-I) are important for the innate and adaptive immune responses to suppress viral replication, prolonged IFN-I signaling in macrophages suppresses the immune response. Nuclear receptor estrogen-related receptor gamma (ERR gamma) regulates the transcription of genes involved in endocrine and metabolic functions. However, the role of ERR gamma in macrophage immune responses to viruses remains largely unknown. ERR gamma expression was significantly induced in mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) treated with polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (poly(I:C)). Our results indicated that the induction of ERR gamma expression by poly(I:C) is mediated through activation of the cytoplasmic dsRNA receptors, retinoic acid-inducible gene I and melanoma differentiation-associated protein 5. In BMDMs, overexpression of ERR gamma significantly increased gene expression and secretion of the IFN-I genes, IFN-alpha and IFN-beta, whereas abolition of ERR gamma significantly attenuated poly(I:C)-mediated IFN-I secretion. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assays and mutation analyses of the IFN-I promoters revealed that ERR gamma regulates the transcription of IFN-alpha and IFN-beta by binding to a conserved ERR response element in each promoter region. Finally, GSK5182 significantly suppressed poly(I:C)-mediated induction of IFN-I gene expression and secretion in BMDMs. Taken together, these findings reveal a previously unrecognized role for ERR gamma in the transcriptional control of innate and adaptive immune response to dsRNA virus replication. | Kim, Ki-Sun; Kim, Don-Kyu; Na, Soon-Young; Jung, Yoon Seok; Cho, Sung Jin; Kim, Jina; Lee, In-Kyu; Kim, Young-Hoon; Lee, Chul-Ho; Jeong, Won-Il; Jo, Eun-Kyeong; Choi, Hueng-Sik | Chonnam Natl Univ, Natl Creat Res Initiat Ctr Nucl Receptor Signals, Sch Biol Sci & Technol, 77 Yongbongro, Gwangju 61186, South Korea; Chonnam Natl Univ, Dept Integrat Food Biosci & Biotechnol, Gwangju, South Korea; Daegu Gyeongbuk Med Innovat Fdn, New Drug Dev Ctr, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Leading Edge Res Ctr Drug Discovery & Dev Diabet, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Internal Med, Sch Med, Kyungpook Natl Univ Hosp, Daegu, South Korea; Korea Res Inst Biosci & Biotechnol, Daejeon, South Korea; Korea Adv Inst Sci & Technol, Grad Sch Med Sci & Engn, Daejeon, South Korea; Chungnam Natl Univ, Dept Microbiol, Sch Med, Daejeon, South Korea | Lee, Chul-Ho/MBV-8603-2025; Jung, Yoon/B-8512-2011; JEONG, WON IL/B-6615-2011; Lee, In-Kyu/AAR-6374-2021 | 57190437981; 37081358700; 7102024265; 57203348590; 58735369700; 56949261900; 36071537600; 57816857000; 56223516500; 8983219500; 7003663754; 7404338771 | hsc@chonnam.ac.kr; | JOURNAL OF LEUKOCYTE BIOLOGY | J LEUKOCYTE BIOL | 0741-5400 | 1938-3673 | 109 | 5 | SCIE | CELL BIOLOGY;HEMATOLOGY;IMMUNOLOGY | 2021 | 6.011 | 28.9 | 0.32 | 2025-07-30 | 8 | 6 | estrogen‐ related receptor γ macrophage; type I IFN | DOUBLE-STRANDED-RNA; ERR-GAMMA; 4-HYDROXYTAMOXIFEN ANALOGS; HEPATIC GLUCONEOGENESIS; BIOLOGICAL EVALUATION; IKK-EPSILON; ORPHAN; ALPHA; ACTIVATION; INTERFERONS | estrogen-related receptor γ; macrophage; type I IFN | Animals; DEAD Box Protein 58; Gene Expression Regulation; Interferon Type I; Interferon-Induced Helicase, IFIH1; JNK Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinases; Macrophages; Male; Mice, Inbred C57BL; Poly I-C; Promoter Regions, Genetic; Protein Binding; Receptors, Estrogen; Signal Transduction; Tamoxifen; Transcription Factor AP-1; alpha interferon; beta interferon; cell nucleus receptor; double stranded RNA; estrogen related receptor gamma; gamma interferon inducible protein 10; gsk 5182; interferon; interferon induced helicase C domain containing protein 1; interleukin 1beta; interleukin 6; messenger RNA; monocyte chemotactic protein 1; polyinosinic polycytidylic acid; RANTES; retinoic acid inducible protein I; stress activated protein kinase; tamoxifen derivative; transcription factor AP 1; unclassified drug; Ddx58 protein, mouse; Esrrg protein, mouse; estrogen receptor; GSK5182; Ifih1 protein, mouse; interferon; interferon induced helicase C domain containing protein 1; polyinosinic polycytidylic acid; protein binding; stress activated protein kinase; tamoxifen; transcription factor AP 1; adaptive immunity; animal cell; Article; bone marrow derived macrophage; chromatin immunoprecipitation; controlled study; cytokine release; DNA responsive element; double-stranded RNA virus; gene overexpression; genetic conservation; human; human cell; innate immunity; male; mouse; mutational analysis; nonhuman; priority journal; promoter region; protein expression; protein induction; receptor upregulation; transcription regulation; virus replication; animal; C57BL mouse; drug effect; gene expression regulation; genetics; macrophage; metabolism; signal transduction | English | 2021 | 2021-05 | 10.1002/jlb.2hi1219-762r | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | |
| ○ | ○ | Article | Integrated Quad-Scanner Strategy-Based Optical Coherence Tomography for the Whole-Directional Volumetric Imaging of a Sample | Whole-directional scanning methodology is required to observe distinctive features of an entire physical structure with a three dimensional (3D) visualization. However, the implementation of whole-directional scanning is challenging for conventional optical coherence tomography (OCT), which scans a limited portion of the sample by utilizing unidirectional and bidirectional scanning methods. Therefore, in this paper an integrated quad-scanner (QS) strategy-based OCT method was implemented to obtain the whole-directional volumetry of a sample by employing four scanning arms installed around the sample. The simultaneous and sequential image acquisition capabilities are the conceptual key points of the proposed QS-OCT method, and were implemented using four precisely aligned scanning arms and applied in a complementary way according to the experimental criteria. To assess the feasibility of obtaining whole-directional morphological structures, a roll of Scotch tape, an ex vivo mouse heart, and kidney specimens were imaged and independently obtained tissue images at different directions were delicately merged to compose the 3D volume data set. The results revealed the potential merits of QS-OCT-based whole-directional imaging, which can be a favorable inspection method for various discoveries that require the dynamic coordinates of the whole physical structure. | Saleah, Sm Abu; Seong, Daewoon; Han, Sangyeob; Wijesinghe, Ruchire Eranga; Ravichandran, Naresh Kumar; Jeon, Mansik; Kim, Jeehyun | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Coll IT Engn, 80 Daehak Ro, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Inst Biomed Engn, Sch Med, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Univ Sri Jayewardenepura, Fac Technol, Dept Mat & Mech Technol, Pitipana 10200, Homagama, Sri Lanka; Korea Basic Sci Inst, Ctr Sci Instrumentat, 169-148 Gwahak Ro Yuseong Gu, Daejeon 34133, South Korea | ; Wijesinghe, Ruchire/K-3797-2016; RAVICHANDRAN, NARESH KUMAR/D-2190-2017; Han, Sangyeob/W-3206-2018; Kim, Jinhyun/AAK-3695-2020 | 57218499446; 57212512353; 57193695305; 56018152300; 57125825900; 24171094000; 7601373350 | abu.saleah@knu.ac.kr;smc7095@knu.ac.kr;syhan850224@knu.ac.kr;erangawijesinghe@sjp.ac.lk;nareshr9169@kbsi.re.kr;msjeon@knu.ac.kr;jeehk@knu.ac.kr; | SENSORS | SENSORS-BASEL | 1424-8220 | 21 | 4 | SCIE | CHEMISTRY, ANALYTICAL;ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC;INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION | 2021 | 3.847 | 28.9 | 0.74 | 2025-07-30 | 12 | 11 | optical coherence tomography; quad-scanner scanning strategy; whole-directional scanning; full-directional imaging | Full-directional imaging; Optical coherence tomography; Quad-scanner scanning strategy; Whole-directional scanning | Scanning; Three dimensional computer graphics; Tomography; Bi-directional scanning; Dynamic coordinates; Inspection methods; Morphological structures; Physical structures; Three dimensional (3D) visualization; Volume data sets; Volumetric Imaging; animal experiment; animal tissue; article; controlled study; ex vivo study; feasibility study; heart; kidney; male; mouse; nonhuman; optical coherence tomography; volumetry; Optical tomography | English | 2021 | 2021-02 | 10.3390/s21041305 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 |
